I want to ask the person who paid $500 under MSRP and $529 for Honda Care for his/her 2003 EX in Eastern North Carolina. How did you get this deal? I am looking for 2003 EX-L with RES. Many dealers in Massachusetts are selling at MSRP and wait up to two month. One deal can give me the fog lights installed for $550 (was asking $799). I think $400 is still too much. And I can get those PIAA lights for less. And you are really got a good deal on Honda Care.
I did not plan to write again. I just wanted to contribute some information to the site because I have been using it for so long to help my car buying process. The dealership was Bob Barbour Honda in Greenville NC. We went to them in June to buy a 2002 but all they had was leather or leather DVD. They were anticipating the 2003's in September so we decided to wait. The wife got the feaver in August and started trying to talk me into the DVD leather because they had one on the lot. She contacted the dealer and negotiate $500 off MSRP and $529 for the 7 year warranty. I wanted to wait for the 2003 so we did. On Sunday September 9 I drove by the Dealer and saw six 2003 vans on the lot with the protective paper still on the hoods. I told my son about them so he could tell his mom because she had not talked to me since I said no to the 2002 DVD. On Monday when I got home from work she told me she negotiated the same deal for the 2003. I think the warranty price was for a 5 year but they they could not locate the man who talked to my wife that day so they took our word that he told her 7 year/100000 mile. Just in case the dealership reads this she did negotiate for the 7 year. My wife did not know the warranty came in anything but a 7 year. So the price we got on the warranty was a mistake that the dealership absorbed. They can make it back when we take the van in for service. We plan to be loyal customers if the service is as good as the sales department.
I have leased several vehicles over the last decade. A 92 Accord EX, 2 97 Civic EX’s, 99 Catera Sport, and a 2000 Outback Sedan Limited. I’m not an expert but I have had a little hands on experience.
You need to know what the money factor and/or interest is when you lease a vehicle. It is basically the interest rate that you will be paying and without it you will never know if they are charging 5 % or 25% interest. The “money factor” is the interest rate divided by 24 (it’s always 24).
For more information, look at these Edmunds links. I’ve been using their guidelines for leases since 1992.
just purchased a 2003 Odyssey EX for $28,700 (just below MSRP on EX-L). This price includes dealership putting in aftermarket leather and heated seats to make equivalent to EX-L. They through in paint/interior protectant and undercoating (worthless add-ons I'm sure).
I feel pretty good with price given the other posts on this board - my concern is with aftermarket leather - anyone have experience with this?
FOR YOUR INFORMATION.....THE STICKER PRICE FOR A CANADIAN ODYSSEY EX-L WITH DVD IS 39400.00 CANADIAN DOLLARS, WHICH TRANSLATES INTO 24,965.65 U.S. DOLLARS{AT THE CURRENT EXCHANGE RATE}. SO I CALL UP A DEALER IN CANADA AND INQUIRE IF I CAN PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE AS A NEW YORK STATE RESIDENT AND U.S. CITIZEN. I'M TOLD THAT THERES NO LAW AGAINST IT, BUT HONDA USA STRICTLY FORBIDS THE SALE TO U.S. RESIDENTS. THAT IF HE DID SELL TO A U.S. CITIZEN HE WOULD FACE PENALTYS IMPOSED BY HONDA. ANY COMMENTS ON THIS???
In addition to the difficulty of finding a Canadian dealer willing to risk his allocations or franchise with Honda Canada, Honda USA won't honour the factory warranty.

It looks like everything is cheap in Canada. What a great country to live! Well, I think Honda is playing game. They could make more Odyssey (also Pilot and Acura MDX) for US. I am amazed the Canadian one is cost less while we have this (EX-L with RES) for MSRP of $29,900. It's a same minivan. That's properly right to not to sell Canadian ones to US. Otherwise, many will go to Canada to buy one. Honda could make more Odys and give US cheaper price or better interest rate.
THis must be a typo, correct? The TMV on a 2003 EX-L/DVD is $3000 OVER MSRP!? I thought MSRP and under was the norm these days. I guess I should not be whining about a minor dealer "DOC" fee.
I haven't compared the Ody specs but it may not be the same van. Often Canadian flavors of car models have block heaters and bigger batteries, drls, heated mirrors, and other goodies that are missing from the US versions. So you get even more for less :-)
All that and national health insurance; a great country to live in indeed (we can overlook the income tax rate and the 15% GST everywhere, except Alberta (?), lol). Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
15% GST. That's not a problem. At least they have a better national health insurance than US. It is still a better to live and die. And I am still standing by my theory of "Playing Game".
Don't know if these buyers' services will help much, especiall we are talking about this Odyssey. Most people are paying MSRP. If you found one, please let me know. I am also looking for 2003 EX-L with RES in Boston area.
To make a long story short, it was cheaper for me to find this dealership in Texas (I live in NC) who was willing to sell me an '03 EX-L Navi (Sagebrush Pearl, no less, a pretty tough color to come by) for $650 under MSRP DELIVERED to my front door on a truck (paid for by the dealership, thank you very much).
I was able to get $500 off MSRP pretty easily from several dealerships here in NC, but then all the stealers wanted to charge me a "doc fee" (what a fricken' joke) of around $300 (plus or minus). So much for the savings.
In any event, I'm pretty happy to have found this deal (no doc/prep fee, by the way, so it's a 'real' $650 off sticker).
I don't think the moderators like us to post specific dealer info. here, so email me off-line at hschultz123@yahoo.com if you want contact info.
None, nada, zilch. Apparently our data people haven't heard about the few problem transmissions out there or have decided it's of little import - TMV pricing continues well above MSRP. Still amazing.
Hi all, I just got the 2003 Honda Odyssey EX-L silver star light Drive out at 30,500.00 with these options: Backward sensor (This is new feature on 2003 honda odyssey) Mud guard Tinted window Cargo tray. wheel lock.
I received a phone call from Brown's Arlington Honda two weeks ago, an UBS dealer, who informed me that they do not work with UBS on Odyssey anymore. I was on their Odyssey waiting list for 10 month.
Just recieved an email from a dealer in Chicago area offering $1500 off MSRP on 2003 Odyssey. Called dealer and they said none in dealer lot now, but has list on what will be arriving in 8 weeks or can order one for arrival in 12 weeks. Was quoted price on 2003 Odyssey EX at MSRP $27360 less $1500 plus tax and $51 doc fee. Could this be true ? I actually place an order with another dealership 3 weeks ago. Should I cancel my previous order and put a deposit down with this dealer.
This is my first time buying a Honda and I'm a little thrown back by having to pay MSRP. Anyone know of any Northern Illinois Honda dealers giving good prices? I'm looking for a 2003 Odyssey, Evergreen Pearl EX-L RES. What about getting quotes from dealers over the internet? Any luck in getting internet quotes below MSRP? Will these dealers try to beat one another's prices or are they all saying, "MSRP ... sorry"
Hmmm, I thought the deal with UBS was you had to accept UBS pricing for EVERY model you had, you couldn't pick and choose.
Sigh, what to do....I've never paid MSRP for a car in my life, and don't want to start now. $4k profit for moving a hunk of metal is a tad crazy to me. I negotiated a $2k profit on my Caddy STS.
mdt308, the more specific you are about your requirements, the less likely you are to find a discount! Odyssey dealers simply do not have to sell on price at the moment, so there's very little incentive for them to cut their profit.

Don't know the MSRP in Canadian. It seems the heated mirrors and daytime running are standard in the Canadian Odys (not even an option for US). Try www.honda.ca for the specs, 2002 model only. In Japan, it is called LaGreat. Their Odyssey is still the same as the 95-98 version of ours. Try www.honda.co.jp/auto-line/lagreat/ (in Japanese with few English) It has power folding side mirrors and much more. The Japanese love options. Anyway, I want to see if they put a sunroof on ours.
Just put down $500 deposit on LX in Central PA. Price was $24,360 plus tax and tags. Did all negotiating over email and phone. Actual signing was pretty uneventful. Same price as Scranton dealer mentioned on this forum. It appears prices are dropping since it was fairly easy to find two dealers willing to go $500 below MSRP. Dealer was Bobby Rahal Honda in Mechanicburg. Delivery by end of Oct.
I was under the impression it was their standard pitch for all Odysseys. I don't know for sure, but I'm sure if you emailed him and said you heard he was giving MSRP - $500, he would start the negotiating.
Note: An unexpected EX (maybe an EX-L) was on the lot last night and he asked me if I was interested. I wasn't, but it might still be there. Can't remember what color or other details.
Check Commonwealth Motors in Lawrence, MA. In Sundays Globe, had an ad 2003 dollars off MSRP, every EX-L.. Called on other ads they've had and they seem pretty legitimate.
My experience with them is that price is off their MSRP sticker not Honda's WRT Ody's. Their AAA price when I bought mine was MSRP + $2,000 of options and 6 week wait.
Perhaps they've changed but they hit a sour note with me.
I got the same e-mail quote late last week for a Chicago area dealer at MSRP less $1500 + tax + $51 for a 2003 EXL-RES. I did give them a deposit and have heard from them three times since then. Estimated arrival 6-10 weeks. I do worry that there is something "wrong!"
matt60616 - My guess is that 60616 refers to a Chicago zip code around 22nd Street so I'm hoping you can help me out ... can you tell me the dealership quoting you MSRP minus $1,500? I'm looking for a 2003 EX-L RES and am about ready to obtain internet quotes from a bunch of Honda dealerships in the Chicago area. Please if you can, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you - mdt308.
Yes, I plan to stop by this dealership later this week and place an order for a 2003 Odyssey. Will believe it when I have written contract in hand. Figure I have nothing to lose and $1500 to gain. Why did the dealer contact you 3 times after you gave them a deposit ?
Is supply of Odyssey, finally catching up with demand ?
mdt308 - email me at matt524@msn.com for info. about the dealer
I have been looking for the Odyssey for quite some time. Actually, since the 2000 model year. Because of the bad economy, and having a couple of young kids that like to tear up cars, I decided to delay pulling the trigger. I have also been against paying above MSRP. It is more based upon principle than economics.
Well, this last weekend, I took my 95 Nissan Altima to the shop to have them look at an oil leak. 1 grand to fix. The car was becoming a sink hole, so I figure I would take a look at the Odyssey again. I was planning on buying, because I still believe the economy is going down further and the automakers would be more aggressive about selling vehicle later in the year to make their revenue numbers for 2002.
I went to my first dealer to just browse with my wife. We were looking at 2002 models, since there was no significant differences between that and the 2003, and we figure we could get a great inventory closing deal. After looking at the vehicle, we decided that we want to buy a Odyssey by the end of the year. The saleman took us into a cube wanted to discuss how we could close the deal today. I wasn't too optimistic because I saw from the posting that people were still paying about MSRP a couple of weeks ago
After a bit of discussion about my situation and what I was looking for. They made an offer of $1200 below MSRP for a silver 2002 EX-L that they had in stock or $500 below MRSP for a different color EX-L that they could trade from another dealer. I was willing to close the deal, but my wife wanted some time to see some other colors. We told them we would be back in the morning after thinking about the color(They only had white and silver in inventory.) It was late on a Saturday night, around 7pm. I called another Honda dealer that was about 1 hr drive and found out that they closed at 10pm. We took the drive their because I was afraid that if we did not decide soon, the silver Ody would be sold and we would loose out on what I perceived as a great saving.
I went to this other dealer with the intention of checking out how the different colors looked on the car. They had white and red. The only 02 was white. This dealer also prepacked their vehicles with small extras like pinstriping, window tinting, mud guard, door bumpers, wheel access bumper, cargo liners, and dash mat. All these extras had a retail of $1050. Actual cost would be around $600 if I bought it over the internet and installed it myself.
The saleperson took us to the office and wanted to talk about make a sales. I went out of politeness and also because I wanted to confirm that the previous deal I made was actually a good deal. It was 9pm, and we had our kid with us. It was a long day, so I did not want to spend too much time with him. I was completely upfront, and told him that I had this other deal for $1200 off MRSP. I also told him that all that "extra" that they threw into the car had the value of $0 for me, because I didn't ask for them, and I didn't need them. Not completely true, but not a complete lie either. We also mentioned that White was not our preferred color and that we like the Silver from the other dealer.
He went to the back room and out came the manager. To shorten a long story, the manager asked us if we would be willing to be "color blind" if they could come up with the right deal. I said, what's the deal. He offered $1700 off MRSP, threw in the dealer accessories for free and we would split the cost for the window tinting. I was about to jump all over it. My wife wasn't sure if it was their best deal or not, because it came so easily. She said no. I almost had a fit. I've been waiting 3 years for this Ody, and we get the deal of a life time, and she says no! The dealer haggles a bit more, and my wife says that she doesn't want to pay for the tinting because she did not ask for it to be put on. (We would have gotten the tinting at some point, because we live in Arizona, and it is hot here!) After some reluctance the dealer closed with us. For $2700 off MRSP (if you count the accessories.) I guess I can be a bit color blind.
The dealer did rape us on the Doc fee and this teflon coating that they wanted to apply every 6 months. The doc fee was $289 and that coating was $199. I figure there was about $200-300 of dealer profit there, but hey, I was still a great deal.
So my thinking, is that Honda must be upping their supply of Odys. My guess is that the Accord is getting a lot of competition, so they better move Odys to keep up the revenue. People who buy cars this year will not likely buy a new one next year. With all the other incentives going around, Honda better act or they will miss the sale. Just a thought.
Is anybody else experiencing the same type of deals?
Finally I bought my Starlight silver (2003 Honda Odyssey EX/L with RES )last week for $ 100 less on MSRP. Also I got the following add on options included in the same price. 1. Splash Guard 2. Cargo tray 3. Wheel locks.
Total price paid was $30,160 + Title + Tax. I got my van in two days and didn't pay any deposit or wait for two months. My dealer is at Decatur, Illinois and the sales rep was very cooperative. If anyone interested to buy let me know and I can give further info.
suresh_kanna - I'm interested in getting some more info. on the dealership you used. Dealer name, sales person's name, phone #, dealership e-mail (if possible). How long did they say it would take to get the vehicle or did you just take delivery (if so, how long did it take to come in from the date you ordered it). Thanks - mdt308.
Can anybody tell me the Odyssey prices paid in San Francisco bay area? I was looking for an Odyssey for the last 5 months - never brought it because: 1. The economy is not looking very good 2. Not happy to pay near MSRP.
When I started looking, the quotes I used to get was near 1800 above MSRP. Last month I was getting some offers in the range of 600 above MSRP. One dealer quoted MSRP if I take the one he has in lot.
I would like to get Leather - not crazy about NAV but can take it if I get a good offer.
Does this seem to be a reasonable price? I am seeing that many people are getting Odyssey at more than $1000 below MSRP.
No discounts anywhere near the Bay Area. You can get MSRP in some of the neighboring counties, but locally you're competing with folks who are willing to pay thousands over.
I just tried to get a discount in SoCal and no one accepted the offer, but I did find some 2003's at sticker.
Please limit the listing of contact info to the dealer's name - we prefer not to see phone numbers and emails on the boards since it looks too much like advertising and we don't have time to verify that info. Better to do it by email (if you mark your email public in your profile, you'll run less risk of getting spammed vs. posting your own email address in the discussion). Thanks, Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards
I'm looking at the Ody or the Toyota Seq. The deal that I have on the 2003 EXL Ody is MSRP (they are throwing in some DIO (cross bars, pin striping, mudguards, cargo tray (I may be overlooking one item) for nothing) + $865 for the 7yr/100K $0 deductible warranty (thanks to this forum). On the Sequoia it's a 2002 SR5 4x4 (I can't remember all of the options however the MSRP is $40,7XX and I can get it for $36,5K and $1,100 for the 7yr/100k $0 deductible warranty. My husband, father-in-law and children want me to get the Sequoia, however my mother-in-law and myself are leaning toward the ody because of price. I have to make the decision today.
cindil - Ironically for my wife and I, our decision came down to the Ody. and the Sequoia. We have little kids so in the end, the Ody makes a heck of a lot more sense (they can get in themselves, the one that isn't driving during trips can go back to them from the front very easily). I was attracted to the overall size and weight of the Sequoia suggesting that, in my mind, it was safer. When I looked at the numbers, the 4WD Sequoia was only 886 lbs more than the Ody. and the Ody. has comparable numbers as far as interior dimensions. Suggestion: Go to kellybluebook.com and under "New Car Pricing" you can do a side-by-side comparison comparing the specs. of both vehicles. Good luck ... in my opinion, you can't go wrong with either one: If convenience is more important, go with the Ody, if a large, heavy 4WD is more important, go with the Sequoia.
For those who plan to get the 2003 Honda Odyssey, you don't need to put a deposit. The 2003 HOnda Odyssey is built to meet the need now. I got the 2003 Honda Odyssey last 2 weeks, Silver Starlight with these options:
Final price: $30,500 drive out (including tax + title). I was hurry to buy that car. Now a lot of dealers called me and sent me an email they will deal at $30,000 for me. So don't hurry to pay over the MSRP.
If you want to get a new car, just go at the end of the month and you will be surprised with the deal. Most dealers want to get a record of car saled at the end of the month.
I read few messages about dealers are willing to sell the Odys below the M.S.R.P. Some loaded with options. And they are all in Texas. I found no such deal in Boston area. Every dealer wants MSRP here.
matt60616 - You and I e-mailed one another this past week and I found the dealer offering $1,500 BELOW MSRP. I'm going in tomorrow to place my order, sign the contract, and give him a deposit. Before I go, did you have success with these guys? Did they give you any bologna or any surprises when you signed up? I've got a fax quote from them and the numbers look good. Please let me know. Thanks - mdt308.
Lok, I have been looking in the Boston/Worcester area and have worked pretty closely with 2 dealers in the Worcester area. Both offer MSRP on the 2003's...I haven't been able to get them to move down at all. If you see any dealers going below MSRP in the area, please post!
mdt308 - Ordered my 2003 Odyssey 2 days ago from Chicago dealer at $1500 off MSRP. No hassle, order was written up with $500 deposit. The wait time is 12 weeks.

I bought my last 2 cars using them and saved quite a bit.
I notice the UBS price on a 2002 (2003 isn't available yet) is about $3k off of list (for the EX w/Nav that I want).
I would guess the dealer would laugh at me if I came in with the UBS price, or take my order and fill it sometime in 2005.
Any experience?

I guess I can be a bit color blind.
1. Splash Guard
2. Cargo tray
3. Wheel locks.
Total price paid was $30,160 + Title + Tax. I got my van in two days and didn't pay any deposit or wait for two months. My dealer is at Decatur, Illinois and the sales rep was very cooperative. If anyone interested to buy let me know and I can give further info.
1. The economy is not looking very good

I just tried to get a discount in SoCal and no one accepted the offer, but I did find some 2003's at sticker.

For those who plan to get the 2003 Honda Odyssey, you don't need to put a deposit. The 2003 HOnda Odyssey is built to meet the need now.
I got the 2003 Honda Odyssey last 2 weeks, Silver Starlight with these options:
Wheel lock
Mud Guard
Tinted window
Reserve sensor
Cargo tray
Final price: $30,500 drive out (including tax + title).
I was hurry to buy that car.
Now a lot of dealers called me and sent me an email they will deal at $30,000 for me.
So don't hurry to pay over the MSRP.
I am in Texas.

Most dealers want to get a record of car saled at the end of the month.
Just my opinion.
