looks great---I assume that plastic barrier piece allows it to suck in mostly outside air--is that correct? Anyone plan on taking some before and after smog test readings?

So do you notice any difference in sound or HP? That sure looks like an easy and beneficial mod. I bet even DocPixel could handle that! ;-)

That and the Hujo dual exhaust look like very worthwhile mods. And dumping the Badyears for some nice Yokos or Dunlops sports are another mod I am considering.
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
The barrier is a metal heat shield that isolates the filter element. You are correct in that it sucks colder air. It is a bit louder than stock as you can hear the air rushing through especially on hard acceleration. The jury's still out on HP increase although I suspect it's up a little. Don't know about emissions; I may take it over and have it checked to see if it still meets requirements. It should seeing as how the EGR hooks up, but I'll find out one way or another.

When glenn stomped on the gas, two kids on skateboards got sucked down the sidewalk and into the intake. ;)

Take a look at this site if your interested in having a fairly low cost GPS system, especially if you all ready own a Compaq ipac hand held computer.

Also take a look at post # 2065 on the Yahoo site.

Magellan makes a fairly good GPS for a Palm Vx. Too small to navigate on the go, but ok for picking a route. Before I got a better one, I used it on my boat to mark crab pots and good fishing spots. Its only $180.00 or so.
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
OK, so it uses the stock TB bend to connect to the TB. I was hoping K&N would have made a new piece that slips on as easily as the stock bend but does not have that stupid flat part on top or curve downward. If it did, I would consider buying one myself and use it with my monster. As it is, it is similar to this:

    http://public.fotki.com/Scotian/300m/air_intake/plumbing_tb_bend/

Is the cone filter a cone-in-a-cone type? Also, take a pic straight down at the battery, please.

    Hi gang,

I own a '98 Intrepid ES. The car is just turning 40,000 miles, and I noticed a slight scraping when I turned the steering wheel to the right. This seemed to happen on cold mornings, and would disappear after a few minutes. Dodge relaced two rubber steering mounts, but they said the problem was still there. They have gone ahead and ordered a new rack to be installed, thankfully under warranty.

Has anyone had to undergo this type of service?

What other associated service would I need if a rack were to be replaced, other than a wheel alignment? In a rack and pinion system, do both have to be changed together?

    Thank you,
    Lee

My guage never gets up to the 1/2 way mark. Always slightly under. Is this normal? Appreciate any feedback. Climate control working OK in winter mode. Have only had M for 6 wks so don't know about summer performance.
  • uxca300muxca300m Member Posts: 155
My gauge never gets above the half way mark. Cooler is better.
  • denvermdenverm Member Posts: 358
After warming up, my M's temp gauge ALWAYS sits at one mark below the half way mark ('00, owned for 1.5 years, 25K miles, in Denver).

I asked this question in a post several weeks ago and never got an answer. I need someone to measure the vertical height between the top of the tire and the approx. 6" round plate that sits at the bottom of the spring. If I don't get an answer this time I'm going to ask Ottowrker to make sure all your cars are built on," Hangover Monday mornings" or, " I gotta go home early, Friday afternoons" :-)
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
I think the R&P is one unit, sorta' like Swith & Wesson. :-)

I had mine replaced after corrosion was discovered under the rubber boots. It made this squealing noise, moreso turning in one direction than the other. Before that they replaced, probably needlessly, the steering column and strut bearings.
  • lonestarsledlonestarsled Member Posts: 226
I measured just shy of an inch at the outer edge of the "round plate." But the plate is not perfectly flat so that dimension gets smaller toward the inside of the tire. I have the original 225/55/17 tires.

I found your old post #12503 and it sounds that your car is in spec. This is a static measurement; that is, the wheel does not move w/respect to this plate. I doubt that the sound you hear is coming from tire to plate contact. If it is you have a SERIOUS suspension problem!

    Hi everyone,

I have finally decided to post a message, I have been a faithful reader of this message board since early December 2001. This was approx two weeks before I took the plunge and purchased my 2001 300M, it is a beautiful Deep Sapphire Blue demo that the Business Manager at the dealer drove. It has Lux group, PHP, spoiler, and limousine tinted windows in back. We decided to take advantage of the 0% financing offered by Chrysler and since then have been ecstatic not only with our precious 300M, but also with our dealers service and attitude.

We purchased our new darling baby from CrossTown Motors in Edmonton, Alberta and I can see why now they advertise themseleves as Canada's #1 Chrysler Dealer.

So far the only modification I have made is to have the dealer install a AstroStart Remote Car Starter (A must have in our climate!).

Look forward to chatting and installing many new mods.

mikeyjohn from your post I assume you must be from Calgary...sorry to see the Flames are in the tank along with Oilers. Hopefully they can pull out of it soon. Do you know of any other members that that are from Alberta?

Do you want to guess what is wrong with the car now? Anyone?

Just last weekend, here on the board, a few owners were talking about water leaks. In a conversation with my mother, I told her about this and I quote, "That'll be next", she said. Well, as it may be, we too now have water leakage.

After scrubbing the car down yesterday, I was drying it off and had the trunk open. For some reason, I just decided to take a look at the spare. So, I took the cover off, and low and behold, the rim was completely wet! We looked around for about half and hour and used the hose to see where it might be leaking, but found nothing. I just finished what I was doing and closed it all back up.

Then, this morning after church, I decided to take the cover off again and look around. Sure enough, the wheel was wet again and when I pulled it out, I found that it was more soaked on the back! So I removed everything (the wheel, jack, etc. and parked the car with the open trunk facing the sun. The carpet was wet and we didn't want it to start to smell, so I left it dry out.

Well, I must say, that for such serious surgery after the wreck, we kind of did expect something like this to happen. While we were all in the trunk looking around, my mother happened to come out and ask what we we doing. I told her, she got mad, and said "That's it, I'm trading it." Well, we all know what that means! Moan and groan about it for an hour or two and then forget.

Has anyone here had a leak in their trunk? It's most likely one of the body seams, but I just thought that I'd check.

    So long for now!

    beach15-

LOL...... I don't mean to laugh, but Christine 1 had the SAME problem. Dry that trunk mat out good because it does stink when wet. It was a body seam that had to be fixed. There is a TSB on this as follows:
    Make: CHRYSLER
    Model: 300 M
    Year: 1999
    Service Bulletin Number: 232898
    Bulletin Sequence Number: 235
    Date of Bulletin: 07/98
    NHTSA Item Number: SB602334
    Component: STRUCTURE:BODY
    Summary:

WATER AND / OR DUST COLLECTION IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL OR AT THE TRUNK FLOOR TO QUARTER PANEL SEAM. *YC

Hope this helps. This TSB is for the 99 Christine, but I'm sure it applies to yours too.

Good luck. By tomorrow, your Mom will love the car again! ;-))

Welcome to the site, congrats on your purchase, you can't go wrong with the group on this site, anything you wanted to know and were afraid to ask will be answered on this site. If you have anything that you want to know off topic, my e-mail is on my bio and will be glad to answer. Don't you love this weather? My M sure handles well on these roads, and yes I am in Calgary.

The K&N aircharger part# is 63-1029. Most folks have had good luck ordering it from Martel Bros.

    http://www.martelbros.com/

The cost is roughly $240.00 depending on where they send it. BTW, the kit is complete; nothing else is needed!

I spent all day today hooking up a Rockford-Fosgate 600.4 amp to replace the Infinity II amp. The system sounds great and there is a lot more power, but I have a lot of high pitched static. I have checked my ground (and all other connections as well) but still no luck. I had to use the signal level inputs from the stock head unit into the speaker level inputs of the new amp as RCA cables don't exist. This may be the source of the problem. Has anyone else changed their amp with good results? And if so how did you do it???

If you want a GPS to use strictly in the car, checkout the new Uniden GPSRD radar detector. It has a built in GPS that can save points, has a very accurate LED speed readout and compass built in. About $200 delivered over the internet. Also has a learning anti-falsing system.

I have not seen anyone else who has posted from Alberta, but have talked to other M owners and given the thumbs up to others I have seen in passing. It's a nice feeling to know you drive a unique auto that others envy.Just a tip, but others on this site have removed all the Chrysler decal from the sides and the rear and it appears to add class to the car. I also added the Joshua woodtrim to mine and it looks great, the address is www.woodtrim.com. I have not done some of the other mods as mine is leased and I was informed by my dealer that some of the mods may void the warranty, so I am a little gunshy. I will be buying this car out at lease end and I only have 8000 Kms. and the car is almost 1 year old to me. Good luck with yours.

I like my Alpine 852 Navigation unit. I use it a lot for yard sales, and is great when you want to take the "back roads" knowing you won't end up in a dead alley, in a bad part of town. I do wish though that every square inch of the country was covered though.

On the air charger where is the air comming from, for the enclosure?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
It sucks the air through the original air intake hole, plus a little warm air through a small gap around the hose where it passes through the heat shield.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Does it cost anything to join/use? I'd like to find a nice replacment for Photopoint too.

We're having SD weather here! ;-)) Washed the car yesterday. Zaino shine still there! Record breaking temps possible today. Just might have to Z2/Z6 after work. Look at yesterday's pics-

SD Mike--Great shots of the group meet. Really enjoyed seeing what others have done to their Ms.

On the 5* issue. My dealer has always been excellent here in Elizabethtown, KY. Not a big dealer, but every time I take it in the Service Tech enjoys seeing it, and getting any problems worked out. I was there last time when he was on the phone and talked to the Warranty people on the progam I have [at 39K miles], and words like "immaculate" and "knock-out" were tripping out of his mouth to describe the platinum 99M and that made me feel good. He really likes the car and the mods I've done to it almost as much as I do. The service has always been good and responsive over the 3 1/2 years I have had the car.

ESPN had a one hour show on yesterday about the North American Auto Show up in Detroit. By accident my wife taped it. It was a really good show and almost as good as being there to see all the new and concept cars. My favorite was the Caddy XLR [formerly the EVOQ] and the Caddy Cien [concept] was second. The Pontiac Solstice?? and Dodge Razor and the new Z car were also pretty nice looking. I still have a mixed reaction to the Crossfire, but since they downsized the engine to 215 HP I guess it will be DOA. Instead I am saving my pennies [wrong denomination] for an XLR [demo or exec with one year on it] and hope I will be around when they get it to the street. I want to keep my M as a "tuner" car.

Fastdriver , do not forget that Beach15's car has the whole back of the car rebuilt after an accident. That TSB would be for a seam leaking from the factory. WHO knows what seam it could be from that body shop who did the rebuild. I'm sure if you took it to the dealer and wanted it fixed for free under the TSB they would easily see that it had been rebuilt and then you would be charged for the repair.
beach -take it back to the place that did the repair. make them fix it . If that does not work call your insurance company who paid this shop to fix your car properly and complain to them , keep calling till they do something . Don't let up.The sqeaky wheel gets the grease .Make lots of noise.

    All Club Members -
There will be a Southern California meeting of the 300M Enthusiasts Club on Saturday, March 16 2002. The event will be held in the Carlsbad area, which is about 90 miles south of LA and about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego. Details to follow in the next couple of weeks.

Got my basslink installed this weekend. Really nice although the guy tuned it to really bump. I had to turn the thing waaay down from where he had it. The entire car was shaking.

SDMike - Al & Ed's refused to install it. They want nothing to do with Infinity for some reason and they were pretty rude too. So I took it across the street to Good Guys and they said it was very simple and he did a very professional job in just over an hour.

So I have an unused $50 gift cert for Al & Eds that expires on the 31st. Any of you guys in SD have a need for it? Still good through Thursday. (on hindsight I should have purchased the upgraded RCA cables, etc. there instead of Good Guys, but then again they ticked me off so I don't want to give em my business anyway).

I got mine for about $2200 off + the $1000 rebate.

It will depend on the dealer and the area you are looking in.

They don't make anything for the 300M, but it is similar in design to Franken-Intake:

We just got home. And, as you guessed it, nothing said about the car. She still loves to drive it! Actually, I have it all spiffed up and sparkling, and it (ChristineII) seems to run better when it's clean! The one rattle was barely there and the rest was perfect (other than the front passenger seat that still rolls back and forth like a carnival ride!

As for the trunk leak, she was actually just talking about it 5 minutes ago. My dad wants to look at it more himself and see if he can fix it. Not suprising, he can't be bothered with taking the car anywhere when something needs fixed. If all fails, it will go to the body shop who put a lifetime guarantee on it.

    See ya!!

Before I tear something up, does anyone know how the rear deck cover comes off in order to get to the speakers?
  • uxca300muxca300m Member Posts: 155
To Alta300m congratulations on your new baby. I've said this before but the 300M is the first car that I've owned that I've really been truly attached too. It's a great machine to drive. As for you and MikeyJohn out in the western part of Canada,
please keep your cold weather. Down here in Ontario we have been having around 11 to 15 degrees celcius daytime temperatures. Almost time to open the pool. :-)
Lonestarsled-thanks for taking that measurement for me. As that bottom plate is static with the spring an tire, then that can't be what I hear the odd time. Maybe it's just the suspension bottoming out over a heavy duty bump.
Fast Driver- Really liked the photo album idea when I took a look at your photos. I didn't realize that the front grill and bumper of your M was that different from the 2001 M's.I kinda like yours better.
SDmike2- As you are a member of the the Yahoo club site why not just post your pics there for free?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Blonda - Shame that anyone these days finds it necessary to be rude to their customers. I agree with you. Screw'em if they won't treat you with respect. Nice to hear, though, that the Good Guys were "good guys" about it.

Uxca - I thought about that, but I think those albums can only be viewed by members of the group, not the general public. I also considered posting them on my own domain but I like the idea of thumbnails and stuff, and that's just a lot of work for me to edit and code the pages.

hi there ,,can any one tell me about ASE Chip is it any good and is there any Performance improvement ,can you tell me on how to modify the TB of my 1999m ,or tell my about any web site that have the mods (all the modification for it)
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
What kinds of mods are you interested in? Performance mods? Appearance mods? Both. The most popular performance mods performed by regular posters here are:
    Dual Exhaust
    K&N Air Filter
    Bosch Platinum +4 plugs
Improved Intake (home made or K&N Air Charger)
    Bored Throttle Body

There have also been discussions about replacing the gears with either Prowler Pro gears (about $1,500) or the gears from the 2.7 litre cars). The discussions about the ASE and other add-on chips have generally been leaning to the side of "waste of money". Personally, I've just done the dual exhaust and K&N filter, but I've ordered the Air Charger.

Specifically to boring out the throttle body, there is a poster on the Intrepid board that will send you a bored out throttle body and custom intake in exchange for your stock throttle body and some hard earned money. Someone else here will have to provide you the link or email for more information.

If you have a gift cert. my advice is to use it. If you don't they will have the money. If you use it they have the money anyway, but you will have something too. Purchase something for 49.99 and then return it later.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
To take out the rear deck mat, you first take out the bottom cushion of the rear seat.
    1. Lift up on the front of the rear bottom seat and it will come out.
    2. Take the back seat cushion off (you will need a 13mm socket, I believe).
    3. Take off the side plastic pannels (between the rear window and rear doors). They snap out.
    4. Next take off the fasteners holding down the rear deck mat, and slide if forward. Your done.

Well I'm back, got my car back today. 5* dealer says nothing wrong with the seat that adjusts by itself! The sad part is they drove out all my gas having my car for 8 days to put just tires on it. I stopped on my way home from the dealer to put gas in it. I get back in it to go home and the seat adjusts all the way forward. The problem I see here is burning out the motors because it pushes me all the way into the dash board and I'm having to pull the switch back to stop it. I GIVE UP! I have tried so hard to keep this car but I have had enough. Does anyone know of a Lemon Law attorney in Southern California?

I have some pictures of the TB that I have ground down myself, on http://homestead.com/chrysler300m/chrysler300m.html go to intake section. It is near the bottom. Sorry it takes a while to load, but has plenty of pictures. I used a dremel tool and a bernishing kit (sanding disk. rubber grit disk, and polishing disk. I did keep my orginal TB just in case of problems later. That way I can reinstall my old stock system back and no one would be the wiser.

Am looking forward to the meet in a month and a half. So little time. Let's see 45 days (a coat of Zanio a day), better wear you sunglasses LOL.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
hey, with that much zaino your car will be just a little bigger than everyone else's!. lol. Once I get things a little better organized I'll figure out how many people will need hotel rooms in the area. My goal is to have the meet starting around noon or 1pm so people that want to drive home in the late afternoon will at least get a few hours in with the group. After spending some time socializing we can do a cruise and stop one or two places for pictures and sight seeing. I'll get some reservations for dinner for people who plan to stay around later and maybe overnight. I'm also thinking about having some Great Texas BBQ brought out, but I'm not sure I want all that sauce sitting in the back of Big Red. lol. What was the timing and organization of the Phoenix meet? You can email me at mritchie@san.rr.com if you want to take your answer off line.
