I just purchased a 2008 black MKX fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. I have 300 miles on it now. The overall craftsmanship of the vehicle is terrible. I had a 1/8" high, 4" long, 1/8" wide blemish on the dashboard. The dealer "fixed" it by cutting and melting the spot. Now I have a spot that's 3" square on my dashboard right in eye sight that's shiny, discolored, and flat not textured like the rest of the dash. The dealer says that's all they can do for me. I escalated this to Ford and they said they can't help me as this doesn't affect the driving of the vehicle. The black paint is horrible. Swirl marks and light scratches all throughout the vehicle. The dealer "buffed" it and the majority of them are still there. I was told by the dealer that all black cars are going to have swirl marks in them. I replied for him to walk over to my 2008 328XI Black BMW and show me swirl marks in that black paint. He replied that Ford black paint is not a good quality paint and I have to accept it. You would think that a company on the verge of bankruptcy would take care of ALL customer quality complaints. Unfortunately, nothing has changed at Ford. They don't care. I will NEVER buy another American made vehicle as long as I live. I was going to buy either a Lexus or BMW and went with the Lincoln to "Buy American". Ford wonders why they are LOSING market share. Well, here is a prime example why. I love my BMW and regret purchasing this Lincoln. What a waste of money. Three years from now I will trade this "Quality American Made Vehicle" in and purchase a REAL QUALITY FOREIGN MADE VEHICLE! FORD, YOU LOST A 3 YEAR NEW VEHICLE PURCHASER FOR LIFE! GO BANKRUPT FOR ALL I CARE!
That is a dealer problem, not a Ford problem. I understand that the dealer represents Ford but Ford has very little power over the dealers. Hopefully the economy will get rid of the bad dealers faster.
Take it to another dealer and I'm sure they'll replace the dash under warranty. And the scratches and swirl marks came from the dealer washing the vehicle before it was delivered - they don't leave the factory that way. Also sounds like they didn't know how to fix it, either.
I took Ford to court and won my case! Ford has to repurchase my MKX. I will never ever buy Ford again, nor will my kids, future grand kids and their kids. I Hate Ford! It took 20 months fighting but it was well worth it. For all those unhappy MKX owners don't give up. We should not have to pay for something that is improperly built. It should be Fords problem not ours! :
Sorry to hear about any MKX owner who has to resort to the Lemon laws. I expect that every vehicle manufacturer has had a Lemon, so I wonder if any statistics are kept on the frequency. Also why is it that for the nearly identical Ford Edge, with more sales, and with its forum having twice the number of posts, there is only one post in 2008 that mentions "Lemon" and that was back in 2/08?
I myself posted my experience with a problem on our MKX back on 7/12/08. But after 14 months of ownership and roughly 21,000 miles, that isolated experience is fast fading against the overwhelming satisfaction from an otherwise flawless performance. We also continue to enjoy the comfort and still unique style of the MKX.
It does make you wonder, doesn't it? I think the dealers have a big part here - if you have a problem - even more than one - but the dealer is able to fix it promptly and accurately then it's forgotten. But if the dealer tries to fix it multiple times and fails (or worse, causes more problems) then it all gets blamed on Ford, which isn't fair. It's too bad that Ford doesn't have more control over it's dealer network.
I recently moved to a more rural area & the fog on my early morning (like 2:00 am) commute is horrible.
The factory fog lights really do nothing but light up... no help at all.
Wondering can I change the bulbs in the factory fog lights to something better or do I need to simply buy a new set of fog lights & bold on near the factory ones?
I also have a 2008 MKX and it has been back 5 times for the brakes, 2 other times for transmission leaking (PTU) and a dead battery. They have machined all 4 rotors, replaced all 4 rotors & pads. Last trip they machined the rear rotors again. I agree too may problems too soon - car only has 10,500 miles on it. Decided to go through the Lemon Law. Will let you know the outcome.
Same here. My 2008 MKX has been back to the dealer 7 times; 5 for the brakes (they machined all 4 rotors, then replaced all 4 rotors, & pads - last visit they machined the rear rotors again), The transmission also was leaking - PTU 2 times, and a dead battery. Going through the Lemon Law now. How did you make out & what did you get as a replacement vehicle?
I have a 2007 MKX that is chocolate white exterior. It appears to be rusting all over the sides and rear but not on the hood. It looks like it is coming from under the paint but there is not chip in the paint, it just bleeds through. I have tried waxing but it comes right back, has anyone else had this problem.
I've heard of that, resulting from fine metal particles becoming imbedded in the paint (called 'rail dust' I think). It's not the car rusting. Do a search on that, might find some info that helps.
My case did not quality for the lemon law, the lawyer i spoke with said i woud win going to the BBB. I could not just sit on my hands. I filed a case aganist Ford through the BBB. I printed e-mails about my problems, articles and reviews. Every minor or major problem I took it to the shop (it was a hassel ) but you need some many days out of service. I did alot of research. I represented myself because the lawyer was not going through this nightmare and I was living it. My court case was a confrence call with a Ford representive. Ford insulted me, they were very rude and nasty just what I expected. I took my time and cross examined Ford ( they choked). The arbitraitor took a break for a test ride and she also had a professional take a look at it. Around 2 weeks later I got a letter from the BBB stating Ford had to by the vehicle back! It was a long and frustrating process but well worth it. I"m willing to help anyone who has been going through this nightmare with their MKX.
Ok I have a 2007 MKX and it had a rattle coming from the rear end. Brought it in and they replaced a broken clamp.
Also have the issue with the seat not returning to the saved position when I put the key in. Seems to happen mostly when I park her on an incline, rear end down.
Just had an experience today with my 2007 Lincoln MKX with 39000 miles. Stopped to go shopping and when I went to start her she started fine. Just once she was in Drive she didn't want to move and the wrench light came on. Gave her some more gas and she started to creep forward. Put her in reverse and she seemed to move fine. Then back in Drive and same thing however she slowly moved forward up to speed around 45 MPH but RPM was about 2500 like she was in a low gear. Made it to my next destination and parked fro several hours. When I went to start she bucked forward while in Park then she seemed to run fine. Taking her in tomorrow to get it checked out. Anyone else have this problem?
Solved the problem! Went through the Lemon Law and Ford settled the case. We then traded the car (after all known problems were repaired for the X10th time) for a Lexus - no more problems or return visits to the dealership. Through the years I have owned many Ford's but the MKX was the most problematic and unreliable car ever. Good luck and continue to build your case.
Hi...I joined the forum to ask a question about my neighbor's MKX. She leased the MKX about 2 1/2 years ago. The car is shipped to Daytona Florida in late September and returned to the Northeast (six miles from the ocean) in late May. This past spring, with 17,500 miles, the service dept in Florida replaced the front brakes and rotors (the right front being worse than the left) because of rust. When asked why they were in such a shape with such low mileage the serviceman asked if she parks near a sprinkler system.
She nows wants me to pay the $410 repair bill. I water my lawn for approx. one hour 1 to 2 times per week depending on the amount of rainfall. Last summer was so rainy that I probably watered once or twice per month from July to September. The summer before was more normal but the car sat unused for 2 months. I use a rotary head sprinkler that is set on half circle directed away from the neighbor's home into my lawn area. I am also careful to watch the end of the spray that is does not catch the car but any change in water pressure or strong wind would probably get the lower portion of the car a little wet.
I did ask my mechanic about this and was told that the lawn watering would not have caused the problem. He thought maybe the Florida mechanic was referencing a commercial system that came on everyday (like a golf course or condo system) and hit the brakes constantly. His opinion was a combination of the car's low mileage, not being driven on a regular basis and salt air. Anyone have any thought about this? Thanks!
Absolutely no way. Even if the sprinker was hitting one wheel it wouldn't affect both sides of the vehicle. These rotors are susceptible to rust to begin with.
Our 2007 MKX sounds like water is sloshing around near the passenger side. A small amount of clear water is coming into the cabin and seems to be coming in from around the heater core. No evidence of antifreeze mixed in with the water. It seems as though the vehicle is retaining condensation from the A/C. Is this a common problem and can you tell me where to locate the condensation drain outlet? :confuse:
2010 MKX, setting both the dials to 68 degrees and automatic. The MKX temperature from the blower stays at 68 degrees and does not cool off the vehicle when the temperature outside is 80 plus. I need to set the passenger side at 60 degrees so it blows cold air not cool air. Is this normal? My wife's lincoln MKS gets cold at 72 degrees, the temp blowing in on hers is 60 degrees until it hits desired temp of 72? help The dealer says this is how the car is programmed and there is nothing he can do?
Does not sound right. After driving for a few minutes, try taking it out of dual mode, hit the Auto button and set the temp to 68 and measure the temp of the air coming out of the vent with an instant read thermometer. Then put it on 60 and see if it's different.
yes the air temp is different, the temp when set at 68 is 68, the temp when set at 60 is 60. also when set at 60 the fan is on high and really blowing cold air, when at 68 the fan is on medium speed.
That sounds like manual mode. Are you sure it's in automatic mode? What is the ambient temp inside the car?
If the car is hot (85+) then any temp setting below 80 should give you very cold air (around 40-45 degrees F IIRC) in automatic mode and the fan should be on or close to max speed until it cools down.
Yep, something's not right - it's possible your system has a leak, has the dealer checked that? I had a 2-year old car with that, turned out to be a cracked fitting.
that is the way it should work but as I have stated above it is in automatic mode and when the temp inside the vehicle is 80 or less the fans do not produce at high or near max but lower to the temp of the setting. The dealer rep states this is the way it is engineered, he also stated this should keep the passengers in the fromt comfortable. note he only stated front. Should have purchased the Equinox....
Hi everybody, One of my friends, has got this type of car. It's got a 4,6 ccm v8 benzin motor. The question is what kind of oil can I use when I'll change it? For example 10W-40, 5W-30, etc Pls help me if you can!
The MKX has never had a 4.6L engine so it must be something else. Doesn't matter though - tell your friend to look in the owner's manual in the glovebox (or look it up online here https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/default.asp ). It will tell him exactly what oil to use.
My 2010 MKX has been in the shop 3 times now. First it was a bad accelerator (2 visits)that took the mechanic a long time to diagnose. They had to put a "black box" recorder on it to give a code before they found the problem. Now it is in the shop again for another electrical issue. My wife says the starter won't kick in and makes a clicking sound. Anyone else out there iwth similar problems?? I think I may have a lemon!
Anyone have new suggestions....Car has left side creaking since I have owned vehicle 6/07.Endless creaking over bumps and anywhere when the vehicle is not on flat level ground. Sounds to be over drivers left shoulder near left passenger door and center panel. Really unable to discern where it is coming from. Dealer unable to repair. First repaired trim on lower driver door..did not fix. Next replace parts in side center panel between doors...did not fix. Now waiting to hear what is next. I have mentioned to dlr about numerous forum comments relating to rear moon roof as possible source. Dlr felt not the issue and these forums are an unreliable source. Engine whinning at 38-40 mph from standing still position. Happens when car is shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Test drive with two different dlr mgrs...cannot hear. 3rd dlr rep acknowledges he can hear noise but it is a normal engine sound he has heard before. Nothing to do since performance not comprised and not a problem. Not normal to me. Never did this 7000 miles earlier. Everytime the vehicle accelerates and shifts gear this whine happens and I am annoyed. No one will address the whine. Brakes make howling noise after car has been sitting for few hours and backed out of a parked position in cooler wet weather. Lasts a few seconds. Dlr has worked on rear rotors, clean e brake shoes and backing plates.....all this did not fix the howl. Waiting to hear what is next. My driver power seat memory position does not work all the time. Expressed these concerns in first few months owning vehicle. Dlr could not duplicate was always the answer and told works fine. Not the case. Still does not work properly. First car I have purchased in 20 years and not leased and needless to say I am not happy and very disappointed with my purchase.
regarding the creaking: have the dealer do a careful, complete lubrication job on the sunroof, see if that helps. Forums 'unreliable'? Ha, typical dealer, ignore what the actual owners are saying!
I own a 2007 Lincoln MKX with 36,000 miles and for the year and mileage on the car i am experiencing too many problems for it to be normal. After having a Cadillac SRX and other crossovers before it, i feel as if the craftmanship of the MKX is not up to par. I figured i should turn to the real experts instead of the guys at the dealership who continually tell me that nothing is wrong with my vehicle...
Okay to start off my air conditioner/heating unit is completely messed up but that seems to be a problem with most owners of the MKX. In the summer time i would set my car at 68 degrees on auto and the air would not cool down. in addition it sounds as if the air conditioner is "pulsating" as if it is breathing "ehhhhh...ahhhhhh" and every now and then white smoke would come from the unit as if it was trying too hard to cool down. The worst is the smell i get from the unit. its not a burning rubber smell but almost like an exhaust/gas smell. It actually makes me sick and gives me a headache and i have to just turn off the air/heat whenever it starts to smell. Also, now in the winter i am experiencing problems with my heating. I will set my car in the 70's and on the lowest level of the fan and i feel as if i am in a tanning bed. The heat is just coming out too hot. In addition i still have the smell issue.
Next, i have had my car in to the dealership 3 times now over my steering and suspension. My car seems to be all over the road. As im going down the parkway (which i do everyday for commuting purposes) i feel as if i have no control over the vehicle. When i go over bumps the car continues to bounce for some time after the fact. When i turn i hear a clicking coming from my tire and as i drive the clicking persists. And whenever i stop my whole steering wheel vibrates as do my pedals and even my seat sometimes (in addition the steering wheel turns right when hitting the brakes).
Other than those two major problems of course i also experience the loud cabin noise as if there is a problem with the lining, and there is a lot of rattling coming from my passenger seat area.
All in all i am very disappointed in the car and if i were not so upside down i would definitely get rid of it. I am the only person ever in the car and at 36000 miles the leather is starting to fade, and the fabric looks worn. The quality is just not there. To me it seems as if ford tried to make a luxury vehicle and failed miserably.
Can anyone please offer any incite on the problems i may be having so i can fix them once and for good and not be so miserable with my vehicle.
I just purchased a used Lincoln MKX with only 29K and experienced the same issues you are talking about. I just had the car towed to the dealership and was wondering what ended up being the problem with your transmission. They said it is still under warranty but obviously the lemon laws would not apply to me. Just hoping for some more insight on your problem.
Just to explain my problem further. My wrench light came on at a stop sign in my neighborhood. When I tried to turn up a hill to head to my house, after being at a complete stop, my engine sounded like it was in neutral. I could never get the car to move forward. I ended up driving to my house in reverse. Luckily I was so close to home or it could have been a dangerous situation.
Our '07 MKX FWD shuddered like it was experiencing low RPM's at a stop light today for the first time. The RPM's were fine, but the vibration was definitely noticeable to both of us in the car. The shuddering lasted for the duration of the light and then stopped completely. About 30 minutes later the check engine light came on after more driving (the car was completely normal during that time). We immediately turned around and took it to the dealer, which was only about 7 miles away.
Got a call a couple of hours later stating the cam phasers have failed and must be replaced. The service advisor stated this is a known problem and also happens with the Ford Edge. The solution involves removal of the engine and replacement of these phasers, which will take a couple of days. The good news is the car is under warranty (it has 35k miles) so this is covered and the dealer provided a loaner (base MKS sedan).
The service advisor says the engine will be "perfect" after the repair and they have done many of these. Makes me nervous, though.
Internet searches result in quite a few reports of this issue in Edge's, but I didn't find any for MKX's.
The 07 Edge and MKX engines are identical. They just haven't sold as many MKX so you don't see as many reports. It's a common and easy repair and should be better than new.
The MKX was completed yesterday, 1/4/11, and I picked it up last night. The engine is running well thus far.
The dealer repaired/replaced both cam phasers while they were in the engine rather than just fixing the one which was faulty. The dealer provided a loaner vehicle (a 2011 MKS sedan) for the duration of the repair, which took longer than they expected due to the New Year holiday weekend. This delay was not an issue for us at all......we had the loaner to drive and I would rather have them keep the car and do it right instead of rushing the repair.
Overall the repair experience was a good one, and the dealer service center was easy to work with. Of course it would have been better if the issue hadn't happened at all, but it seems to be resolved.
Just curious if anyone has played around with their USB player yet on the 2011 MKX. I have a strange issue where the player seems to have randomly assigned track numbers to my albums making it impossible to listen to an album in the correct order. All music is tagged correctly with track #. I have turned indexing off but it still using a random order. Any suggestions?
I've had the car since the beginning of December and so far am really enjoying it. Aside from this issue and a minor annoyance with the Sirius Radio (it needs to go into shop to get the Sirius stations updated), I have really enjoyed the car. Very comfortable and lots of oomph when needed with that 305 hp engine.
I have the very same problem with the heater. The smell is terrible when I slow down or stop at a light forget it's awful. The smell is sickening. Have you had any luck fixing it? I wouls like to know Thanks
The problem is that the transmission is leaking fluid past a defective seal. Ford replaced the seal, PTU assembly, etc. numerous times, but in our (previous) 2008 the problem kept coming back. If the fluid level gets low enough, the car will not move - the trans will slip. We resolved the entire problem with this inferior "luxury" car by going through the Lemon Law and then getting a Lexus RX350. Good luck.
I have this same exact problem with my 2007 mkx. Were you ever able to determine what the problem is? I was thinking it may be a clogged drain... ---any help would be appreciated ---- thank you
I have a 2009 Lincoln MKX; purchased brand new. Problem w/accelerating in stop and go traffic will not go. Push the accelerator, nothing happens, then all of a sudden car just launches forward. Ford mechanics cannot identify problem. Anybody experience this? Car been in shop 1 wk.
This exact thing happened with my 2007 MKX last week (80,000 miles). I pulled out of the Target parking lot and heard a thump in the rear of my car and then I had to press the gas hard to get it going and the wrench light was on.
Originally the dealership said it was the sensors and now they are now saying its more (I don't understand the details) and its at $3,000 dollars now.
I'm not happy about this considering I am the original owner and this goes to the Dealer for every service needed.
I'm curious about the lemon law and if this would work? I live in Kansas (KC Metro)
I had this happen to me when I first got my 2007 MKX. They said it was program (computer) related and just needed updated. Appeared to fix the problem, however, now my car is in there with major transmission problems. (at 80,000 miles).
Comments
Take it to another dealer and I'm sure they'll replace the dash under warranty. And the scratches and swirl marks came from the dealer washing the vehicle before it was delivered - they don't leave the factory that way. Also sounds like they didn't know how to fix it, either.
