I think the perception of what the Pacifica isn't but what it is.

I see it as an alternative to the Saab, Audi and volvo wagons as its bigger and holds more.

    Perhaps not as refined.

    Its a stylish alternative to a mini-van.

Its better ergonomically than Than explorer.

At low to mid 30s, its a compromise vehicle to what is available in differnt areas. Not a heavy duty suv, not a refined 40k wagon, not fully sized as van, not a mini suv, etc.

Saw a "production" Pacifica at the Buffalo, NY auto show last nite.
This one was silver, with 2-tone grey interior.
It had a single, round, polishet exhaust tip.
The 3 Pacificas at the Detroit show last month had one black oval tip.
Guess Chrysler is wrestling with saving a nickel!

Soon my friends end of march Dallas or should i say Ft worth auto show. 5 or so on display and i know where after the show they will go.
It is a segment buster no doubt and i would be first in line to lay a deposit down when the time comes.

The first prodution Pacifica rolled off the line today! There's a story about it on DC's media outlet site:

    http://www.media.daimlerchrysler.com/gms_frame

Maybe now we'll get real specs, options, etc. It's (large object built to hold back water and generate hydroelectric power) sexy !!!
  • moparfevermoparfever Member Posts: 8
Talked with a dealer in the Dallas area. Salesperson pretty knowledgable about prelim specs.
As soon as they are able to order i have to do a 500 dollar deposit and wait 4 to 6 weeks.
Salesperson also commented that availibility somewhere at the end of March.
Does anyone have some suggetions as to which Dallas dealer would be best?
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Any dealer who insists on a deposit is a good one NOT to buy from!
Give them a deposit and they can either write their own deal when the car comes in, or refuse to refund your deposit.
Get on several dealer's list, and work your best deal when the vehicles start arriving.
The local Chrysler rep (Western New York) says the factory will be shipping loaded cars to the dealers for a while before accepting retail orders. I'm going to try for one of these as my 300M lease is up. Good luck!

Saw my second Pacifica yesterday. Unlike the first one, this one had fresh Private Owner plates. This makes me wonder how long they have actually been in production, and WHERE.

It's pretty east to spot a Pacifica in Rush Hour traffic. While it may have "borrowed" its looks from 2 (You name 'em) SUVs, it still holds a distinctive look.

Obviously, it was some Chrysler Exec., because he didn't like me looking at him, in his car...

Anyone have any idea what the curb weight of the Pacifica is? If powered by the same engine as my 300M, and if heavier, any guess as to 0-60 specs?
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
From what I've read, it's a rather porky 4,600 lbs.
No 0-60 numbers yet, but even with some lower gearing it won't be real quick.
Compared to the 300M, the Pacifica is:
      1 inch longer overall
      3+ in. longer wheelbase
      5 in. wider
      10 in. taller
      has all wheel drive.
All this adds weight. 300 HP would be about right!

If the tips are not polished, what will you do?

    What will you Do?
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I'm sure our friends in the aftermarket will come up with some good choices!
Maybe they will come up with a gas strut kit for the hood too!
  • bargamonbargamon Member Posts: 302
I was surprised to read that one. Maybe a preproduction deletion?

The dual exaust would have been a nice touch!

BUt then it would have needed two polished tips.

Anyone know when the first teaser test drive production models hit the showrooms?

Huffines Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Plano, Texas should have about 5 by the end of March. Was told that they will be used for the Auto show in Dallas and come back to the dealer for sale.
Also found out and had in writing that the 500 deposit is refundable and all it was for was to insure that i was at the top of the list when the first models arrive.
I also feel that the 3.5 will do just fine at 250 HP. Remember that the T&C has 200 HP at approximately 4300 LBS curb weight.

Chrysler.com now lets you build and price a Pacifica. Oddly, they still do not provide anything but the "preliminary specifications" that have been available for quite a while. Or, if they do, I haven't figured out how to access it.
  • kconway2kconway2 Member Posts: 9
Mopar, I too live in North Dallas, so I appreciate the info you have provide on availability at the Huffines dealer. Can you post the sales rep's name? I would be interested in a refundable deposit as well... Thanks!
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I built a Pacifica the way I wanted, and the list price came to $40,385 !!!!!!!!!
    So much for affordable!

According to the dealer in North Texas, the ONLY Pacifica's being built today are Spec's, which are loaded with every available option. This makes the car $41K... they have no idea when the cars will be available to be ordered.

But if you factor DVD, Nav,5.1 surround system, moon roof,Integrated phone and voice activation, thats about 5-6g of goodies.

Not to many cars with that level of equip goes for much less.

This is a luxury vehicle and the 25k plus statement was either ignorant or taken out of context. Should be interesting to see what level of equipment is standard. Somehow these things are always more expensive than you think.

Personally, I would be pleased with upgraded stereo, leather, power tailgate, moon roof. Hold the chrome on the wheels! I like nice wheels, just don't like the glitz of chrome. Nav is great and the integration in the speedo is nice, but if its 2k, then I just continue to either take a laptop or print out mapquest prior. Hold the overpriced phone. Great if your in sales and spend a lot of time on the phone. We don't, so I'd rather not spend the $1,600. Dvd, I would love to have it, especially with 5.1 surround, but there are plenty of alternatives. I don't know if we would use it more than 20 hours a year.
Current tv gets used maybe one half the trip time.
And we don't and would not use it on trip less than 3 hours long. call me cruel, but family trips are not like going to the dentist! Idea is to be together.
If we hold a car 3 years and only use it 20 hours
for years, thats $33 per hour of use if its costs $2000. Ok, even at 10$ per hour it sounds high to me.

35-38k sounds about right to me with a decently equiped Pacifica. I look forward to its intro. Sorry for the values statement!
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I don't believe the price is out of line with the content, but I feel several options should be standard on this class of vehicle.
    Such as:
    Leather seating $780
    Heated seats $500
    HID headlights $500
    6 disc CD changer $395
    Cargo rails/net $300
And, while I'm at it, what's with the cheapo hood prop rod instead of gas struts?
    Just my $0.02 worth.
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
Some would argue the opposite, that having such amenities priced as options gives the buyer more choice to customize a car and so you pay for only the things you need, or feel are worth it. Take a look at the options list on a BMW 3 series wagon, for example. This is classed as a "luxury vehicle" too but adding all of the various options can easily add thousands to the base price.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I believe that a prolifiration of options devalue a car's resale value.
Resale value tends to follow the base price, and options don't add much to resale value.
One reason Honda and Acura resale values are so good is because there are very few optopns; each model has it's own resale value.
Chrysler has told their dealers that the pricing policies for the Pacifica are designed to maintain a high resale value. This means no rebates or special pricing.
    I hope it works!
  • bargamonbargamon Member Posts: 302
The Audio offerings were a little confusing.

Personally, I would be looking keeping the price to about 35k and keep some of the toys down.

I just do't want to spend over 35k for a chrysler. Sounds stupid, but just an impression. Have yet to drive the thing or sit in it so I'll hold judgement until then.
  • jamessrjamessr Member Posts: 16
I don't think most people realize that the huge discounts and rebates lessen the value of any car. Honda does have a good plan for it's resale value. I also do believe over producing has some effects on resale but in the case of the Mountaineer it's just not as solid of a brand name as it used to be so the percieved value is bad.
Demand will be the key to the Pacifica and i can tell you from what i have seen of the vehicle it should be real good.
I know of 5 Pacifica's which will be at my location in mid March.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Have your dealer contact his area Chrysler rep. They have a list if pre-spec Pacificas for his/her area that can be sent to your dealer before customer orders can be taken.
If one of these vehicles matches what you want, the rep can have it sent to your dealer.
I have had one offered to me, but it was not the color/interior I wanted, so the dealer is trying again.
  • bbrewer3bbrewer3 Member Posts: 1
Went to my local dealer tonight and put down a refundable $500 deposit. They had a list price of options: cd/dvd-395, cold weather pkg.-500, Infinite surr. sound-700, Nav.-1595, rear video-1070, leather-890, sunroof-895, chrome wheels-750,
hands free cell-275, cargo pkg.-300, HID lights-500. The dealer expects 2 to arrive early March.

The Pacifica fills that void between SUV and minivan that I'm looking for. Even at $38-$40K, it should be a good market. Nothing else has seating for 6 in this type of package, especially when the back seat will be great for small kids while 4 others enjoy captains chairs.

"What colors are you looking at?"
Tom, I would like the silver w/taupe interior.

There's a nice review of the Pacifica in the latest issue of AMI Auto World Magazine, the first I've seen so far. The author praises the Chrysler's interior and fit and finish, and says it is "attractively priced." With Pacifica, he writes, Chrysler "hasn't simply provided the appearance of luxury, but refashioned it to create a unique passenger experience." The article suggests that the Pacifica compares well with the competition, which includes the Acura MDX, Lexus RX300, and BMW X5. Indeed, "luxury intenders may be hard pressed to justify spending thousands more for a high-end nameplate." This is a very encouraging first review. Summing it up, the author writes, "If you shop for a luxury crossover without checking out the Pacifica, you are doing yourself a disservice." I can't wait to sit inside a Pacifica at the upcoming NY auto show!

If you want to read the whole article, I believe it is in the March issue, though I'm not sure since there's no date printed on the cover. Just look for the blue Mazda RX-8 at the newsstands.

I had to wait minutes to sit in it. It looked very nice. If the crowds at the show are any indication, Chrysler has hit on its hands.

This car is fantastic! Full disclosure requires that I mention my wife works for DC. We ordered everything but the integrated phone prep. It handles like a dream with the AWD; quieter than any Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep product we've ever had (approx 1.5 per model year); and the dvd 5.1 infinity sound system makes me wish I was in the back with the kids with my wife driving. This unit was built first week of production - it's a fast-feedback unit. Fit and finish is superb! More at a later date.

    But does it GO?
4600 lbs is pretty porky...can the 3.5/250 HP handle it?
  • revkarevka Member Posts: 1,750
and congratulations on your Chrysler Pacifica! I believe you're the first actual owner in this discussion, btw. We look forward to hearing more details.... Happy motoring!

Can you share with others, what was your cost of your Pacifica?
  • fijikmfijikm Member Posts: 8
So far, with 850 on the odo, Pacifica not as fast as my 2003 Concorde Ltd with same 250HP. I doubt it ever will be, but I do believe it will stay ahead of most -if not all- V6 suv's & minivans. The 2nd-row capt's chairs w/ center console are great for kids and adults alike. Plenty of "neutral" space between my 2 sons; plenty of shoulder room for adults. By the way, leg room in the middle row is great and foot room is unusually generous due to the design of the front seats being up high. At 5'6" I could handle the 3rd row across town, but not across state. More later...

In terms of handling, how does the Pacifica compare to the Concorde, or a long wheelbase Chrysler minivan?
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
You probably can't answer, but what does your wife do at DC? I only ask because I plan on working at a major auto corp. in several years after college. (And there was no email listed.)

It is a nice looking vehicle but what do you need 17 inch wheels for? If you want all wheel drive buy a Subaru they know what they are doing. My last Chrysler product was 72 Plymouth satellite
wagon the last good one. Back to Honda and Toyota
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Why would you ask such a question? Maybe if it was rolling on 24's or something, but 17" wheels are pretty much the norm for cars, trucks, SUV's, and even vans today. This sounds almost like a comment my dad would make, but then again, he often doesn't understand why anyone would want larger than 15" doughnuts on their car.

Basically, 17's provide a very stable rolling base for most cars, not so small that the car is tipsy and not great around corners, but not so large that you feel every piece of dust on the road.

Then again, this is a luxury SUV crossover! If anything, 17's should be a base, with 18's optional for added sport. Now, back to the Pacifica!
  • bargamonbargamon Member Posts: 302
    Yanker,

My grandfather had an imperial in 1960. Great Car!

A lot of the same technology used in that 72' wagon went into the pacifica.

The Satillite you had, was that a lease?
  • moltarmoltar Member Posts: 5
Bummer, the folks at the upcoming international auto show in Raleigh, NC said there is a very slim chance that the Pacifica would be there. It was advertised that it would be there. I wonder why they pulled it out?

I would like to have taken my family and all got in the car without having to go to a dealership, whenever it finally gets the Pacifica.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Check when the event starts...if it made Buffalo it should make Raleigh!

The press kits for the 2004 Pacifica and crossfire are now available on DC's media outlet site at http://www.media.daimlerchrysler.com/gms_frame

Login as guest, click on Chrysler Group, and then the kit you want to see on the far right. I haven't checked out Crossfire's info, but Pacifica's is pretty extensive, including 27 pictures and long descriptions of some of the vehicle's features, including the navigation system, Sirius Satellite Radio, UConnect and more.

Still waiting to see one in person. I'll do my best not to hit anything the first time I see one on the road!
  • yankeryanker Member Posts: 156
I'm one of those who hate SUV's They are nothing but a truck designed to keep the 30-50 age group entrapped in Detroit iron. They are ugly useless and poorly put together and use too much gas. i remmevber the 70's and buying three dollars worth of gas at a time.
  • yankeryanker Member Posts: 156
Great car but I stopped buying Chrysler products and bought one Chevy Caprice awesome an 84 Ford wagon nice looking but itneeded a new engine at 66000. Since then 8 Toyotas 4 Subaru's one Honda. Looking at Honda Accord and Toyota Camry XLE now

...and maybe there is a board for people who don't know what they are talking about!
But back on topic...Chrysler rep still looking for a Pacifica for me.
I hope he can find a "pre-spec" silver /taupe unit that comes close to my needs...my 300M lease is up in 2 weeks!
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
...for the link to the Pacifica Press Kit.
There is a wealth of product info I have not yet seen elsewhere.
Makes me want one even more!
