Where did you get your fog lights fellow canadian?

On the project of converting regular cluster to LS Sport Appearance cluster.. I'm at a dead end. My chevy parts person had the cluster ready to be sent off for programing, then the people who make all the clusters for chevy said that it will not work. That the computer in my impala is not compatable with the one in the Sport.

At this point I stopped because I have no idea if its possible to change whatever computer they are talking about, and if it is possible, if it would cost so much that it would be crazy to do so.

I thought that I would be the first one to document the cluster change and to have before and after pics..

In other news, I have the tail light assembly, bumper extension and license plate filler parts and am going to have those parts painted and installed, at which point I will put new pics up at my website.

It will work, the PCMs are the same.... what year is your car?
  • ghostwolfghostwolf Member Posts: 91
2001.. maybe that is the problem? Since they didn't start the LS Sport until well into 2002?
  • atbearatbear Member Posts: 322
That's what I was thinking too, ghostwolf.. that would make sense..
  • ghostwolfghostwolf Member Posts: 91
Is this possible to do? Change a 2001 to a 2002/2003? Then the cluster would work... I don't know what all is involved in something like that, but I'm enjoying exploring this issue.
  • dgonzalez13dgonzalez13 Member Posts: 110
with a 2001 3.8Engine police cluster, and it worked fine. Mileage was different (stored on the cluster), but works fine even though max speed MPH is different.
  • atbearatbear Member Posts: 322
Yes, you can change PCMs without any problems. Good idea, I didn't think of that... I've kinda put this cluster thing on that back burner for me cause I'm low on cash right now... but I'd love to hear how it works out. If you change to a 2003 PCM, then the Cluster will work for sure...

Hey Chevyblue. I purchased 130 watt 893 bulbs from Mopac Auto Supply here in Vancouver. They cost me $130.00 but not worth the money with poor Chevy fog light reflectors. I'm still working on putting a mirrir finish on the factory reflector.

Hi everyone. Got a question for you Impala lovers. I've got a 2002 base, dark blue, firefighter plates, etc. Looks beautiful. I have a question in reference to the aux power drop. I know you can get a part that plugs into the aux power drop. What does it look like? What are the connectors on it? Right now, I've got my radio/scanner/etc wired into the aux drop directly, but it's not very nice looking.
  • spark1espark1e Member Posts: 18
I also have a question about aux power. I just got a 2001 LS and need a connection to the 'retained accessory power' to control a relay which will supply power to some of my radios and accessories I'm installing. What's a good way to tap into the RAP?

    Thanks

go to www.impalahq.com and click on the "How To" button. Then scroll down toward the bottom of the page. There is an excellent write up with illustrations of the power drop.

I just purchased a 2003 base Impala and the cushion on the center armrest does not extend the entire lenght of the armrest because of the cupholder. I find this very uncomfortable and was wondering if anyone knows of a adapter that fits into the cupholder with a cushion?

I had the same problem some of you are having. Well actually it happened to my wife (to my car) while I was on deployment. The window switch on the driver side went bad. The driver's window will go down but is a pain in the butt to get back up. I ended up having her just by a new switch ($85) and told her I'd put it in. Luckly she figured out the "right" way to wiggle the switch and it kept on working until I got home.

ANYWAY, (sorry about the rambling) I was wondering if any has thought about making the passenger switch (on the driver's control) the one press down. I haven't taken the old switch apart yet to see how it works. Anyone know how they work or tried this?

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck in defeating the DRL's or the automatic headlight system and has anyone replaced the oe cluster on a 2002LS 3.8 with the 9C1 Police cluster or with a Monte Carlo SS cluster????
  • dgonzalez13dgonzalez13 Member Posts: 110
with the 9c1 cluster. It works fine, still accurate 9tested with stationary radar gun) but you will lose your Odometer reading, it will start over at whatever the new cluster is set at. i bought mine from a wrecked cop car, so it had 9k miles, and went up from there.
  • teenintyteeninty Member Posts: 9
!go to hq impala! i've installed a ip cluster out of a 2001 monte carlo into my 2001 impala ls so far i have had no problems and everything works fine even the speedo seems to be right. i've got a friend that is going to help me check it in the next day or two so i'll let you know. it sure is nice to see that all the gages work i was a little scared that the oil pressure would not work but i guess that chevolet needed the information for the computer
  • dgonzalez13dgonzalez13 Member Posts: 110
Did you lose your displayed miles on the odometer too or did it keep your existing mileage number? I am thinking of doing what you did, not sure if it would fix my current displayed mileage problem (it started counting over again, did not retain my odometer numbers)
  • teenintyteeninty Member Posts: 9
oh i did forget to tell you that yes you lose your millage but it still counts like it should, i read the orginal millage before i changed the ip cluster and then wrote both in my owners maunal so as to document the millage i was told you have to send the clusters to chevorlet to have them matched(more money)i was told that to make sure things work is to get the same year clusters ie if you own a 2000 impala get a 2000 monte carlo ss cluster this way if chevorlet changes anything in the wiring then both should match. i got a 2001 monte carlo ss gage cluster for my 2001 impala with as close a millage as i could like i said it was an eazy swap and the oil pressure, volt, fuel, water temp, speedo, tach and all the lites and indicators work wish ya luck on your swap

Is your impala a 3.4 or 3.8 engine? Does it matter which engine you have? The montes all have the 3.8 right? It sounds like you bought a cluster from a salvage yard car. How much did you pay? Did you price a new one from Gm? If so how much did they quote? I really want to do this swap but I want as much info from people like you who have done the swap first. Thanks in advance for your response.

Monty cluster P/N 10306213 $174.06 plus shipping. This from GM parts direct.com.
  • dan180dan180 Member Posts: 3
Is that part# from a 2003 monte carlo?
  • tommy42tommy42 Member Posts: 70

    Hi,

I'm trying to understand how tire sizing works. I understand that 225/60/16 works out as the following:

    225 = Width
    60 = Height
    16 = Wheel size

If that is correct, I need new tires for my 2000 LS with stock 16 inch rims. However, I want to get the widest possible tire. I'm also installing new springs dropping the car about 1.5 in front 1.7 in back, so I want a tire that will fill the gap. Can anyone gemme some Skooln?

    Thanks!

    BRAD

when my tires wore out, i bought a set of american eagles they are 235 55 16 i was going to go to 245 50 16 but as it stands the 235's rub on the plastic inside fender guards so i'm glad i did not go with the even wider 245's

as for the cluster gage it cost me $65.00 at a recycle yard. my car is a 2001 impala ls with the 3.8 engine. i got a cluster set from a 2001 monte carlo ss with a 3.8 engine. i get a lot of my parts from the local recycle yards. i also have a 1981 fiat spyder and parts are hard to find

When I did some research on the swap, my parts people gave me part number 10306212. When I e-mailed gmparts direct with VIN from a LS Sport,
they said that is for the Impala Sport Appearance Package.

What I am wondering is if both part numbers are the same cluster or is there any difference in how they look? The price for both of them are within 2 dollars of each other at gmparts direct.

Does anyone HAVE any experience with driving lights for an '03 Impala. I'm looking for a pr. that will be useful yet not distract from the car's appearance. I just had the windows tinted with a
'light' tint, and love it. Next is a 'clear' Bra.

Does anyone know if chevy is going to offer gloss black mud flaps for the 2004 Impala SS. instead of the standard matte finish ones...
  • tommy42tommy42 Member Posts: 70
    Check with Power Flow Inc.Com.
  • ghostwolfghostwolf Member Posts: 91
I just wanted to clarify.. that my info showed that 10306212 cluster was for the Impala Sport Appearance Package. The 10306213 was for the Monte and may or may not have an extra boost gauge for the super charger.

I have not ordered either cluster yet but I did double check my local Chevy Dealer with gmpart.com and gmpartsdirect.com

I have an '01 LS with factory sunroof. I want to add the overhead console. Does anyone know if the necessary pigtails will be where I need them? I think there are 2 on the OHC, but I don't have it in front of me to know for sure. The OHC unit I've seen includes the "roof" switch.

    Hey,
Has anyone painted their tail lights on the back of their Impala
(obviously the back :)? I can't justify spending $600 for the tail
light covers, so I wanted to paint them, but I ran into trouble.

-One place refused to do it because they said the paint would fall or
    flake off.

-Another place warned me the paint wouldn't stick but he would do it
    for $150-$200

-The Third place said the same thing and wants to charge $300.

Is there a Special way to paint the taillights so the paint is
durable? How much have you guys been charged?
    Thanks

Am curious if anyone has heard of anyone doing a
V8 RWD transplant into a newer FWD Impala?

Check out www.impalahq.com to see the vinyl block out kit that is available for Impalas through CrazyGraphics for about $75. He also sells the set on e-bay all the time for about $60. As long as you have a Black, Silver, or Navy Blue Metallic Impala this could be a good option for you.

    Hey folks,
I bought a "new" 2002 Monte Carlo 6 gauge cluster for my Impala. It looks really nice, but before I install it I want to increase the milage on it to match my current milage on my car.
Do you have any idea where I can get that sort of thing done?
    Thanks
    Ken
  • txguytxguy Member Posts: 57
Go to Impalahq.com He's got an excellent explanation on the options, the vinyl and painted methods.

I installed the Crazy Graphics vinyl on my galaxy silver '01 LS and it looks great! A perfect match. I did only the center section worried I would not have the skills necessary to do the tail lights. I get lots of looks, people think it's an SS or a 2004. I just turned 81K miles on my IMP and still running strong.
  • dgonzalez13dgonzalez13 Member Posts: 110
I swapped mine for a 9C1 police cluster, and no dealer will re=program it for less than the cost of buying a new one from them. I think it's a conspiracy.
  • ghostwolfghostwolf Member Posts: 91
    www.specmo.com

They are an authorized ACDelco Repair Center.

The cost is $88.00 plus shipping.
$15.00 to FedEx back to you.
Method of payment is Credit Card or COD.
They will probably need to fax you an odometer statement for your to fill in and return to them.

greetings, i ordered the cluster with part number 10306212. This is the cluster that is $2 cheaper. I got it from GMpartsdirect.com. it works fine but the bad thing is it's all metric. KPH for the speedo and celcius for the temp. Probably the Canadian part. I have no idea if it is the part number that signifies it as a metric cluster. Be warned... No big deal though, i plan to change it to white face and it should all work in imperial since the speedo shows miles on it anyways and the same for the temp. One other thing, it is for a 2002 LS sport look and i have a 2001 LS. Everything works and the info center is updated. Now to just update the mileage and i'm off.
  • ghostwolfghostwolf Member Posts: 91
Wow I did the exact same thing. (got part 10306212 instead of 10306213) I was going to sell my cluster to a canadian but then was told about the white overlays, so I'm just going to do that instead.. which is how I had the info for resetting the odometer that I gave to someone a few messages back.

Whats neat is that the clusters will be pretty rare because they will be american gauges but the message center will have all the canadian graphics instead of words (for door ajar, traction active, etc).
  • n2thevoidn2thevoid Member Posts: 14
I got to thinking about it, the metric cluster will be nice but the mileage will never be right. Because it's in Kilometers. think i might drive on it anyways. i plan to own the vehicle for the life of it anyways. i'll be spayshul

One thing about the overlays i found though. The cluster i got has a three piece face. i found some at pfyc.com in the monte store, but i have no idea if the are a three piece overlay or just a single. I wrote the store and asked but the reply i got was that they had no idea if it was or not. But they did say that it was an OEM replacement so i think it will be a three piece.
  • txguytxguy Member Posts: 57
On my '01 LS I can switch between metric and good old USA measurement by holding down both buttons on the DIC above the rear view mirror. It switches both the DIC readout and the speedo odometer from US to metric. You just have to hold both buttons for a few seconds until it switches.
