i All,

Can you recommend a good mechanic for a '89 944 in the Boston Area and not dealer. Dealer prices too high for me at the moment until I pay off the Porsche. Need the mechanic to be able to do oil changes, tune-ups, etc.

Thanks for the help

Sorry you're not in California, I could help you. But I do want to say one thing:

Be sure you go to a Porsche specialist, not just a "German car repair shop"...just because someone works miracles on Mercedes or BMW, that doesn't mean he knows a Porsche from a Blender.

Look for a CLEAN shop and for some great looking Porsches on the premises. This probably tells you the shop is competent...but doesn't tell if if they are honest....that requires that you corner a couple customers or ask around about the shop's reputation.

I'm sure Boston must have a good shop of this type. Maybe the PCA website could help you further.

I know of a place which do work ONLY on European Cars. It is in Northboro, MA. About an hour from Boston. I always see MB, Porsche, BMW, Saab, Volvo, etc in their lot. My ex-financial consultant had a 911 and always brought it here and he said they are honest and do great work. I can't remember the name on top of my head but I can find out if you like.

    Steve.

Try Autobahn Performance on Rt1 S in Peabody. About 15 mins north of the Tobin Bridge on the Southbound side of Rt 1.

The guys in Northboro are European Car Service on West Main Street. One of the owners owns a 911 Turbo, and they specialize in repairing Porsches.
