The biggest reservation I have about the vehicle (and the Equinox) is the engine is made by the Communist Chinese.
Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think you should be making deals that enrich your enemies. Corporate America doesn't care about that, but they didn't care about that in the 30's either.
People and pets are getting poisoned by Chinese products. Unsafe toys are being re-called by Mattel. Chinese brand re-labeled tires are coming part faster then Firestones!
All to save a buck. We are the stupid consumers who vote for cheaper products.
I don't think that the overall Chinese content for the vehicle is extraordinarily high...I could be wrong, but doesn't the label on the window say something like 15% Chinese content.
Also, considering "Corporate America" in the car industry is on the ropes vs. the Japanese, the alternative to buying a vehicle with less Chinese content likely means buying a vehicle made in Japan (= little to no North American content). For example, the RAV4, Highlander, and Mazda CX-7 are nearly 100% Japanese. Not sure about the CRV.
That being said, I agree that I'd rather see an engine from the "free world," preferably the US or at least North America, both from a quality and "feel good" standpoint.
Sometimes between 0 and 10 miles an hour I get a clicking/clanging noise coming from the rear of my 2007. Any ideas on what it might be. Do have the dealership look at it and they said it was just the way the brake pads are designed and it all looked good to them.
I recently purchased a new '07 Torrent and have about 3500 miles on it now, and have always been annoyed by a "squeaking" noise coming from the front dash directly in front of the drivers seat over the steering wheel. I can hear it at all speeds (from pulling out of the driveway to the highway even) whenever I go over any little bumps in the road. It is subtle, but I can hear it over the noise of the road and my music. Almost sounds like a faint clicking or a CD skipping. It was driving me crazy, I took it in to have the dealership look at it, they added some foam but now the noise is almost worse! I think it's caused by the piece on the dash directly over the steering wheel rubbing against foam within the dash. Love the car so far but this one problem is driving me crazy!
Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?
Does anyone have any real-world pictures of the 2008 Torrent in deep blue metallic? I don't really trust the way Pontiac's configurator applies colors and I haven't yet seen one at a dealer ...
I just rented an AWD Torrent in Buffalo, NY. The inset windshield is a very poor design for the Snow Belt. The windshield is inset 2-3 inches at the bottom. This creates a large amount of snow accumulation that does not shed like other windshields. I was happy with the handling in snow but the accumulation of snow on the driver’s side would be a deal breaker for me. I would expect that this would create an issue accumulating snow driving in heavy snow fall.
I have recently received my insurance renewal for my 2007 torrent AWD. I've been told that the vehicle safety rating has gone down and thus my premium has gone up. Has anyone else gotten an increased insurance bill recently?
hello all, former GM employee here. my dad is trying to buy a torrent for my mom, and i decided to come online and see if anyone on the boards could provide me with a GM "Friends & Family" coupon code for this purchase. I would greatly appreciate it and he would be buying "American" because I'm almost positive he's gonna go foreign otherwise and I would hate to see that. Well hope someone on the boards can help me out, reply or send me a private message/email (benito.camelagmail.com) if you can help, thanks.
I had a 2006 Torrent until I totaled it. I now have a 2007. To me the 07 rides better and definitely gets 2-4 mpg more than the 06. I also like the gauge layout better. Now for the questions, has anyone else had a problem in very cold weather -10 or more below with the all wheel drive not working. I have had the AWD, Traction Control, ABS and Stability warnings all come on at once. After it warms up they all work again. In both cars I have had problem with water getting into the spare tire well.
Hi p3001 - I applaude your Dad wanting American, but and you probably know this... the 3.4L engine is from China (yes China), just look at lower right of sticker for where tranny & engine from. I just looked at them again this AM to see that the 3.6L is from Japan which I prefer, again personal preference. My choice if buy is the 3.6 only avail in the GXP version but front wheel drive... I don't need the GXP AWD. I do like the size of the vehicle. Have a 05 Mazda Tribute now... GREAT vehicle! w/the 4 cyl avg'ing 26mpg and hate to give it up, but if do, the next logic is a slightly more roomy, more powerful (6 cyl) SUV type vehicle. Good luck with whatever you get :>) regards.
Dear Idoneyneel, Your statement caught my attention: "I would really like to support American car companies. I'm not willing to pay extra to do it." That's the biggest problem in this country today. American jobs are being lost because too many people are not willing to to support American products. I for one can hold my head high when I say I drive a Pontiac, but everyone I know hangs their head when you ask them where their foreign car was made. Good luck and have a great day!
Anyone know a good method of getting stains out of the standard Torrent seat fabric?
I havent spilled much, but anything as simple as water leaves a discolored ring on the seat. If water leaves a ring, I'd hate to think what a cleaning solution would do, so i'm a little hesitant.
We have a 2007 Torrent AWD that we bought new. We like the car very much but at 13,000+ miles it uses a quart of oil every 2,000 miles. GM has a service bulletin that says this level of use is normal in all of its engines yet both the dealer and internet searches say this isn't encountered often. Is anyone else having this oil use problem? Any advice? We're concerned that the engine is defective and will not last. We've never had this much oil use with other vehicles.
I can't imagine any newer car using a qt every 2k miles and being called "normal use." You've obviously alerted the dealer to the problem, but other than having them run it through the scope for any issues, there really isnt a whole lot they can do.
Hi , Last night I drove my wifes torrent and I notice a sound that sound like and faint turbo prop . Rolled down the rear window and the noise hurt my ears.To me it sounds like a wheel bearing going. Any thoughts ??
I have the same problem. I just return from a two week vacation to Japan, and I was surprised to find water under the carpet on the right rear passenger area :surprise: . I am going to remove the back seat and find out where is coming from. I lift the side of the carpet and placed a very absorbent cloth (had to do that two times a day, going on my second week doing that!). I noticed a hose that runs across the floor in that area; I think that is the hose that brings water to the rear seat area. I will let you know........
I have a 2006 AWD Pontiac Torrent and have had it in the repair shop repeatedly- many times for the same issue. I just broke the 36,000 mile mark and after getting no help from the dealership or GM I reluctantly purchased an extended warranty with the assumption that I will have further problems. Some issues I have had are: 1) Both front wheel bearings were replaced (20,000 miles) 2) Air hoses that keep detaching causing the check engine light to go on (had it in the shop more than 5 times for this issue- finally the service people found a GM bulletin on the problem) 3) A bolt came loose from the oil pan during an out of town trip over Christmas and got sucked up into the flywheel pretty much destroying thousands of dollars in parts 4) Starting issues- vehicle turns over but the engine doesn't kick in right away- after a couple tries it will typically start but it is hard to replicate for the service department Before my warranty expired I tried to address the issues and non-resolvance with the dealership where purchased (Walser in Bloomington, MN). The salesman was inattentive, the representative they gave me was unhelpful and just tried to sell me an extended warranty and they even tried to sell me a newer model. The service rep told me that GM gives you a 36,000 mile warranty so that all the kinks can get worked out- don't you think they would work out the kinks before they manufacture and sell a vehicle? After contacting Pontiac they were even worse than the dealership. I weighed the costs and decided it would cost less to buy an extended warranty and deal with the issues for three more years than to trade in a vehicle with a long service report and get the disappointingly low trade in price the dealers are offering.
As a satisfied owner of a 2006 Torrent with 46000 trouble free miles i have been thinking about the future of the GM lineup. Given the current state of the auto industry and the economy and GM, things are going to have to change. we all know chevy, gmc, buick and saturn have the lambda series midsize crossover suvs. chevy, saturn, pontiac have the small crossovers,,the equinox, torrent and vue. i have read about the 2010 equinox and 2010 gmc terrain, but nothing about the 2010 torrent and the vue recently recieved a redesign. since there is much speculation about the future of pontiac, will pontiac cede the torrent to buick? this would give gmc, chevy buick and saturn each a midsize and compact crossover. the compact crossover segment seems to be a popular market segment. what do you think will happen?
I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent FWD and have had some of the same problems that seem to keep showing up in the forums. 1. At 17000 miles replaced both wheel bearings. 2. At 10000 replaced ignitions switch. 3. Service warning light kept coming on and the dealer couldn't find anything wrong so their guess was that the gas cap was not tight. I just happened to be under the hood inspecting the filter and found a hose had came loose from the filter box, attached the hose and the service light went away. Had to us Ductape to keep the hose on. 4. Tires wore out at 18000 miles. Tires were rotated and balanced per the owners manual but because the tires wore even, GM said that it is not covered under the warranty. 5. The car now has 52000 miles and it is in the shop to have the front Rt wheel bearing replaced and the rotors replaced.
I noticed my car hums when its in driving mode. When I roll down the window, I do not notice any loud noise when driving. How do you tell if its the bearings?
On my 07 torrent I discovered a leak under the right side passenger seat. Looks like rain water and I am not sure where it is comming from. Has anyone out there have the same issue?? Possible solutions?
I like a few others have had problems with my air bag sensor going bad, just like the recall states. I called my local dealer and he states I have the same problem as the recall but my Vin number doesn't match the Vins covered in the recall. I'm very disappointed in how pontiac handled this. There went several hundred dollars :-(
