Excellent experience, in and out in 40 minutes. Paperwork and financing done before I arrived. Pretty much sign and drive. Thanks Walter and Lisa

I'll bet there is a 3.9% deal on the way soon after the bailout passed. But then again who knows. The civic moves well. I have waited all year working various dealers and found that they are not hurting to sell this model.
Edmunds is showing TMV price of $18,230, whereas carsdirect.com is giving $17,471...could anyone kindly share his/her experience buying a new 2008 Honda Civic LX 4dr sedan in any of the dealerships around SF Bay area?...I was wondering if i could get a better deal in case i am willing to pay the entire amount rather than use financing or it is better to mention this at the end?
I am interested in the base model, do not need navigation or other bells and whistles...just want to survey what was OTD price people paid for 2008 Honda Civiv LX 4dr in SF Bay area this month or month before...thanks in advance
BTW, my recent experience with carsdirect.com is their pricing appears to be DEflated on the website. Also, I happen to like haggling for price with a human and not leave it to someone else to deliver my car.
i am looking for standard package with standard specs, just wanna get a handle on what is the average price people are paying at this moment for 2008 Honda Civic LX 4-dr sedan with a standard package in SF Bay area (by standard i mean specs mentioned at http://www.kbb.com/kbb/NewCars/Specifications/2008_Honda_Civic_Sedan_223770.aspx- ) .
Thanks in advance
i live in the bay area also, but i negotiated the '08 lx deal for my parents who live in richmond, va.
Strategy:
my strategy was probably similar to others on this website--i just asked a bunch of dealers (local and a bit further away) to beat my previous lowest price until...
as far as buying with cash, i'm not sure if that helps or not, although we did buy cash.
you might try emailing dealers in socal, just to see if it might be worthwhile to buy the car there. or, if you get a great deal from one of them, you can use that price to leverage a better deal locally--this is what i did/do.
Best Honda Dealer in the Bay Area:
last year, i bought a new accord in the bay area and thought i got a good deal through grace honda in san bruno (23.5K for a V-6 with NAV). they even beat the socal dealerships i shopped around at and overall, it was a pretty good buying experience.
also, i think i remember a dealership in the east bay had good prices, but i don't remember which dealer it was.
Worst Honda Dealers (at least in pricing):
ANDERSON HONDA--probably the worst prices i found in the...world. ok, maybe not the world, but...
Stevens Creek--Meh!
Mike Anderson--priced like they're in burlingame. oh...they are in burlingame!
Any other questions?

Your suggestion on just getting quotes from a bunch of dealers (especially your idea of asking for quotes from socal dealerships) and then using the best price to leverage locally is definitely helpful...i will surely try that. I will also check into San Bruno Honda and dealerships in east bay. any other advice is appreciated....
Here's another option for people in the Bay Area--Cartelligent.com. It's a car buying service that charges $300-500 to find you the best deal and has a guarantee on the lowest price. A friend bought his car (an Audi A3) that way--it wasn't a crazy steal, but it was a good deal and he didn't have to do any of the leg work. You tell them the specifics and give them about a day to search for it. When they find it, they let you know the price and you can accept or deny it. One catch is that they can't get cars that are in super high demand--eg, Prius, Mini Coopers, etc. Civics shouldn't be a problem though, so I think it's definitely worth looking into.
Disclosure: I don't work in the auto industry, so I have no affiliation (which includes my family and friends) with any of the aforementioned companies/dealerships. Just trying to keep the buying process fair.
Is the price I paid should be considered good currently?
denglu,
I actually have paid $16,000 for the car, + $259 as "doc. prep. fees", $800 as Mass tax (5%) and about $60-$80 for title. The prices for same LX sedan are about $200 more, but my car was probably "special" (they have marked is as "clearance") and I guess the actual prices for 4-door sedan might be about $600 or such more (after an extensive bargaining).
I am ordering a Civic LX-S - the deal won't happen until the car gets here, of course, and that's not for up to 60 days. It would be nice to know what's happening with rates.
btw, would LOVE to have the EX-L ($$$)!
Cloth seats, no Nav
$22,345 (incl. dest)
1,340 6% NJ Tax
48 Transfer tag
$23,733 OTD
Good deal?
Look forward to 45 MPG and not in a Prius like everyone else getting that mileage... :P
first post here. Just was given an offer for an '09 CIVIC DX-VP auto for $16,296 plus T&T. This price includes the $670 dest. no extras, just mats.
Live just north of New York City. Appears to be just under invoice. Is this a good price, should I continue shopping?
BTW, he also had an 08 LX sedan auto for $16,800 ( I think this includes dest )
I hope it will not happen, because total mess may follow. So buy now - catch the nice moment prices, save the money and the USA.
Good luck to all !
Accord vs. the Civic Si. Practical vs. FUN!!!! LOL!!! I've found good pricing on the Accord but they seem to be holding the line more on the left over Si's.... Even with 2009's on the ground.
I've got one lined up with Nav for about 400 under invoice? 21,400 on a 23730 msrp and invoice of 21,881.
Good deal? :confuse:
Anybody buy a 2008 Civic Si Sedan and get a good deal?
2 weeks ago, I couldn't negotiate anywhere near this price. In the past 5 days, everything changed. Also, I think it balances out with the APR for the loan... Honda isn't offering a deal on this for Civics (like Toyota is), so I think that the lower price for the car is where you can make up for this.
I'm seeing invoice or below on the Gas Civic's and Accords.
The MSRP seems very high to me. I called in and the MSRP over the phone is also very high compared to the real Honda MSRP.
It does not seem to be based on the added features. I asked on the phone for a MSRP for a civic EX-L 4 door automatic WITH NO ADDED STUFF, and was told $26700. The real MSRP is around $22555.
Am I missing something? I realize that dealers add stuff and often charge a lot more then it is worth. I also know that the real MSRP is printed on the window. But is it even legal to misrepresent the MSRP on a on going basis? That dealership and another one right next to it (Toyota owned by the same owners) are the only ones I can find that consistently do such stuff, and on significant number of thier cars. See for yourself:
For Civic:
http://www.westhillshonda.com/inventorydisplay.aspx?brw=new-honda-civic-sedan&s=- new
For Accord:
http://www.westhillshonda.com/inventoryDisplay.aspx?s=new_detail&year=2008&make=- Honda&model=Accord%20Sdn&inv=391&vin=1HGCP26828A165346&total=54&pos=3¤t=6&- size=10
You can click on other models. Chose a model then click on "inventory".
I did bring it to thier attention, and they do not seem too concerned or willing to cooperate. In fact, I called Honda USA, customer service, and they did not seem to care either. I asked: are you not interested in protecting your end customer? The guy thought it was an issue for me to deal with, not Honda. He said that Honda COULD call the sales manager, but it is better if I do, they are not going to.
I think the customer service guy at Honda has a screwed up judgment. A dealer is misrepresenting thier MSRP, which is the suggested value DECLARED by Honda.
What do you think? Again, is it legal to alter the MSRP on advertising materials and on the phone? Does anyone know? Does anyone care?
The point where you have to be careful is when you review and (especially) sign the sales/lease agreement (you know that 8.5 x seemingly 22 in long triplicate thin document) . I don't know of one document that says plus/minus MSRP, plus/minus invoice etc. Everyone I have ever seen are specific numbers. So for example doc fees can vary wildly and is infinitely negotiable!. Indeed you can put the KIBOSH on a deal by not agreeing to (whatever)r doc fees.
MSRP is a suggested price. A dealer can advertise what ever price they want - plus or minus from MSRP. The exception would be if there is a group of dealers that co-op advertising. In that case, you're not allowed to advertise anything other then national promotions and MSRP.
I understand that a dealer is NOT BOUND to sell at MSRP.
HOWEVER: the MSRP is a number that is set by the manufacture, not the dealer.
It is the ONLY number providing some REFERENCE POINT for the deal.
For example, if you search the price on Edmunds, you are given "what others are paying", but ALSO what the MSRP is as a reference. If you go to say Consumer reports, you get a basic idea about the car price range from the MSRP.
If someone is putting in your head a referance, an expectation for a "starting price", and it is inflated by some thousands of dollars, you are being compromised.
So is the practice by the West Hill Honda and West Hill Toyota legal? I mean, is it consumer fraud?
A dealer can set any price they want, OK. But when someone is stating the MSRP they are stating what THE MANUFACTURE's suggested price is. So altering what the manufactures says is a wrong thing to do. How can a dealer calim that the Honda suggested price is anything other then what Honda's suggested price is? Is that not consumer fraud?
I went to other sites, and could not find anyone else "practice" that sort of a thing. It seems to me that Bremerton West Hill Honda and West Hill Toyota are the only ones (same owner).
That's the point they would start at. After a tense negotiating session you would walk out of there with a Civic at the actual MSRP. A real bargain..
That's (MSRP) on the first sticker, and includes Delivery.. That sticker should be identical at every Honda dealer in the whole USA. Good luck!
PS - check the Edmunds sales $$ for that Zip Code. That's right here on this site, under New Cars.

Lowest quote I got is 16990, second lowest is 17066. I think they are before TTL and hopefully they include destination fee. I am kinda surprised by these numbers; thought it would be higher in Nor Cal. Is there something I don't know going on?
Edit: It's probably not include destination charge... So are those good price after 670 destination charge?
I got a quote for 20,991.00 + TTL. Or 22,864.32 OTD w/ TN tax. Is this a good deal? Also another in GA for 20,754.00 + TTL, 499 is in document fee's.
For the people in the NW, I believe your from Seattle. All the Honda dealers in the NW charge that $2,000 fee. If you don't mind driving, drive down 3 hours to Wilsonville, OR. When I lived in Portland, they didnt charge that fee and advertised it. double check though.
