that sounds pretty good overall - much better than anyone would have expected 90 days ago for a brand new fuel efficient 09 EX civic.

my thought the whole time was if i can get the OTD on an EX automatic with ttl, the 3% tax, and other fees (plus some basic accessories like floormats and mudguards) to $20,000~ on a low apr, i've succeeded and can justify the new car purchase over a used one.

doc fees in NC for most dealers i've talked with are $400, with a couple a bit higher. typically that is the one thing i hear is non-negotiable from all the dealers (they even have big signs in their lobbys that state it is legal here up to a certain amount). just means i've got to negotiate the price of the car that much lower ;)

The best price I've found so far for a Honda Civic LX Coupe Automatic is $18,804. This includes all fees, destination etc. Is this a good price? Most of the other quotes were in the $19K range. Also, does anyone know the invoice of this model? It's not listed on Kelley Blue Book yet and I can't find it on the internet. The MSRP is $18,625. Thanks!

Agree with Amking about the Fee slapped on in some States. In Florida its $599.00 and absolutely no way to reduce that one. You can with other stuff but not the Doc Fee's in Florida.

Its actually called "Pre-Delivery Service Fee" in Florida and its in Black Bold Type over all other printed numbers on the Sales Contract
  • ruking1ruking1 Member Posts: 19,826
For my $599.00, then it makes sense to shop in places that have lower doc fees! Tax and title will still be the same, as the rate is where the car is domiciled anyway. Again this is pretty easy to find out from the git go. Just ask them. If they have what you happen to like, and the doc fee is (still ) high, go to the dealer that has low doc fees and tell them to search the inventory and/or ID the store that has the exact one you happen to want.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Shopping dealer fees is a huge waste of time, way too many other variables in the transaction. Just make sure you know what they are when starting the negotiations and be sure to reduce your offered price by the amount of their dealer fee.
  • ruking1ruking1 Member Posts: 19,826
I can understand that take/ attitude, especially since they are your nickels!

When I bought one of mine, (non Civic, $ 30. doc fees and the transaction was conducted over the phone, tops 7 mins) they also asked how I wanted it delivered ( even offering to drop it in front of my house) at no extra charge. The variables in the transaction were

    1. 300 over
    2. invoice
    3. 30 doc fees.
    4. plus TTL)
    5. full tank

The Civic was 10% under invoice, $24. doc fees. plus TTL, full tank.

Rediculosly high down here in South Florida but 99% won't budge. Just need to get an OTD price and let them jockey the numbers around. Florida sucks for many things...doc fees being just one of them.

Finished the purchase, pretty smooth after getting a few bids, and then over the phone numbers, pretty much held to when at the dealership - Everett, MA Honda Cars of Boston.

2009 Honda Civic EX - took a car off the lot, 4 miles, Silver (not my first choice, but I am not that picky on color - just wanted a gray interior, which it has). They had three other colors.
Cost: $18,600 (includes destination, before Tax & Title). :shades:
Edmunds lists invoice at $19,034, and Intellichoice at $18,639 - so looks like invoice is not a single number, and that makes it $400 under Edmund's invoice.

Doc fee $200, Title Fees for Transfer $80, Sales Tax of 5%.

I also got some accessories, all in all, pretty good deal overall.

I tried that spell check to get the correct spelling of "ridiculous" and it just didn't work...my bad! The '09's are few and far between down here in South Florida...they still have '08's at my dealers front lot.

    Hello,

I am in Davis, near Sacramento.
Maybe I could get 17,000+the fees. (still communicating with the dealers)

Is this a good price in this area?
Could anybody near this area share your price?

    Thank you!

    Hi,
I am a new Civic shopper in Newark, DE area. I like to know a dealer who will beat the price I have right now with me in Scott Honda who gave me OTD price of $19900 with Leather wrapped steering wheel, Chrome exhaust finisher and Splash guards. I hope the EX comes with Carpet mats.

Can some one share your experience and thoughts about this deal too.

Just received a quote from the internet department of a local Honda dealer here in Lakeland Florida for a otd price of $23,893.27 does this seem like a quote that is workable for a 2008 civic si sedan with nav. I still have 3 more dealerships yet to receive quotes from.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Post the details in the OTD number, impossible to quantify with different local taxes and dealer fees across the country.

Hi Can you tell me where you got this deal from. I am shopping for 2009 Civic EX with Manual transmission.

I guess that's very good. I got a price quote of LX M/T for 16800 incl (dest) and so calculated with that and some $200 extra accessories + Tags and tax (for DE) I would say go for it.
But can you check for an EX M/T and tell me the OTD price.
  • iluvhondas2iluvhondas2 Member Posts: 2
You might want to try contacting the internet dept at Lia Honda in Enfield they give the best prices in the springfield area.
  • djurandjuran Member Posts: 1
I received an internet quote ($16, 938) + TTL for an LX Sedan that is several hundred under Edmonds invoice amt. This quote includes destination chgs.. Should I be suspicious? Does it sound reasonable to get an offer below invoice on a Honda? (no trade-in involved).

    Thx
  • vampwangvampwang Member Posts: 10
it's ok price. 16600 is true, you can get from some big dealers like boch. smal local dealer cannot do that

Okay, normally, I know how to barter, haggle...all that stuff. However, I'm really stuck between a rock and a hard place.
My problem is I have the car picked out, and being that it is a white 2008 Civic EX-L, I'm limited to finding a bunch of dealer quotes, as only one dealer, roughly 200 miles away, actually has the car.
So, my question is, what is the best advice on getting a great price on the car along with my trade in?
I've heard it's often contacting the president (owner), the GM, or the internet manager...so they can really eliminate having to pay a commission to a sales person.
I would have to work on trying to find the internet manager's E-Mail address as it is not listed on the dealer's website. But I'm sure if I called the dealer, I could get it.

So, who should I contact? And by what means? E-Mail or phone call?

Secondly, any guesses on what I might be able to get the 2008 EX-L Civic man for?
Keep in mind, it is a manual, and has a sticker price of $20,545 which, to my understanding, already includes destination.

Thanks folks, any advice is good advice! :)

    Simple9rts,

This may go without saying, but I wouldn't give any indication to the dealer that they are the only dealer you're talking to. You lose all negotiating leverage once they know that.

My only other thought is that perhaps you should talk with other dealers. Find the best price without mentioning your color preference. Once you've found a price you're comfortable with, hit them with your color requirement and see if they can get it for you. (This will all be complicated by the fact that you're looking for an '08. What about an '09?)

This essentially is what happened when I bought my Civic. I negotiated everything online (including color). Long story short: The dealer I purchased from had to get the color I wanted from another dealership. (Granted, the other dealership was a lot close than 200 miles!)

Anyway... Hope this helps. Good luck!

I am in the market for a used Civic as a college car for my daughter. I am looking at an 2007 LX with 22K miles for $14955 from a private seller, (no sales tax). My sense is that the market may get better for buyers as the economy tanks. Does that price sound good or should I wait until after the first of the year?

I forgot to mention that I am in the Atlanta area.

    Takeittec143,

Looks like you got a good deal on the car, however when reading down the list of charges, the warranty cost seems a little steep.

If you would have purchased the Honda Care Warranty from an online dealer such as Saccucci or Bernardi Honda the cost for a plan covering 7 yrs and 80,000 miles would ONLY have been $575 with zero deductible. That would have been less than the amount you would still pay even with half of the warranty refunded. You could also purchase a plan for 8 yrs and 100,000 miles for $805.

If it were me, I would cancel the present extended warranty--they will credit your account--not give you cash back and purchase from one of the two aforementioned online providers. You can make 12 equal monthly payments if you prefer.

Please be assured I am not trying to stir up trouble, just save you a little money. I bought a Civic and a Ridgeline last year and purchased the Honda Care warranty for both of them over the internet.

    Hey Take, and all others!

I will be shopping in Portland, OR

Really? 17.5 for an 09 EX with manual? That is exactly what I am shopping for.

Local Dealer has sent me an opening price of 19.1 + DMV fee's, and that is with my "fabulos" discount I get offered thru an incentive firm I deal with.

Can someone please tell me what the real dealer invoice is on an 09 Civic EX, 2-door, with manual trans?

And what is a "fair" profit to add to that? Three percent?

And does anyone know what new incentives that Honda is going to make effective on DEC 1st?

Also, does anyone know what incentives the dealer gets for selling a car, so I can make that part of my offer?

And thx for all the other info, I have learned a lot already. TY!

What is this "customer service fee"? I've never heard of such thing in California. Is that just a mark up from the dealer?

Could anybody in Northern California share your final price?

Exactly, just gravy for the dealership .thought i would itemize everything they were charging but would never accept that charge as part of the negotiated price.

    Hi Spark,
Will do that today. What the actual site to buy one. I mean Bernardi Parts or its something else.
  • steve190steve190 Member Posts: 12
You must be reading my mind, I am in the market for the same car (Honda Civic EX, 5 speed, Rally Red) and was looking to spend the same amount 17500. I live in upstate NY (by Albany) and so far the best quote I have got is 18260 not including tax and fees but with destin. charge. If you find a dealer willing to meet your price please post it on line and I will do the same. How about it out there, anyone find any outstanding deals on Civic's now that cars are not selling too well? The lease deals on them seem pretty good but I prefer to buy instead of lease.
  • steve190steve190 Member Posts: 12
What did you pay for your EX 5 speed? Not counting tax and fees as they may different in another state.
  • takeitec143takeitec143 Member Posts: 14
I tried online @ bernardi warranty and finaly when I was about to checkout, it says if you already have a warranty from a Honda Dealer (which ofcourse I have) and then cancelling that and buying this will ad an extra charge of $135. Is there any ways get out of this without paying $135.

    Thanks in advance
  • takeitec143takeitec143 Member Posts: 14
    Hi Steve,
I paid 17500 for the car which included Splash guards and dealer didnt charge me for that. The price doesnt include dest tax n tags and accessories. EX comes with a carpet mat. I got a good Michelin All season mat from Walmart, and other accesories from near by honda dealer and installed it myself.
My advice will be first negotiate the price of the vehicle alone and check the dealer processing fee.
By all the accessories from Bernardi Parts online and u will get instruction how to install them. Buy the Warranty from Bernardi (@ bernardiwarranty.com).
If you get a price around mine u shud be fine.
  • idealbrainidealbrain Member Posts: 10
I got a quote from one of the dealers in CT for 2009 civic lx 4dr auto sedan as $16100 (including destination fee) .

There will be conveyance fee + tax + registration to get the OTD. Is that price a good \ better \ best ?
  • jwifferdilljwifferdill Member Posts: 13
That seems like a very good price on the car. I bought my EX auto sedan right when they were hitting the lots (actually pre-ordered it) and ended up paying close to 20k before TTL. I did not go with the extended warranty, however. Bernardi is a full factory warranty backed by any Honda dealership nationwide?? Those seem like unreal prices on the warranties!
  • takeitec143takeitec143 Member Posts: 14
    Hi,
Yes the Bernardi is Dealer in MA and they sells parts and accessories online for 30% discount on the original price. They also sells warranty for Honda and Acura.
I learn all these only from couple of messages ago, but I made the mistake by purchasing from the dealer now I am trying to cancel the warranty and buy from Bernardi, but the disclaimer says that "If I have already purchased a warranty from a Honda Dealer and then canceling that to buy the warranty from Bernardi I got to incur $135 extra to match the profit of Honda".

Trying to get away without paying this.

    Hi,
Can any one tell me when is it suggested first service schedule for a new 2009 Civic EX.
  • vampwangvampwang Member Posts: 10
which dealship? that is an excellent price.
  • sparklandsparkland Member Posts: 121
Sorry, I was not aware of the additional charge to cancel the original warranty and to buy the online one.

As far as service, as it states in the owners manual, a "lighted" wrench will appear on the dash with a code such as A1--that means it is time for the first oil change.

It depends on mileage and how you drive your car--but it should show up somewhere around 5,000 miles. No need to do it before the Maintenance Minder (MM) says to do it.

There is a button on the dash "select" that you can scroll through by pushing it and it will show you how much "oil life" is remaining. Most people change it around 10-20% remaining. Enjoy your car.

    Coming in late here...

A Sales Manager will just turn you over to a salesperson. These guys don't do deals themselves. Even if this were to happen you wouldn't get a better deal.

That is one oddball car you are looking for and I'm surprised you were able to find one at all.

    1. It's a leather Civic...not big sellers
    2. It's white...one of the least popular colors
    3. It's a manual. This makes it VERY hard to sell!

The dealer who has it knows all of these things and he knows you are after this oddball car. He also know you are probably pitting him against other dealers. With this in mind, it is very unlikely he would be willing to do a dealer trade to let it go.

On the other hand, he has a car that he may have been stuck with. He knows it's hard to sell.

I would drive there and try to strike a deal with that in mind.

Or, better yet, if you are more flexible on color or transmission choice you may get a better deal.

Just don't let a salesperson know you were trying to figure out a way to not pay a commission. This is how we make our living.

    Good Luck!
  • rkrigsmanrkrigsman Member Posts: 3
I just ordered the EX w/ 5 speed transmission including rear deck lid spoiler (without brake light) for $18,553 in CT. This did not include paperwork and a small destination charge and some garbage window etching for $299 which they don't tell you about and is actually printed into the contract.

I don't know if this is a good price but a few other dealers I tried wouldn't really beat it however I bet they would have matched.

Let me know if anyone has any comments about this price.
