I am planning to buy 2008 to 2010 mini cooper S for my wife. Web is full with contradictory reviews. Some are saying just stay away from it and some love it.
Edmunds is my first place for my car related information.
Could someone help me to decide ? I would really appreciate your help.

This is the second generation, turbo car (optional on the S) with an improved transmission (automatic).

Your choice all boils down to making sure you get a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Also you have to realize that repairs and maintenance will be the same as for a BMW.

Probably most of the negative reviews are from the earlier generation, and from not-so-great dealer service. It would be good if, before you buy anything, you make contact with a reputable independent repair shop that knows MINIs. This alone can save you a lot of money.

If you want the lowest risks possible with a used car out of warranty, then don't buy a German car, buy a Japanese one. But if you want a high fun factor and a very sturdy little car, a MINI might work for you.

Also be sure your wife is okay with a rather harsh ride.
