Getting value of used car - engine damage
Hello,
I am trying to get an appraisal of our Toyota which is currently inoperable due to engine damage. I have gone on a lot of sites and gone through the online forms inputting information about the car. But none of the sites I have found appraise cars that aren't running. Does anyone know a way for me to get an appraisal of my car?
Thanks!

Well what you do is pretty simple...appraise the car as if it were running, then deduct what it would cost to remove your engine and replace it with an engine with the same mileage (a used engine)---parts and labor. Or you can price out a brand new engine, but that's not quite accurate, since your car must have had some miles on it before the engine was damaged.
So just to throw out some numbers---probably a good used engine installed might cost $2500 to $3500; a new engine installed closer to $6000 by the time you're done with everything.
Another way is to figure out what it would cost a shop to rebuild your engine for you, if it is not totally destroyed. Most repair shops no longer rebuild engines, but a few still do--depending on the year make and model of your car---oh, I see it's a 2007 Camry.
Here's one place that sells used engines (I'm not recommending them--this is only to give you some ideas for research)
