If you like things simple, the manual tranny has a mechanical setup, basically a fluid filled viscous coupling. It's sealed and requires no extra maintenance. It would surely help you keep traction driving around a farm.

Is it me or are the postings on the Subaru Crew fora devoted to the WRX sedan and wagon populated by more flamers than the rest of the Subaru Crew fora combined? People whom you do not see posting to the other fora drop in and troll regularly.

As I've noted before, there must be something about this car that strikes a raw nerve in owners of both more and less expensive cars.

Ed- When main stream car magazines rate a $24k car higher than ones costing almost twice as much, you're bound to see some resentment. COY and top-ten awards also tend to make others envious. I think that we're just seeing a reflection of that in the WRX related topics.

Frank, I agree. Controversial styling and turbo lag aside, a coup all around for Subaru. Product quality that drives the marketing hype, not marketing hype that glosses over product quality.

When Stephen (baressa or somthing like that) was just casually posting in the BMW forum, he started getting attacked. Stuff like "You don't even own a BMW, what are you doing here?!"
As a whole, I believe Subaru owners are the most open-minded folks out there.

This has probably been addressed before, but, why are there two wrx wagon sections?

One is for shopping, the other for owners to discuss the car after purchase.

At least I think that's the intention. The non-shopping one is the busier thread by far, if you only wanted to follow one.

Mike, we had this problem once before and clearing my cookies fixed it and I think that is the problem this time too. It's the computer tech in me coming out :)

I think Frank, Ross, and Colin tried clearing cookies and cache (see recent Meet the Members) but had no luck. If it works for you, post your environment and results here. Colin thinks it's at the WebX end.

Hmm, the topics that I manually read up on now show up as having "New" messages in the list of Subaru Crew topics, but the subscriptions still do not work.

There's a lot of new info in the "Future Models" forum, and surprisingly few comments (other than mine).

While searching for germaine Legacy/Outback information, I have observed that the posts have deteriorated into an "Every Vehicle I've Ever Owned" contest. Perhaps that would be the appropriate thread and would allow for a suitable exchange of information related to Subaru Outbacks. Thanks for your help!

have a "Miscellaneous Ramblings" topic, which would be a catch-all for anytime we venture off topic..

that I felt bad posting my car list also, but we don't usually stray off topic that badly.
We should have done it in 'meet the members'.

I see no problem with creating another discussion that is more of a owner hang out than a strictly Subaru only discussion. Would "Subaru Crew Cafe" be appropriate?

Should "Meet the Members" be renamed "Subaru Crew Cafe?" That might suggest (encourage) more off-topic discussions that might interest Subie folks here. My only concern would there be some confusion having two topics that could(?) overlap in terms of content?

Speaking as perhaps the most flagrant "Crew" violator of off-topic discussions, I would welcome either choice.

What is the evidence we need another discussion? Every "club" here has its own culture, and the culture of Subie owners is remarkable for being 1) so supportive, with nobody trying to score points on other posters and 2) intellectually adventurous, with Bob and Juice leading sorties into exciting alien country. I like all that, which is a major reason I come here.

The argument for deciding 25 discussions are not enough and we need to add the 26th is that people come here looking for information and are frustrated because they have to wade through OT posts to find it. At some point, adding more and more distinctive discussions gets ponderous. Do we need a new area to discuss Subie owner's pets? A high-mileage Baja maintenance issue discussion? Jumping from folder to folder takes computer time, even with a cable connection.

I would have thought there was enough friendly tolerance here to support the OT, but if people coming here are irked to wade through OT posts we could try identifying the "Meet" discussion as a cafe.

Just my opinion, and I'll cheerfully support whatever arrangement folks think works best.

The whistle blows, the ref points to Bob. "Flagrant foul. Two free throws and the ball out of bounds." Remember, you'll be ejected (you haven't suggested an ejection seat that I recall) after your next one.

    Oops, off topic again...

The more I think about it, just renaming "Meet the Members" to "Subaru Cafe, " (or whatever) would do the trick. That would be a clear indicator that this is where these off-topic discussions should occur. Then any discussion that crops up somewhere else, would be urged to move it there. We've done that before with future model discussions that have cropped up elsewhere; suggesting that the discussion move to "Future Models."

Is to have a short "Read Me" document, at the beginning of the Subaru Crew folder, that outlines the types of discussions that should (or could) occur in the various topics.

With most topics it's pretty obvious, but maybe not so obvious in others... Sort of a "Rules of Fair Play," as it were, here in the Subaru Crew...

A couple of thoughts along that line:

    • "Meet the Members" (or whatever it's called) would be a catch-all for Subie and non-Subie discussions.

    • "Future Models," while still Subie oriented, is open to any discussion of any future product, by any brand. The reason being that it (could?) spark a discussion on future Subarus. Also, most of us here are car-oriented in general, so I think wide ranging discussions of other future vehicles is not out of line here.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
A "Read Me" would be helpful—not just here—but in other forums too, to help keep discussions on topic (Pickup forum comes to mind...).

That way whenever a discussion goes hopelessly off course, the moderator can refer posters to the definitions outlined in the Read Me, to get the topic back on course.

Please do not change Meet the Members. It's more of a general Subaru info forum. Also, I don't want to go to the Future Models forum and read about Dodge Rams. Maybe something that's a direct competitor to Subaru, but not apples to oranges discussions.

if you limit the "Future Models" discussion to just Subies, or to similar cars, there will be much less activity in that forum. I say any and all discussion that pertains to future products is preferable to little or no discussion at all.

    Just my $.02.

We already manage it that way ourselves, sort of. The regulars allow a lot of leeway for us to go OT.

I like Meet the Members because the title says it's about the people, the owners, not just the cars. If you follow that logic, almost nothing is off topic.

Wow, maybe even secret military tribunals and formal ex-communication for violator of on-topic rules? ;-)

Seriously, I have only been with this crew for 6 months, but enjoy it when we 'stray' a bit. Sure, it clogs the airways a bit, but I have had fun, learned a lot, and shared some. Isn't that why we are here? And also supportive of individuals in times of hardship and grief? And what's the matter about talking about our dogs, kids, significant others occasionally?

I have an interest in all things automotive. To limit 'Future Models' to only Subaru would miss the point that SOA is indeed influenced by what the competition and GM are doing. With excessive limits, the topic would dry up with time.

I do agree that we probably should have moved 'what we owned' to "Meet T M". I suppose that our moderators (members or administration) could have suggested it....

Subaru Crew works because of decent people and freedom to wander and explore. If it were only about our cars aches and pains, I probably wouldn't come here daily.

Re: editing Meet the Members title- I hesitate to do this because it is somewhat of a standard discussion in all the clubs and it also is the first place that new members are likely to check. As I mentioned before, if you want a place where you can kick back and talk about whatever, it can be provided. Subaru Crew Cafe? Subaru Crew Corner? Subaru Crew Lounge?

Re: off topic in Club discussions- The majority of people who frequent the clubs are devoted owners of a particular make/model. After participating for a time and becoming familiar with other like-minded members, it is only natural that there will be instances of off topic banter. This issue isn't enforced as strictly here as it is elsewhere in the Town Hall.

Soooo...let me know what you want or don't want for the Crew folder.

with a "Subaru Crew Cafe," per say. My only concern in creating new topic is, would it confuse people? For example, how would viewers know how the "Members" forum differs from the "Cafe" forum in terms of topic content?

That's why I think a "Read Me" document, that outlines the differences would be a good idea. I know when a new topic is created, the initial post often offers guidelines. However, once your 100 posts into the topic, nobody remembers that original post; and new folks will probably never even see that original post.

About posting the life list of cars, huh? I did but I've only had 6 so it was a short one. I actually appreciated it because it gave me a view into the thought processes of those who ended up buying Subarus.

...I meant to say that in my previous post, but was distracted at the time.

Here's what I have done. In the Meet the Members discussion, I've included a couple lines of text in the header that hopefully will clue in newbies. And I've also created a Subaru Crew Cafe discussion with a brief line about what it. Take a look...let me know what you think.

<< I've included a couple lines of text in the header that hopefully will clue in newbies >>

I'm sure there will be some content "overlap," but I think "always" having those "guidelines" at the top topic will help everyone in terms of tying to figure out as to where to post information. Thanks! :)

For some time now, we've had two "WRX wagon" topics, both from the station wagon board. Wouldn't it make sense close one, and just to have one topic?

    Bob
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
Makes sense to me, but I'll have to go to revka on that one, as she hosts the Wagons board. I'll give her a holler.

That was brought up before. One is an owners forum and one is a general info forum.

In reality, everyone posts in all forums. Sometimes there are wagon topics in sedans, sedan topics in wagons, etc.

I agree that two wagon topics aren't really needed.

    I hate it!

It seems that about 1 out of 10 times I try to select a forum, it takes Web X forever to access it. Sometimes it can't, and I get a warning message stating that it can't respond to that forum.

What's going on here? It's very frustrating!!

BTW, this is not a new problem. It's been this way for a long time.

    Bob
  • storytellerstoryteller Member Posts: 476
I had the same problem this morning, Bob. Seems to be okay now. It seems each visit to these boards is a new experience with Web X, and sometimes it really does everything it can to keep you at arm's length. It's just the software, I guess.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The whole Town Hall is much slower for me lately. Much slower - I mean it takes a full minute to load a page some times.

The non-Town Hall pages are much faster, so I think it is the Town Hall software.

    -juice
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Ditto here too. Town Hall has been noticeably slower these last few weeks.

On a different topic, is there a way we can create a list of Subaru FAQs somewhere? We keep getting a lot of repeat questions like -- what's the difference between Subaru's AT and MT AWD?

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
    Yeah I've noticed that too.

Sounds like it's time for Web X 2.0.

...and having the same issues as all of you. There is some behind the scenes work going on and hopefully it will soon mean that the Town Hall will run smoother and faster. AND, a new Search is coming....soon.

Yah...yah...I know, you've heard all that before. But it is all I've got to offer for now.

I can create a Subaru FAQ topic, if you like. Just let me know.

I forgot to add that the "honking" was something that has always been there, but was only recently enabled. The first time I heard it I thought there was something wrong with my computer. :-)
