Karen -- A Subaru FAQ topic would be great if such a thing would be possible.

The honking suprised me at first too. It then got kind of annoying after I would go to check my messages every time. I found out you can turn it off by unchecking the option to be notified when there are new messages.

Hmm, should it be a topic, though? Topics tend to get long, with thousands of posts over time. FAQs should be short and include only questions and answers.

Could you make a locked topic and just copy over pertinent posts?

Either that or I should just go ahead and get my subaru web page going and make a FAQ section.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Something like that. I don't think it should be an open discussion - those get too big, too fast. It would defeat the purpose.

And I'll stick it in my subaru section on my webpage for now.

Just make sure the FAQ has facts, and not just hearsay. ;-)

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Well it's all going to be hearsay! It's a Frequently Asked Questions, no one said the answers were right! :)

is a good idea, but I think if the answers came from Patti, or someone from SOA, or were at least approved by SOA, it would have more credibility. This would eliminate the "hearsay" factor altogether.

Also, I'm sure SOA has something like this already prepared somewhere. I'm sure they run into this all the time.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
But SOA isn't going to put the stamp of approval on a non SOA site so it will always be "and educated guess"

When I get bored one night I'll throw up info I have and take it from there.

"Crew FAQ" even rhymes. I'm sure Subaru has their own FAQ section.

put their stamp of approval on it, as they have shown to have a vested interest over here at Edmunds. It would make good sense from a business standpoint; it would further indicate their desire to be helpful to customers.

I just think if it came from the Crew: A) the credibility would be limited, and B) we might not be posting 100% accurate information.

If the Crew does this, all answers to questions should be verified by SOA, for accuracy. Otherwise, it's a bad idea, IMO.

I checked and they do have an FAQ section at subaru.com, just one click from their home page. I don't see how ours would be any different (i.e. not redundant).

Edmunds and SOA could put a (direct) link to the SOA FAQ site, so it would be more easily accessible to people who visit Edmunds with Subie questions. Yo, Patti, what do you think?

I've been puzzling how to solve this, but all my ideas have major drawbacks. (So? What else is new?) But I can add a link to the Subaru FAQ in the sidebar at the top folder level...or in all the discussions, for that matter. Post the URL here and tell me where you want it to go.

Can you post it somewhere where it can readily and easily be seen by Subie newbies? Perhaps under the Subaru Chat button, on the Subaru Crew page?

Hmmm... Maybe we should have a topic called "Subie Newbies," and the FAQ link could be the first item there??

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think we might end up with too many topics. Newbies should just go to Subaru Crew - MTM and introduce themselves. Whenever I see a newbie, I ask them over to introduce themselves.

    FAQ link is:

I see that people are posting Subaru topics in the Cafe forum even though that is supposed to be an OT forum. :-p

    -Dennis

is all inclusive. Anything goes, so you will see some Subie items there too.

the SOA FAQ link could appear at the top of the Meet the Members forum, each time you log on?

That way it will be readily available to all, any time. To me, that makes the most sense.

I've put the SOA FAQ link in Meet the Members under "Helpful Links" in the sidebar.

    Is this okay for all?

Could it also be added to the "Helpful Links" on the "Subaru Crew" page? Or, should it only be on the "Helpful Links" on the Subaru Crew page?

I was lamenting the slowness on the TH "News and Views" board. A host replied that Edmunds is currently straddling two ISPs and has all sorts of complicated communication issues. This is being resolved and wel will see TH speed up to the rest of the site soon.

It's about as slow and sluggish as I've ever seen it!!! Talk about frustrating...

I would say love is more the word, out here in Texas Subie owners are hard to come by so this is a great chance to relieve some of the SCB (Subaru Compulsive Behavior) I have been learning about!

My best freind and I purchases a black and white Subaru Forester a week apart a couple of months ago. We are both professional photographers and are trying to combine two loves by creating a page simply to let people show off their Subarus. If anybody is interested please let me know, we are really intereseted in pics of Subies getting rowdy out in the elements. www.forester.b0x.com

Both of us are originally from the DFW area and now both live within the Dallas city limits. Not most ideal place to go crazy with a forester, but perfect for our photography needs, and fun none-the-less
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
esnedden: e-mail me and I'll dig up some pics of my Forester on the beach, and in the Pine Barrens.

    It's in my profile.

Yesterday I test drove an 03 Forester XS and an 02 Legacy L. Had fun chatting up the salesman, a guy with 7 years of experience selling Subarus. Most of what he said was obvious. I was interested by his comment that buyers for his other two lines, Isuzu or Acura, might come in and buy a car on the spot. "Subaru buyers almost NEVER buy the first time in," he said. "If it was another car line I'd worry that they wouldn't be back, but Subaru buyers come in, drive the car, and then go away. I almost never sell a Subaru the first time I see a customer. They have to think it over." He said he doesn't dare get pushy with Subie buyers, although he likes to stay close to them and "nudge" a little with carefully selected comments. He's willing to be more patient with Subie buyers than he would be otherwise because satisfied Subie owners go out and send him customers.

.....a lasting relationship. Not puppy love, not impulsive love, but the kind that you grow into.

It's a mature relationship - solid, well-thought-out. Once you've made the leap, you go to bed at night and you KNOW your 4-wheeled partner will still be there for you in the morning, no matter what the weather.

Took me 3 dealerships and 5 test drives before I made the leap. I drove the Forester, Legacy and Outback before I could decide. And looked at the Outback Sport.

Also committed for many, many miles.

Well, I'm going to have to do another test drive myself. I've been sure I wanted a Forester for almost half a year. But almost as an afterthought I drove a Legacy, and now my problem is that I want one of each. Gonna have to go back for more test drives.

    Steve
  • cynthiagcynthiag Member Posts: 63
Well, it IS hard to decide! I'd say do as many test drives as you need to to choose. Better to get the right car than not and have regrets!

My first drive in the Outback, I wasn't sure at all that I wanted that model, it was the second drive, where the dealer let me take it out for a while that decided me. I did some tight U-turns, took it around in town a tad, then took it on the freeway. While on the freeway, I got this incredibly happy feeling and that's when I knew it was the Outback for me.

If you can, do back to back drives of the models you are considering, I found that helpful!

seems to make the "Owners Clubs" obsolete, or redundant, at best...

I just select "All" to see all the Subaru forums.

    Bob
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
I can't get the the menu to show me all the old Crew posts. I get the non-model specific ones, but the model-specific ones lumped by themselves, e.g., Forester with "Forester v. CR-V" thread. Frustrating.

Missed chat as power went out here 8:45pm and stayed out until about 1:00am. Haven't noticed alarm doing its thing last night and this morning.

Have you looked at Get Started in the New Town Hall? This will explain how to look at the new format through searching, browsing, or the "old way".

Now that Edmunds has updated their site, how is everybody viewing these boards?

I have "All" the Subaru threads showing, and no longer use the "Owners Club." Anybody else doing the same?

the Message Center, though I believe I have all of the subaru topics that were under the owner's club 'subscribed'.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I also use the Message Center, so I haven't noticed a difference. In fact I usually even just use the Read Subscriptions button and dive right in to save time.

ought to check out the "All" format. I bet there are a lot of Subie threads that you all may not even be aware of. There are some useless ones too, however.
