iluvmysephia1"> We're talking payments of a titch under $300 a month, driver.
Go back to the post above where I detail it all out.
OK, looking at the numbers again iluv:
isell - my Kia should bring $3,500 or so. I won't go below $3,500...ehh...maybe a couple hundred lower, but that's about it. I am comfortable with the loan numbers with $3,500 tacked on to the car's price of $14,496. The total out the door price would be $17,996 since Montana has no sales tax. $17,996 divided by 60 payments = $299.93. The Soul's payment is $256.03 a month. So you guys can see what I'm looking at here. I'm down wid it totally. We owe $7,101.37 on the Soul still.
Well, as has been said, you won't get 0% financing on the $3500. Like isell said, I don't even know if they would sell you the car with that outstanding balance.
OTOH, a $299 a month payment to drive a new car and pay it off isn't unreasonable. It is very risky, but doable in my opinion. Personally, I'd like to see the Soul paid down more, probation over, wife on side.......but, not as crazy as it sounds......except payment will be well over $300 a month.
this whole discussion reminds me of another one of my rules of thumb. the rule of 5. Which is, you should never owe money on a car for more than a combined 5 years (age + years). so a new car, can borrow for 5. 2 years old, 3 year loan max. and 5 YO, no loan. Follow this, and you pretty much can't get in over your head, and should never be well underwater.
I was trying to be helpful and honest based on my CAR SELLING AND FINANCING experience, not my car “buying” experience. No need to rake me over the coals - that was uncalled for.
And I don’t buy new cars every 4 months - once a year, perhaps, but not every change of season.
So was that 2 purchases in 2017? A year with an asterisk right?

Like Iluv, I have the new car fever, but work is sucking the life out of me. To try a car related analogy, we have a client with 50 cars and 48 won't start. Another client has 30 of their 50 that won't start too. I'm tasked with finding out why, although someone else will do the actual fix. Next level up management tells me to drop what I am working on to figure out why another client has a floor mat out of line. They promised all perfect mat placement without telling anyone. I had fixed previously reported the driver's mat issue, but now I need to fix the placement of some other not specified mat, so it's my fault for not checking them all. My boss, who had the day off even called on my personal phone to make sure I was ok, as we both felt I was being beat up for things that I had originally nothing to do with. Sorry for the rant.

driver100 - the payment may come out to $315. And I could live with that. Easily. Nothing in my plan is out of touch with reality. I will just point my 2011 Kia Soul west on I-90 and come home if they don't play nicely. Not playing nicely would be charging 9% or 10% interest on the loan. I have a great FICO score, Mrs. iluv will NEVER be on board with this pup. Never.
And I am waiting until I pass my Hospital's 90-day probationary period before I drive east 500+ miles to go deal for this 2017 Toyota Yaris iA 6-speed Pulse automobile. I fully am on board that I need to wait for the 90-day probation period to end.
Now let's rock, gentlemen. The only thing left to research on my quest to get this car is when Toyota will launch their end-of-the-year 2017 clearance stipulations. I would think that they would pull out the stops on this.

Dino, in case Marco wasn't clear, he uses one of those speech to writing translation units that blind people use. The unit does a pretty good job but it is not perfect.
That is a much better excuse than the "Canadian spelling" excuse that driver uses!!

Marco...you are an inspiration and I love your spirit and knowledge as well as enthusiasm for cars. A 61 T-Bird is one of my dream cars. I love having you with us. I admire people who stay positive.
We have two friends who are in wheel chairs. Nothing stops them....they meet us for dinners, they drive and fly back and forth from Florida to Ontario, he has done volunteer work in Africa and other countries. They maintain 3 homes. He has been in a wheelchair since a child, became a successful insurance adviser, she has been in a wheelchair when an operation went wrong when she was in university...she became a doctor. They adopted two kids and raised them. And, some people say I can't find a job, or life doesn't give me a break, so why even try......these people did it with so much to overcome.
Explorer. I was canned from my main job, which was a job I loved, lots of freedom and friendly atmosphere + expense account, company car etc. I went to work right away for a customer. The first day was awful, punch a clock at 8 a.m., run out and buy food from the garbage food truck, have lunch when a bell rings.
I came home on the first day and I was ready to end it all....I was exhausted and depressed.
My father always came out with some very wise words that I relied on many times in my life. He said,
"If your job was that enjoyable, they wouldn't bother to pay you" Those words got me through many times.

abacomike, man.. don't feel like you have ta justify your purchases. I consider you an online friend. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Sometimes we say things that anger people that we didn't really mean to say. It's none of my business how often you trade in your cars, nor is it anyone else's business. I'm just glad that you love cars so much and that you enjoy them.

Speaking about all the ads on these forum sites, I used to be able to read and post easily on my iPhone, up until this morning. I opened the site on my iPhone 7+ and now it is so small in order to fit all the ads in the frame, I would need a magnifying glass to read posts or even read what I am typing in the comments section. I can no longer use my iPhone. I tried zooming in, but that made it worse. I tried increasing the size of the font, but that didn't work. Even on my PC, where I am now typing this, everything is tiny and hard to read. So they must have done something to make it so small and illegible.

Wouldn't we all love to have a 1st or especially a 2nd generation Corvette. I wish I had that 1967 Stingray that was stolen overnight when I lived in Chicago. What a vehicle.
When I look at the Edmunds True Market Value Pricing I see a line that says "Customer Cash Adjusted True Market Value". What is that exactly? Is that the price I should pay if I am paying with cash rather than getting a car loan?

iluv....we went to play pickleball this morning and I did some serious thinking about your iA or whatever it is...maybe A1 or is that the steak sauce. Anyway, I think you have a point, if you can get a new car for $75 a month more, I think it is worth considering....after probation. I don't normally think someone should by a new car when they owe so much on their current car, but, we are talking $20 a week more, to drive a new car with no problems for at least 3 years.....probably longer. You are getting reliability plus the latest safety features. At 100000 miles, the Should could run into costly repairs.
I never thought I would say it would be good to buy a car when you still owe on the current one, but, I think the low price of $15000 makes it all within range.
One of our excellent employees started his own computer business, after my S-I-L ran the company into the ground. He had a 2002 Honda Civic that was pretty good, but would need repairs. He called me in a panic that someone ran into him and his car was a write off. Insurance company gave him $4000 for the old Civic. I said to consider leasing. Take the $4000, it will buy you a year of leasing, by then your business will get built up and you can make the payments from earnings. It gets him into a new reliable car and it will last him for 10 or more years. It is coming up to 3 years so I asked him if he was going to buy back the Honda Fit he bought. He has 6000 miles on it - after almost 3 years, and the buy back is $9000. He is definitely going to buy it back.
He loves the Fit because it has heated seats and air conditioning, which his last car didn't have....plus Bluetooth. He's a techie guy so he thinks the Fit is perfect for his image.
I think there are times when leasing works, and when buying a new car makes sense.
