btw....I copied the whole article about Canadian Lemon Law because of how badly Chrysler does......number of cars going to arbitration is way out of proportion and the number of cars that had to be bought back is huge. I like Jeeps but I don't think I would risk buying any Chryco car....odds aren't good!
And in other news, the world is round and sewer flows downhill.

Just came back from my outing with my Mustang buddy and what a great time I had. We got his car up on the lift and I got to inspect his exhaust system. Now I know what to do on mine.
Got the headlights replaced on my Mark VIII because mine were getting pretty cloudy. It was to the point I had to drive with high beams all the time. My son's car scrapper friend just showed up with another Mark VIII on the hook and let me pull off what I wanted. Paid my mechanic friend whose garage we were in a few bucks to install them.
The highlight of the day was when we pulled into his shop and saw this:
You'd have to like the color, but I agree with others here. 40K for that car is a screaming bargain. It's probably already overpriced by a few thousand, but that's wiped out by the fire sale price.

With that size engine and that 6-speed transmission, I have to assume it is a RWD vehicle. What I'd worry about is the integrity of the body and it's road hugging ability. What's the suspension like? Tires and wheel specs? Lots of questions for a 4-door sedan.
I admit that the first time I saw one of those I thought it was a Malibu. Never see any ads for them. 6.2L must make it move. Better vision than a Camaro.
Isn't this the Holden equivalent of the Malibu? I recall seeing one at a hopped-up techie type local cruise in on the other side of town. They had a Malibu and the SS parked side-by-side. Very similar.
I spoke too soon. The review sounds OK so far. No real road test, but fully equipped, 415 hp, not bad looking, not too far out styling....for low $40ks....sounds good so far.

No, this is a RWD platform. I think it is the same chassis as the Pontiac G8 and the Caprice police car, but I dunno for sure since they aren't sold up here.
It is a Holden made in Australia.......2017 is last chance to get a Chevy V8. Reviews are pretty good but not great, high depreciation. Nicely packaged and all, but, I think it won't be a highly prized car in a few years time.
We looked at them last fall. It's a loaded vehicle, but I wasn't willing to pay 1k under MSRP. These may be the same cars I looked at back then. Ended up buying the Fusion, which is a good car, although engine is less the 1/4 the size of the engine in the SS.

Wonder what the reviews are like? I almost never see them, just in ads in the newspaper. It is like Chevy's greatest secret.
Not sure about "greatest secret" driver - $10,000+ off MSRP and I, too, have never seen one. Orange would be a great color with the black interior. You can order any color interior you want, "...so long as it's black!" Car is very intriguing!!!

I was just reading a Best Buy flyer when this fine print for a smartphone caught my eye. 'We will fix or replace it." Not sure if the ad was referring to their Geek Squad warranty or the original manufacturer product warranty.
Assuming a timely claim is filed within the wsrranty period, who really pays the claim in such situations? And how is that different from a car dealer? Doesn't the dealer warrant his product?
A man checked into a hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send a mail to his wife. he accidentally typed the wrong email address, and without realizing he sent the mail to a widow who has just returned from her husband's funeral.
The widow decided to check her mail, expecting condolence messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message she fainted. The son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor and saw the computer screen which read:
'to my loving wife, i know you are surprised to hear from me, they have computers here and we are allowed to send mails to loved ones. I 've just been checked in. How are you and the kids? The place is really nice but am lonely here. I have made necessary arrangement for your arrival tomorrow. Expecting you darling. I can't wait to see you.

It is an interesting car, and at $40k it is a bargain, but, I would rather spring for a bit more and get something I would be more confident in. After hearing about GGs dilemma (or dilemna) I am staying away from the unusual and unproven. Warranties don't mean a whole lot, and going through the lemon process ain't easy. I'll stick with the less risky choices..
The Chevy SS might not depreciate like you think. 2016s with under 10k are $38k at the block and 2015s with 24-30k are $32k.
So figure $34-$35k retail on a 2-yr-old model. Makes that $40k 2017 look all that much better.
I'd wager it is probably pretty reliable given at least the engine is an old tried and true. I don't believe that has the magnetic ride, which is a shame. It is a pretty big and heavy car. At least 5-series size, if not larger.

When I went to bed last night my weather station said it was -2F outside. Ridiculous for this time of year. We are supposed to get that snow on Wednesday, but last night they started hedging their bets by saying it might turn to rain for us.

It is as big as a 5er and it is classified as a large car. Most reviews are kind, I think this one is very realistic: Part of it (I know it is a lot for JM to try to read in one sitting)
They updated the Chevrolet SS for 2016. Maybe you missed it. Maybe you missed that the SS exists at all—the car sells in microscopic numbers, with a blueprint that few people want these days: naturally aspirated V-8, rear-wheel-drive, an available manual transmission. The model is the namesake for Chevrolet's current NASCAR stocker. These days, that means nothing save that the race car was purposely given cosmetic cues that recall those of the street car. The street car, in turn, got a decent marketing push from the most popular form of motorsport in America.
Maybe that push helped sales in a nontrivial fashion. Maybe the moon will fall into the sun tomorrow and we'll all turn into three-eyed fish. These things are equally likely, but it doesn't matter, because the SS seems to exist apart from logic. It will pull a whopping 0.97 g on a skidpad and rip to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. It produces an EPA-certified 15 miles per gallon in city driving, less if you're being rude. It has Delphi magnetorheological shocks as standard, technology shared with Ferraris and the odd Corvette. And it is everything we don't need right now, at least in terms of carbon output and automated solutions to the traffic problem.
Even we got some snow, wet and messy. It will probably melt this afternoon, temp is right at 32 and will warm later.
Looks like a couple of bears got into your yard.
We're getting forecasts for 6-10 inches because the storm is tracking more eastward. A little more to the east and Boston will get it all and Nova Scotia will get all snow.

SS, from the review by RT "No, the SS lives because General Motors wants a $47,000, 415-hp, five-passenger sedan in showrooms. And that's fine with us, because we like the car. It's involving and fast and goofy and relatively simple, and the industry generally doesn't do frivolous things any more. It's also old-school as hell, which means we get to go off on comparison-test tangents like this. (Spoiler: The car is basically a modern-day BMW E39 M5.)"
SS related.....a work colleague has one. I've not driven it, only riden in it. It's a hoot. Hard to argue the fun factor. The real question is, can you live with it as a daily driver? My colleague says somedays he wishes the car would just "settle down".
Suydam.....a parishioner at my church just let me do a brief drive in his new Volt. Impressive. It quietly leaps off the line. Pretty comfy. Has all the features, so assuming it's the same trim as yours. Not sure of the MSRP, but he said he cut a good deal as it was listed as a "yellow tag" (not sure what that is, either).
Not sure what it's like on the highway, but the brief side street drive I did tells me it would be a good "in-town" car. He's had it a month and said he's yet to hit the gas station. He's charging it with the standard outlet in his garage.
That's an interesting take on a review, where it says next to nothing about the car itself or how it drives in the real world.
Most reviews liked the SS quite a bit....this review was more of the guys impressions, and they struck a chord with me. Australian made, V8 engine, naturally aspirated, 14 mpg, sells in tiny numbers, what could possibly go wrong?
They are sisters, about 3 1/2 years old, first generation Golden Doodles. The mom is a standard poodle parti and the dad a golden retriever. Wonderful dogs!
Yes, great dogs. We have a Poodle/Yorkie mix. She is 8 years old and smarter than me. Yeah, I know, low bar.

Sounds good! I hope you take the time to tell us more details over here on C&C. I love the buying experience with the CPO C250. Getting a car with about one years mileage for 30 to 35% off the original price....just nicely broken in. Suburu's are great cars....but, the Q40 is going to be "special".
The beauty of cars like the Volt vs. Tesla is no range anxiety
Absolutely. I like the Volt so much that I've been toying with the idea of getting a Bolt somewhere down the line. Then I read a blog of someone who took her Bolt on a road trip. Even in California there just isn't enough charging infrastructure to make that work well. The Volt is great as a roadtripper even when you start using the gas engine. Plenty of power and you get hybrid FE. @nyccarguy , congrats on your soon-to-be purchase! I look forward to hearing about it more once it's in your garage. Is it AWD?
I was trying to locate the Fuccillo ad where the disclaimers are read at 400 words per minute but couldn't get it online. Did read about this lawsuit that was settled for $1.6 million. Briefly:
Billy Fuccillo's auto business and 18 of its Upstate dealerships have agreed to a $1.6 million court settlement involving the sale of theft-protection packages, which were marketed prior to 2008.
Some 5,320 car buyers who bought the $295 theft-protection package from Fuccillo dealerships - including Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse -- are entitled to payments of $160 each, according to a settlement approved in November by U.S. District Judge Lawrence Kahn in Albany.
Cars came with the $295 theft-protection package, which included two components: The car's vehicle identification number was etched into the window; and the buyer was entitled to a 10 percent discount toward the purchase of a new car, or $2,000, if the Elantra was stolen and not recovered.
The class-action suit claimed that the theft-protection package was an illegal insurance policy, because it was administered by a company that was not a licensed insurer, Universal Automotive Services, of New Jersey.
The lawsuit also claimed that the theft-deterrent value of the service was exaggerated and over-priced, because the cost of etching the VIN into the window was only $20 to $50. New cars by law already have VINs installed in 18 locations on the vehicle, according to the lawsuit.
According to court papers, the Auto Theft Security Discount was sold to roughly 16,200 customers, who were notified in August about the settlement. Of those, 5,320 submitted claim forms by the Oct. 31 deadline and will be paid, court records show.
