I am not sure of the website. (Do a search on Google) I did all my dealing over the telephone. I didn't even give a deposit. They kept their word, as I did mine. My salesman was Charlie Ham. I only wish I was closer so that I could give them my business when I get my car serviced. (Although in all fairness the service department at the BMW center is San Antonio has been good. It is their sales department that is lacking.)

Ask for a copy of the purchase order, production number, and VIR. With those, you can be sure you're getting what you're asking for.
  • jasonkureejiijasonkureejii Member Posts: 210
I got a copy of the purchase order and production number, but the VIN is empty on purchase order. He has the agreement we settled with on the purchse request, too...

I was the one who posted earlier about them. SO far I have had no problems with them. I did not try to haggle on the price, I wanted a fully loaded 330Cic and did not want to haggle over one or two months payments in the long run(No flames to any hagglers, just not worth my time to haggle over 1%-2%). I had my aux fan die on me and droped my car off 5 minutes before close on a friday night. They stayed extra to give me a loaner and take my car in. I expected it monday because they are closed on Sun, so i was plesantly surprised when at 2pm on Sat they called and said my car was ready.
During my order process my salesman called me periodically to left me know how my car was oding even though I was tracking it. He even returned all my calls, not right away but faithfully. I too get thank you notes from him and another salesman who helped me...my salesman even sent me a delicious creme cake...yummy!
A last thing to point out is where you take your car for service, if you buy at the same dealer they will give you a loaner, if not, you will not get a loaner.

I was the first one in my area to get the 330. When I found out that there was going to be a new model back in March 00 and after test driving the 323 and knowing it would be to slow for me I was the first on the list. I am very happy that I waited until mid July 00 to get the car. When I saw it for the first time at the dealership I knew right away that this car was going to kick total [non-permissible content removed]. I got the Lt. yellow met. 330 conv. sp/pp/HK. I put clears all around with silvervision bulbs and that makes a big difference. Also, I recommend getting the windscreen. WOW!! That really nocks the wind down and I have eliminated the "Its too windy" wife rattle. Very happy. JP

Yeah, about loaners, does every dealership do that??? I mean, if you don't buy the damn car from them, you shouldn't expect any "customer incentives" at all if you go to them for service and such??? The last thing I need is attitude when I bring my car in for anything....hopefully, that will not be so...WHO here is residing in DALLAS, anyways??? I'd just like some input on this...who should I go to and who should I NOT go to for service...I think Classic and John Roberts are really only the two conveniently nearby...

    Jason,

I purchased my car in Bryan and I have had it serviced in San Antonio.

The sales people in San Antonio flat out told me not to expect any special service here when I didn't purchase from them. I guess that was their idea of a threat. Well, the sales departments and service departments are totally separate.

I have had excellent service at the SA dealership. I have not needed a loaner, but I have been told as long as I make an appointment for one, it will be provided. If loaners are not available they do have that lovely shuttle van that will drop you off (where you would like) and will pick you up when your car is ready. I really can't complain about that.

Remember, when you get service, BMWNA will be calling asking about your service. It is the service department's goal to receive those "excellent" ratings. If they treat you inferior because you didn't buy your car from them, they'll get screwed. ;o)

    Hope this helps...

Makes sense...the service dpt. should care less as to what the sales people say, I mean, they're getting paid to service the car right and don't need the hassles of negative feedback for poor maintenance, I guess. I guess I just like how Lexus treats their consumers overall, but don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that I went with the 325i over the IS/ES300 I was also considering...

I bought my bimmer in the LA area and I live in the Bay Area (5 hours N.) and was very concerned about possible "service rejection". I was told not to fear, that each service dept had their own set of service rules and pricing and some don't even give loaners to their customers who did buy off them. Some will lease a car for you and some will not. I was told to call around and inquire at each dealership but no matter what, I would never be turned away by any BMW dealership for service or feel slighted because I didn't purchase my car from them. I haven't had my car in for service but when it's needed, I'll call all the BMW service depts and see who has loaners and more important...inquire about who doesn't require you make an appointment 3 months in advance! I also have a Mitsubishi Montero and I did not buy it from the dealer who services it. They've provided me with a rental car every time it's needed service, (not basic routine stuff like oil changes) but for all else. It isn't something they advertise to their customers, but if you ask...you shall receive. Service departments are very competitive.
  • aaa330iaaa330i Member Posts: 63
Unless they're the only game in town. In Austin, John Roberts service department doesn't give loaners to anyone except to people who buy from then (which is actually reasonable, I suppose), but I've heard from people that they're also rude to BMW owners who bring their car in from service who didn't buy from them.

I haven't experienced this personally, so I could be way off base.

Some dong put a doozy of a ding in my car yesterday and really ruined my day. But today, things are far brighter. :-). Found a recommendation from the bimmer.org archive ('99, back when it was civil ;-), and took the car in to one of 3 DentPros in my neck of the woods. They did an EXCELLENT job!! Said BMWs and Mercedes are the best to work with because they make the best paint finishes. This sharp deep ding took 40 minutes (including wait time for others in front of me) and cost an almighty $63.00!! They charge $79.00 with a 20% discount if you're an AAA member. I'm impressed and so is my wallet! :-). Oh, second dings are half price if repaired at the same time. You might wanna BOOKMARK THIS PAGE for future reference on a DentPro near you. :-)

I took delivery of my new 530i on 5/19/01 after waiting since March. Now I can say it was truly worth the wait! I was able to drive it 130 freeway miles the first day... what a thrill!
It is titanium silver with the premium sport package, xenon lights, rear sunshade(love to watch that go up!),and black leather. Looking forward to many thrilling miles!

Do I understand your post correctly that you bought your car from John Roberts of Dallas and that you brought it back to them recently because the aux fan died?

I've been wicked worried about this whole auxiliary fan issue so I specifically asked my sales person at John Roberts of Dallas to look into it before I took delivery of 330i from them 2 days ago. When I picked it up, she said she'd talked to the service manager and that they hadn't heard of any problems whatsoever with auxiliary fans in the 3 series.

Do you know who the service manager was who got your car fixed?

    Thanks for any info.
  • aaa330iaaa330i Member Posts: 63
While I didn't buy my bimmer from John Roberts of Austin, the salesman there that I was dealing with WAS quite aware of the aux fan problem. I think your saleman was giving you a line of bs.
  • newbloodnewblood Member Posts: 8
Where the heck have you been? I lost your email address! Hope everything is well with you. We have got to get together soon and swing those golf clubs... email me.

So, I see that you've finally given in to those clears, huh? Told you they would look bad azz! One more step and picked up the silvervisions too? I'm impressed! Later, Ken
  • jeffxjetjeffxjet Member Posts: 8
Yes my aux fan died about two weeks ago and I had it serviced at John Roberts...my service manager's name was Sharon, I think. I dropped it off 5 min. before closing, handed them my keys and left with a loaner because they were all leaving. They called the next day to say it was fixed and I picked it up so I don't really know who the sevrvice manager was. Nvrmd, I just checked my work order...it was Sharon Moon. I don't know what to tell you about the saleperson but the aux fan issue has been well documented by 3 series drivers at the least, and I'm sure at BMWNA as well. You're salesperson probably never asked around.

Jeff, Thanks for the info. I appreciate your checking it for me. I'll discuss this all with the sales person when I go pick up the license plate this week.

I just figured out how to adjust what position your right side mirror goes to when you put the car in reverse, anyone care about knowing this?
    Jeff
  • newbloodnewblood Member Posts: 8
Adjust it while the car is in reverse?
  • jeffxjetjeffxjet Member Posts: 8
Now how come you culdn't tell me that when I needed to adjust it:) After dropping my car off to have the fan replaced my mirror did not work as advertised, to make a long story short, my buddy suggested I adjust the mirror with the thumb control while the car is in reverse and that's all there is.
    Jeff
  • newbloodnewblood Member Posts: 8
cool! I never use my the 'adjustable' reverse passenger side because it points too low to see anything.. I'll change mine today... Thanks for the tip!

I got my new BMW 530i in March after waiting since December. I first test drove the 330i and loved it, but I take my family on trips sometimes and the 530i offers more comfort in the back seat.

I also test drove the 525i and really liked it, but when I drove the 530i, I was really hooked. I had a really cool salesman who let me take it out on my own for as long as I wanted. I took it on the Merritt Parkway, a nice curvy hilly road in Connecticut and really opened it up. After that, I knew I wanted to buy one.

So far, I love it. I got the navigation system, upgraded interior, CD changer in the trunk for up to 6 CDs, heated seats, moonroof, etc. Most of the extras. It is great fun to drive. I took it up to Vermont for a ski weekend when it was snowing, and had no problems at all. I was a little concerned about the snow, since I had gotten used to front wheel drive cars, but it was fine. I have also taken it on a trip to Washington DC. The navigation system came in handy there when we were driving around looking for things. It was dead-on accurate in helping us find stuff like the various memorials, our hotel, etc.

I've actually had people stop me to tell me what a nice car it is. Everybody notices. The dealer, BMW of Darien, was also excellent. I would definitely recommend them.

    Where is everyone?
Great days this week thus far in New England...spontaneous positive comments from other drivers while stopped in city traffic (strangers and others). Am gonna need to be using Lexol soon, though; sand interior is taking a beating from the great outdoors. I'm also thinking that it may be time to have the top treated. They say this is supposed to be done twice a year? Is there any way to know it needs to be done or do you just get it done, like an oil change? Or do it yourself? Any advice much appreciated.

I looked at a 1992 BMW 325I today with 71K miles. Body and Interior in excellent condition. What should I be willing to pay for this car and what, mechanically, should I be looking for? Thanks

Well after lurking around the board for allmost 3 years, i thought id introduce myself, i first learned of the carsdirect.com on here and took delivery through Moritz in Arlington in June of 1999.

323i Sport Silver/Grey Leather in-dash cd, moonroof, auto family members and traffic forced it at the time.

If you Tx posters get a ride together let me know in advance i usually have to work weekends.

    Later,

The independent dealer will give me a three year, unlimited mile warranty on all major problems with the vehicle for $1300.00, which he will include in his asking price of $15,300.00 (and I think he will come down a bit on the price). The car looks clean, even without having been detailed, is black, has 85K miles on it, vinyl seats, power windows. I don't have the service records on it, but I do trust the dealer, who got it back from a woman he sold to three years ago so she could get a 5 or 7 series. I'm bringing it to my mechanic tomorrow. By the way, I have driven two Toyota Corollas (a '90 and a '95) for the past eleven years, with no major problems. Should I take the plunge???
    Thanks,
    Buster

For me the 318 was just a little too under powered. 130 stock hp is not enough for that heavy of a vehicle. A 318ti might be a better choice, but if you need 4 doors, then you might want to step up to a 323 or 325.

    HI,
LOVE READING ALL THE COMMENTS ABOUT OUR "GREAT PAST TIME" [OWNING/DRIVING THE BEST CARS ON PLANET].

LAST SUMMER BOUGHT MY FIRST BIMMER. A 1999 328 5 P. MANUAL BLACK EX. BEIGE LEATHER INSIDE. CD/ TEAL GOODIES. LOOKING DOWN THE ROAD FOR A PERHAPS BETTER WINTER RIDE IN SNOWY DETROIT CITY. NOT SURE IF 330X OR GO WITH 530 AND SNOWS. OR PERHAPS PUT SNOWS ON MY 328. A LITTLE CONCERNED WITH ROUGH RIDE DURING NO SNOW DAYS IN WINTER. DO SNOWS ON ALL FOURS REALLY WORK WELL? ANY THOUGHTS EXPERIENCES WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

After contributing actively on the 3-series board for 4 months, I thought I'd introduce myself here. I took delivery of my car on May 4, 2001 from BMW Peabody:

325i, Orient Blue/black 'ette, SP, moonroof, xenons, heated seats, on-board computer, CD, HK

I've always wanted a 3-series for its handling, fun to drive, and practicality. The 325 was the right model at the right price.

    Welcome gentlemen!
I know of these two fine examples of BMW manhood from their many contributions to the 3 series sedan board and they are a big part of the reason why it is the most active board on the Edmunds Sedans list week in and week out.
I came here on the promise of "as much grog as a man can drink" and "nude pics of Britney Spears".
Apparently the beer is "in the post as we speak" but Britney has a headache. One out of two ain't bad!
Owners Club-hey...a forum where we don't have to talk about build and ship dates-we went through the wait. Don't have to debate discounts from MSRP-who gives a rat's bum what you paid-you have the car and whatever you paid it's worth it!
Does anyone have two cents they can chip in? Or is everyone driving? (if so -carry on!)
The board has never really taken off (sniff)....
Should I invite Acculex over? (rhetorical)

Wanted to introduce myself. I've got a 330i, Titanium Silver, 5-spd (why is it only 5-spd?), Black interior, PP, & SP. Had it since March, put 6,000 miles on it, and love every minute of it. Just wish I was a better driver to take full advantage of it.

My name is Tina, I live in NJ, and after 12,000, wind-tousled miles, I'm still in love with my Topaz Blue '00 2.3. It never fails to draw looks (mostly admiring) and going home, top down on a nice day is a great way to forget the office!
  • steverisitysteverisity Member Posts: 39
I have the same car as Tina, Y2K 2.3, Blue Topaz with the Blue Topaz leather seats.
I bought it in February of 2000 after selling dot.com stock. All my friends said to lease it and let my money ride. Fortunately I paid cash and am definitely enjoying the ride.

I still gave back alot of money to the stock market, but I'm thankful to have walked away with my Z3.

Years ago I had a use Alfa Romeo Spyder Veloce, which was fun, but ratled and dripped oil everywhere. The Z3 is so tight and not one problem as of yet.

Got a steel blue 325i/sand 'ette/step/cd. Had the car three weeks-330 miles so far. The car is awesome. Coming from a Volvo V70, this thing flies.

I was so close to getting an SUV (kid schlepper). Drove the Bimmer on a whim. Was immediately hooked. Drove off with the car the next day (apologies to those who are still waiting).

I have a '97 1.9L which I bought used (sorry, certified pre-owned) in February. It's basically my toy, and my reward for moving out to California. So far, I've been enjoying it greatly.

It must have been the peer pressure at work, but my office mate bought pretty much the identical car. ('98 2.8 Atlanta Blue)

Last month I finally received my 2001 325i from the dealer. Unfortunately, it also had to be one of the ones with the recall on the fan/thermostat. :(

    Should get it back today/tomorrow.
