I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan, can the computer test my distributor?

I went to a mechanic he tested for spark, none then pluged in a little computer and then told me my distributor is bad. Is it that easy to test now? My symptoms, I got in the van in the am, drove 20ft a stalled. It cranks never starts. Please help!

    He might have meant that the crank positioning sensor in the distributor is bad--I suppose he can test this with an LED light, although an oscilloscope is best. No spark can come from any number of faults.
