Nissan Maxima rough idle

I have a rough idle when in park and when I put it in gear it gets worse I changed my spark plugs I replaced a broken ignition coil and checked my maf. what could it be?

    have you checked for a vacuum leak somewhere? On a car this old, vacuum lines can crack and/or come loose.

    Your idle speed can actually be adjusted on this car.

    Also the Idle Air Control Valve is suspect, as is the EGR system

    Perhaps a computer scan (onboard diagnostic test) would give you some hints as to where to look next.

    well my check engine light is on for a knock sensor, egr, and 4th gear I messed with the idle screw on the iac slightly it didn't really do much so I put it back where it was, all the vacuum line appear to be good

    Well a plugged EGR will certainly screw up the idle speed.

    do you think I need a new one or just to clean the one on it? how hard is it to remove?
