It only takes a few seconds to realize what the throttle response is, but they might be padding their chances on the safety side and to accomodate smooth and easy speed transitions at low speed or launch.
To illustrate this fact, my brother in law drives this Dodge shadow which is in pretty sad condition... He wanted to try out the G35 and so I said no problem... He gets in adjusts the seats and mirrors, fastens the seat belt, looks over his shoulder, steps on the gas and THAT is when it got interesting!
The next thing I know we've lurched into the middle of the road and almost to the median! and he's going "WHOA! Geez!" He steps on the brake and we both get that hard Gforce lunge into the seatbelts.
He said he pressed the accelerator the way he does in the shadow and also the brake, but the burst of instant speed from my car was totally unexpected and surprised him
Infiniti might have been aware of this potential phenomena and made the response curve of the throttle a bit exponential as well as making the travel on the long side. Can you imagine what might have happened if we traded seats at a stop light, and he was just trying to move a bit forward closer to the crosswalk? He might have taken out a few pedestrians!
Just some thoughts,

Assuming you were willing to fork over the $400 they wanted, for the repair :-) I took my Mustang GT in, to have the brakes examined (they had started to squeal), and asked for an estimate. The service rep told me that it may be as much as $250. I told him I didn't need the rotors turned, just new pads. He said that IS the price for new pads. If they had to turn the rotors, it could have been $250-$300, per side (front/rear). I laughed and told him to have someone look at it, but NOT to fix anything, until they called me. He called later and gave me the diagnosis. What did he say???

There's nothing wrong with the brakes, the squealing is NORMAL. What a MORON. Infiniti, here I come (as soon as you have a 6 speed available).
Read the article in ROAD and TRACK magazine last night on the sports sedans comparison test, and it was indeed nice to see the G35 rated first. And although the BMC 330i was cited by many of the editors as still the benchmark for luxury high performance road sedans (and rightfully so), it did me well to have confirmed what I knew about my seat of the pants experience in the G35, which, for the money (in my humble opinion), is the BEST you can buy. One of the things those comparison tests never seem to address is vehicle reliability history, but I realize they are comparing performance (plus a fair amount of subjective preference), and reliability history may be tough to ascertain for new vehicles. However, I do like what CONSUMER REPORTS does by reporting and projecting on the reliability of the manufacturer for a certain model (Nissan in general, and Infinitie inparticular, have stellar reliability history). Anyway, whoever said that G35 owner's should buy the July '02 issue of ROAD AND TRACK and frame the article (bronze it?) was correct. For some strange reason (never done this before) I have started a file and make a copy of every article about the G35 that is posted on web sites or published in magazines, and as a I look back over them, it still amazes me how positive most of the reviews are (they seem to get more positive as each month passes). There seemed to be more negative reviews then the G35 first came out here in the USA last March, and most of the relatively negative comments that were made seemed to center on the interior materials, some questioned a 'dumpy read end' design (but many also seemed to like the design, including your's truly), gas mileage, and (no surprise) lack of a manual transmission/clutch. Early reviews seemed to question the outside design and styling as unremarkable, however, many later reviews praise it. This is NOT scientific, just my general observation at the end of a long week on a Friday afternoon.
Still love washing my G35 on the weekends and then going out about town. It's still a rush to drive it home after work and inquiring minds still want to know about this car I'm driving. You really can't appreciate the car unless, like so many of you have said, you take it out and push it a bit. Then, wow!

Day 7 something airborne hits passenger door, chips paint.
Day 12 get rear-ended on freeway
aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Bumper took the hit pretty well. Looked much better than I was expecting from the feel of the impact. First two body shops I took it to couldn't estimate repairs (car is too new, not yet in the computer). New bumper cover next week, $600. This had better be it or I'm going to need therapy.
BUMPER..MY G35 WAS 3 DAYS OLD WHEN I FOUND
IT HAD BEEN HIT ON REAR BUMPER WHILE PARKED AT
THE MALL. THE DAMAGE Wasn't MAJOR BUT WAS VERY NOTICEABLE. I HAD THE BUMPER REPAIRED (PAINTED) THE FOLLOWING WEEK AT A COST OF $465.THE
"CALIBER COLLISION CENTER" THAT DID THE WORK
DID AN EXCELLENT JOB AND THE PAINT MATCH WAS
PERFECT.
1. It will ring with a tone to get your attention (like a *ding*)
2. The screen will magnify to show you a simplified version of the upcoming turn (street names are removed and the street lines are made very thick) It is still an exact graphical representation of the intersection coming up with a large arrow showing the turn.
3. It tells you how much farther you have to go before the turn, and the distance is called out appropriate to your current speed, so if you are going 30 mph it will say something like "In 1.2 miles, turn right" then again at half a miles and then down to "In 400 feet, turn right" all with the tone and the popup.
If you are going 100 miles an hour it will say "In 2 miles, exit right" and then "In one mile, exit right" at over 100mph those pesky exits come up fast and you need much more time to move over
4. It will (in very large and easy to read text show you the name of the street to turn on, or the name of the freeway exit.
I've had LOTS of fun and use out of the Garmin unit! I find that I just have a natural fascination with these nav devices
So to answer your question, yes indeed, it gives you LOTS of voice prompts and the prompts are even tailored for specific situations like rotaries... it will say "Enter Rotary and exit rotary at 2nd right... and it shows you a large graphic of the rotary and an arrow which shows you clearly which exit to take... The thing I really like about the popup graphic is that it is a direct zoom of the map data and not just some "canned" graphic showing a "standard intersection"... I just entered a rotary the other day with 5 feeding streets and I can;t tell you how much nicer it is to glance at the screen and get the instant info on how your entrance and exit is going to look...
Of course you can disable or enable any of these features you want, and in some cases, I have disabled the map popup because I was navigating thru block sized turns and when the popup stays on screen for a few seconds you can;t see the moving map and that can be a bit disorienting... but that situation is rare.
One of the things you're really going to like (and there are lots of cool whiz bang features taht will keep you playing for a while *smile*) is being able to enter a specific address and have it route you there... I credit the Garmin system for letting us look at LOTS of houses for sale in our area, whereas if we used a paper map, we would probably only have looked at 1/4 the number of houses.
Trying to find that address in the dead of night (heading to a party) is now no longer even a concern
Oh, and the other day a friend of mine asked on the cell phone... "When are you guys going to get here?" and I looked down at the Garmin and said 14 minutes and 37 seconds LoL! But I was wrong! We got there in 14 minutes 32 seconds
Let me know if you need more info...

OH! If you are looking for a GOOD price make sure to check out www.gpsdiscount.com first before you buy at fry's Fry's has some good deals but for $985.00 I got the unit with a 256 meg memory chip from GPS discount... the standard chip it comes with is a 64 or 32 meg chip I think, and holds a much smaller area...
G20s and I30/35s have sold well here.
Ok, on to the answers
The Garmin units, I believe, come with a 32 meg datacard as the standard "basic" package, and that amount of memory is enough to hold only a portion of California in Region 1. Because of that you would have to select the area of California you were most interested in and then if you were planning a longer trip to say, Nevada, you would have to download the parts of the region along your route and at the destination and origin.
I would definitely get at the very least a 64 meg datacard because each entire region (Region 1 is all of Cali and Nevada will fit in 64 meg. and once you download the whole region to the memory card you never have to fiddle with it ever again (unless of course you are going to drive to Washington state or Utah in which case you would have to get Region 2 map anyway)
Downloading the regions from your Computer to the datacard is quick and easy! I use the USB and it takes about 2 minutes to get both region 1 and 2 on the card.. then just slip the card into the SP III and you're good to go.
I have the 256 Meg datacard and Region 1 and 2 fit on it at 112 Meg... that means presumably that I could get another whole 2 regions on there if I wanted, and I don't don't expect to be driving past Colorado anytime soon
I am looking at my receipt from GPS Discount right now and I was slightly in error!
Apparently GPSDiscount has been around for quite a long time and the Garmin Streetpilots are only a small part of their business, they do Marine and Avionic GPS systems as well. I saw their name as the best source for the SP III's numerous places in my usenet searches on the net, and my experience with them was outstandingly good! I ordered the unit and got it in 2 days (well, technically 3, but that is only because I wasn't home to sign for the delivery on the day it arrived and they came back the next day *smile*)
But by all means, go to Fry's and have a look at the unit and play with it in the store for a while, to see if it is what you need... For me, it is an amazing tool, and all the more amazing because even though it fits in the "toy" category according to my wife, she thinks its great too! LoL!
Have a great day!

I have several friends in law enforcement, and they specifically scan for wether or not that glow from your dashboard is a NAV system, or if it is flickering like a movie is playing while you're driving. (more noticeable at night)
If it is the latter, and you are alone in the car, they will hit you with the stiffest infraction possible short of reckless driving, a little less if you have a passenger in the front, and of course the rearward facing entertainment systems (The driver can't see it) are immune to this.
One CHP officer told me that one driver who was watching a DVD movie (from a portable player) while she was driving at night, was so distracted by it that she didn't even notice that his motorcycle was right next to her on the freeway, and he said He saw that the woman was watching "Sleepless in Seattle" as she was driving... Crazy stuff...
Just offering this as a friendly reminder
Stay safe and keep your attentions on the amazing handling capabilities of the G35! Its a better rush than any movie! LoL!

I'm amazed at the stuff I see people doing while driving. Dialing a cell phone is bad enough (I have to admit to having done this occasionally before I got a voice-activated phone), but I've seen people shaving, doing their hair, and reading a newspaper.
Has anybody attempting doing anyting with the controls by moving them or lowering them somehow? If I have to drive this car on many more long trips like this the car will have to go. :-((
Thanks,
Kelly
Seat Controls - I am not a small person and haven't noticed any problem with the seat controls. If you are large enough that the seat controls make you uncomfortable, it would seem that you would have a problem on the left side also since all seats have firm outside bolsters. Any chance you're just sitting off-center without thinking about it?
First things first, the G35 is an awesome vehicle in every respect. Clearly, it has rocked the premier sport sedan automotive world.
Two weeks ago, I visited a dealer in the Atlanta area fully prepared to buy, but did not, for one reason. I found the drivers seat to be extremely uncomfortable with the seat controls situated on the right, pushing the stiff bolster into the thigh. I tried various configurations and was only able to make it marginally better. I am not that large (5'8 160 lbs.), so I could not attribute the problem to that. I had seen this issue referenced in the Detroit News review, but am surprised it has not brought up more often. Motor Trend (or C&D) referenced it only with respect to its susceptibility to drink spills. Unfortunately, I am going to hold off to see if the seat controls will be placed in a more standard position for 2004. It will be tough to wait, as I drool over every G I am seeing in traffic, but I just could not justify buying one now, due to that seat.
From all the press reviews I've read, thought there is an "on/off" switch for the traction control; however, even when "off" the TC is still "on", though in a much reduced setting (i.e., takes a lot more spinning before it kicks in). Never completely goes "off". Have no idea if that allows you to do burnouts. Guessin' it will be hard. You might really have to get the revs up with foot on brake and see if you can fool it long enough to get some smoke. Just know tires are expensive and I couldn't imagine wanting to use them up to produce smoke and tire particles.

We have almost 6000 miles on the car (picked it up beginning of April) and still enjoy it as much as ever. Just don't drive it as hard as we'd like because it takes SO much to make it feel like you are pushing the car!

Curious minds want to know...

Any solutions?
Otherwise... LOVE THE CAR!
I know they recommend premium fuel, but will it tolerate regular?
Personally, this makes no sense to me. If you blow 33k on a car, what's an extra $.20 a gallon or 3 dollars every fillup? That's a measely $156 over a year.
On Sightings:
Here in N. Cal/East Bay area, I had not seen another G other than on a billboard, but have started to see a few in the past week. On the way to the hills on Sat, saw a silver one, we both saw each other at about the same time and exchanged waves. I saw a green one (a color I immediately rejected at the dealer) on Hwy 84 on Sun, color looked better to me in real time than on the lot.
Anyway, my 2 cents.
Happy Driving
Paul
Have you heard anything about an LSD option for either of the G's? Thanks.
I assume the salesperson's post was deleted seeing that I don't see it anymore. I assume that was against the rules in some way.
I would, however, like to see it again seeing that I am at work and wasn't able get any info when it was first up. I personally like hearing from an apparently knowledgeable salesperson for a change. So how can I see the post without disturbing the rules?
Thanks.

I guess I actually did find the post helpful regardless of the solicitation, though I understand that is the whole point of the violation of the rules part.
As far as the solicitation itself, it just seems that many of us (or at least me) are looking for info and good deals whenever we can find them. In view of that, I assume you all still have access to the deleted post. Could I at least get you to send the post to an email account? Or at least the poster's info?
I understand the rules, but I'm also here because I'm interested in buying the car. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be in this particular forum in the first place. If someone can make that process easier or can at least give me info and to what to expect, I'd like the chance to at least hear what they have to say. (Not trying to be difficult. Just being honest.)
Please DO post some details, if you can get any...

Though I do not have a G35, I do have a 2001 I30. I found the wipers to be inadequate from the factory. Within a few months they began to streak badly and were very chattery at high-speed. This may be a problem with all Infinitis. This was extremely annoying and distracting to me. My solution was to replace the stock wipers with all-new wipers (not just the blades) from Bosch. I use the "MICRO-EDGE EXCEL" which are the best wipers I can find. They were like $11 each at my local auto parts store, but very well worth it. You will need to confirm that you can find the correct size for passenger and driver side. (they *are* different, most likely) The new wipers make almost no noise and the wipe is much cleaner with less water left behind. The new blade has a different design which helps keep it planted to the windshield at highway speeds, preventing the chatter effect. It helps alot if you periodically clean the wipers with soap and water when you wash your car. (run a wet soapy sponge along the blade to remove the black residue and filth that accumulates) Do this periodically and the Bosch's perform fantastically. Also avoid using the wipers in dry conditions unless you squirt plenty of washer fluid on them to wash away dirt so as to avoid abrading the wiping blades.
Wow...never thought I would write so much on wipers but some these are some tips I have developed to help keep the wipers useful and non-distracting.
Believe me, if it isn't good, it'll fail really quickly here in the hellhole (Phoenix). We have stuff with lifetime warranties. Much of it has "titanium" or whatever in it, and that part, at least, is real. My garage door opener (hand-held -- I'm still in the stone age) won't work until I crack the window.
Either way, the tint is probably very good, but the price. . .is not.

I did like the way the climate control system worked; it was an indirect sort of cooling. I find the G35 AC to be too cold at first. It ends up freezing my head (I’ll get over it though)
I was very anxious to get to the dealer to get my car back.
