As I have found out, "the hard way", there is not a formal "TSB" (ITB in Infiniti-speak) for the dim clock light issue. However, from what I have learned over on freshalloy.com, all new clocks have brighter bulbs. Supposedly, the dealerships should replace the clock, under warranty, if requested.

However, it does not seem to be "required", so your milage may vary, depending on the dealership you use. I hope Infiniti will make it into a formal ITB so that we can get this issue resolved. IMO, it is dangerous trying to read that clock at night...

    Hope this helps.

Yesterday I got a chance to sit in a G35 coupe (didn't want to waste the guy's time with a test drive). First, it's a far sexier car in person than it is in pictures. Second, the interior's definitely more cramped than my friend's G35 sedan, which I rode in yesterday too. Having driven the sedan really hard I can say that the coupe downright scares me because I have a feeling the moment I take one out I'm gonna dump a chunk of savings into a silly sports coupe.

Is the G35 not the most beautiful car on the planet? My heart actually goes pitter-pat when I see one of these gorgeous machines!

    Hey dane4,
I too am a happy customer of Infiniti of Pleasanton, glad to hear your experience has been as good as mine. I also feel that the buying experience that I had there was about the best I've ever experienced and I have been buying cars (new)every 3 years for 20 years.

My G (Des Plat Premium, no Nav) has been in to have its first scheduled oil/service, the fuel line check and replacement of a bad cd changer (which was also done on my word as they could not duplicate the problem). So far, very satisfied.

I did not realize that I shared them with such a prolific poster as yourself. Didn't I see you posting on a 300M board a few years ago as well ?

    Happy Driving

I live in Ontario, Canada. I am seriously looking at purchasing the G35 (6 speed) in January. I visited the dealer and was impressed with the automobile. However, can anyone tell me how this car handles in the snow and adverse conditions.
  • krishna__jkrishna__j Member Posts: 24
Hi. The rear interior lights on my G seem to have been miswired a little. The 'ON' position is 'up' on one side of the car while it is 'down' on the other side. No big deal since both lights work but I was curious if you guys had a similar setup or if this was unique to my car.

1000 miles in 2 weeks and loving every minute of it! Best car I've ever owned.

    Thanks,

Are there any details about the 6-speed in the sedan? I know the availability is most likely March, but what about option packages? Will the sport package come standard with the manual? Will the performance upgrades available in the coupe (Brembo brakes, 18" wheels, LSD) be available in the 6-speed? I really want the LSD!
  • clothcloth Member Posts: 52
    my lights are the same.

While there isn't any published information the dealers can share, the following is what I was told when I ordered my 6MT in October: Caution - these are details for the Canadian cars but I doubt there will be much difference with the US production:

    - 6MT will only be available with the Aero package in Canada. This is the equivelant to the US model with every option except the DVD navigation system (Luxury Leather, Premium Package, Sport Package, Aero Package).
    - The 6MT eliminates the exit/entry assist feature due to the addition of the manual clutch (?).
    - The 6MT eliminates the rear seat air conditioning diffusers that are in the center console in the 5SP auto sedan. Apparently there wasn't sufficient room in the console(?).
    - There is no Brembo or 18" wheel package. Running gear is exactly the same as the 5SP auto. Engine output is the same as the auto sedan (260hp).

I was hoping there would be the Brembo and/or 18" tire package but to no avail. Perhaps this will be available later.

Another note - pricing won't be available until December for the manual transmission sedans. Currently, the dealer is saying they will be the same as a similar equipped auto sedan. I think not! Manual trannies are always less expensive and they're taking away a few of the auto sedan features (rear seat vents and exit/entry assist).
  • robmarchrobmarch Member Posts: 482
but...nissan added the hlsd to the maxima 6-speed and kept the price the same. I think they will be similarly priced, even without critical features like rear seat vents and exit/entry assist ;)

This may have been previously addressed, are there plans for an AWD version of the G35 sedan; if so, when will it be available?

Is anyone experiencing premature brake wear?
Have had my G35 for 8 months 13,000 miles and the brakes are finished.
  • jjy1jjy1 Member Posts: 26
My 2003.5 G's breaks are much softer than the ealier G(from my test drive at least). Maybe they tweaked it so it won't wear as much?

The latest batch of G's are near perfection. No rattles, AC noise, just driving bliss...
  • skerewskerew Member Posts: 20
Question and comment. I agree with JJY1 that the 2003.5 seem to be more like a second model year car in the working out of the kinks. I have not heard of any, and certainly have not experienced any unless . . . I am a little puzzled by the transmission. From a stop at normal acceleration, there is adequate but not by any means overwhelming power in first and second gear followed by a HUGE surge in power in third gear. I am accustomed to having this power surge earlier (in my wife's V6 Jetta for example - which is a rocket by the way belive it or not). Is this completely normal.

Some of you long time posters may remember me. Back in March I bought a base cloth G35 and sold it within a week because I could not get a good driving position with the manual seats. I tried to be all responsible and "settle" for a Solara that I would describe as good old fashion vanilla ice cream. As you all know, sometime you just got to have some rootin tootin rasberry! Thanks to all the posters here, I have lurked since selling my base cloth and have learned about the glitches, what tires are best, and what's a good deal. Well folks, Infiniti is doing some dealing. I picked up my 2003.5 desert platinum leather sedan with Bose, sunroof, and trunk mat last night here in northern California for $29,997.00 plus tax and license. The car is even better than I remember! No more vanilla ice cream! There is no way in the world that I could have got that price 8 months ago. Thank you for all the wonderful information that I have gleaned over the moths.

This must be the most expensive G ever! But it's a hard lesson learned. Enjoy the ride.

When you are looking at a G35 sedan on the lot, how can you tell if it is a 2003.5 model?
  • doubloondoubloon Member Posts: 13
It is my understanding that the easiest way to tell you're looking at a 2003.5 is from the rear (as most bimmers will be viewing it)

From this angle the trunk lid should be smooth with a larger I N F I N I T I logo across the back as opposed to the pre-2003.5 model which has a square around the lift handle and a smaller INFINITI logo.
  • clothcloth Member Posts: 52
Good to see your back to the G. What did you pay, sell your cloth model for 8 months ago?
  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
jwilson1 was absolutely correct. It was an expensive blunder with my cloth. I paid 26,810 + fees and sold it for 23,800. I found out later that the dealer turned it around in two days for a comfortable profit. I have some lower back pain issues and simply could not dial in the cloth seat to avoid back pain. Then again, for 26,810 it was hands down the best vehicle out there. I never was a leather fan but I am rapidly getting spoiled with the driver seat, the Bose, the Xenons, and the sun roof. I just had to face reality here. Not all of us are destined to drive Solara's even though they are reliable and hassle free.

I've been mostly lurking around this board looking for some time now. Would you mind posting what you learned re: tires, etc.? I'm a big Michelin fan (not the sportiest of tires, but durable and do a decent job roadholding)...Anything you could post to help us future G35 sedan buyers would be much appreciated....Thanks!

I had no idea that you were in my vicinity as well! Apologies for not getting back to your message sooner... Things have been very busy on my end :)

I've dealt with every single one of the service reps at Pleasanton Infiniti including Mike the Service Manager and have had nothing but great experiences!

It was unfortunate that my rear bumper was scratched badly during the 15k visit, but they made good on repairing it, and even with my anal retentiveness to fine detail, you absolutely cannot tell where they scratch was :)

How are you liking the heavy rains we're having in the area :) I had almost forgotten what rain looked like it has been so long *laughing*... Are you getting the windshield wiper squeal? Mine chatter a bit after they have been on for a while ( more than 20 minutes ), but I might make a trip to the auto store and grab some of the high zoot Bosch wipers and see if that helps.

I don't think it was me that posted on the 300M board, but it actually was one of the cars I was looking at a few year back, so that would be an interesting coincidence if someone with a similar log name was there about that time.

Have a good one! and thank you for your kind words, I reciprocate the sentiments :)

Spray a little silicone spray on a rag and wipe down your wiper blades. That should stop the wiper noises as it did with mine.

I am really displeased with the service dept. at my dealership. The service manager is a [non-permissible content removed] and he is worthless. I live in a state where they are the only dealership and the next closest out-of-state dealer is more than 270 miles away.
Really sorry I gave up my IS300...it had quality...

I am interested in buying a New G35. I live in MA and take trips up to the mountains frequently and was wondering if the VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) is actually efficient in winter conditions? As many of you know, for most cars, there is more weight in the back, giving traction to the rear wheels thus less likely to get stuck in the snow...has anyone had experience with this? Also to reiterate, is there a front wheel drive option/model on the agenda?
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
Your point about the Infiniti dealer service experience is well taken. I have two Nissan Maxima's in my garage(combined over 330,000 of relatively trouble free miles).

I would be driving the G35 Coupe today (based on the product alone)if it weren't for the terrible Infiniti dealer experience in my area. It frustrates me that Infiniti can put out such a nice product and then not have the quality dealer network in place to back it up, particularly when the car is in it's first year and most buyers are a little wary of buying a first year design.

The point of customer contact is always where the relationship is either forged or broken. I am one of the rare people who have a wonderful Nissan dealer near me who is literally a partner in the Nissan ownership experience.

IMO, the specific dealer should be really high on the list as to why people buy a particular vehicle, not the other way around. If any of the car companies could figure this out and successfully implement a real quality program nationwide, they would significantly increase their sales and market share.

    Is anyone from Infiniti listening?

Now that Nissan/Infiniti has finally produced BMW-like cars, some of the dealerships have adopted BMW-like attitude as well; very disappointing. Infiniti has always ranked high on dealership satisfaction rating, but I expect its ranking to fall if things keep deteriorating.

I've narrowed my choice down to looking seriously at 2003 9-3, and 2003 Infiniti G35. (with the assumed additional power of the Arc - I am flipping back and forth.) Also, what gives? Car and driver, Road and track etc.. have done 2003 comparos for sports sedans, in which the g35 gets star reviews but the new saab 9-3 is never part of the competing pack - it's not even mentioned. Would love to hear anyone's thoughts who has diven Both G35 vs the new 9-3.

saved my tookus. Short story. Winding mountain road speed 60mph posted 15mph. Back end slides out from under me. VDC kicks in flings vehicle into straight path again. End result is: Me not spread onto the valley floor, and heart in knees back into chest. A wonderful option!

    Hi gang,

What does Bose RDS mean? The letters RDS are written on my cassette tape flap after the word Bose but I can't find any reference to it in the hand book. Thanks for any information you may have.
  • aftyafty Member Posts: 499
RDS stands for Radio Data System. It shows the call letters for radio stations, their genre, current song playing, etc. I believe it can also display traffic information, but I'm not sure.

I'm glad my BMW dealer is adopting more of an Lexus/Infinti attitude. :)
  • neo_gtrwneo_gtrw Member Posts: 76
Yes, thanks to the new Infiniti lineup, BMW must start paying attention to its customers. Competition is good for everyone.
  • norcalmike2norcalmike2 Member Posts: 133
Thanks for the RDS information. I have been having fun playing with the feature, I just didn't know what it was called.

Now a little information that I may share. Infiniti is having problems with the alloy wheels getting slightly gouged near the lug nuts both at the factory and the dealerships. Only one of my wheels had the minor flaw. I'm not sure that I want to mess with it as the gouge is on the inside of the recess of the wheel near the lug nuts. Just a little something for prospective buyers and current owners getting their tires rotated to look out for (and perhaps to emphasize to the service writer/sales people).

    Thanks for the tip Paul!

I'll give the silicon a try and see if it helps. I'm procrastinating and still haven't gotten the new blades yet, so if your technique works well, It will all be good...

Just for the record, my first visit to the BMW dealer was long before the new Infiniti line-up. At that first visit I was very impressed. However, dealers that operate "the old way", whatever that is, are doomed not to succeed.

Where did you get your good deal on the G35? Im also in Nor Cal, and am willing ot travel to get a good price.

Also, to everyone else, are there any published crash test scores for the G35? Its a factor in my decision.

Get ahold of Lou Derose at Sacramento Infiniti at the Roseville Auto Mall. If he has the car in stock offer him $500.00 over his cost. Initially he tried to zing me $400.00 for "national advertising fee" but came back to the real world after I showed him what the competition was offering. Also, Fairfield Infiniti is brand new and offered me anything on the lot for $500.00 over. If you go to Infiniti.com you can find out what the dealers have in stock. Initially I was talking to a floor manager on the phone about the car I wanted to buy. As soon as I mentioned what the other dealers were offering me he told me the car was not in stock. I called Lou and he did an end run around the floor manager and told me the car was there the whole time. We had all the numbers worked out on the fax machine before I ever left my home. No surprises, no hassles.

I heard today that the G35 is going to be named Motor Trend's Car of the Year. Has anyone else heard this? My source says he has heard this from Infiniti and it will be announced in the December edition. Cheers!

I just picked up my long awaited G35 Sedan last evening and my sales guy at Orlando Infiniti, Mark Plyter, told me the M/T COTY for the G35 is happening.
    BTW, the car is awesome!!!
I've been away from town hall for a while but I just thought I would let you all know that the G35 was worth the wait (since July)!!

My local dealer cannot locate a G35 sedan equipped the way I want. They have found one with all the options I want except for the wood package; they will have it mid to late December. They assure me they can install the wood package. I thought this was a factory option. I am suspicious that it will not be the same wood. My only other option is to "order" one and wait three months. Does anyone have any insights? Thanks.
  • vmaturovmaturo Member Posts: 71
    Wow.

Big crowds around it. Line waiting to sit in it.

The drivers seat was great. And the back seat was surprisingly comfy for a coupe.

But the best rear seat is the Murano. Not like any other SUV seat.
  • blinkerblinker Member Posts: 38
I imagine that the wood package should be something that the dealer should be able to do for you. Personally, I did not like the wood and my dealer removed it and replaced it with the "titanium" trim in about a 1/2 hr. No big deal.
  • steelrattsteelratt Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the help with my purchase. I ended up getting it at a local dealer for $750 above invoice, along with getting exactly what I wanted for my trade-in. Heres hoping the car holds up well.

I'm seriously considering the G35 but can't decide on the radio. I currently drive a TL with excellent BOSE system but I read several negative posts concerning the G35's BOSE system (lacks treble, doors rattle, etc.). I don't really need the features in the luxury package and $900 BOSE option is steep considering other companies offer it for considerably less.
Those of you with standard sound system, how do you like it? Wish you'd bought the BOSE?
