I think Infiniti engineers had that in mind when designing the G35's lights, since--if I remember correctly--you have to unbolt the bumper cover to remove the units, which certainly makes it more difficult.

But--as someone whose 530i was stolen last year by real pros--never put anything past a motivated thief.

Are these due in the fall or spring of 2004?

Everything I've read in fall 2004 as a 2005 model.

The headlight design on the G35 is very different from the Maxima, Acura, and others that are frequently stolen. To use the lights, one would need the actuator, which on the G is hidden inside the firewall. There's no need to worry, there would be too much work involved in taking the lights on a G, they would have to disassemble the car to get them.

Why has not Edmunds reviewed the G35 6MT yet? How about a new comparison test involving the manual transmission versions of BMW 330i, Acura TL, Infiniti G35, Saab 9-3/5, Volvo S60R, Cadillac CTS, and whoeverelse you wish to include?

Very good info. but there will be no digital dash in the G. There will be an interior redo, while not much to the exterior. The current G is scheduled for a five-year run with that freshening for '05. The biggest thing for '05, though will be the M35 ~ this car will be available with the ATTESSA system and will fill the space vacated by the soon-to-be dearly departed I35. No more Front wheel drive for Infiniti as we further distance ourselves from Nissan. Infiniti is at a very exciting point right now. STAND BY!

i have been looking into the Mercury Montego, but I recently realized this is way better for me. But I do not know which one I like better, the sedan or coupe. Anyone have any info about them? Thanks

Why not start with all the Edmund's road tests? The links are to the left of these messages.

When I sit in my new G35 M6 Sedan, even if the driver's seat is all the way down, my hair touches the roof. It is not too bad, just aggravating.

Does anyone know if I can lower the driver seat some more? I also don't want to recline back.

It's been a loooong time since I've posted here. Hi everyone. Man, the activity on this board is SLOW recently, huh? Let's see if infinitimaven is listening in. Can you tell us more about the M35? Is this the current M45 body with the G35 engine and ATTESSA, or are they bringing in a new body style already? I'm guessing the former is the answer.

If this is the current M45 body, I'll risk being a bit provocative here and say that this does not seem to have been a popular design as far as sales or looks go, and it felt rather cramped inside to me, even as compared to the I35. Perhaps Infiniti is relying on a price reduction into the 6-cylinder category, along with ATTESSA to attract some attention in the marketplace.

The word on other forums is that the changes for the '05 G35 will be seen at the NY Auto Show this month. Pay close attention to online info, and such sources as Autoweek.com for early info.

The M35 has been discussed in varios places. It is a brand new Infiniti based on the Nissan Fuga concept car as shown at the tokyo motor show last year. It is due out around Feb 2005 apparently and it will be joined later by an M45 of the same design. 2004 will be the last model year for the current M45. Have a look in the M45 forum here for more info.

Thanks, wibble. I did some reading here and on Freshalloy.com after I posted above. Looks like the Fuga-based M35 will be an awesome challenge to the Germans. Cheers.

Does anyone have any pictures of the 2005 G35 Coupe of Sedan that they can share with us? I am contemplating purchasing a 2004 Coupe for my wife within the next week. If there are any changes for the better in the 2005 version then we will just hold off until they are released. Your help would be most appreciated!

I've heard rumors that the G35 will get an interior upgrade/facelift. Does anyone know when this change will take place? (My current BMW 330 lease ends next year and I'm researching other possibilities... I like the G35's exterior design, but I'd like to see the interior spruced up a bit..) Thanks.

the new dash is supposedly coming in 05, but no details, pics, etc. are out yet.

Hey all. I have been hanging out in other car discussions and haven't been following up on what's happening in the G35 world. I would like to read all the posts here but I may not have enough time as I need to act quickly.

I am currently leasing a 2002 Acura TL-S and it is on its 3rd transmission. It drives very nicely when it feels like. For the most part I am OK with it as it gets the job done and I originally got a good lease deal on it ($1,500 down + $395 per month, 15K miles per year, 48 months)

Recently I got a letter from a local Acura dealer saying that they are interested in buying used Acura TLs because these cars are so popular and they will pay good money for them. This applies to leases too.

Then I opened a newspaper and saw a local Infiniti dealer advertising a G35 sedan lease for $0 down and $299 per month, 63 months, although only 11K miles per year. But this started the gears in my head moving.

I called the Infiniti dealer and he said that the advertised lease was for one particular car in their stock but he could come up with similar numbers and maybe get better miles allowance and maybe buy my Acura lease.

Hmmmm... I am going to go and check it out. I have no idea if I will get a good deal. If I don't, I will just walk away. But if I do... this is where I need more information quickly.

    1. Are G35 known for any design defects (like Acura's trannies for example)?
    2. Does a base G35 have a comparable ride and handling to an Acura TL-S? Or does one need to get the sport suspension. I don't like cushy rides.
    3. What's the best color? :) I got the best color (IMO) on my Acura TL-S -- Aegean Blue Pearl.

P.S. I promise I will start reading the archives :)
  • sopecreeksopecreek Member Posts: 203
There used to be premature brake wear issues with G35 sedans (not the coupes). I think Infiniti responded by offering extended coverage on the brakes. I wouldn't own non-sport suspension, there is very large difference in ride and handling. Thankfully, the difference in price is small (~$400) between the two.
Where I live, I see a lot of G35 sedans but almost none are white. My favorite color is twilight blue, though.
  • fjm1fjm1 Member Posts: 137
The only complaint I've heard, besides early brake wear, is thin paint. FWIW mine has not exhibited the rampant chipping that others have. No show stopping issues though.

Driving experience is on a another playing field. I have always found dramatic differences between FWD and RWD. TL-s is nice. G35 rips.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
well, Acura's paint is not thet great either.

Will try to find the sport package if the deal goes through.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
is that the lease is for 63 months, a bit longish... During these 5+ years there are other cars that I would be missing out on that I wouldn't mind getting my hands on, like the new GTO, Pontiac is supposed to come out with a Grand Prix GXP, also the Chrysler 300C Hemi is one nice car (IMO)....
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
Is it safe to assume that the sport package improves the handling at the expense of ride quality? In my case, I would sacrifice some handling for a smoother ride.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
well, how much handling would one sacrifice to get a smoother ride on G35?

For example, without the sport package, would one be able to take one of these ramps comfortably at 90mph?

  • sopecreeksopecreek Member Posts: 203
I went to a local dealer and asked a sales person if I could take a test drive on a non-sport version. Must admit I was expecting a lot on power and handling but figured sport suspension would be overkill (based on some of opinions expressed in this board). After the test drive, I was very disappointed because it just didn't meet my expectation. Then, he suggested another drive with sport version, and it was day and night difference. It just cornered like it was on rails. Since I drove shortly and on smooth road surface only, I felt no discomfort during the drive. As ruski pointed out, ride comfort cornering 90mph on a ramp would go to the sport version :)
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
for some reason the picture of my favorite ramps is not coming being displayed...

Hey remeber you from the 300M boards. I would go for the G. The only big problem was premature break wear but Infinti stepped up to the plate and offered a longer brake warranty. I have an FX35 and often drive the G's when my car is in for service and would not hesitate to recommend it. I have also driven the new tl while it is quick and has a better interior the handling is nowhere near the G and that 3.5 has real torque and not all the v-tech magic honda uses to get good numbers. I know you had a couple of supercharged GM's and the 300M if you like torque with no torque steer go for the G.

Infiniti's lease sweet spot is 39 months a nicely optioned G (premium pack + sport) shouldn't be more than 400/mo
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
I love my G35, but I wouldn't lease any car for 63 months. Never lease a car past the warranty period. Even then, 4 years is a long time to be locked into a lease.
  • eticketrideeticketride Member Posts: 53
    Ruski-
Love my sedan. Infiniti did step up and covered the brakes for 3 years or 36,000 miles. I have had no problems with the paint (ivory pearl). I have the sport model and it drives very nice! My only concern at this point is the comfort of the driver's seat. The seat controls bother my leg. At first, my leg would go numb. This lasted for about a month. Now it is just some discomfort. As of today, Infiniti refuses to address this problem. There is a TSB, but this has not helped very many people. This problem does not affect everyone. But please be sure to take a long test drive. Good luck!

Anyone having trouble with shaking rearview mirror? My G35 is a great car but one issue is that the rearview is very fuzzy due to vibration at highway speeds, even on smooth roads. Seems to be a lack of isolation between windshield and mirror mounting. Maybe they forgot a bit of two sided foam tape on my car?
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
I think you have fuzz in your rearview mirror :)
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
    wow!

I just looked at how much the G35 tires cost (the Goodyear Eagle GS-D) - $231 plus shipping on TireRack. Ouch!!! And it doesn't seem that there are any inexpensive alternatives available.

I mean I thought that my TL-S' OEM tires were steep at $180 per tire. But I have been able to use the Sumitomo HTR+ at ~$80 per tire and they performed quite well. Although they wore out rather quickly, but then the OEM Michelins wore out quickly too (one of the reasons I don't like my TL-S)
  • fjm1fjm1 Member Posts: 137
check alternate sizes like 235/50/17. Gives you a few more options than the 215/55/17.

Doesn't the TL-s have 17's? 17 inch tires, in general, are pricey.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
yeah but it seems that the TL-S' size is more common. It is 215/50/17 vs G35's 215/55/17. For whatever reason there is a larger number of inexpensive (but still good) alternatives to the OEM Michelins. For example a great Sumitomo HTR+ tire is only $80.

Will 235 width tires fit safely on a G35?
  • fjm1fjm1 Member Posts: 137
You can double check at Tire rack but I'm pretty sure it will fit properly with no clearance or speedometer problems. I've got the 215/55/17 Bridgestone Tranzas. Might be a cheaper alternative to the Goodyears.

You can put the 215/50/17's from your TL-s on the G35 as well. There will be just a tiny bit more fenderwell gap and your speedometer will read a little high. Same thing with 225/50/17's on the G35. No safety issues, it's just speedometer calibration will be slightly off. So if you gotta save some money......

FWIW I'd go with 235/50/17's because I'm a fanatic about handling.
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
I'm running 225/55R17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my sedan at the moment, from TireRack at $169 each. This is not the same tire as the OEM Eagle GS-D. Much better in the performance dept.

If you're looking for less expensive, the Kumho ECSTA KH11 can be had in 235/50R17 for about $100 per tire.

I wouldn't go with 215/50R17's, as the tire size is more than 3% off the stock size. That could have adverse affects on ABS and VDC, as well as throwing off the speedometer. 235/50R17 is a dead-ringer for the stock size in diameter, and 225/50R17 & 225/55R17 are both less than 2% off the stock size.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
Looks like I will be staying with my TL-S for now. Numbers (not the tire sizes - LOL) didn't work out. I still have 1 and 1/2 year left on my lease. Couldn't get any good deal with that baggage.

(even though the Acura dealer claimed that used TLs were in very high demand, maybe once I recuperate I will go see the Acura dealer and check how bad they want to buy my car of if is just a marketing ploy to get me into another Acura (no thanks, not after two failed trannies))
