Premium fuel is recommended for the G35. The rear seats do not fold down. The biggest issue is fast brake wear, which coverage was extended by Infiniti to 3/36 for those model year cars. There were a few early bugs that were worked out on the car, but they should have been covered by a recall notice and fixed by the dealer...so as long as the car has had those items done you should be fine. I bought my G35 in June 2002, and other than items above and a burned out LED center brake light, and one set of brakes at about 20K, I haven't had any other repair costs.

I just got a G35 with black on black (actually graphite on black.) It looks great when I drive around town at night. It just needs to be kept clean.

    Still deciding !!! Any comments?

Go for Garnet. They are less common and look especially good on a sunny day. The silver is very common and more of a ho hum color.
  • jjeyjjey Member Posts: 14
thanks but heard a lot about easy caught for speeding :(
...Silverstone? I 've seen a lot of popular comments on this color.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
I think silver is currently the most popular car color. That means you see a lot of silver cars but also means wide appeal at selling time, if that's a consideration. There's a reason you don't see many red G35s (or TLs or other luxury cars.)
  • jjeyjjey Member Posts: 14
yes, but I know for sure I don't want Silver. The Silverstone looks really good on the coupe but not the same on the sedan...and I believe it's a very nice color, it's just that I think I'm lacking something... to see the beauty of it! And Silverstone is a new color on quite a few other brands of cars too.
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Maybe I'm just a little dense today. I see a Brilliant Silver, Diamond Graphite and (possibly) Desert Platinum as the silver type colours on the G35. Did I miss something?
  • jjeyjjey Member Posts: 14
Hehehe... actually my first choice was Desert Platinum! it's just that, they can't locate any in Canada!! Do you believe that? Humm..diamond grahite? I don't see that color here ... not even in the 2004 brochure! Weird!
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Aha! Maybe a difference between the U.S. and Canadian colour descriptions. A quick visit to www.infiniti.ca confirms that Silverstone = Diamond Graphite. I learn something everyday! Apologies to the Canadian folks here for doubting there was a Silverstone,

Did anyone install a Cold Air Intake on his or her g35 yet? I'm wandering how much power did you gain and what brand did you use?
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
THe Stillen reportedly gives 5hp more on the coupe and 11hp on the sedan. Haven't heard particularly positive things on the Injen intake.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
5 hp on top of 280 or even 11 on top of 260 would be unnoticeable in everyday driving.
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Aboslutely. It's a 1.7% increase on the Coupe and a 4.2% on the Sedan. Local factors such as altitude, humidity and air pressure will probably make as much difference as will natural variation between engines. However, combined with other mods, the effect can stack up. It will be interesting to see the specs and differences on the 2005 models to see how the HP increases there have been attained.
  • nd4spdnd4spd Member Posts: 23
I appreciate the feedback, but please don't assume that the difference will be unnoticeable.
My 04 Maxima has Airhog filter on it and a Tornado fuel saver and it has more power (which I can definitely feel) both by sound and acceleration times, as well as reaching a certain speed. It gets to 80 mph a lot quicker than it used to before the mods. My friend installed the Nismo cold air intake on his Altima 3.5 SE, and it is very different from the stock car, the engine sounds a lot better and mid-level power is increased , if not significantly but you can still feel the difference. Of course is you are waiting for turbo-like response it will never happen, all it does is increase the denser airflow to the intake.
BTW, the Tornado fuel saver is great! I get better acceleration and still get 29 MPG, on the highway cruising at 80 mph. 26 mpg in town vs. 22 as it was before I installed it.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
I suspect there's a little placebo effect going on. If you read the car mags when they do engine mods, a 30-40hp increase usually results in only a .1 or so off the 0-60 and quarter mile times. I don't believe anyone can tell the difference between a 6.5 and 6.4 sec 0-60 time.
  • nd4spdnd4spd Member Posts: 23
Maybe, but I did notice that overall the MAx is faster. It is simple really, I accelerated on the on-ramp to merge with the I-95 and my best merge speed was about 10-15 mph over the best speed before the mods at the merge point. The car gained power, without sacrificing fuel economy.
And where in the world did you read that 30-40 hp will only give you 0.1 sec gain ??? Maybe if you drive Abrams A1 that weights 30+ tons.
If you have a gain of 30-40 hp at the wheels, you will get a lot better times than 0.1 sec.
Look at BMW 330 with the performance package, they only added 10 HP and gained a lot more than 0.1 sec Lets see if the new 2005 G35 with 277 ponies will be faster than the 2004 with 260 HP. I bet that I can squeeze 10+ more horses out of it if I put a cold air intake on 05 g35 and make it 287 + HP (that will be awesome).

Has anybody recently bought a G35 sedan from one of the two Infiniti dealers in the Twin Cities?

If so, what percentage of MSRP did you pay?

    Thanks!
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Hey ickes_mobile - you'll find lots of that kind of info over in the Infiniti G35: Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussion. :)
  • ickes_mobileickes_mobile Member Posts: 675
I've been there too. Trolling for information don't you know...
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
Here's a couple datapoints for you:

June 2004 Motortrend. Porsche Cayenne Turbo stock (450hp) 1/4 mile 13.8. With Techart Turbo Power kit (510hp), 1/4 mile 13.5.

June 2003 Motortrend. Suburu WRX stock 227hp 1/4 time 14.2, Prodrive kit, +69hp (on the dyno), 1/4 time 13.8.

These tests suggest that you need large hp gains to make meaningful difference in acceleration. But if you think your mods made a difference, so be it.

Ok, I bought a G35 in January of 2004 and a 7,000 miles (end of July)they had to replace the transmission because it started dropping into first on the downshift in automatic mode. Long and short they drained the trans and found burned fluid and metal shavings. Well now it is doing it again at about 500 RPMs and now shifting it third (about 1400 RPMs)it feels like it is slipping.

Did I get the only G35 that is having this issue? How did your dealer resolve it?

    Help!!!!
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
I haven't come across this problem but I'll ask around and see what I can find? I would try and get your dealer to change the transmission this time, especially if they find more metal shavings in there.

That's what I'm thinking as well but could it be a control module issue? The last time they said the computer was not throwing off any codes but I'm still wondering.

It kinda a drag cause the car screams on the freeway but I get whiplash in stop and go traffic. When it shifts into third, I feel like the boosters on a rocket just fired. Hard to look cool with your head being slammed against the headrest.

    Thanks for the help.

"That's what I'm thinking as well but could it be a control module issue? The last time they said the computer was not throwing off any codes but I'm still wondering."

If you're able to not drive the car for a day, you could dis-connect the battery for 24 hours. This should re-set the control module, just in case it's an issue with the adaptive part of the CM getting confused.

Can anyone recommend 18" for winter tires and driving? Does it affect driving? I know Sedan only comes in 17in wheels...Thanks.
  • snagielsnagiel Member Posts: 750
I have the 6sp Coupe, and am planning on buying the Fox 5 wheels from Tire Rack in the 17" size with the winter tires (and mine has the 18's stock). There's a very small market for 18" winter tires, and they are more expensive (as are the wheels) than their 17" brethren. Furthermore, 17" tires (which are taller and narrower) will perform slighly better in snow and ice, so I really don't see the point in upsizing for the winter package.

I had a g35x with a transmission problem at about 3000 miles. Infiniti replaced the entire car.

"I had a g35x with a transmission problem at about 3000 miles. Infiniti replaced the entire car."

That's interesting. Can you explain why as opposed to just repairing or replacing the transmission? Did they do this voluntarily?
  • bcd246bcd246 Member Posts: 3
They wanted to replace the trans. I insisted on a new car. That's what I got in the end.

I bought the g35x because of the AWD. I did not want to accept a failed trans. so early on with the g35x. That kind of quality from Nissan is totally unacceptable and they needed to, and did, do what was right.

Anybody seen an '05 sedan yet?
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
They've been held back to 10/19.

Next week.....cool! You'll probably see and drive one way before I do, so please post your reaction to the changes/upgrades!!

I just got 1,200 mile on my 2004 G35x and I got only average 12 MPG in local(mostly on university campus) and 18 on highway.
Is it normal for a G35X or there is some problem with my car.

Somebody who has a G35x can help me with the question. :(

    Thanks
  • pgillpgill Member Posts: 84
My experience has been similar. I have 15,000 miles on 2004 G35x and get about 15/20 mpg city/highway. I started with similar mileage as you are experiencing when the car was new and it gradually improved (although not by much). I guess it's a price you pay for performance.
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
Used to get 25/26 out of mine :)
  • bcd246bcd246 Member Posts: 3
I have about 8000 miles on my G35X. I am averaging 19.2 miles per gal. That is both city and highway.

The first several thousand miles were poor mileage, and then it has improved to this overall 19.2 average
  • pajackpajack Member Posts: 32
    Thanks you guys.
12/17 average is so terrble for my car with 1,326 mile on it.
I hope it will get better.:)
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
On a slight more serious note than my last post, laying of the gas just a little can make a huge difference to the fuel economy.
  • pajackpajack Member Posts: 32
    Hi wibble
Do you think to install a cold air intake can improve the fuel economy?
I am look at the Ingen intakes for G35.
  • snagielsnagiel Member Posts: 750
IMHO, they're a waste of money. They may, theoretically, help raise output marginally (say 2-5hp at best) under some conditions, but I've never heard any claims about improved fuel economy.

I've decided on the G35 Sedan 6MT, but have been wavering whether to take advantage of pricing deals for closing out 2004. I have a quote for the one I want for $29500, but he would have to order it from another dealer so he wasn't willing to negotiate further. That was for the base model with no options or packages.

The other option is waiting for the 2005 model, which is much more attractive and I can get the color I really want. I'm not planning on getting any options. I'm not sure how much more expensive it will be in the end or when I'd be likely to get the car.

So...is the 2004 price a good deal? If so is it worth the price break? And is the 2005 worth the wait? BTW I live in Cincinnati and there is only 1 Infiniti dealer in town.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
Your 2004 will be one model year old when you drive it out the door. According to Edmunds, that price is almost $2000 over invoice if it has no options. I wouldn't pay more than invoice on a 2004 model at this point.

Having only one dealer makes negotiating more difficult. What about Dayton or Columbus?
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
The 2005 6MT models are not going to be at the dealers until December. Production doesn't start in Japan until November. No word on pricing yet. The 2005 6MT sedan is going to have 298hp rather than thr 260hp of the current model.

I have a G35 with power seat. I can't stand the seat - the controls on the seat cut into my thigh and my foot falls asleep.

Anyone know if it's possible to get a manual seat from infiniti?
  • snagielsnagiel Member Posts: 750
I'm assuming they're available only from the JDM, since they're all power in the US. But I also suspect it would cost a small fortune ($3k) to locate, purchase, ship, and install it here.
  • eticketrideeticketride Member Posts: 53
Some people have lowered the seat controls and raised the bottom of the seat cushion. Others have completely removed and relocated the power controls and had the right side bolster reconstructed. I think these people did it themselves or paid about $300-$500 to have it done at various shops. Probably better and cheaper to do it one of these ways.
  • yomanyoman Member Posts: 2
I started looking into this option. I was able to remove the controls easily. There is a bracket which the controls screw into - it's this bracket which is the culprit. I haven't had a chance to remove the seat cover yet but I think I might try and see if there is a way to get rid of that bracket.

Ever hear of someone trying this option?
