I had to post again because i just made a service appointment at Toyota for our other car, the 4Runner...
I talked to him a while about the Edmunds.com thread about colors, and his take (he was an Audi salesman for 4 years before becoming a manager with Toyota) was that Infiniti was banking a huge amount on the success of the G35, and success means sales. You don't launch a new production line into the market with a bunch of "what if"'s When the car is in short supply initially and you are trying to move them as quickly as possible, you try to have as many colour choices as possible as "close" to each other as possible... So when a potential buyer comes in and sees only two red one's and a black one and he wanted a Green one, the salesman can say "but this colour is nice too!" and you want the buyer to go "Hmmm... I guess so even though it's not the colour I want" you DO NOT want him to go "Christ! I would never drive around in THAT colour car!"
His assessment was that it was almost a psychological thing, like all car marketing... you don't push, you push what works...
Exception to this rule of course are the high brand Marques... they are so established and have such a fanatical following that almost any colour will do... I mean, they actually make a Banana yellow Ferrari! and people buy it!

I own a Lincoln LS with a manual transmission. That means (by corporate caveat) that I have a 3 litre V6 with 210 hp. It has an interior measureably better than a Yugo and also measureably worse than Rolls. Go figure.
I guess the point is that the "sport sedan" segment is fairly competitive. Does color matter? How about audio systems? I think we're all agreed that handling and power are important. I've made a career out of complaining about the various combinations available when one desires a rear-wheel drive vehicle with a manual transmission. Oh. . .by the way, I'd like 250+ hp.
The message is. . .at least from several quarters. . .don't let the door hit you in the *** (ain't it wonderful to self-censor to avoid Pat?) on the way out.
Here's what I want: G35 power/torque/manual (assuming it really happens) with Audi interior and TBD service. I almost never use the dealer service thing, but it'd be nice if it were good. The LS and (it sounds like) G35 handling are great, but other issues remain to be determined. Also, I need a fold-down rear seat -- was really pleased to hear that the coupe had it.
Oh, there's that color thing.
FWIW.

BTW - Take a look at the Infiniti site the G35 Coupe is stated as having 275+HP - I would bet 5.5-5.8 for the Coupe - all for a starting price of less then $30K....not too bad.
I believe you indicated that you reside in the San Francisco Bay area? (or am I confused again?) If you see a silver G35 come rolling alongside your white G, give me a wave.
I purchased my car in Concord, CA. On the way home, I had to stop at the Mitsubishi dealer to pick up touchup paint for a door ding on my SUV that I purchased last year. I pulled in around the side driveway heading back to the parts department. I encountered someone that I thought was waiting for his car in the Service Department area.
He started chatting me up about the G35 and asked if I would open the door so he could have a look see. Then, he wanted to check out the trunk. I thought I would be one step ahead of him and I asked him if he also wanted me to pop the hood. He told me that he really liked what he had been reading about the car and was glad he got to see one. I told him that the dealership where I purchased my Infiniti G35 had gotten in 37 cars. In six days, they had sold 28 cars. I arrived on day 7 and two others were sold while I was doing the paperwork for my car.
After we chatted some more, I saw him walk over to the dealer showroom. The man at the Parts Department told me that I was just talking with the Sales Manager and that he wished he had moved so many cars in such a short time.

"the company says it COULD be a year before it offers a six-speed. More on that later."
Is that calendar year? Model year? IF MY, wouldn't that be October 2003?

The BMW color pallet does not thrill me but the Audi pallet is another story. The Dolphin Grey (a blue-gray) and the Ebony Pearl (black metallic with blue and green flakes interleaved) are really great colors that I would have paid an extra $500 to get on my G.
I often have to look at the title of the post a few times because in a bit of a rush you can sometimes see the title name as the writers name. It seems like a natural enough mistake because that name is bold and stands out
It was funny, because I scanned back quite a ways looking for where I made the comments you were talking about just to make sure that I didn't forget something I said LoL!
Out of curiosity, do you have a Macaw? My sister used to have an African Grey, what a handful that one was!

The consumers can have a choice of 260hp or 275+hp for the G35 sedan.
thats to distinguish it from the skyline's "V spec"
anyways, i believe on the japan site they have a silvia spec V and silvia spec R
All in all, a surprisingly positive report for a vehicle which doesn't have the freakin' blue and white roundel.

I picked up my new Twilight Blue G35 last night and have a chronic sgrin on my face.
Whilst driving the car from the dealer, I heard someone blowing me, looked accross to see a man in a large Benz(500?) giving me a "thumbs up" and mouthing the words "nice car".
It is a joy to drive. This truly is a "driver's car". I was about to go with a Passat(nice car), but called the Infiniti dealer(I had an I30 a few years ago). When I saw it, sat in it, drove it, I knew I had to have it if the price was right.
Went directly to the manager(I had dealt with him previously) and after two day got a price that I could live with.
For those of you in Brooklyn who is interested in this car, call Bart Marconi at Kings Infiniti.
Anyway, got to go put a few more miles on my car.
Thanks for all your info.
Enjoy your G,
Tony
Why? Do I detect some disrespect here. Don't you know it is the second greatest status symbol on earth?
this car is going to be our forth nissan/infiniti, do we qualify?
This is one of those situations where you can't tell them to "fix it" because they would just wash it again and make the whole thing worse...
You took this remarkably well
I use the meguiar's three step system thingy... cleaner, polish and wax... that is, on my 4Runner... on the G35 I just wash it with a good carwash and wax it... the polish and cleaner are more suited to older, dirtier finishes... If the car is brand new, just get it clean and then put as many coats of wax on it as you can stand

In a previous post, someone made a comment about being worried about Nissan's financial status. I'm not. With all the hot new models Nissan/Infiniti is coming out with now and the next couple of years, I went ahead and cashed in some telecom stock (what's left of it! LOL) and bought Nissan stock (NSANY). Granted, I took a loss on the telecom (it definitely wasn't pretty!), but I figured I'd recover my loses faster with Nissan stock, because I firmly believe they are headed in the right direction, (BTW, it has doubled since Sept '01).
Maybe my dream(s) will turn into reality soon, (stock profit $$'s and a new g35!).
Thanks again

But the silver lining is this; I bought a Garmin StreetPilot III and I LOVE it! With the CityNavigator mapsource it will do address level turn by turn routing with voice with amazing detail for the map area I purchased (all of California and Nevada)
But the extra special thing is that if you open the little lid on the storage area where the Infiniti NAV screen goes, the StreetPilot fits in the mouth of the opening with the lid clamping down very lightly to hold it in place! (you have to tilt the antenna to the side to clear the lid, but it seems to have no effect on satellite reception) It is the exact right width and the housing of the unit is the EXACT same color material as the Graphite interior plastic!
I'm actually very pleased I opted for this system as the Garmin is completely portable and I can use it in the 4Runner too and that is something that I couldn't do had I got the Infiniti NAV system. So I get to use NAV in two cars at half the price... To me that sounds like a good deal
The CityNavigator mapsource data contains a crazy amount of information! On the way home my wife had a craving for Lyon's Coffee (don't ask) and I punched up the info and voila! We found the closest Lyons Restaurant in a matter of minutes, and it led us there flawlessly.
Sorry to cheer so much over this unit, but Its just damned amazing!
The only downside is that the power cord does run down the side of the console to the cig lighter, but I am going to venture into seeing if I can route the wire from the power outlet in storage area under the center console and up into the storage place where it sits (might have to drill a hole at the bottom of it to get the wire in, but it will be totally invisible...
I would recommend this NAV unit to anyone, its great!

Go to: www.speedtv.com, click "Speed Channel" (for Program Schedule), enter keyword: motorweek, then click "filter", and you will then have the program schedule for the whole month. BTW, the G35 road test will be on Apr 19, 7:00 am ET. If you miss it on the 19th, Speed Channel has encore shows that week, various times, (check the schedule). Can't wait to see THIS show!!
Allen (;>D)
Please, don't let this ONE dealer knock you (or Infiniti) out of the running. Either give them another shot or at least find one dealer who WILL make you happy.
Allen
Speed Channel has a "feedback" link, maybe you (or someone else) could contact them to suggest more "info" on their schedules, (at least for MT and MW).....
We will just have to wait until the 19th, I guess.
Cheers,
Allen
Yeah, after several uses with the Mustang, I'm sure the engine will fall off. LOL You get what you pay for (Ford).
I checked out the G35 today. While it has all the hallmarks of an Infinity, I still think the front looks like the Altima. I did like the seats though. I wasn't crazy about the design and materials used in the interior. I opted not to take one out on a test drive because I needed to get home. That's for another day.
Was just using the "compare vehicles" tool here and Edmunds lists G35 0-60 as 6.1 and braking 60-0 at 111 feet. Did I miss something? Where are these numbers coming from? Anyone know?
Your'e not thinking about trading in your 2k2 BMW330, or are you?
Tony,
