    Are the tires now on the truck snow tires or all terrain, and in good shape?
    Go over to Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra Problems/ Solutions and hail user 'geo9'. He's the major plowhead in these parts. If he can't help, he probably knows someone who can.

    I too am having probems with a '04 2500 with Duramax engine. Can't get out of its own way in snow. Can't imagine how anyone could plow snow with it. Bought it new but last weekend was first time we had it in any snow of consequence -12". The truck would not move on a plowed road with hard packed snow. We noticed when we were pushing it that the right front wheel was tuning (at low engine speed) but the left front wheel was not turning. Took it to dealer today and they put it up on hoist, started engine and put it in gear. All 4 wheels turned but you could stop one front wheel with your hand. Reved engine up and mechanic could still hold left front wheel. Apparently this is normal with this type of front axle. I have a hard time believing this but that is what the mechanic told me. Our 4x4s are really 2x3s! Sure glad i was not towing a snomobile trailer last weekend. The truck tows our 10,000 lb. boat just fine, 80 mph all the way to florida, but just dont go on show or ice.

    I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has a solution. Perhaps my wife is correct and I just don't know how to drive.

    GUYS........Thats weird your having traction problems
    with your 2500s.

    My last 2 2500s w/plows I have had the stock
    deathstone 245-16 LT all seasons and haven't had many
    major traction issues.
    Both trucks have the limited slip rear so at least I
    have 3 tires spinning at once. If you don't have the
    G-80 limited slip option you only have 1 rear, 1 front
    tire with traction. So much for 4x4 huh????????
    What pressure are you running in the stock LTs ?
    Suggested is 60 front 80 rear..........
    In the winter I drop them to 50 and carry 1500 lbs.
    in the back for ballast because of the plow and for
    traction...........

    I have had many different tire types in my plowing
    life. The WORST were the Wrangler WTs with the big
    lug tread. It would get stuck in a mudpuddle !!!!!!
    A set of Wrangler RTS were not too bad and about on
    par with the deathstones................

    The guys on the snowplowing threads all have different
    opinions on all brands. But most agree the taller
    thinner M & S tires are the best for all around traction
    no matter what brand..........

    Even tho its a 4x4 these big boys aren't the best in
    deep snow or not being careful.........
    My dads s-10 runs thru the snow better than my 2500
    LOL !!!!!!!!!!! :confuse:

    I have the EXACT same problem. My 2004 2500HD 4X4 Duramax will get stuck in 2 inches of snow... I have 285 BFG KO's on it with the stock rims. I am really looking for a better solution. Looks like M&S tires, but I am not sure if the rims that I have are too wide or too narrow. In deep snow, the front end sinks immediately... Any more help or direction on this would be appreciate!

    I have a silverado 2500 hd with a 6.0 The question I have is while towing my 5th wheeler and pushing the tow button what exactly happens. The truck seems to go into overdrive.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    FYI: My 6.0 2500 tows fine with the tow haul engaged.
    If anything the tow/haul holds it out of OD........

    99 Chevy Silverado 2500 2WD; the outside edge of both front tires wear prematurely. Tire wear was normal when new, but the last 3 years the problem has gotten progressively worse. We had the alignment checked twice in the last year, but the tires continue to wear on the outside edge first. Could it be something other than the alignment?

    Recently I towed my travel trailer with my 2002 GMC which has an 8.1, Allison Tranny with no problems towing. Now that I have been driving the vehicle without the trailer, the transmission seems to downshift more often then it did before towing, especially when I slightly accelerate. Any clues what might be causing this annoying downshift?

    Does anyone know of the possible entry points for mice into the cab of a 2006 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax? I've caught six already but don't know where they might be coming in.

    Well guys..........My 04 Chevy 2500 4x4 x-cab has served me well snowplowing and heavy towing. Its payment book is done
    and the warranty was to expire in 2 weeks. So its time!

    Shopped around for a new GMT-900 2500 x-cab 4x4........
    But GMC pickins' are pretty slim here in central NY !!!
    Found 2 Chevys equipped in black with the work goodies
    I need ie: snowplow prep., trailer tow, G-80.

    Shopped my 04 at the 2 dealers and got offered $18,500
    and $21,500 trade. Both new trucks were identical and had
    $35,450 MSRPs. It was a no brainer at which dealer I
    was gonna buy from...............

    Monday was the last day for the rebates that totaled $4000!
    Due to special GM employee deals and bonus cash not to
    mention GM owner loyalty $$$ !
    Good thing because NO rebates or bonus cash on the GMT-900
    2500s for May......1500s only or GMT-800s !

    New rig is nice...........Z-71 pkg., built in trailer
    brake controller, PYO wheels all the power goodies
    and it has the 6.0 and that newfangled 6 speed auto.
    It has tap shift!

    Lots more balls than my 04 that could barely squeel
    the tires. This monster smokes them so hard the
    motor winds right up and bounces the motor off the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd !!! :P :P

    I have a 1994 GMC sierra K2500. The transmission went out and i need to replace it or rebuild it but I am not sure what one it is. It is an automatic with overdrive. The case has M30 stamped on it and there are 16 pan bolts. The only electrical connection on the transmission is on the passenger side and it is just 2 prongs that go in a big round connector. I belive it is a 4l60 but please tell me if I am right or not. Thank you for your time and I love this site.

    When I back up I notice a thump towrds the rear of the truck and then it takes more throtle to move.It is almost like the brake is on or the rear end is locking.Anyone run into this before?

    16 bolts square pan is a THM-700-R4 (4L60-4L60E)
    The M30 indicates that the vehicle is equipped with a 4L60-E automatic transmission.
    17 bolts with a square end on the front and rounded on the rear is 4L80E

    My automatic four speed transmission downshifts from fourth to third gear at highway speeds and will not return to fourth for some reason.The problems may be related but when kicked down at lower speeds the trans will not gear down unless manually done.I suspect a kickdown selenoid or other electrical problems but I'm not sure.Autoparts sellers list my vehicle has a 4--- type tranny but I was under the impression it was the 700.Any info on how to determine my transmission type or advice on possible solutions would be greatly apprieciated.My truck is a 2000 c/k 2500HD old body style.

    I was parked on a slight hill on paved road. Truck was in park with e-brake on,engine off,no keys in ignition. I had a 16' flatbed trailer(maybe 1000lb of weight) hooked to ball of truck with ramps.I off loaded a small kubota tractor, When the back and front tires of the small tractor were on the road surface my truck and trailer started rolling down hill on its own.It started down slow for a couple of feet then gained speed,with all 4 wheels rolling. A friend of mine was standing behind the tractor saw the truck moving and ran after it , he barely caught up to it and opened the door ,jumped in,grabbed the steering wheel and slammed foot on brake.The truck did not stop.it started slightly veering to left(started to jackknife) and within 10 seconds or so was completely sideways with the trailer smashing into rear panel.The trailer actually when jackknifing pushed the whole rear of the truck sideways until the entire truck was crossing both lanes of road. the truck only came to a stop when finally nosing into a wall of dirt on other side of road.If the truck didnt jackknife and turn the trailer to stop on opposite side of road, the truck would have continued straight down hill and cross over a dual lane cross street and proceed over and straight down a 100' cliff with my friend in it.

    HERES THE PROBLEM;
    WHEN THE TRUCK WAS ROLLING ON ITS OWN AND MY FRIEND JUMPED IN TO SAVE IT,THE ENGINE WAS OFF(NO BRAKES AVAILABLE FOR STOPPING)THE STEERING WAS LOCKED(NO CHANCE OF STEERING THE WHEELS)THE E-BRAKE WAS ON(DIDNT SEEM TO MATTER)AND NO KEYS IN IGNITION(WHICH IS NORMAL WHEN PARKING).

    QUESTION:

    HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING ?

    DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY IT WOULD ROLL ON ITS OWN ?

    WHERE CAN I GET PROFESSIONAL HELP TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS PROBLEM ?

    "GM REFUSES TO TAKE RESPOSIBILITY AND SAYS THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH TRUCK(AFTER ONLY HAVING IT ON A AUTO RACK FOR 1 HOUR HOOKED TO A COMPUTER.)"

    DOES ANYONE KNOW IF ITS ELECTRONIC,LINKAGE,TRANSMISSION OR TRANSFERCASE?

    I JUST PAID 56K FOR THIS TRUCK 2 MONTHS AGO .THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED.

    IT IS UNSAFE TO TRUST IN PARK ON A HILL!

    WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN WITH A BRAND NEW TRUCK?

    I would not trust Park or the Parking brake to hold a truck & trailer on a hill. With just a vehicle alone I was trained to point my wheels to the curb to prevent just such a happening. We were always expected to chock the wheels on a hill with a company truck. With all new vehicles and this drive by wire crap you are dead as far as steering and braking. I hope your insurance company is generous.

    I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 6.0 liter 410 rear. Stock rims are 16 x 6.5 with 245 75 16 load E tires. Can I go to a 265 without any problems on same rim.

    from 245 to 265 as long as the replacement tire has the same or exceeds your current tire speed and load rating. There will be a small deviation in the speedometer and odometer but nothing major. If you would like you could purchase an aftermarket programmer to adjust for the size difference or you could have the dealer do it for a small fee.

    Don't know why other than cost that GM went with those puny 245s. Made the truck look kind of dinky.

    the transmission has a manual likage. its a little hard to "buy" your story. you are telling me that you had your truck in PARK with the E-BRAKE on?? they both failed???? i rebuild transmissions for years and NEVER seen a parking pall break on anything. IF YOU HAD YOUR KEYS THE TRUCK MUST HAVE BEEN IN PARK, ITS ALL TOO HARD TO BUY IM SORRY YOU JUST SCREWED UP THATS ALL. HEY IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US NO POINT IN BLAMING IT ON GM

    If you ever buy a diesel PU you will never go back to gas. the fuel mileage difference is really awesome. Diesel fuel is expensive but the mileage differential compensates for it.

    I won't be as hard on you as McFly, but I'm not a transmission specialist neither> Possibly your transfer case was in neutral. You may have pushed the button accidentally. With transfer case in neutral, it bypasses the locked trans. Are you sure the E-beake pedal was floored? If so, you definitely have an E-brake problem. Without a running engine, no vacuum to power booster, so you would need legs like Fred Flintstone to push down on that pedal, but it still should've stopped. Under those harrowing circumstances, are you sure your buddy was pressing down hard enough? Scary stuff!

    I have a 2004 Silverado 2500 Crew Cab in the silver color. My door moldings have bumps in them. There is a bump in each moulding. The front bumps are closer to the back end of the door and then back doors, the bumps are closer to the front end of the door. These bumps are in the same spot on each peice. Has anyone ever heard of this before and if so what did you do? Buy new? Thanks!

    If the truck is not under warranty anymore, is it worth the money to fix them? Did the ones that your warrantys covered do the same thing?

    No the new ones didn't do it as long as i had the truck. I got rid of the truck at 30000 miles because of so many other major problems Most that GM. said was normal. & wouldn't fix.I now know they weren't normal because so many other owners having to fix them at their expense.If thats all the problems you've got & like the truck I would have it fixed at another body shop.Not GM Good Luck

    What the deal is that somebody messed up and didn't pull the bar code
    stickers off before they put the adhesive OVER them then put them
    on the truck. Then the sticker pulls away from the moulding and
    adhesive then the "warts" appear !

    You could try to call the GM 800 number and maybe there is now a
    recall or a goodwill adjustment for a free fix!
    My 04 had this issue and I never bothered to have them replaced but
    the person who bought it after me did while it was still under the new car
    warranty.
    That and a heated mirror failure were the only problems I had with that
    truck. I will note I heavy towed and snowplowed with that rig also!

    I now have a 07 GMT-900 2500 x-cab 4x4 which has been flawless and I
    work the tar outta it also! :shades:

    I just got off the phone with the 800 GM people. They told me that since it is out of warranty that I would need to set up an appt. with my chevy dealer and they will take a look at it and see if they can assist me at all with this. The appt with the chevy dealer cost money, but the guy didnt know how much. Has anyone done this before and came out ahead? Will they help out or just feeding me a line? Thanks!!

    Goodwill adjustment is whether GM and the dealership agree that you are a good enough customer to go the extra mile for. Like buying multiple vehicles or even your current vehicle thru their dealership. Do you have maintenance done there? And of course if you're a likeable person according to the service manager and if he isn't having a bad day. Basically it's a toss up unless it is a recall which I doubt since there is no safety issue.

    WELL my 07 Chevy 2500 x-cab 4x4 GMT-900 has made it thru its
    1st year !
    With a big 7000 miles of working hard snowplowing and heavy
    towing it hasn't missed a lick and required nothing but a few
    $19.95 oil changes.............
    Waved bye bye to Onstar and ready to head to the dealer to have that
    screwy tire pressue sensor system reset as the warning message is
    making me crazy! (note: stock tires and PYOs)
    Now that snowplowing season is over I can leave
    it with the dealer for a day.

    Dislikes: Wipers SUCK freeze easy and fall apart and the winter
    rubber covered ones are not avail.yet. The mickey mouse plastic
    attachment device to the wiper arms is a POS also!
    The guy that designed them must live in Arizona !
    The auto start is great but limited to 2 10 minute running sessions
    which ain't long enough to warm up the interior and unfreeze the
    windows! The heated mirrors are a better design tho and keep
    them heated and clear in the worst weather.
    Rear cab floor design is screwy and not flat like my 04. So my
    nice GM storage box w/lid won't fit and had to get the new design
    open top GM box. It don't hold much but still useful!

    Nice truck and no regrets here!

    Hi i have an 08' gmc sierra 2500 hd with navigation system. My system does not play dvds, but my brothers truck (07' Chevy silverado) has the same sytem and his plays dvds... I was wondering if there is a way to get mine to play them as well and also i would like to remove the stupid warning that comes up everytime i start my truck, that i have never read! Also i would like to remove the feature that makes it impossible to use the system while driving, I know its very unsafe but im willing to take that gamble. Any help would be apprciated.

    Not a clue here Dean ! It looks just like my 03 except it sez DTS
    instead of Deville and is white instead of crimson red.
    Does a nicer burnout with the trac off than the 03 tho!
    I can assume both have 275 hp...............

    Still am stumped on the nav. system. Its a PIA to have on while driving
    always blinking, changing. Be nice to find that mod to make it play DVDs
    tho!

    Now I gotta have my "Cadillac badge of Heritage" emblem changed from
    #7 to #8 :shades:

    Wish they gave them out for Chevy trucks !

    After much searching, I located my oil sending unit. I can figure out how to remove it in the little space provided. Is there a special tool required? If so where can I purchase it.

    Have a '01 2500HD Ext cab 4X4 w/ 6.5 box, 8.1 L engine. The specs say the payload capacity is 3092 lbs but the Truck Camper Load sticker in the glove box says 2024 lbs including passengers. My camper is 1941 lbs dry so I could be in trouble. Whats the difference between truck camper load and payload capacity? Also, anyone know why the payload capacity is different from year to year (an '05 is 3764 lbs) when the GVWR and front and rear GAWR are essentially the same?

    Purchased truck in Oct 2007, plowed throughout the winter with it, absolutely no problems. 6 weeks ago went to start the truck and it was completely dead. I do live close to work and often walk so the truck had been driven sprarsely in May. Towed to the dealer who checked various connections and in the end just replaced the battery (one of two) and blamed the short on the plow installers (who have a sterling rep). Just this weekend went to start the truck and dead again. Going back to dealer tomorrow, I jumped it and it started after awhile. Any ideas? Have heard of "Battling batteries" does this sound feasible? Thanks in advance.

    Sounds like the dealer may be right and that you do have a parasitic drain somewhere.

    Ok,
    Had it back to dealer again after replacement of battery. Mechanic said fuel relay switch bad and replaced. Trickle charge of battery for 36 hours+ and running fine. 3 days later dead again. Trying to get it in over weekend. If no success this time I guess its time to try another dealer and then maybe plow installer to check? No problems for 6 months and now its hit or miss on whether it starts or not. What about the starter or the ignition switch?
