Found the page and the TSB# 22-04-95 on tire/wheel mounts was listed but not accessible. 6 years old is stretching it on reliability anyway.

My last run with the fifth wheel was in 3rd and the noises from the engine compartment were very disconcerting. Every now and then, running at between 62 and 65, I'd start getting some kind of harmonic vibration that was even louder than the normal diesel noise. Even more annoying was the fuel consumption, about 9.5 mpg over 250 miles. I also have 2.54 gears in my '01 2500 Cummins. I have no complaints about the acceleration or hill climbing power, but the highway performance is very disappointing.

Looking for a new truck. Biggest problem that I am finding is the payment scheme. I want to keep my payments low, so I know that I'll have to lease. I want to keep them in a 230-250 range, but I also want a 4x4 extended cab (not club though). How much would I have to put down to make this happen?

I have a pretty simple question. I am preparing to oder my new quad 2500. Can you tell me what the difference in mileage will be if I order the 4.10 rear as compared to the 3.54? I want the extra "giddyup", but not if its going to cost me serious amounts of fuel... Thanx...
  • warfishwarfish Member Posts: 117
You didn't say what engine you are going to order or what you are going to do with it. If you are getting the SLT package and the Cummins, go for the 4.10. The RT265/75R16 tires that come with the SLT give you too few RPMs to tow anything close to the limit.

I want to know if there is anything that I can do to override the top speed limiter on my 00' Dakota
Quad Cab, 4.7 v8!!! I love this truck but getting past by 4cyl. Rangers on the top end, that really, really, upsets me!!! Any help would be great!!
  • robbietrobbiet Member Posts: 2
    Slick,
As far as i know there are no changes for 2001 Quad Cab,Normally when Dodge puts out a new body style they keep it for awhile at least five years or so. So i think its safe to say no body changes You should check out the dodge dakota loading zone its a neat interactive program you can find it at www.orangeparkdodge.net

Maybe they put a speed limiter on the trucks just to save the rest of us from guys like you. If you wanted a hot rod why did you buy a puny little engine in the first place, did you think with your outstanding skill at the wheel you could make up the difference?

A farm bureau membership will get you another $500.00 off the bottom line. You don't have to even know what a farm is to be a member. Check it out.

Hi, I have a question. I ordered a 2000 Quad cab on 4-27-00 and I'm still waiting on my truck. Here's the quick version of the long story. On 4-27 we ordered our quad cab (4.7, 5-speed, limited slip, sport plus and overhead convenience group). We were told by the salesman in due time that the truck had been built and was shipping. Eventually we were told that the truck was in "limbo" and they couldn't find it. A call to the sales manager on 6-24 reveals that the truck had never been built, that DC had dropped the order, AND that the truck had to be ordered as a 2001. The dealership re-ordered our truck (unbeknownst to us) on 6-15 as a 2001 model. We were given a ship date of 7-12 and the assurance that any price increase would be footed by the dealership. Well, the latest word as of Saturday is that the truck most likely shipped on 7-21. I don't have a real good feeling on this one folks, any tips? Does anybody know if they are even in production yet? Will I get my truck in a few weeks, or is it months? I feel like I'm being jerked around a bit. As far as pricing I was told that the base price had only increased by $111 dollars. I'd really like to hold out for the truck, but at 12 weeks and counting, I'm getting a bit impatient. HELP !

Dodge stopped making the 2000 model year Ram in January due to CAFE credits. All the trucks are 2001 since then. The 2000 model year was only 4 months. I believe that the 2002 model year will also be an early release.

Thanks for the advice bookitty, Chrysler says my quad cab shipped on the 19th. I look for it to arrive next week. I'll post pics somewhere for the other folks interested in the 2001 changes (like everyone else, I've heard they are minimal, and involve the fascia area)

DIESEL5.9CUMMINGS 2001` 1TON DUELLY 3.54 RATIO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE IN FUEL ENCO.THINKING ABOUT BUYING THIS FALL PLEASE HELP.
  • warfishwarfish Member Posts: 117
FYI, there's no g in Cummins.
What are you going to do with this truck? I assume you must be towing something fairly heavy, and if you are and are getting a manual tranny the 3.54 may be OK. Anyone would need to know more about your plans to give you any solid advise.
Don't ask your salesman, I went that route and asked 4 different dealerships the same questions and got the same bad advise from all of them.
  • ldh2ldh2 Member Posts: 10
THANKS FOR RESPOND.ITS STRITLY A FUEL ISSUE. I REALLY DONT WANT A STICK BUT IF IT MEANS 5 OR 6 MILES TO THE GALLON BETTER I WOULD BUY IT. THE TRUCK IS AS STATED,3.54 RATIO DIESEL.WHAT DOES ANYONE SUGEST?
  • jinglejingle Member Posts: 1
Does the 1999 Dodge Ram Truck 1500 Quad Cab come with a lighter suspension as a manufacturer offer or does it only come with the heavy duty suspension? Is there an option?
  • warfishwarfish Member Posts: 117
If you were to order a Ram 1500 now it would be a 2001 model. That has been the case since January of 2000. Actually the suspension on the 1500 is a bit on the soft side anyway, but if you got one and thought it was too stiff a spring shop can soften it up for you quite easily. I just had it done on my 2001 2500, it cost $200.00.

Why does my 2500 deisel squeek at shut down? it sounds like the belt.
  • warfishwarfish Member Posts: 117
Others have reported the same thing and I agree, it must be the belt slipping because the engine stops so abruptly.

My sister has a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, 1996. Very pretty vehicle, silver and blue but she has got so many mechanical problems with it. I was wondering if anybody has any horror stories about their trucks they wouldn't mind sharing.

This one time it was at the dealer for eight days. Oh sure the dealer let her rent a truck while hers was being repaired, but after the fifth day he charged her nearly double!

This has really soured my opinion of Dodge. Not that it was that great to begin with.

I'm heading back to college and thinking about buying a used 1995 Dodge Dakota Sweptline Sport. It has 87,000 miles on it and I'm looking to see if anyone has any information on this truck, specifically performance, maintenance, and repair history.

I am seriously disappointed in the mileage I'm getting from my new (1000 miles) 2000 Dakota. It is a club cab 4X4, 4.7L v-8, auto. I have a light (800#) pop-up camper on it.
A am getting 10.5 - 11.5 MPG around town, even when I try to take it very easy on the gas pedal.
My friend has a Ram 2500 diesel and gets about 19 MPG, which he won't let me hear the end of.

Why does this small V-8 get such crappy mileage????
  • jcmdiejcmdie Member Posts: 594
Diesels are well known for fantastic mileage. Remember that to get that you have to pay almost $5,000 more. That doesn't really answer your question about yours. I've got a '98 full size quad cab 5.9 liter 4 x 4 and will do better than that. The 4.7 is suposed to be a more efficient engine. I would bring it in - that isn't right.

(guzzler3) check out CLUBS topic 29 the DAKOTA OWNERS CLUB-MAINTENANCE TOPIC. There is a discussion about an
update to one of the onboard computers that has
    been shown to improve MPG.

I have been dreaming to own a Dodge truck or Durango but upon seeing the MSRP, the prices are ridiculously HIGH! At the rate the prices continued to go up since 1994, in ten years or less from now, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes over $50,000! Yesterday, I saw a 2000 Dodge 3500 Diesel truck going for $41200! For what? Are the factory CEOs trying to get their names on the top 5 Fortune 500 list? There's nothing new about these trucks, no technological advances that Bill Gates or Intel didn't have to justify the high price demand. (Few years ago on TV National News, it has been reported that the American auto manufacturers are enjoying a huge minimum $10,000 profit from EACH trucks and SUVs sold.) These trucks, as well as cars, are STILL using the same antique technology that Henry Ford or the Dodge Brothers have ALREADY invented. For that kind of high price demand going on today, I expected to see trucks and SUVs to be able to levitate, fly, ability to cook and serve hot gourmet dinner and run on beans. My question to you salesmen or factory rep, can you give us the manufacturer's justification for the ridiculously high price?

Can't find the CLUBS topic #29 under DAKOTA OWNERS CLUB-MAINTENANCE TOPIC about onboard computer to improve gas mileage. It talked about brakes chirpin'.....so where's is it? :)

I'm not a dealer but I doubt you'll find one on this topic. The dealer who started it left along time ago. Part of the problem is that you are looking at MSRP. I know they are over inflated and the dealer mark ups over MSRP are even worse but if you skip the salesmen and just deal with the fleet sales manager, you can usually get a deal for a certain amount or percentage over invoice. I did some looking around and finally found someone in a dodge topic that told me about a sales manager who was selling trucks for $99 over invoice. I walked into the manager's office and ordered a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 Quadcab with every option except the leather and got the truck 6 weeks later. Total time in the dealer on both trips was about an hour..to order the truck then sign the papers on delivery....no hassles!
Also, check with the farm bureau. Sometimes they will offer a $500 rebate on Dodge trucks if you join them atleast 30 days prior to taking delivery and you don't have to be a farmer to join. It cost me about $45 to join so my truck actually came out to about $356 UNDER invoice. The trucks are still a little pricey but if you look around, you won't get screwed too bad.

    Good luck.
  • jcmdiejcmdie Member Posts: 594
The popularilty of trucks have driven the prices up- supply and demand. In addition to that the trucks selling today are all dolled up with accessories that cost $. They didn't sell trucks like that 10 years ago, they simply didn't exist. Base model trucks are still being sold and the pricing isn't too bad. People rarely buy at or near msrp. I got mine at $100 over invoice.

Any suggestions, recommendations, horror stories with any particular soft tonneau covers? I'm specifically looking at the Extang Sabre snapless and the Berlin models. Thanks in advance!

I had a tough time initially locating the Owner's Clubs too. I will attempt to point you to the proper place...

In the left-hand pane of your screen there is a YELLOW area. There is a drop-down box labeled Conferences:. Find the selection labeled Owner's Clubs then hit GO.

You will find topic#29 as well as several others in this 'secret' area.

Once you are in this 'secret' area. find all of the forums starting with the word Dakota- and put a check next to them. Now your bookmarks page will contain the BEST Dakota discussions. ;-)
