i dont understand. Hows it possible to get a brand new hyundai sonata 2012 limited turbo for $20,000?! Tax here is 6%. CASH PRICE of vehicle was $26,171 if that helps BEFORE TT
  • jlindhjlindh Member Posts: 282
I'm afraid you're still missing the point. My use of a $20,000 price was an exaggeration in order to illustrate the fallacy of comparing nation wide car prices based on an "out the door" price. No one can tell you whether you got a good deal on a car unless the taxes and fees (not the dealer fee) are factored out of the equation.

For instance, Oregon has no sales tax. Apparently Oregon Taxes (0) and fees on any new car amount to a total of $112. On the other hand, if you buy a car in a high sales tax state such as Nevada, you could easily be out over $2500 on a typical car. And this doesn't include any possible county and city taxes that may or not be added in. Therein lies the fallacy of comparing "out the door prices". If your out the door price for a certain car in Oregon is $25000, you actually paid about $25000 for the car. On the other hand, if you paid $25000 "out the door" for the same car in Nevada, you actually paid about $22500 for the car, a much, much better deal!

The cash price (not sure what that means unless you actually paid cash) of $26171 is something that other buyers can actually relate to, especially if they're in another state.

    Hey everyone,

Need some help from my friends on here. Here is the offer i have for a base 2012 SE MSRP of $24464

    Sale price $23,100
    doc fee $249
    taxes nj $1617
    tags $313.75

    Total $25779.75
minus $500 loyalty (father has a 11 limited)
    minus $1000 ($500 cash down/ $500 motozuma match)

My total amount financed would be $23,779.75 @ 72 mos at 3.9% would be $373

Here is my dilemma. Hyundai is offering a $1500 rebate on leases!!

Even after i figure in the $595 bank fee i come out ahead of the game on a 36 mo 15k lease and 36 month buy of the $13455 residual.

The residual is 55% and the money factor is .0014 (3.36%)

my lease payment is $290 a month w the $500 down.

Before anyone says it would be cheaper to buy if you paid cash or went 36 months please understand that i do have a monthly budget.

    Thanks guys

The 1500 rebate applies if you lease the car. Not sure about NYC, but I have seen much better deals in the Dallas area.
  • alphaiitalphaiit Member Posts: 7
Bought a 2012 Sonata GLS in Dallas today.
Extras - Cargo mat and net, window tint and ipod cable.

    Internet price = 19388
    Balloon finance rebate = 1500
    My price = 17888.
    Down = 1000
Finance charges ~ 2200 (@ 4.79%), for 3 year balloon. I might try to refinance after some time.

I think this is a good deal. What do you guys think? :)

I like the deal you got - it's a lot of car for the price.

I don't like the idea of refinancing your car after a while.

If you understand how amortization works on a loan - you will learn that you're paying most of the interest up front and the priciple on the back end. Refinance after a couple years with a rate a couple points lower and you've just kissed goodbye all this interest up front with little to show for it.

Get the best loan you can find and stick with it all the way to the end.
  • alphaiitalphaiit Member Posts: 7
    Thanks for your response.
Reg refinance - its a simple interest loan, so the dealer told me that 'paying most of the interest up front and the principle on the back end' is NOT the case. Based on what the dealer told me, and my research, I am going to give it a shot after a couple months and see.

FYI - I found another dealer in the area whose price is 130 less than what I paid. Just wanted to keep the readers updated.

You can get one with NAV under $30k -- I got a 2012 lease for Sonta Limited 2/0T w/Nav for $28k.. with 15k/miles yearly --notes $368./month --$16,500 if choose to buy it on back end - 36mnths

Could have bought it for same price also but of course note would have been higher -- it was for company so we leased..
  • madisonvillelamadisonvillela Member Posts: 3
Not sure where you live -- in Louisiana, just got same but With NAV system for $28,200.00 total all ..
originally @ 32,500 -- the brought down to $30,500.00 -- told them wanted to be about $350/month note or a lease (was for our business so didnt really matter to us) -- walked out the door.. Rep called back & said got the deal with lease~~ $3500.00 down & walked with $362/month note..XM , Blue link they had for free also for the first year ...

    Hey Everyone

After several rounds of negotiations for a 2012 Sonata SE with NAV, I was offered a price of 24,950+TTL. Is this a good price? Thanks in advance.

    MSRP= 27,550
    Offered Price= 24,950
    Difference=2600

Looking to purchase tomorrow in the Indianapolis Area. I am torn b/w the SE Turbo vs non Turbo addition. Nav would be nice, but I can do without. What should I look to be paying before TTL? Truecar for a 2.0T SE is around 24,400. Should it be better then that. I was hoping to beat the Truecar price.

    In general what should I pay for a 2012 SE 2.0T and a 2012 SE 2.4?

    Thanks.

If this helps - I have almost always received better quotes(lesser price) from dealers, than the truecar value. The way I would use the truecare value - never pay more than that, but you should almost always be able to beat that value.

I bought a Gray Metallic w/gray interior, 2012 Sonata Turbo SE, demo vehicle with 990 miles for $22,650 + 199 (processing fee) + all weather mats + cargo mat + cargo net + 4 free oil change coupons. Taxes extra which I will have to pay to DMV at registration.
I initially negotiated for a new 2012 Sonata Turbo SE for $ 22,850 on the phone but when I went to the dealer, he actually did not have a new car (surprise surprise !!!) and instead offered me to get one the next day. I did not want to wait and was not sure how long it might take, so negotiated for the demo car (with 990 miles on it) the dealer had on the lot which was offered instead for $200 less and four oil change coupons.
  • jack47jack47 Member Posts: 312
Seems to me you negotiated for a new car and then settled for a used one for the same price.

But I guess you're happy with that.

I went it looking for a 2012 Sonata Limited w/o Nav but decided with Navigation. Harbour Gray. Here is what I got
Limited 2.4L + Nav package + remote start + usual crap of mats, wheel locks

    $26000 + TTL

    $28000 OTD.

Got the 1.9% financing for 4 years.

I hope it's a good deal, less than edmunds TMV and true car. .

For a Limited without nav or turbo, I would go for at most $24000. Then add 1.5-2K for each turbo and nav.

I was offered $20,450+TTL for a GLS automatic with the Popular Equipment Package. Does that sound like a good deal to everyone? That is the best I have been able to do.
  • alphaiitalphaiit Member Posts: 7
    Location?
In the Dallas area - best price that I have seen is 20K + TTL for a GLS automatic with the Popular Equipment Package.

The Sonata is a very popular car. Difficult to get a good deal these days except in major metro highly competitive markets.

Have you tested the Kia Optima? When we couldn't get a decent deal on the Sonata, we took a look when Edmunds tested an Optima EX against the GLS and the Optima was their choice. We drove both many times. Slightly more horsepower, more and upgraded features, equal mpg. Not so many on the road as the Sonata. We got a good (not great) deal on a lease, but maybe in your area you can land a great one on a purchase. You will do much better, pricewise, lease or purchase, on the Optima and get more for your buck.

If you are really set on the Sonata, none of this will matter a hill of beans. But, it is nice to have a fallback position if they are not willing to deal.

Best of luck, whichever you choose. Both are great cars.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Also great deals available now on the 2012 Altima, Fusion, and Malibu as they are being redesigned soon. Not that you would actually buy one of these instead of the Sonata. But you can put pressure on the Hyundai dealer by telling them, for example, "I can get an Altima 2.5S for $XX,XXX--can you meet or beat that?" They hate to lose a sale to a competitor... or think that they will. ;)

Can anyone confirm that the 2012 Sonata Limited Turbo is covered under the 100K warranty?

On March 30th, 2012, I purchased a new white GLS PZEV base with 30 miles for $19k + TTL at Capital Hyundai San Jose. I saw on ebay that they were selling it for $18,800. I paid $200 too much, but that's ok. I got 0.9% APR financing for 36 months which is basically free money.

Just financed a NEW 2012 Sonata Limited w/NAV in the Los Angeles area for $26981 before taxes/license/registration. I got $1900 in incentives - final price of vehicle was $25081.
I also scored the 1.9% APR through Hyundai financing...

Curious to know if I got a good deal...feedback appreciated.
  • vhdonutsvhdonuts Member Posts: 1
I also recently financed a new 2012 Sonata limited WITHOUT Nav in Los Angeles area for 24,000 before tax/title/license. Sticker price was 27,400. 0.9% apr for 36 months. I didn't get any incentives but I think you got a good deal, because I would pay $1,081 more for Nav.
  • needanicecarneedanicecar Member Posts: 10
Great deal. I got the same car for around the same a couple weeks ago in Boston. I only got the $400 rebates and also added remote start. I ended up with 25600 + ttl.

It seems to be the going price for the cars. They are less than TMV and Truecar, I am glad I worked downwards from those "averages". If not you could be paying 1-2K more.
  • addisoncaddisonc Member Posts: 2
Can you guys post the dealership where you got these great deals? IF you don't, you are basically bragging and your information cannot help that much for perspective buyers.

Also, I calculated my invoice with options (white, floor mats, cargo nets, cargo mat, etc..) and it's about $21000. I basically got $2000 below invoice for a base model pzev.

It's a pretty good deal. The 2012 Civic EX is already $19k invoice. and it's heavily underpowered and smaller than the Sonata.
  • acgskiteeacgskitee Member Posts: 2
Great. It's a 2.4L with remote start, NAV Package, wheel locks, cargo mat, all weather floor mats, and some other accessories. I went through carsdirect and they referred me to a dealership. It was the absolute EASIEST car purchase ever. I went in took the offer and finalized all the paperwork. I knew that I qualified for about $1400 in incentives, but the dealership then mentioned that there was another $500 incentive available - making it a total of $1900.

Note: One of the $500 incentives was thru motozuma.com. I recommend it if you are purchasing soon.

Brand new 2012 Sonata SE 2.0T (turbo). MSRP (includes destination and options) was $26,015. Factory invoice was $24,560. Before taxes, tag, and license (no dealer fees) I paid $23,954. They also gave me KBB value on my trade (and the car definitely needed some work) so I was pretty pleased. I really don't think they were going to go any lower. This dealer also offers 3 years free oil changes, free car washes for life, and a lifetime powertrain warranty for the original owner. No pressure dealer and was very patient with me, as I had already put a deposit on a Gensis coupe which they let me take home for 24 hours before deciding.

The dealer was Morries's Hyundia in St Louis Park, Minnesota. Will be giving them my business in the future.

Brand new 2012 Sonata GLS automatic without the popular package. Before TTL and dealer's processing fees, the price is $17500 after $1000 qualified rebates. No trade in. 0% APR for 36 months. The car has only a couple of miles on it. The dealer is super nice. I couldn't ask for a better deal.

msrp on that car is 21570? So you got 3k off sticker (18500 sales price)?
I'd make sure they don't rape you on the dealer processing fee which is negotiable in most states. otherwise that is one unbelievable deal!
  • bkthandribkthandri Member Posts: 2
    That is great price.
I am also looking for 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS
Could you please tell me where you got this deal?

Opinions please, I am looking to purchase a limited 2.0 or 2.4.
Offers I have from dealers (this includes the only incentive I qualify for -500 for the financing)

    limited 2.0
msrp price (not including ttl) diff
    29100 25359 3741
29265 25808 3457 (this is in the color I want)
    ? 25820

    limited 2.4
    27519 23938 3581
    27355 24046 3309
    ? 24200

Question is, with the 2012 model year coming to a close, end of the month, what is a good price point I should be looking for. I am not looking for any of the stupid add ons, just some floor mats and Im good.
Is 25,000 for a 2.0 out of the question, 23500 for a 2.4? I am doing a trade in which hasnt been put into the equation.

    thanks in advance

I would strongly recommend driving the Limited 2.0 vs the 2.4. The 2.0, for me, would be my preference. $25K is doubtful. Probably closer to $25,500-25700.

I would also drive an SE. I thought it had much better handling, but it also had a pretty firm ride.
  • mikenilmikenil Member Posts: 4
I actually have test driven the 2.4 and 2.0T. Not the se. I agree I do like the stiffer handling but really want the limited's features, panaramic, leather, ect. The 2.0 is fun but it is more of a want then a need.

This is my current offer for a 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS in NJ:

Price = $20211.68 (This includes the popular equipment package)
    Sales Tax = $1414.82
    Registration/Title Fee = $313
    Other Fees = $299.00
    NJ Tire Fee = $7.50
    Rebate = -$500.00
Total (Out the Door) = $21746.00

    What do you guys think?
  • pegasus17pegasus17 Member Posts: 536

The "other fee" of 299 is pure dealer pack (add-on, BS) and should be negotiated out of the deal. Otherwise it's decent. Remember tomorrow is the last day of the month and the best day to buy/lease a car!
