2012 Sonata Turbo SE, Sparkling Ruby with black interior, carpeted floor mats, cargo net, and rear spoiler...
Sticker: $25,805 (MSRP before add-ons and delivery: $24,645)
Price before TTL: $22,649 (*included $500 rebate with Hyundai financing)
Price could have been $22,399 but could only find the red with rear spoiler - just paid extra $250 for spoiler, might have been able to negotiate but I'm a total wuss!
0% financing for 3 years
And agree with all the others who recommend going with the 2.0 turbo - love the extra power (originally I was thinking I'd only be happy with a V6, but no worries as I love the Sonata Turbo).
I thought this may help some folks as the posts were very helpful to me when purchasing a Sonata.
2012 SE 2.0T Nav Sunroof floor mats back bumper protector (already on;not my choice!) mud guards dealer added tinted windows
Sticker: $28,635 Price Paid: $25,802 after dealer fees - includes $1,000 in incentives 1.9% for 60 months
I'm pretty excited about this vehicle. I chose it over a 2012 2.5 Passat SEL w/nav and moonroof. The Sonata is much more exciting to drive than the Passat.
This may help. Stopped in dealer tonight and the said that there is only two left in the state(cars.com says otherwise, but information has the possibility of nothing correct). Anyway, your setup is the exact I am looking for...hopefully when they get back with availability, I can haggle some similar pricing.
Most dealers should be willing to dealer trade (with little or no cost) in order to source the vehicle for you as long as it is within a reasonable distance. Perhaps you can work with a couple of Hyundai dealers to see which one will work the hardest for your business!
Dealer: Stan Olsen Hyundai (Omaha, NE) Salesperson: Zach and Mike (Internet Dept.)
Bought a 2012 Sonata GLS in sparkling ruby with PEP, remote start, carpet mats, and cargo net.
MSRP:$22,820 Invoice: $21,961 Selling Price: $21,461 less $500 rebate from Hyundai Finance for a final price of $20,961. Also got 0.9% 48mo promotional financing. Total OTD with TTL and fees: $21,117
Can you tell me if the $500 rebate for Hyundai financing is still available? i checked on Hyundai web-site and it does not show any rebate for financing.
Also, can you tell me the name of the sales agent at Gartner Hyundai. I live in Chicago as well so it will help.
Unfortunately, I still owe the government their piece of the pie! Where I live, we pay 7% sales tax! It did however, include the dealer doc fee. They wanted to charge me $399, however, I negotiated a lower vehicle price because I did not want to pay such a high fee.
Hopefully this helps you out. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
My apologies for the delayed reply. When I did my financing, it was through the month of April. I believe on some of their models, it is now through the month of May, but not sure if 2012 Sonatas are still part of it.
I suggest that you check with your specific dealership. See below.

First off, thanks to the community for providing all the valuable info. I perused this thread for all the pricing info to build my offer
Shout out to Edmunds to please get into the 20th century at least, with the forum software. It stinks!!!
Here is my purchase info for a brand new 2012 2.0T Limited in Midnight Black/Camel
options: Mats, Net, Spoiler, Wheel locks
MSRP = 29420 (incl. destination)
Final price before TTL: 25708 (incl $500 HMF cash back)
Tax is 3% in NC, 399 doc fee and 69 tags
Trade in: 3900 (tried to lowball me with a 2500 offer, walked out and came back a week later)
Final OTD (Eastern NC) : 22,500 (including 500 Motozuma rebate)
Dealer: Lee Hyundai, Fayetteville, NC
I dealt with them on the final OTD price, including trade in. Didn't matter to me how they broke it down. This was the only 2012 2.0T Limited (<100 miles on odometer) I could find in Black/Red/Indigo in a 100 mile radius of where I am. BTW, 2012 has the panoramic sunroof (pretty awesome) which is not standard on 2013
I would stay away from Bob Poynter in Indiana. Feb 2011 we drove from Cincinnati to buy a new '10 elantra as a commuter car. It was pouring sleet and really cold...took delivery outside and in a hurry (2 small kids and I was 6 mos pregnant) we realized 3 months later there is a hair in the paint...not clearcoat. No one will help us. Poynter says they know nothing about it but local dealer said 1/3 of car has been repainted at some point (not since in our possession) and Hyundai also said this voids the warranty on that part of body . WTH we got totally screwed and Poynter has been zero help....seems a bit shifty IMHO.
REF: 8287 Surprised it took you 15 months to gripe about that experience - I'd be super-pi$$ed! Unfortunately, you put yourself in a bad way by doing the delivery under poor circumstances and with little time. It's not easy buying a used car ever. Besides, Clark Howard (consumer warrior) always says that a professional inspection is mandatory for any used car purchase (even when buying so-called certified cars). Sorry to hear about your experience but Poynter will remain on my short list for my next car purchase...
REF: 8286 The doc fee of 499 is a complete ripoff in a state where doc fees are not mandatory. Sadly, it is very common these days as dealers try to make a profit somewhere. It's a good, reliable car so enjoy it...
I guess you didnt read my post- It was a NEW car, a leftover 2010 purchased in Feb 2011 at a good price. We saw the hair 3 months after purchase because of location (near top of car). As far as rush, we were there at least 3 hours even though most paperwork was already handled over phone and fax. So if you look at the actual facts it is pretty shifty IMHO.
Try sending an e-mail to their Internet Mgr as well as the next closest Hyundai dealership . I'm looking for the identical vehicle with the same options except with tan leather and the all weather cargo & floor mats. The sticker price is appox. $29900 and my local dealer is quoting me $28,400 ( a whopping $1,500 off). So, I found a dealer in a neighbonng state about 30 miles away and began a dialogue with their Internet Mgr. He is quoting me $26,249 plus TTL which sounds way too good to be true. I am a month away from making a purchase so, until i actually drive out of the dealership with that price, I'm holding my breath. Would anyone who has just purchased a similar vehicle respond with their deal??
I am getting a quote of $19,584 + TTL (without any incentives, dealer price) for 2012 Sonata GLS automatic in Austin, Texas.
Currently there is a $1500 balloon finance rebate. Together with $500 Motozuma, this seems to be a great price ($2000 in rebates).
I am planning to do a full cash purchase but wanted to check for your experiences with balloon note financing in Texas.
Hyundai Texas Balloon Program: No acquisition fee, No personal property tax, No early termination fee and No pre-payment penalty.
If there is no pre-payment penalty and no early termination fee, then isn't it better for all cash buyers to go through the balloon finance route? Agreed, you pay the first month's payment, but the $1500 rebate is too good to be true for all cash buyers. I use the cash to pay off the balloon note after the first month and end up with close to extra $1200 rebate (~ $325 monthly payment).
Can anyone who has done balloon note financing tell me if I am missing anything here?
I am having a hard time convincing myself if the above arguments are true (it sounds too good to be true, so there must be some catch, right). For users who have bought using cash, has anyone considered the above option? Any pitfalls in this?
I would really appreciate any feedback from forum members about balloon financing. I am planning to buy within the next week and would like to make sure I have covered all angles before going in to the dealer again.
I did the Hyundai balloon deal on a Santa Fe back in 2007. No catch, refinanced it a month later and all was good. An easy way to save another couple grand, with my only "cost" being the time spent refinancing.
2024 Ram 1500 Longhorn, 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, 2019 Ford Mustang GT Premium, 2016 Kia Optima SX, 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
Got price without haggling through their internet instant quote. Another local dealer (Fitzmall) had similar price w/ cheaper doc fee, but this dealer offers free oil changes for life and free VA state inspections. I live close by and this alone is worth at least $100/yr.
Went for an elantra and lease a sonata. 2500 in rebates and less than elantra Got 3 year lease 15,000 per year. Price 229 a month. Is this a good deal?
Residual is 13100. Dealer feels over miles will not be a problem since residual is high for trade-in. Is this true? I believe we would end lead 5- 7000 miles over. He said to trade in before 45000. Anyone have any experience?
Working on a deal for the exact same vehicle only with tan leather. MSRP $30,095. Had 2 dealers working on a quote. Final deal came to $25,750 after the $500 "competitors" discount (expires on May 31). That's $4,300 off of sticker which I think is a really good deal but, if they're willing to sell me the car for that amount, they're making a profit so who knows if i could have gotten them down a little lower?? Heck, I was looking to get a leftover 2012 Ltd. for $24,250 but they couldn't find me one at this late date so, for only $1,500 more, I'm getting a 2013 with nav & back-up camera rather than a "1 year old" one. As long as the car performs as good as it looks, I'll be a happy camper.
Thanks to all who posted in this forum about their buying experiences. Really helped me determine if im getting good deal or not. Just bought 2012 Limited 2.4L with Nav. 25,159 + doc + taxes + registration/plates etc (including 1000 rebates) with 0% for 36 months. Did i get a good deal?
Sounds pretty good to me. I just paid $25, 750 for the 2013 Limited 2.4 with the Nav/panoramic roof option. I think paying only $600 more for a 2013 was a pretty good deal as well. Enjoy.
Wow...that's really great price for 2013. I looked for 2013 for options & color i wanted & there were only 2 in 5 neighboring states with price difference of atleast $1700. Mine was the only 1 for 2012 with options/color i wanted & probably one of the last few built for 2012.
I live in PA and got an internet quote from a dealer in NJ for $26,250. I then went to a local dealer in PA, telling them I had a quote from another dealer and wanted their best offer (I didn't show them the other quote), They came back with $27,150. I then told them what the other offer was and they said they'd match it. These offers did not include the add'l $500 rebate that just expired yesterday. You'll have to see if Hyundai comes out with anything else for June although it's not looking like they will.
REF: 8307 Can you provide the msrp? I assume it's 22.5 or so Good deal except for the optional doc fee of 149 Watch what you wear with that clear bra... :P
I purchased a 2013 White Sonata GLS with the preferred package for $23,000 out the door including tax/license/fees in Orange County, CA. I feel ripped off now since I saw some of you bought the limited for $25
So I am looking for a sonata, for now is the SE. any advice on pricing and what to expect. I currently own a Mazda cx7 GT AWD, so I am going from AWD to fWD. its more a matter of saving gas than liking the car. I love my mazda but I need a car thats more fuel efficient. i am willing to check out NJ if the deal is right
where in PA do you live? I can give you the name of the salesman I used. As for pricing, I would not pay more than 90% of the MSRP on a higher end Sonata but I doubt they're dealing that much off sticker on the base model GLS's. Also, if you're financing the car, they have a special for the month of June (0% financing for 36 months PLUS a $500 cash back). That's a great bonus.
Check with Towne Hyundai in Denville, NJ. Haven't bought a car since '07 but they blew away the CT dealers at the time. '07 Sonata was $5400 under retail before TTL & dealer fees. Almost $4,000 under after those fees & 6% CT sales tax. Several of us bought from them within 6 or 8 months. It was different times but they offered much better prices at the time.
Damn! that sounds like a sweet deal !! I live in the Philly area and am looking for a Sonata Limited without Nav. Which dealer did you buy it from in PA? -- Thanks for sharing!!
Are you looking for a 2012 or 2013??? FYI - the 2012 Ltd. comes with the panoramic sunroof as standard (if you can still find one) while the 2013 Ltd. now comes with just a regular single sunroof. To get the pano roof, you have to purchase the tech package for $2,900 (sticker) which includes the pano roof, navigation, back-up camera and upgraded stereo system. It prices out at about $150 more than the 2012 model with Nav. I don't think it makes a difference what dealership you buy it at. If one dealer (jn my case there were 2 dealers) is willing to sell the car at that price, then other dealers should be able to match it or come close. I got mine at Lehigh Valley Hyundai. You might want to go on your local dealers website and request an internet quote and then take it from there
I'm looking for 2013, and I'm okay without the pano sunroof & tech package. Taking that off your price of 25750 (-2900) = 22850. I think I should target that price. Did you have additional doc. fee or any other processing fee with the dealer ? Thanks for the info, very helpful !!
I was offered a Costco-member price for a 2012 Sonata GLS and it certainly looks good but I did almost no negotiation for this and feel a bit wary. The dealer only has four 2012 GLS left in stock and think that is reason for this deal but want to check these numbers with you guys.
Here's the offer:
$20,704 GLS, PEP, Remote Start, Mats, Net, Dest Fee $250 Advertising Fee -$1,000 Finance Rebate for 0% 36 mo --------------------------------------------- $19,954 Price + TTL
Edmunds TMV Pricing for this is $21,294 not incl rebate. MSRP is $22,820
After sifting through this thread, it seems like people are getting higher models for just a couple thousand more. This is making me second guess what I have.
The last time I bought a car was 12 years ago so I'm not knowledgable with all this. Ideally, I wouldn't buy my Sonata for another 2 months but if this really is a great offer, I will go for it. If it's just an avg offer before the rebate, then I'll wait a few months to buy a 2013 when the timing is better for me or ask for an even lower price. Please help me decide. I will grateful for any advice. Thank you!
Bottom line: The car cost me $21,000, even. Including taxes and whatnot.
Wordy account:
I got a nearly "stripped" 2013 GLS. Of course, even a stripped '13 Sonata comes a ton of comfort and convenience features standard. It's Pacific Blue Pearl (a very dark navy - looks almost like greyish-black, in some light), with beige interior. I thought about the grey interior, but decided I preferred the beige. Which is really a two-tone beige and black interior. Anyway...
My extra cost options were limited to carpeted floor mats ($100), cargo net ($50), mud guards ($95), and all-weather floor mats ($115). I didn't actually ask for anything but the floor mats; the dealer more or less "threw in" the rest.
So no built-in nav, no sunroof, no leather interior, nothing but what I've listed. (And please don't feel too sorry for me; I truly didn't want a sunroof or a leather interior, and while in-dash nav might be nice, both my Garmin 1490 GPS and my Android smart phone are capable of serving as reasonable substitutes. Yeah, I may be cheap, but I'm not exactly roughing it with this car.)
MSRP was $20,895. The added features tacked on another $360. Inland Freight & Handling was $775. Total price: $22,030.
Tax (on the price of the Sonata, minus my trade-in) and tags would have brought the total up to within a stone's throw of $23,000
I got it for $21,000, even. Including options, taxes, tags, delivery charges, administrative charges, adding plutonium to the flux capacitor, EVERYTHING.
Well, I went in and told him I'd buy if and only if he could do $21k on the [FINAL w/EVERYTHING - including taxes and the like] price of the new car, and $8200 trade-in value on my old car.
And technically, he wrote up the Sonata as $22k, but the value of my trade-in as $9200. So it worked out pretty much the way I wanted. If it pleased him to subtract $1000 from one item and add it to the other, so be it. He still hit my price point. And believe me, even $8200 would've been a very generous trade-in value on my battered and weary Toyota Yaris. (You try selling a Yaris with 79k miles on it, that had recently been in an accident necessitating $4000 worth of repairs, which lacked power windows, power door locks, and anti-lock brakes, and with non-working a/c, and you'll appreciate that I got more than a fair trade-in value for my car.)
FWIW, the dealership was Jones Hyundai, over in Bel Air, Maryland. A good friend of mine bought her Elantra there, last year. She's happy with the dealership. I even used the same salesman that she did - Gordy. Gordy was okay; I'd recommend him. And Jones offers free oil changes and unlimited car washes, for life, which is nice. (Also free manicures, from the manicurist who works out of the showroom. Which is a bit weird, and of no real interest to me, but whatever.)
Additionally, they'll pick up my car from my home or office, whenever I schedule a service, leave me with a loaner for the day, then return the car to me at the end of the day and take back the loaner. Anywhere within 50 miles of Bel Air, MD, at no extra charge. So that's nice. (The evil part of me is tempted to move to Delaware, about 49 miles from Bel Air, so the guy from Jones would have to log about 4 hours of drive time, every time I service a lousy oil change.)
I love the car. I think I got a great price on it. And I'm pleased with the dealer and the salesman who sold me the car. So after 2 days, count me happy.

Just bought 2012 Limited 2.4L with Nav.
25,159 + doc + taxes + registration/plates etc (including 1000 rebates) with 0% for 36 months.
Did i get a good deal?
Enjoy.
Can you please tell me what state you are in?
I live in LA and they are quoting me $29,300(out the door) on a 2013
sonata limited with NAV.
Can you please tell me what dealer it was in LA?
I am from LA too and want to buy a sonata ltd with NAV soon.
Your response would be greatly appreciated!
Can you provide the msrp? I assume it's 22.5 or so
Good deal except for the optional doc fee of 149
Watch what you wear with that clear bra... :P
any advice on pricing and what to expect.
I currently own a Mazda cx7 GT AWD, so I am going from AWD to fWD.
its more a matter of saving gas than liking the car. I love my mazda but I need a car thats more fuel efficient.
i am willing to check out NJ if the deal is right
As for pricing, I would not pay more than 90% of the MSRP on a higher end Sonata but I doubt they're dealing that much off sticker on the base model GLS's. Also, if you're financing the car, they have a special for the month of June (0% financing for 36 months PLUS a $500 cash back). That's a great bonus.
I don't think it makes a difference what dealership you buy it at. If one dealer (jn my case there were 2 dealers) is willing to sell the car at that price, then other dealers should be able to match it or come close. I got mine at Lehigh Valley Hyundai.
You might want to go on your local dealers website and request an internet quote and then take it from there
Here's the offer:
$20,704 GLS, PEP, Remote Start, Mats, Net, Dest Fee
$250 Advertising Fee
-$1,000 Finance Rebate for 0% 36 mo
---------------------------------------------
$19,954 Price + TTL
Thank you!
