I have only seen 7 6's. I hate how the state I live in Mazda's are not popular. So many Honda's and Toyota's. I haven't seen one since 2 weeks ago. I went to Philly yeasterday and they had a few billboards with the 6 plastered on it on I-95. Still I saw no 6's. I saw 3 new Accord Sedans. I saw an 03 Accord Sedan pass a second generation Acura Legend. The Legend relased in 1991 looked better than the Accord that just came out. At least the 6 looks better than the late 80/early 90's 626. I saw a 6 once and this kid was driving it. He had to be in his 20's. Sales better be up because I haven't seen any lately and I look. The Sales chart should be out in 2 more weeks for car sales.
Yeah when the Protege Sedan came out in 99 you hardly saw any. About when the first half of 2000 was up you saw some. The Pro 5 has gotten more popular and really wasn't seen on roads when it first came out. The mid-size market is tougher though to penetrate. The Camry/Accord names are hard to compete with.
I saw the yellow yesterday and it's really an eye-catcher. It begs for the spoiler and sport grill in that color.
As for women buying the 6. Like I said before I saw a guy in his 20's drive one and this other guy drive one. I didn't notice the other 5 if they were a woman or a man. Alot of 03 Accords are driven by women.
Once the plant ramps up to full production, the allocation should subside. Unless of course, the 6 becomes a runaway success. I kinda doubt that'll happen though. While a VERY good car, we all know it's aimed at a slightly different group than the Camcorditmas of the world.
Was the target of 80,000 units/year in the US, North America or worldwide? Can't be worldwide.
On the brighter side, I've only seen 2 Mazda 6's on the road here in the northeast - one in CT in white w/ the sport package, and one plain one in silver seen in NH. So, my lapis blue one with the sport package and sport grille will still be plenty unique when it finally arrives.
Edmunds does list TMV at MSRP for this car. And I believe it's only because they're difficult to find with "options".
Sure, the base car comes with tons of great stuff...but a sports package is hard to find. Hence, I'm flying to a dealer 6+ hours from my home. The drive back should be great tho.
I'll share it with you all next week.
Car is M6s with sport, auto, and upgrade stereo. Dark grey metalic with black cloth.
I can't wait.
At least Nissan's trying different styling. Too bad it's mostly ugly (like Cadillac). What are they teaching in car design schools these days?
Of course, they are just kidding.
:-)
I constantly see a yellow non-sport one on the way to work. She obviously works nearby. Yellow is not the best color for non-sport models.
I don't understand this constant refrain of "Mazda isn't marketing it enough", because it seems like I see the TV commercial every two freakin' seconds!
Anyone have the 17 inch tires? What PSI do you run them at?
I'm looking at a 6+ hour drive home after buying. I want the shop to check the tire pressure before I leave to make sure it's not too high (they tend to overfill at the dealers it seems). What is the recommended pressure (on the tire)? and what pressure works best for your M6?
Thanks.
Cookie.
I want to say 32 psi, but I'm not positive.
here's my criticism. mazda has been heavily advertising in newspapers a $249 lease. why would they resort to advertising based on price so soon after the car came out?? makes no sense. at the same time, toyota has a TV ad w/ a bright red camry--it hurts to type this--doing crazy agile maneuvers. viewers and readers come away thinking that the camry is geared to sporty driving and the 6 to budget-savvy consumers. this is nuts. what am i missing??
I'll have to wait to "really" figure out how this car works.
Car buying season is at least a month or two away. The fact that things aren't moving isn't a surprise. Launching a new car in December is odd, and I'm being kind. Fact is, it's also the toughest selling environment anyone has seen in 20 years or more.
The nation is debating about turning Iraq into one big piece of glass and the economy can't decide if it's coming or going. Consumer confidence has finally bit the dust.
With just one of the above conditons, you'd have a fairly decent case for slow sales. With all of this, it's a surprise Alan Greenspan gets out of bed in the morning and that anything is selling at all. With exceedingly few exceptions, NOTHING is flying off the lots or shelves right now.
I have to say (much as I can't stand black cars...too hot) they look nice.
And if so, how well does it sound?
It's not too bad- only noticeable in the reflection- but my virgin car wasn't ready to be assaulted, raped, or disecrated by another careless jerk in this manner. How hard is it to control your door?! I always park well away from people- you'd have to make a conscious effort to ding me. I suspect one of my neighbors since I park in a lot. I'm pissed.
To answer my own question, it's not hard at all to control your door in the Mazda6. Open it half way to the first "notch", and beyond that the door will stay where you leave it. Nice car
Few years back in another forum a woman told the story of walking out of the store and seeing a person leaning on her brand new vehicle to write a check! The owner grabbed her key fob and hit the "panic" button setting off the alarm.
The check writer jumped, then walked away. Didn't even say sorry.
Losers.
I am looking at the six, espeically the 6s. But I cannot get the options the way I want them, which makes me mad as hell. When configured like the Accord EXV6, the 6 either costs a little more or a little less. I really would like a 6s and Altima, along with the Camry SE.
He says that when he and his wife were younger, they were leaving out of a store in St. Louis, and some lady had put her groceries on top of his brand new car. He ask her "What in the world are you doing" She goes "I'm putting my groceries on this car beacause I don't want to strach mine."
Well, after she gets in her car, he takes the buggy and knocks the heck out of the side of her bumper. And she gets out and ask "What are you doing" He goes "Well, I was trying to put my groceries in my car, and I didn't want to bump mine."
I thought it was too funny.
I plan to adjust the rpm a lot as I cruise through the beautiful Columbia River Gorge (so the engine breaks in correctly)... and I bet I'll be adjusting the seat a lot too, so I don't get a stiff back to go with the stiff ride.
She said all she could do was stand there and almost cry. I don't blame her, I probably would have done about the same thing.
Take it easy if possible for the first 1000 miles and vary your speed. Also lower your tire pressure b/c most likely the dealer will give you a car with 40PSI.
Why do they charge for PDI if they can't even check the tire pressure? Audiaq8 or maltb: care to answer?

The last 7 days have been huge for our mazda stores. Not our other brands, just mazda. Tributes and MPV's are flying off the shelves. A week ago we had 30 Tributes in stock and today we have 7. similar numbers with the MPV. I guess there is alot of pent up demand out there. which is great for everyone.
Price IS important, but it often is not the only thing. I have sometimes bought cars from dealers who did not have the best price, but who had by far the most professional and competent service department, who were courteous and cheerful, and who always gave me a loaner when I brought the car in for service. What's important to you?
People who do that kind of stuff are worthless. They should stop experimenting on helpless animals and start experimenting on these folks.
Thanks and enjoy the new wheels.

Sterling family car isn't for everyone
by: Laurance Yap
"The steering is sharp, the suspension motions are controlled with an iron fist, and the brakes are impressively powerful; grip from those huge tires is fantastic"
"Though it lacks a certain amount of subtlety...it isn't like anything else in the class and is built to quality standards that feel more European than Japanese"
Don't know if that's a good thing - Japanese cars are usually more reliable (See News and Views discussion).
"Mazda really nailed the 6, as it is sportier and more engaging than any other mainstream family sedan out there"
"Has Mazda got its mojo back? It sure looks like it from the driver's seat of the 6"
Talk about productivity at work tonite! Typing about the 6 and actually doing work too. I never knew multitasking would be this easy

Some people hate new cars when they can't afford one.
I got the van's license number, description of the people, and put it on the Legend's windshield, saying I would be happy to appear as a witness and gave my phone number. The owner never called.
This is why I love digital cameras small enough to carry with you -- irrefutable evidence of deliberate acts.
What you also have to be careful about is pulling into big parking lots, watch for backup lights coming on, people don't turn around and look before backing up. They use their mirrors. I have been T-boned twice like this.
