In the Canadian model, the power/lighter outlet is right infront of the driver inside a hidden compartment where the gauges would normally be that flips(its relatively big space that fits 2 small waterbottles nicely) open and a GPS unit should fit fine inside.

I'm going to borrow my friends digital camera and try to get in some pics, but the car won't be very clean(it rarely is).

    Folks,

Nissan just officially unveiled the Qashqai "crossover" SUV in Europe. This is the reason we'll never see the X-Trail in the USA--the Qashqai is better-suited for American buying tastes.

Put in the 2.5-liter 175 bhp I-4 from the Altima, JATCO CVT automatic and ALL-MODE 4WD system, and the Qashqai would be Nissan's competitor against the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, something Nissan really needs for the American market.

Well, we rented one in Italy last month and put 1500km on it. Diesel 6 speed with plenty of room for the 4 of us. Plenty of power, too. Fun!!! Would love to have it here in the US. Thanks for your reassurance on the size. marstonb

to attend the wedding of one of my former High School Exchange students. Her dad recently traded in his Nissan Laural (nice car... spent time in it on my last trip there) for a new X-Trail.

It is nicely sized, well equipped, and comfortable. We squeezed 4 adults and two young kids in it for several days driving around town. Our host, a former mechanical engineer, was quite pleased with his new car, and delighted in showing me all around it. In his retirement he heads off to the mountains for overnight fishing trips, folds the seats flat, and sleeps in it.

Our local dealer is clearing the X-Trail inventory as it is being discontinued to make room for the new Rogue later this year. Deals are great, full $6,000 off list, for a loaded Bonavista Edition out the door for $26,847 plus taxes. I'd suggest anyone interested look at Nissan.ca website for further specs etc. on this numbered model. Yes, I said numbered with a plaque, stainless steel door sill plates plus automatic climate control, 17" alloys and much more content than earlier SE models. Nissan produced this model as a final gesture to Canadian buyers as they wrap up a very successful model run. For our American friends, Cape Bonavista is on the north coast of Newfoundland which is our most easterly province. WATERLOO GUY

Nissan will not be selling the new 2008 X Trail in Canada. Us X Trail owners who took a leap of faith and bought the SUV are being abandoned by Nissan for the Rogue-a CRV and Rav4 wannabe.
I hope the Rogue will be a dismal failure and Nissan will then realize that they made yet another marketing blunder.
The X Trail is indeed a unique vehicle; unfortunately I'll never have the opportunity to buy another. I guess Nissan you lost another loyal customer.

Since the first of the year I have contemplated downsizing from my Mercury (it used to be a comfortable and quiet car...bought a 2005...what a dissapointment - noisy, ill fitting and many gremlins...been looking at the Honda Element...also been noticing what goes by,,,here in outskirts of Atlanta I am noticing a substantial downsizing in the SUVs...Jeep seems to be norm...yes, a few bohemiths remain but we are getting noticably more reasonably downsized. I expect as this catches on the even more that reasonably sized will make a large gains. As I said earlier about our rented X-Trail, my wife, 2 grown daughters and luggage were very comfortable and had a great time wandering Italy last October. Someday I hope our EPA gets a grip...Marstonb

New to this message board and have found many useful ideas. I got a quote for a new 2006 Xtrail Bonavista edition for $30,663 taxes included (I live in Ontario Canada). The dealership has a current promotion for the Bonavista for $6000 off the MSRP which is why I think this might be a pretty good deal. Now we haven't gotten to the point of haggling the price which I'm sure I can get it for a bit cheaper but was wondering from anyone out there what their thoughts are on this price. How much more should I haggle for. Thanks in advance.

Check out Nissan X-Trail: Prices Paid & Buying Experiences too (and please post there too if you wind up buying one).

The price is looking pretty well in line but I'd try for a few dealer installed items like rear floor coverings, etc and other things you'll see on the website and see how that flies with your quoted price. By the way an extra key (you get only two) if needed for other drivers costs $127.00 CDN as it's coded to the car's ignition security system. Beware of the glass etching packages ($200 plus)as they are not worth the money. Not sure where you are in Ontaro but worth talking to a few dealers if you can. Good luck, this is a good, proven vehicle which will soon be sold out. Good luck - WATERLOO

    Hey Steve and Tidester -

Now that Nissan USA has got a little teaser info, a video and pics on the new Rogue on their website, how 'bout a Forum for it?

With a 2.5L CVT and a lot of similarities to the new Sentra, it looks to be worth driving. Even up in Idaho.

Peace to you on Memorial Day, all.

We have one discussion over in Future Vehicles:

    2008 Nissan Rogue

As soon as it hits the dealers (I'm guessing it's not at the dealers yet?), we'll move it over to SUVs and add some more discussions about it, like Prices Paid and MPG.
  • ecotrklvrecotrklvr Member Posts: 519
Thanks for the info. I searched under Make and Model, and that doesn't give any listing for Rogue. One more place to look - Future Vehicles.

Perhaps you'll understand my confusion when you think about this: the Scion xD already has a Forum - even though it ain't on the lots yet.

I realize that the xD isn't your forum. Just trying to figure out the Edmunds Way.

I usually use the Browse By Vehicle search on the left but if you limit yourself to that, you'd never find the X-Trail discussion.

I think all the Scion xD discussions are only on the Future Vehicles board too (so far), unless they are linked in more than one place.

Edmunds Way is usually an easy commute but occasionally you wind up on a dead end or a roundabout, lol.

Yikes. To think I laid the groundwork for that...

Roundabout - I though you were in Idaho. Isn't that a Massachusetts thing? Except for Yes fans, of course.

They are starting to show up everywhere - keeps traffic moving and saves gas. But there's only one here at the moment that I know of - another big one is in the works (a 5 way getting converted).

It may wind up like Swindon before it's finished. :P

Has anyone gone through the process of importing an Xtrail to the USA? What's involved? How hard/expensive is it? Where do I get started?
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
There have been several threads dealing with importing the X-Trail in the main Nissan X-Trail (we want it!) discussion. You should have a look at that and use the search feature.

You may also get some good tips in Importing Canadian Vehicles to the U.S..

I've bought a 2006 X Trail and would like to know how the security system works. I'm new to this type of security. The manual isn't much help. Does just locking the door activate it? If someone breaks into the car and hot wires it is the ignition killed?
  • b10609b10609 Member Posts: 37
The X-Trail security system, which is coded to your personal ignition key prevents a thief from hot wiring the ignition as no amount of attacking the column lock & wiring will enable the person to defeat the system. The keys have a chip code that only a Nissan dealer can replace and is the reason why extra keys cost $130 or more for a replacement. Other than having a tow truck lift and carry your car away, you're well protected. The red light on your dash should be flashing at all times to indicate the system is operable, too. If not, see your dealer to check it out - Waterloo Guy

    Thanks. In the meanwhile I visited a Nissan dealer and found out most things. Some things they mentioned;
I had been locking the car by pushing the door button and now know that doesn't turn on the alarm system. You have to use the key or the fob to arm it. Once armed, if someone opens the door, say after smashing the window, the horn alarm will sound. This might prevent someone from stealing stuff you have in the vehicle. The alarm is disarmed when you unlock the door with the fob or your key. This disarming is mechanical not electronic. So if you had a spare key made that didn't have a chip in it you could unlock the car but not start the car.
I think the key and fob should be carried separately. If you have them on the same key chain and you loose it it would be very easy for someone to find and take your car. I never use the fob myself. I guess it is for when your hands are full.

I don´t know if this helps. I drove an X-Trail 2005 bought in Mexico but made in Japan. I was told I can have it titled here in Missouri since It has passed the DEQ controls in two occasions and there is some paper work to fill out if I want to get it done. It is a fuel efficient vehicle, easy to drive but I am not too savvy to get it fixed if something goes wrong. the local Nissan dealer has been able to service but I am not sure they would be able to fix a major problem. I have considered to sell it here if I get through the process. I was also considering taking it back to Mexico if the title or the sale won´t work. I came to the US a year ago in June 2008, so, it is in almost mint condition.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Nissan sold the X-Trail in Canada for a while too, but dumped it in '08 for the Rogue. That may help you get it titled since most Canadian vehicles can be imported to the US.
