received the following price quote and would appreciate advice on how I should negotiate from here.

    26,204 - base invoice
    625 - destination fee
    134 - Aluminum kickplates
    106 - splashguard
    132 - floormats
    108 - emergency aid kit
    399 - spoiler
    400 - driver fee
    150 - doc fee
    25.50 - title
    1,836.77 - tax

    30120.27 total price

The dealer says the emergency aid kit, the splashguards and kickplates are non-removable. I did not necessarily want these items. They had to locate the car at another dealership and say the $400 driver fee is non-negotiable. I also believe the spoiler invoice is $270 and they have it marked to $399.

What would be a decent price? I dont need the absolute lowest price, but I want to be sure I am getting a fair deal. Any help would be appreciated.

I would think you could get this car for $28K on the road. ANYTIME a dealer says not negotiable, they are lying to you. EVEYTHING is negotiable if they want to sell a car. My dealer tried the same thing and when I walked, they came down on everything to sell me the car. My '07 3.5SE had a window sticker of $30,650 plus, plus, plus, and I drove away at $28,200 in March '07. You will love this car, and the CVT tranny! Good luck and enjoy!

Saturday, 12/8/07 I puschased a 08 Altima 2.5 S withe the SL package. I really like the car, but was subject to a delibert defrauduant scam. I was quoted a ytade in price of $7500 for my trade, which was a fair. However, on the the contract it I was only allowed $6000. The amount of $6000 was never discussed with me or even mentioned. Needless to say I was stupid for not seeing this on the sales contract at the time. I did not notice the difference until later that evening. I figured it was a honest mistake or miscoomunication between sales and finance. When I contacted MIDWAY NISSAN OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA, they said too bad I signed the contract. They did not disput the fact that the figure of $6000 was never discussed. They tried to tell a bunch of BS instead. I soon realized that this was set up from the word go. I am upset with myself for not seeing it. However I feel they were not hoest and straight forward with me at the time. Any way if you are in the Pheonix Arizona area and in the market for a car do me and yourself a favor by staying away from the whole MIDWAY AUTO GROUP, NISSAN, GM, AND OTHERS. They practice some very unethical, deseptive, swindiling, scamming business practices. Do not believe any word that come out of any one of thier mouths.

wburbank, you don't need to feel bad if the diff. between the new car and trade in is the same. If you really paid 2K more than you suppose to pay I don't know why you didn't notice that.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,771
what gooddeal is essentially saying is that its the difference that matters. Sometimes dealerships change specific numbers on a contract, but the difference remains the same, so it doesn't affect you. In other words, if you agreed on $23,500 for the new car and $7500 for your trade, they may write $6k for your trade on the contract, but also write $22k for the new car. So, in either case, you are paying a $16k difference. Is this possibly what happened here?

If not, please explain in more detail what happened so others may learn from it. Were you shopping payment only, perhaps? And since the payment is what you discussed on the sales floor, you didn't check the other numbers?

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

This site has been very helpful for me, and I wanted to share my experience:

Bought a 2.5S sedan with Convenience package (plus mats, emergency aid kit, kick plates and splash guards) in Upstate NY area. MSRP was 22,875 and invoice price was 21,314. I ended up paying 20,814 + taxes + 300 fees, with 2.9% financing. No surprises or extra fees were attempted, everything went smoothly.

Mainly negotiated over the internet (Edmunds price quote) - narrowed it down to 2 dealers and negotiated. The other dealer was willing to go lower on price, but I went with the one who seemed more straightforward and was comfortable to deal with.

Just got a quote from the dealer for the basic 2.5L 4cyl CVT. The OTD price is $20,940.00. The price also includes a $750 rebate. Is it a good one?

I wanted to get yalls opinions on a price quote. Let me know if its a good deal or if I can bargain it down some more.

    2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL
    Technology Package
    VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control)
    Floor mats
    Kick Plates
    Splash Guard
    Spoiler

    Msrp $32655
    Sales Price with rebate $29208. - $750 rebate = $28458 +ttl
$30,494 out the door. Houston, TX
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Any way you could tell us the price for the car instead of the whole thing? That might reveal what kind of a deal you got more so than just saying the OTD price. But on the whole, it looks like an excellent price, but I can't be certain.
  • shuangmingshuangming Member Posts: 2
Thanks for your reply. I list the detailed info as below:

2008 Altima, 2.5L 4cyl CVT model with no other options

    MSRP of $21380
    invoice of $20055
    There is a $750 rebate (or 1.9%APR).

The final OTD price is $20508.73, which includes

    sales tax, 3.2% in VA
    title, tags $60
    processing fee $399

I must report that after several phone calls and discussions with the sales manager and general manager, finally have made good on the original offer. They did not want to do it. However they saw the light when I showed them a print out of what I was willing to put on the internet about the deal. I am now satisfied. With that $1500.00 I got a fantastic deal.

08 Altima 2.5 SL, Winter Frost, SL package, kick plates, carpet mats, emerg. kit, mud guards, wind deflector on moon roof, paint protection, tinted windows, side molding, spoiler, ect. $22,900.00 + destination charge - ($7,500,00 + $3,000.00 = $12,400.00). The extra $3000. is another story, but in my favor.

Just read and check then double check all the figures on your contract. Go in with your financing in place (it could save you $$$$ and about 2 1/2 hrs of time and double talk.) Shop for bids on the car you want. Do not feel shy or sorry for any dealership. Compare apples to apples.

Good luck and Merry Christmas to all who read this.

It is a great little car and un to drive. On a extended trip to Calif. as I post this.

Does anybody know what Nissan's holdback is for the Altima?
  • acemkacemk Member Posts: 6
About week ago, I was in the market for a Altima but instead I chose to go with Honda Accord. But here's what I got from one of dealers in Maryland.....

    Altima 2.5S Coupe w/auto
    con. pkg. / tech. pkg
    wheel locks / mud guard
    msrp:$29,200.00 including fright
Selling price: $23,748.00 + dest. charge + $99 dealer processing fee + md sales
    tax/tag

I found it to be very very great deal, anyone needs info. about that dealership, let me know
  • acemkacemk Member Posts: 6
"let us know when/where we can get the '08 Altima w/ 5K off".

Yes, you can find a dealer in Maryland discounting Nissan Altima from $4000.00
    to $5500.00. It happened to me....About $5000.00 off msrp.:shades:
  • nissaltnissalt Member Posts: 1
    Hi acemk,

Please let me know the name of dealership offering Altima with 5K off I am planning to buy this weekend.

    Thanks.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
5K off on a LOADED model might be possible right now because of the new incentive but I doubt you can get that on the base model 2.5S w/ CVT. If you can get 5K off on the base model, your price will be 16K + TTL.

got quote 2008 2.5s cvt convenience plus package with splash gurads and mats for $ 20948 plus taxes and fees $ 22488.34 drive out in Houston Tx
is this a good deal or I can do better thank you for your in put
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
It's a very good deal; I have quotes for the 2.5S with Convenience Package (not the Plus package) in the $20,700-$20,900 range, although I plan on bargaining down the first quote to $20,200 or $20,400ish, and then closing the deal there.

I'd jump on that $20,948 with the Convenience Plus Package.

Good day, everyone. I'm in the market for a new car and was really impressed with the Altima S Coupe. Test drove one this evening and the dealer and I talked some numbers. At first they were very reluctant to budge below MSRP but saw I was serious and then seemed more willing to go lower. Upon leaving they basically asked me to give them numbers I'm comfortable with and make an offer when ready to sign.

How reasonable is it to offer invoice, especially since they charge a $599 dealer fee (in addition to the destination and delivery added by the factory to the base price)?
Or is less than invoice reasonable? This car is in demand right now, but I want to get the best price possible.

    Any advice appreciated!

    Thank you.

I got my Altima Coupe 2.5 CVT with Conv Package and Kickplates in mid-Dec for $50 UNDER invoice. OTD added tax plus $228 in total fees. No trade. (Details in msg 1400.)

I was surprized they accepted a below invoice offer, but the internet manager didn't hesitate.

In Texas, the doc fee is capped at $50. Any dealer that wants $599 in extra fees is just taking extra profit.

I would offer Invoice plus taxes plus $250 in total fees. This is a fair price. Offer that price to your preferred dealer. If they don't take it, then tell them you will be making the same offer to all regional dealers and first to accept it gets the deal. This way, the dealer isn't negotiating with you on price, they are negotiating against the other delears on a price that is fair.

    Hello Keikoe55,

Could you tell me which dealership in Houston did you get the price out of $22,488.34? Does this price include the $750 rebate? Thanks.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
    Sounds good.
My goal this weekend is to get a 2.5S with Convenience Package, Floor mats, and splash guards for $19,900-$20,400 (somewhere between there). I'm hoping to get the all weather mats tossed in too.

So my price target is in the same range as yours; maybe I could get oil changes tossed in too.

At those prices, though, according to my calculations, the dealer loses money. Does anybody know if Nissan is giving dealers extra kickbacks to move Altimas?

2008 Altima 2.5 with SL package for 21750 in NJ

Which dealer? How much the doc fee? What is total OTD?
  • vvoitovvoito Member Posts: 4
This site helped me get the deal I did today, so let me share this with you folks. Purchased Altima today, 2.5 S with SL package, kick plates, mats, splash guards, emergency package, window tinting. After negotiating online with a few dealers, the final price was $22.5 + TTL (not including the $750 rebate - went with financing). The invoice is $23,900+tint, so I got about $1.5k off invoice.
    Happy New Year everyone!
  • talonesitalonesi Member Posts: 3
Is anyone willing to post dealer names where they are purchasing these vechicles under invoice, without the rebates?
  • vvoitovvoito Member Posts: 4
Sure. This one was with Sterling McCall in the Houston area. I also got offers below invoice from other dealers in the Houston area - you just need to know your numbers and spend a little time negotiating with a few dealers (primarily via email, in my case).
  • talonesitalonesi Member Posts: 3
Thanks, I know my numbers and have tried negotiating online and in person. I haven't been able to get the dealer to go more than a couple hundred under invoice before rebates.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
    Completed my deal today.

took delivery of a Precision Grey/Frost 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5S with:
    Convenience Package
    Splash Guards
    Floor & Trunk Mats
    MSRP of $22,565

Purchased it for $20,192.78 at Nissan of Rivergate in Madison, TN before taxes, title, and registration. I took the 1.9% APR financing for 36 months from Nissan in lieu of the $750 cash back.

Negotiation process was fine; once finished, transaction was smooth and fast. Dealer did not charge a document fee.

All in all, 1 very happy new Nissan Altima owner :shades:

I called into Universal Nissan today in LA
Got a price quote for a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5s with Conv. package for
$21,978 out the door. This includes the $750 rebate. This seems like a good deal, can anyone verify if this is a good deal?

Would like to share some info on a purchase in Central NJ that is hopefully helpful. After reading some earlier posts and what appear to be incredible deals, perhaps some contributors may be mixing up model info? For clarity, I have included details of included options.
Also, we only considered the 4-cyl models.
Overall, most dealers in this area were easy to deal with via e-mail. Price quotes came in within a few hundred dollars. As a general rule (for any model) based on the info that dealer holdback for Nissan is 2% (source: Edmunds), I figured a quote of ~2% below invoice (w/o other discounts) to be reasonable, considering that dealers also need to make some profit. I did not try to squeeze out the last dollar.
Here are the best price quotes I got:
    2.5 S CVT+ Conv plus MSRP $24075, Inv $22349 Offer $21750*
    (Options: F02, F10, L93, B10, A92 + Dest)
    2.5 S SL + Connection MSRP $26675 Inv $24771 Offer $24150*
    (Options G01, H01, A92, K92, L93, B10, P93+dest)
*Offer included a 5-y 2.99% finance option which is a good one for a '08 vehicle. It does not include an additional $750 available (2 Jan) for buyer financing or cash deals. Tax (7% NJ) Title ($265 NJ 4-y), doc fee ($129), tire tax ($7.50) extra.
The above (lowest) offers were from Pine Belt Nissan Keyport who have a huge inventory, and one can usually get ones choice of color etc. We have purchased previously and have good purchase and service experience with Pine Belt. E-mail me via member link if you need the (good) salesperson name (not allowed to post).
Also recommended are Sansone and Windsor Nissan. They came close and may match. Windsor also offers multiple brands (Chevy, Saturn, etc.).
    Hope this helps.

I am looking to purchase a Nissan in the Washington, DC area. I would like the 2.5 SL model with the emergency kit, splash guards, and floor mats. Could anyone tell me what price I should ask for if the MSRP price is $25,505? (Also, I am a recent College Graduate)

BTW, I know I may sound a little to eager but I am interested in purchasing at the end of February.

There is a 1000 rebate in my area right now(ny) so I'll assume you get the same. Grad gets you another 500. So if you are not Financing or Leasing through NMAC you should offer 21000.... And pay no more than 22000 in my opinion.
    Good luck! :)
  • dgarwa11dgarwa11 Member Posts: 2
Grad cash requires financing through NMAC.

can anyone tell me whether 23734 is a good price too settle on for the 2.5 altima SL with connection package(xm radio and bluetooth). They said the invoice price is 24734 and after a rebate from Nissan I will be at 23734+ttl.CAn i get a better deal if I look elsewhere in the Houston area??
  • dgarwa11dgarwa11 Member Posts: 2
Invoice on that car is a great deal in my area (Columbus, Ohio) but unless you are paying cash you should forgo the rebate and take NMAC's 2.9% x 60 months.
  • strikemanstrikeman Member Posts: 18
In Austin area went to Town North & South Point dealerships. Bought from South Point. Final price for a '08 Altima 2.5S with Auto with Convinience package: $19000 + TTL (about $1400). Invoice on the car is: $19460 so I pretty much paid invoice (see below).

    1) $19000 + TTL included Delivery and $750 year end rebate + $500 recent grad disc (good for people graduating soon or graduated in last 2 yrs). A bit more negotiating & I could have got it for a bit less but we were in a hurry. ALso, the rebate is now $1000 I think ...

    2) South Point was great experience. Went in with Phone quotes from Town North & Round Rock Nissan, they beat them. Great salesperson, very friendly, took time to go over all features of the car & educated us on the features even before we started with the negotiating.

    3) South Point did have a $1200 "security package" on all their cars for BS like etching & stuff. I said flat out I wasnt going to pay for them. They never included that amt in the numbers.

    4) TX law limits doc fees to $50 but that is not mandatory - you can fight the dealer on it. South Point also added about $100 in "Inventory Tax" (again not mandatory according to paperwork. I didnt fight that $150 though because both me & my wife wanted to drive out in the car, loved the car, wanted to keep a relationship with the dealer & needed a car to go on vacation in the next day. Also the salesperson was great and we were flat out tired by the purchase process.

    5) We ended up buying the Altima even though it was about $2k more than the american cars we were looking at. We felt the quality, interior & resale value were worth the extra $2k. Anyone interested in an american car though & open to American should look at the Saturn Aura. We were getting an '08 Aura XE 4 cyld with power driver seat & alloy wheels for $17k + TTL ($21k MSRP) - great value, great looking car, fantastic, friendly experience at Saturn of Austin. We didnt go for it because we are import buyers and the quality of the car didnt seem upto Nissan standard yet. but next time I am in the market, I think GM would have caught up on the quality.

    6) U lose the $750 rebate if u go with the low Nissan financing but their financing was 2.9% for 60 months. That definately took the edge of the extra $2k over the american cars.
  • strikemanstrikeman Member Posts: 18
kirzill, I am in Austin, TX so there might be a regional diff. ALso, you didnt say whether the car is Auto/CVT or Manual.

I bought a new '08 Altima 2.5S with CVT with COnvinience package in Sonoma SUnset (Red) for $19000 (incl the $750 rebate) + $1400 odd in TTL & fees = $20400. My price did include the $500 recent grad disc though (people close to graduation or who graduated within last 2 yrs are eligible). Also, the rebate seems to be $1000 on the '08s now. I think Nissan increased it. Look at this forum to see if people are getting it for invoice (or a little less) in LA area & check edmunds for the rebate amt. If the $1000 rebate is there & u r not a recent grad I would ask for $20500 OTD & settle for $20900.

Also, unless u r paying cash, ull probably do better w/o the rebate but with the 1.9% - 2.9% financing from Nissan on a monthly basis.
  • hackdhackd Member Posts: 65
The invoice on that car shows 20,928 but you have listed as 19,460? Where are you getting that invoice price from...my number is from Edmunds? I am looking at a similarly equipped car so I am curious as price seems extremely low even with extra college grad rebate.
