to roadrunner, the trailer has an 8 pin plug(don't know why). Nissan used the trailer specs to decide which wires needed connecting and left the others unused. Does your trailer have its own brakes? Ours doesn't but the dealer told us that they would not have installed a flat 4 pin if the trailer had brakes. Aren't the 4 wires for 1.brake lights 2.left turn signal 3.right turn signal 4.running lights? Isn't the fifth wire for trailer brakes? Either way, we nagged our dealer into figuring it all out so we wouldn't have to! The dealer installed hitch was $700cdn. For that price, the dealer can have the headaches.

DWeiser what are you doing in the lincon aviator boards? : )~

Had 3 encounters today on my MnM (murano in motion). I had to give guided tours... That makes about 12 in 2 wks Might have an influx running around town if my own excitement carried over. : )

The Lincoln Aviator was one of the cars on my list as was the Porsche Cayenne. I even drove the Aviator but then drove the Murano (same dealer) and much preferred the Murano. The fact that it costs $15,000 less and gets better gas mileage was just icing!
I went over to the Aviator folks to snoop around but ending up stirring things up, think I did a pretty good job of it too!
There REALLY are people over there posting about what kind of "fur" they're putting on their Aviator dashboards!
It made me even more positive that I bought the "correct" vehicle, for me!
I merely mentioned on the Aviator Board that, around here, Aviators were the choice of the NFL, NBA, and crack dealers before they got rich enough to buy their Cadillac Escalades. I didn't win many friends over there, strange huh?
I was to the hardware store this morning and the Murano drew an approving inquisitive crowd.
  • orangelebaronorangelebaron Member Posts: 435
I was just in South Beach unfortunately at the same time as Spring Break. The streets were trolling with many Escalades, Hummers and their like with get this...
giant low profile tires (maybe 24"?) with no less than chrome wheels. The people driving them were not very classy though.

Anyway... I see ads for Muranos now starting at about $24,000. I thought the cheapest was $28,000. Has Nissan dropped their invoice?
  • roadrunner70roadrunner70 Member Posts: 241
to brelan, all trailers have brake lights, and four wires is standard. the fifth wire is to lock out the brakes (disc) when backing up when surge brakes are being used. personally, being a u of o grad and having canada as my second adopted home, i still wouldn't pay 700 can for what was done. of course. if it works, and zero hassle, it may be worth it. eventually, i'll get the harness i need. in the meantime, the ball mount protects the rear of the vehicle. thanks. for the reply.
  • orangelebaronorangelebaron Member Posts: 435
The ads that show a Murano for as low as $24,000 have a major catch! The invoice for a BASE Murano is about $25900. In order to get that price you must finance at least 90% for 60 months at 9.9% interest.
That $24,000 Murano becomes $29,972...not counting tax. The ad mentions you need a credit score of at least 750. That's pretty funny... would a person with a high credit score be desperate for a high interest rate? Imagine the rate for a low credit score! I guess some people want a new car so bad they don't care what they spend.

After cutting short (by 6 months) my lease of a 2000 Max SE because of an ever growing number of problems I have decided to give Nissan one more chance and have leased a Murano SL (with sunroof). I have liked this SUV from the first time I saw it and one test drive turned me into an owner.

For those Canadians who have been asking for details on Canadian purchases/leases I leased the car for 48 months with 24,000km (16,000 miles) per year. My total down was $2200 and my monthly payment is $540CA + tax. The $2200 is all that I put down and includes everything (first monthly payment, freight, pdi and all taxes). As far as I can tell my purchase price was $38,500CA or about $2000 below MSRP. Not a great deal but the dealership where I bought the Murano appears to be selling all the SLs they can get. They do have 5 or 6 SEs on the lot though.

Any one know the Murrano heater seat heat both back and seat? Can the keyfob open both the windows at front. If do anyone know how? because I never open the windows. one day when I return to my park car. both front windows are down all the way. don't know why.
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
Only the front seats in the Murano are heated. Yes, I believe that the keyfob can be used to open both the front windows.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
Page 3-7 of your owner's manual.

    Opening the front window
Push the UNLOCK button on the keyfob.
The driver ’s door will unlock.
Continue to press the UNLOCK button for 3
seconds. The driver ’s and front passenger ’s
    windows will be lowered.
Continue to press the UNLOCK button until
    windows are fully open.
To stop lowering the windows, release the UN-
    LOCK button.
To start lowering the windows, press the UN-
LOCK button again for 3 more seconds.
This function will operate after the ignition switch
is off and 45 seconds passed or either the front
    door is opened.

I think Email was wondering if the front seats are heated on the seat bottom as well as the seat back. Some cars work that way, some don't.

Both the seat bottoms and backs are heated... and quite well I might add.

The high setting gets so warm you usually have to cut them off after a couple minutes :)

You mentioned you had a bumper guard put on. Front or back? I want to get one for the back before the paint gets scratched. Would like side mouldings as well.
I don't think either is offered yet?
Anyway...I just got a new SL AWD premium tonight!
Copper with black leather. I wanted cabernet, but none available with copper. I wanted 2WD but they found an AWD and didn't want extra money. Got a decent deal, I think.
  • gust334gust334 Member Posts: 75
As an added bonus, your AWD will operate as a 2WD most of the time, switching to AWD only when slippage occurs! :-)

Congrats and welcome. I've seen a rear bumper guard that protects the upper outer edge of the bumper at the liftgate available as an accessory. Search the Murano-related boards here for copious discussion of side-moulding options, it is a recurring topic.
  • orangelebaronorangelebaron Member Posts: 435
I just want to warn everyone NOT to force close the hood with the palm of your hand by the bulge in the center. Close it by pushing down with finger tips from the time it's all the way up.
I didn't damage my car... but the Muranos I saw in two showrooms had dents right in the front center of the hoods.
I am going to put a big warning sticker under the hood so hopefully heavy handed mechanics don't damage my car!

An alternative to installing side molding might be to have 3M protective film material horizontally installed in a stripe on the doors and the door edges.

I like and have tested the SL AWD, but can't decide if here in Florida it's worth the extra money over the 2WD - opinions?

How about the SL Premium package - worth the $$?

Also, can you save on sales tax by buying out of state?

Anyone found a good deal in FL?

    Thanks!
  • orangelebaronorangelebaron Member Posts: 435
Hhhhhmmmm....I would need about 100 layers of 3M strips to be as thick as a moulding!

    Next....
If you want the Premium features.... then don't pay much more than invoice and enjoy!
Uuuuuummmm.... don't people usually pay tax where the car is registered??? Otherwise everyone would buy a car in Delaware!
  • jnandresjnandres Member Posts: 2
So my 1st assumption is that the shift lever is completely programable. If thats the case, I think as an owner, that I would like the Drive selection to give me the best possible mileage...no drag if the accelerator is released...etc. Then program S (sport or 2nd) for something between the present D and S complete with the drag "feature".
Any chance Nissan will create a new program like that to deliver 20mpg in the city like they could and who knows what on the hwy?

Is the Murano have a Satelite radio?? I press the SAT button but it display "no SAT" ??? do I need to subscribe to it or what?? does anyone know what this SAT button is for??
    Thanks
  • gust334gust334 Member Posts: 75
jnandres, there are no user-adjustable settings right now. There are some settings that a dealer can change, including a setting that goes +/- 2 for the CVT. However, the service manual doesn't indicate what those settings actually do, and cautions the dealer to leave it set at the factory default or else the CVT will not function correctly. So, it is a bit of a reach to assume that it is adjusting drag or something that a user might want... it is just as likely to be a test mode for use on a factory fixture. Somebody who has some inside knowledge would need to share it....
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
is not available on 2003 Muranos despite what the radio button labeled SAT would lead you to believe. It is also not available as a dealer add on at this time. Rumors exist that Nissan will eventually do something about this but hasn't yet and may not.

If you don't know anything about satellite radio, check out XM satellite radio on the internet.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
XM & Sirius Satellite Radio has some info too.

We are contemplating the SL Murano AWD. Does anybody have have inputs on likes or dislikes on this vehicle.
  • dweiserdweiser Member Posts: 288
I've owned an AWD SL Murano since 2/1/03 with everything except Navigation and I like everything about it including sitting up high(er).
I make excuses to hop in it and go somewhere so I'm very happy with it. If you're a big family, it lacks the 3rd row of seats. I guess the view out the back could be greater but it hasn't proved to be a problem for me but then I don't do a lot of lane changes living in the mountains I'm on country roads mostly. Gas mileage could be better and it is improving but 17 to 18 m.p.g. isn't bad on the roads I travel.
    Hope this helped.
Oh, previous car was 2002 Subaru WRX and Outbacks before that.

I've owned a Murano since New Years Eve and just love it. I just found these boards tonight and have spent quite a bit of time reading them. I quite honestly can't comprehend why people say there is little cargo space. Do these people own a Murano, placed anything in the cargo area? Or are they just going by what they've seen in a picture? I am a mom with 4 and 6 year old girls. I fit everything and anything I need in the back, on a recent trip to the park there was a medium size cooler, a tricycle, a razor scooter plus a duffle bag full of sand toys. Everything fits perfectly. I used to have a 2000 Tahoe Limited (no third seat) and would have everything rolling around. In comparing the two I'd say the Murano is just 2 feet short of the Tahoe space.... and no, I don't miss having to climb into the Tahoe to grab the milk jug that slid to the back of the 2nd seat... or taking the broom handle to nudge it closer to my reach! .... by the way, what's with the "no head room in a Murano?" I'm 5'9", husband is 6' we both fit comfortable with plenty of headroom.

I really appreciate the information that was supplied to me in such a short time frame. With you help, I am happy to let you know that we purchased our 2003 Murano SL last night. I would be happy to share any information with others.

I have a dealer locally who is willing to sell me an SL 2WD with the SL premium package, cargo and floor mats for about $500 under invoice. With taxes and destination fee, I anticipate this coming in around $28,500. I have been thinking I wanted the AWD (lots of rain here in FL) but that sounds like a pretty good deal. Opinions?
  • gust334gust334 Member Posts: 75
US fog lights only go on when the low beam headlights are also on.

If you turn on the hi beams, fog lights go off.

If you turn off the low beams (e.g. parking/marker lights only) the fog lights go off.

I just traded in my 2001 BMW 325i for a new Murano SL. Loved my bimmer but it was time for a vehicle with more utility and this past winter I was forced to leave my 325i parked for a few days at a time due to all the snow. I pick up the Murano tomorrow and my daughter (4 years old) is thrilled, she can now bring all her toys and bikes wherever we go and now she will be able to see better once she is sitting up high. The only options I wished I could get on my SL are Xenons and leather, both these only come as standard features on the SE. Only options available on the SL in Canada are Sun roof and pearl white paint. Looking forward to the extra space and losing no performance (aside from cornering) I guess I should change my nicname now!

my parents just bought a murano a couple of months ago at my persuasion (i love nissans) and i think as do they, that its absolutely fantastic. very room for 5, nice interior finish, smooth and comfortable ride. people say that there is a blind spot, and it is intimidating at first, but the mirrors are very helpful, and even my mom (who is not the world's greatest driver thats for sure) feels comfortable with using the mirrors to check next to and behind her. if you are looking for a vehicle to tote around 6+ passengers and HUGE items, murano isnt what you need, however if you want a roomier sports car that has extra cargo capabilities, the murano is it! plenty of power, smooth transmission, its like a sports sedan but higher up IMO.

    hope this helped!

In doing a minimal amount of research, it appears that there are no winter rated tires to fit the Murano. Comments from anyone?

Hello everyone. Just wanted to let you know that we ordered and installed the rear bumper protector for my Murano. From previous experience on a Lexus RX300, this bumper would have gotten scratched if not protected. It was well worth the $30.00.
  • xixisisixixisisi Member Posts: 17
I realy like to know what kind of protector you got, what's the brand? where to buy? is it easy to install? Thanks,
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
Your correct, it doesn't appear that any manufacturers make winter or snow tires in 18" diameters.

Not a big issue for me as I'll be purchasing a set of 17" steel wheels to mount my snow tires on. I hate the idea of having those nice stock wheels getting all pitted up driving in snow and salt.

I believe the 17" snow tires and steel wheels will actually cost me less than what 18" snow tires alone would cost when they are eventually
    introduced.

The added benefit is of course less wear and tear on the nice stock wheels and the tires as they don't need to be mounted and dismounted from the wheels twice a year.

Not a big deal in my book.
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
Just make sure that 17" rims will fit on the Murano. I was washing mine tonight for the first time and noticed that there isn't much space between the rims and the brakes on the front wheels. There is more than enough space on the back but the rotors on the front of the Murano are hugh. I couldn't fit my fingers between the rims and the calipers in the front. 16" would definately be too small. 17" might fit though.

Here is what i am about to buy. SE AWD with Popular pkg/ Cold Pkg/ Dynamic Control Pkg/ Navigation system.
Basically thats all the options that are available from nissan. The invoice sticker price on nissan's website and on the dealer sticker comes to $38,063 w/ splash gaurds/ floor mats. BUt I have gotten the price down to 32-33 so far. Looking to close it t 31.5 or so.

Drove the lexus/ highlander several times and also have friend with the MDX but this one makes more sense. (i am a tad bit partial to nissan maxima) But I am partial to particaular models not makes. Although I am not a huge fan of the new max. I like the interior of the G35 over the max and the Rear wheel drive of the G35 felt better to me.
  • 92drexel92drexel Member Posts: 153
That's really ambitious. I think a fully loaded AWD SE invoices at around $34.6k, so if the dealer's in the $32 to $33 range then that's a tremendous offer (I'd snatch that up, esp if he's closer to $32k).

What dealer is this? A friend of mine is shopping for a Murano and I'll definately send them there.

    Thanks
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
If you are in a place that doesn't get a lot of snow look at the FX too, especially if you like the feel of RWD. You won't go wrong with the Murano or FX though. The Lexus and Higlander feel like couches on wheels compared to the nissan/infiniti vehicles. The MDX is a good vehicle and I may still get one for my wife but it does not have the curb appeal or performance the FX and Murano have.
  • smokerisersmokeriser Member Posts: 14
You can order the rear bumper protector at the "courtesyparts" dot com. It was very easy to install and it will save $$ down the road.
  • ragtan1ragtan1 Member Posts: 1
That is an excellent price if you can get it.

I am looking to buy a Murano and would appreciate
the name/location of the dealer who is willing
to negotiate at or below invoice.

     thanks

My "Service Engine Soon Light" is on. I suspect this is caused by a loose gas cap, since it came on the day after I fueled up.

Here's a question for the people with a Service Manual: is there a way to get the diagnostic trouble code and / or reset the light without plugging in a computer? I used to be able to do so with my Maxima. Really nice feature because I can find out what's wrong before bringing the car in for service.

    Thanks.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
Since your still your under the B2B warranty, take it to the dealer. Why mess with it?
  • bcyimbcyim Member Posts: 10
First of all, it's a hassel. Second, I've already talked to the service department. If indeed the light is due to a loose gas cap, warranty will NOT conver the service charge to reset the light, because this is solely due to user error an not mechanical or material failure. At least that's what they say.

Moreover, down the road I would love to be able to grab the trouble code myself to see what's wrong before bringing it in for service. This way I won't be jerked around by dishonest service departments/mechanics.
  • lmp180psulmp180psu Member Posts: 399
If you have an Autozone store in your area, they do CEL code checks for FREE, without having to buy anything. It will only take a few minutes, and at least you will know if it is just the gas cap, or something more serious.
