I think what you are seeing are the features of Toyota's regional distributors. Some outfit the cars with extra stuff at the port. I hear the Gulf States region is the worst.

As regards invoice, I thought that Edmund's invoice for the car did not include regional destination or advertising fees. That $14,583 is the same I see for Edmund's invoice in my central virginia area.

$576 regional fee sounds typical for the Toyota way of business. I have no idea if any of it makes it back to the dealer. From what I have read about it here is that it is just additional cost passed on by the dealer to the customer.

I have just purchased a 2004 Corolla LE in South Florida over the labor day weekend with:

    * automatic
    * sunroof
    * audio/cassette/cd player combo with 6 speakers
    * carpet mats
    * cruise control
    * impulse red color

    Out of the door price: $16,200! (MSRP was $17,433 + sales tax (6%) + reg/transfer tag ($65) + misc FL law fees ($23.50) - rebate ($500)= $18,067.48).

Very smooth sales process because I did all my homework online. Only spent 2 1/2 hours in the dealership with 2 test drives done during that time. I dealt directly with the Internet Manager, whom I have extended at least 20 msgs back and forth. He matched a very aggressive offer from another dealer and also gave me some extras. I am very happy with my purchasing!

How much should I pay for a 04 LE auto, floor mats, aluminum rims, the usual?

    In the Southern California Region?

    Thanks

I was getting a lot of grief trying to find my car in the Souther California region. I learned quickly that Toyota doesn't manufacture many Corollas with ABS or leather interior. So I tried something unusual: My wife and I had plane tickets to a family reunion in Utah, so I emailed two Toyota dealerships in SLC. Two hours later I got a call from Mark Miller Toyota in SLC. The sales representative said that he had my car: with leather interior and ABS. In addition it had Sunroof, side impact airbags, cruise control, AM/FM/Cass/CD Combo, floor mats, all weather guard package, and trunk mat. It was much more loaded than I was looking for, but hey, it had my ABS and leather interior.

So we haggled a price over the phone. I offered $17,000 (about $150 over invoice). He countered with $17,800 ($1,100 below MSRP). We met at $17,600. I guess he won the haggling, but I still got the car for about par with Edmunds TMV. (I guess it's easier to negociate the true price of the car as opposed to a monthly payment.)

We flew to SLC two days later. The next day the salesman picked us up from our hotel in our new "loaded" Corolla LE. Very pleasent buying experience with no pressure.

We paid about $200 in addition for other fees, but knocked off several hundred dollars of fees like window engraved theft insurance and an undercarriage coat protection. We added the 6 year 100,000 mile warrante for $640.

That was about three months ago and we are very happy with our Corolla. All my friends are baffled that we have a Corolla with leather interior. I just smile and feel spoiled.

Last day of the month. 04 Corolla ABS, side air bags, Cruise, deluxe stereo, mats & net, sticker was 17,255 accepted 16,000 offer but then the dealer low balled the tradein big time. I had to pass. Does anyone know what the cash back might be, if any, for October on Toyota, Honda, & Masda. Thanks.

I am researching a corolla for my fiancee and would like to get both the sunroof and abs packages, but I have been told by one dealer that you can't get both packages. Is this true, or just a toyota strategy to buy off the lot. They are offering 17,039 for an '04 S w/ CL- Cruise control DZ -Deluxe 3-in-1 combo, CK- All weather guard pkg, PP-Power pkg, SP- Sport Plus pkg, CF-carpeted floor mats, SR- Sunroof.

A major magazine is looking to interview someone who considered buying a Prius or a Honda Civic hybrid, but decided it wasn't worth the extra $3,000 to $4,000 price premium over the regular gasoline versions of the Corolla or Civic.

I just bought an 04 Corolla S with cruise control, deluxe 3-in-1 combo, all weather guard pkg, Power package, Sport Plus package, carpeted floor mats, power sunroof along with the ABS. I walked out the door at $16,799. The dealership was great although I could have gotten it for less except that another customer was about to make an offer for the car and I needed to seal the deal. Bide your time and don't let them pressure you. There will be plenty of 04's to go around.

Just purchased a 2004 Corolla LE (Auto Trans)for $15,500 + tax and motor vehicle fee in the Long Island, New York area. Included:
      Code-Option Name-MSRP-Invoice-TMV
      Base Price $15,580 $14,098 $14,400
AB Antilock Braking System info $300 $258 $267
BE Side Impact Airbags info $250 $215 $222
      CL Cruise Control info $250 $200 $210
      EJ AM/FM/Cass/CD Combo info $140 $105 $112
CF Carpet Floor Mats info $87 $54 $61
CK All Weather Guard Package info $70 $59 $61
      C1 Trunk Mat info $58 $35 $40

MSRP=$17,250 ,Edmund's Invoice=$15,539 Edmunds TMV=$15,876 Plus they a year of free oil changes and a Discount book w/coupons providing 25-50% off of service/repairs/parts.

Bought it the last day of September (month/quarter end). While several dealers were not willing to budge a week or two before that, it was amazing how much more flexible they were come sales quota/commission time.

Probably could have negotiated a little better deal but the dealer was close buy.

I'm very happy with the car and feel it is a good value for reliability, features and refinements. Looks and feels like a more expensive car. Was thinking about getting the Camry or Accord but felt it wasn't worth the extra $5,000-$8,000 to the the options I got. Have not experienced problems that many complain about. No sulfur smell, driving position ok (I'm 5'4").

Would appreciate hearing back from you if you think this was a good deal or of you've found better deals.

    I just got my 2004 Toyota Corolla LE 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 4A) with:

    AW aluminum wheels
    V5 Security system
    AB Antilock brakes
    BE Side impact airbags
    CL Cruise control
    EJ AM/FM/CD/casette
    CF Carpet floormats
    C1 Carpet trunk

for $15,700 + tax + license in Northern California.

    How did I do?

I think you did it great. I am currently shopping around for the LE 4A. The dealer in Queens (NYC) quoted me $15,800 with these AB, BE, CL, EJ, CF, CK, C1. It seems like not a good one comparing wspielbe's deal from Long Island. I will give it a try by visiting the Long Island dealers. I hope I can get it for $15,500 too.
  • mshummshum Member Posts: 3
    Celica115,

Don't go to the dealership in person. Just put out several requests though Edmund's for 3 or 4 dealerships near you and just work with them over the phone. I had them under cut each other during the last day of the Thanksgiving sale. You would be surpised at how one dealership would rather lose a couple of bucks to give you the car than to help a competing dealership make his quota and possibly an additional bonus. I had the price finalized before I stepped foot onto the dealership lot. This also buypasses the commission for the salesman who shakes your hand as you walk onto the lot. You only deal with the internet manager.

PS: I also got the 0% financing for 3 years

    Hi Mshum,
what is the name of the dealership
and the contact person info, if you
could provide this info that would be
        very helpful.

I am also in the market for an '04 corolla,
hope I can get a good deal, so far I received
a quote of 14.9K for LE-automatic here in
        N Calif
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
The dealership's name is okay, but no contact info ... see the "rules" in the discussion header.

    Thanks. :)
  • mshummshum Member Posts: 3
    Thank Pat for the advice.

    Hi toy_fan,

The dealer I went to was Hayward Toyota. The buying experience was great there. You might get a different price depending on which salesman you get, which car you are interested in, and a host of other factors.

I still think your best bet is to email several dealers and do all your comparison shopping online. It saves a great deal of effort and time.

I'm in the New York / New Jersey metro area, and I'm in the market for a Corolla LE with ABS, Cruise, Side Impact. I want 3 years at 0.0% APR (my credit is high enough...i think!!) but theoretically, this is not offered in my area...only 2 years. 3 years is for MA, ME, NH, etc.

Can I still get this rate around here? Any tips on how to go about this??
  • alexxlalexxl Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the quotes people gave here, I purchased a 2004 Corolla LE (Auto Trans) for $15,425 + in transit fee in New York area before I moved to another state. I then paid the local tax there. The options are as follows:
      AB Antilock Braking System
      BE Side Impact Airbags
      CL Cruise Control
      EJ AM/FM/Cass/CD Combo
      CF Carpet Floor Mats
      CK All Weather Guard Package
      C1 Trunk Net
After I requested quotes from the net I went to a dealership and they offered $15800 and asked me to put down $100 deposit (100% refundable). Later I went to another dealer where my friend bought his van there. I told the salesman that I got offers between $15400-15700. He asked whether I decide to buy if $15400 is fine with the manager and I said fine. The manager offered $15500 with I said I can get elsewhere and later lowered to $15425, which I agreed with the trunk net throwed in the deal.
I am happy with the deal and the car, except that the acceleration below 10MPH drags a little bit (which may be the case for most cars in this class) and the "rotten egg" smell sometimes.

    Hello All:
I'm looking to buy a new car in February or so. My top picks are the '04 Corolla S and the '04 Civic LE (automatic and 4-door). Each car has things that I like and dislike, which is making this decision even MORE difficult! Does anyone have any suggestions? There are TONS of dealerships in the VA/DC/MD area for Honda and Toyota so I have plenty of options. I test drove the Civic and LOVED it; the salesperson allowed me to take it out by myself, so I really got to drive it. I also test drove the Corolla but the salesperson had to sit with me, took me on a horrible course (it wasn't conducive for feeling the car out), and he knew NOTHING about the car! I want to give the Corolla another shot, because it clearly got a raw deal. Does anyone have anything they'd like to direct my attention to as far as purchasing the S over the LE? Thanks!
  • stragerstrager Member Posts: 308
I used to own a Honda Civic until I got tired of the same old styling and recently bought a Scion xB. It's an incredibly fun car that is in the same price range as the Civic/Corolla but is made in Japan and sold by Toyota/Scion dealers. I believe in MD/VA/DC they will start selling them in February, but dealers may have one on display. It looks unusual (some people call it weird) but drive it and check out the interior room before you settle on a Civic/Corolla. On the other hand if you prefer a sedan, check out the new Mazda3 - much better than the Civic/Corolla, imo.

I just bought a 2004 Corolla LE with:
    Automatic transmission
    AM/FM/CD/Cassette Combo w/ 6 speakers
    Cruise Control
    Carpet Floor Mats (4-piece set)
    Trunk Mat
    50 State Emissions
    ----
The price quoted at Carsdirect is $15,377 as the MSRP is $16,630 and Invoice price is $15,277.
    ----
After ALL rebates, including the $400 college graduate discount, I got this car for $14,085 at Piercey Toyota in San Jose. This is before tax and other fees of course. Out of the door price was $15,516.98. Price wise, this is not the best deal I was offerred, but the service + not having to drive so far made up for it.
(By the way, you can get the discount if you graduated in the last two years or will graduate within the next 6 months. Thought you may like to know. :)
    -----
The Internet Sales Manager was VERY helpful and nice and so was the Finance Manager.
I did all my research online and negotiated through emails.
    --------
I went to Capitol Toyota first and received such poor service and high price, too. The saleman said that he was not allowed to show the invoice price. He hid it while someone he called his manager passed by. He showed me the invoice price acting like he is the nicest saleperson, risking his job for his customer - what a liar!!!
    -------
I bought my car at Piercey because of the price and the outstanding service level.
    -------
    I love my car!!! :)

(Host--sorry for going off-topic here). Are you referring to the Civic LX or the Civic EX (there is no Civic LE)? The EX has a more powerful engine (127hp vs. 105hp, IIRC) than the LX, a power moonroof and ABS as standard, among other things.

What I've heard/read most about Civics versus Corollas is that Civics handle better (more 'sporty') and that you need to check out the Corollas driving position (which clearly does not work for some people).

If you want a 'fully loaded' car, the Civic EX has just about everything standard; if you can live without some power goodies, you may get a better deal on a Corolla.

I just bought a Corolla LE for $16,100 + 1.9% financing + fees in Kirkland, WA. It has the following options:
     - Automatic transmission
     - AB: ABS brakes
     - BE: Side-impact airbags
     - CK: All-weather guard package
     - CF: Carpet floor mats
     - CL: Cruise control
     - V5: RS3200 Plus security system
     - EJ: AM/FM/Cassette/CD
     - N1: Auto day/night mirror

The dealer told me they're selling it below invoice (since they're counting TDA). It's above edmunds invoice (by $100 I think).

Thought I would share for future buyers.

    Hi all,
I'm looking for the best deal for Corolla'04. At first time, I expected to pay cash because I don't have any credits. After calling to the salesman from TOYOTA dealer in RENTON,WA , the salesman offered the finance, so I asked my wife to meet him for figuring out the interest rate. When my wife went to there, she was very upset that the salesman tried to insult her and told her that it's ridiculous to get approved the finance. Then, she called me to talk to that guy, and I was also really upset from that conversation. Maybe I'm an international student, so he didn't treat us well as normal. Finally, I asked to talk to the sale's manager. A moment later, some guy spoke to me with very rude voice and blamed me like I'm stupid person.
Anybody has any idea to complaint to the owner of this dealer? I can't believe this dealer had the president's award. I just want to pass my message to someone who can take care it. This is the bad experience from one of foreigners in USA.

Has anyone purchased a car from Joyce Toyota/Joyce Superstore in DeKalb, IL? I am thinking of buying there, but IL Attorney General's Office says there are 2 consumer complaints on file on this dealership. Attorney General's Office says complaints may or may not be valid.
I was hoping to find someone who bought a car there and if he/she felt they got a good deal and that Joyce Toyota was honest, etc. Thanks

First of all, Thanks to Edmunds.com for their TMV pricing guide and all other valuable info. Secondly, thanks to all posts herein.

Bought a 2004 Corolla LE, 4-sp automatic at Desert Sun Motors in Alamogordo, NM (Denver region) on Saturday 28 Feb 04. Basic vehicle Invoice price: $14,098. Options at dealer invoice price: Antilock brakes $258, Side impact airbags $215, Cruise control $200, AM/FM/Cass/CD combo $105, All weather guard $59, Carpet floor mats $54, Trunk mat $35. Total Options $926. Destination charge $515. Total dealer invoice = $15,539. Dealer charged me $15,442 = $97 below dealer invoice. Dealer had vehicle trailered down from Albuquerque at no charge to me! Additional dealer charges = $39.50 License fee and $89 dealer service transfer fee, but no other dealer fees.

State sales tax = $515.76 (3% of dealer price, plus 3% of $750 Customer rebate, and 3% of dealer's $1,000 cash-match incentive!) I was sceptical of being taxed on a $750 rebate and a dealer's "cash match" of $1,000, but the manager of our local DMV read the state law to me from her computer terminal! Can't really complain about a 3% sales tax though!

Out-the-door cost to me was $16,086.26 which included tax, title and license. Desert Sun gave the best price and quickest delivery over Las Cruces, Roswell, and El Paso. Initial contact with Desert Sun was face-to-face and unpleasant/unhelpful. All other contacts with them and other area dealers was via the Intenet, a convenient, less-hassle means of negotiating. End-of-month buying seemed to influence the dealer's price quote a lot.

Mineral-green opalescent exterior, pebble-beige interior. Like the car, don't see the "awkward driving/steering wheel position complaint" oft mentioned in articles. $400 Marketing Support was in effect at time of purchase. Good luck to all, my first Corolla, hope to enjoy its much tauted reliability, fuel econmomy, and comfort.

I am shopping around for a Corolla. I was at a dealership on Tuesday and was offered 0% financing on cars in stock, but they did not have the color I wanted, so.. 2.9% to find one. The invoice on the car is $16,102. The sales manager knew that I did my homework and asked if he could make a $400 profit - sales price being $16,502. Does this scenario sound reasonable? This is my first new car buying experience. Also, is Edmunds' tax, title, fees estimate pretty accurate or no?

What options did the car have???

NO, that is NOT a good deal. Don't fall for their "can i make $xxx profit, please?"

Carmax is selling new Corollas for a couple hundred UNDER invoice. PLus, TMV is usually a bit high if you're a smart shopper. Plus, the bait and switch on your 0% financing would make me RUN from that dealer!

All in all, figure out the car you want, and email the dealers with your choice and what you will pay (it works VERY well). Just do yourself a favor and avoid that other dealership!

I found a dealership today that will sell me the car at invoice. Apparently the car is hard to find. The salesman said that there are only 3 in the 3 states that he checked. I looked on Carmax and they didn't have the car I wanted. There was one similar, just the wrong color. Carmax had it priced I think only $50 less than the dealership today told me they would sell it for.

I am looking to purchase an 04 Corolla CE 5spd in the next month. Question to those who quoting $12400-$12700 for a CE though. Is this before or after the $750 rebate? I have been going back and forth with internet/fleet sales managers/reps from 4 different dealers in my area (san diego) and so far the best quote I have recieved is $13,107 (including destination charge and BEFORE the $750 rebate) which is roughly $200 under invoice. I am sure I can push them lower but if you guys are getting mid 12k prices before rebate I'd like to know how you negotiated them down. Thanks!

I know about the 1.9% till 04/05/2004, please help me with the "$750 rebate", good til when ? Can I use it for a Corolla CE?

I want to buy a "04 Corolla CE AT", with no extra options added beyond what's already come standard with the CE (Auto, air etc). I wonder: is $12,000-12,500 a resonable fair range I can expect (include destination & rebate, but before Tax-Title-DocumFee) ? I will apreciate your input and help on this, thanks.
