    Well let's see...

    Bought an 05 CTS-V

Modded the Legacy pretty heavily. May be selling it on Monday for $17k. Probably will try to find a 07-09 Spec B to replace it, or was thinking C5 Z06.

Been busy trying to get AZP Installs rolling along a bit more.

    Lots of track events.

    That's about it.

    G'day

I am not 100% sure but think there is a differnce between the Prado which is part of the Landcruiser lineup and the 4Runner which was originally derived from the Hi-Lux.

The Prado sold in Australia is a serious 4WD, although less truck like than the full size Landcruiser. \The 2010 modle was launched a week or so ago, actually being launched in Ausrtalia before Japan

    http://www.smh.com.au/drive/motor-news/first-look-allnew-toyota-prado-20090914-f- nfg.html

The 4-Runner has not been sold in Australia for many years, probably because it would overlap with the Prado market segment.

    Cheers

    Graham,

As you probably know the Prado is sold here in Lexus dealerships, badged as the GX 470, which with the new soon-to-be-released model, will become the the GX 460. All they did was change the grille, and move the door-mounted spare to under the vehicle. I believe the chassis and running gear is the same as a full-boogie 4-Runner.

Greetings. I am changing the spark plugs on my 2002 Outback, 2.5 ltr engine. I found oil puddled in the space at the top of there sparkpug wells where there appears to be gaskets. The plugs are not oil fouled and there is no oil running down the outside of the engine. Is this something I should be concerned about?

    Thanks

    Will make do

Their present V6 has very little better performance than their present four. The DI four probably has both more HP and torque than the present six.

Now let's see a DI four in the Forester!
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
This simply means that you have a bad gasket in the valve cover. It will likely not affect your vehicle's performance, but you should plan, at some point, to pull the covers and replace the gaskets. I suspect the leak is not bad at this point if it is not leaking from the boot area.

    Hey mike, welcome back.

    Pix of the 'V?

    Neat car.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Not really, Sonata's V6 got up to 234 SAE hp. They're not longer peddling those weak 170hp or so V6s from the late 90s.

Hyundai has made huge strides in their powertrains and it looks like that trend will continue.

They can probably do the no-V6 thing because the Azera fills that gap, plus you can get a V6 Genesis.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's good to see GM finally giving this segment an honest effort, I gotta say.

Remember that the old Equinox had a leftover pushrod V6 built in China using leftover assembly line gear that US plants didn't want any more.

Where's the 32 highway mpg, though? This is the 2nd test I've seen with unimpressive fuel economy numbers.

The Vue has numb steering and it looks like the 'nox gets the same rack.

3,783-pounds, there's the reason you don't actually get 32 mpg.

DI and a 6 speed auto, though, plus a nice interior, and it's strikingly handsome. Go GM.
  • kurtamaxxxguykurtamaxxxguy Member Posts: 1,798
Drove it at a recent GM Tech fair, and the ride (rather brittle) and numb steering were apparent. The splashes of chrome throughout the interior generated irritating sun flashes. Still, a major improvement over the last Equinox.

Unknown is the AWD system. The last version was a sluggish on-demand setup.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I looked it up - indeed, the old 'nox only got 184hp from an outdated 3.4l V6.

Kurt's old Malibu Maxx got the updated 3500 engine, which was still a pushrod design, but was updated and made over 200hp and actually got better mileage.

It's decisions like that which make you shake your head when it came to the old GM.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wow, even the base model gets a backup cam!

Forester doesn't get a backup cam at all, even loaded up XT Limited w/Nav.

The 2.5l was upgraded to 179hp last year, so that carries over. Honda makes 180hp and Chevrolet is up to 182hp.

the Sport Appearance Package adds a specific rear door design featuring chrome accents and no spare tire (run-flat tires come as standard)

Deal killer for me - those run-flats are the #1 complaint in the Sienna threads.

Love it! Supposedly this is almost production-ready.

    Also... A 6-speed manual... With a hybrid!

  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Ditto that, Bob. Actually, that is pretty amazing, given it is a Honda! I have to wonder if they would really ofter a manual in the NA market with a hybrid. It must be a totally different sort of hybrid architecture than, say, the Toyota Prius.

Are you affected by the killer car-mat? There's a recall you'd better have the dealer take care of - you wouldn't want to try and take it out yourself. ;-)

    Here is the V

    image

Funny thing is that it is faster, rides better, has a 6MT and better milage than my LGT! Handling is on par and braking is equal or better (14" rotors all around and 4pot Brembos front and rear)

    G'day

Just picked this up in this morning's paper. And no, it is six months from April 1

    http://www.theage.com.au/drive/motor-news/subarus-hybrid-gullwing-20091001-gdb9.- html

Looks gorgeous as a concept but cannot see much of it making production given how stodgy current Subaru interiors are becoming.

    That's a shame.

On news radio I heard it was that they could not line up manufacturing sites quickly enough. GM was going to continue making them for 2 years or so, but then they had to shift production elsewhere, and that's where they stalled.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
volkov: feel free to join us in the "Brand problems swept under the rug" thread. That's a hot topic right now.

I don't think it's a recall, though. Just a re-iteration of the instructions on how to install those mats.

They all have 2 holes, and hooks on the floor secure them. The problem occurs when people stack all weather mats on top of the carpets (instructions clearly say to remove the carpet mats first) and forget to use the hooks (again, instructions are pretty clear about that).

I think it's a TSB of sorts, but don't quote me on that.

Any how, the Sienna is not affected, actually the gas pedal has tons of clearance underneath so there's no way that could happen.

I will say this - there is VERY strong anti-Toyota sentiment in that thread. A cop died in a car crash where an aftermarket plastic mat (not even OE Toyota) was found under the pedal, and people are calling for Toyota's head. It's totally unfair, IMHO.

The cop was in a dealer loaner car. The dealership used some cheap plastic mats with no grommets (Toyota's are rubber, and have holes for the hooks). The guy dies in a fiery crash, killing 4, and Toyota is being thrown in the fire for it.

It's ridiculous, totally frivolous. I think this "recall" is more of a PR stunt, just to say they are trying to do something to help.

But is it their fault if a dealer puts a cheap plastic mat in a loaner and someone crashes? Blame the manufacturer of the mat for the missing holes. Blame the guy who installed it incorrectly. Blame the driver for not finding the brake pedal soon enough, or putting the shifter in neutral, or turning it off entirely.

Seriously, how is that Toyota's fault?

No matter - don't try to invoke common sense, people are dead-set against Toyota and won't hear any of it.

...but if you're in Firefox and an oversize pic is posted, here's how to get by it:

    1 - open a new window/tab
2 - right-click the jumbo image and select "copy image location"
3 - paste the image URL into the new window/tab so that the image appears
4 - return to the window/tab with the post, right-click the image again and select "block images from (domain)"

The image will disappear and the posts will realign to normal. When you're done with the page/discussion, go to the other window/tab where you opened the image separately. Right-click and uncheck the "block images from (domain)" option.

This does not grant free and clear permission to post oversize pics just because you can now get around them... :) please keep pics to no more than 600 pixels wide, or just submit a link to them.

Wow, very good for the new Outback. I didn't think it was doing so well.

Forester still outsold it by a tad, 4,839 to 4268.

For years and years, Outback was top dog and Forester came in 2nd. Actually, that was the case from 1998 until 2008, I'm fairly certain.

I was reading the article re. Canadian sales figures, and Mitsu sales were about 60% of Subaru sales. Now we don't have a Mitsu dealer anywhere near where I live, but even down in Vancouver, I swear I still rarely see any. Subarus on OTOH are everywhere up here. KIA has really come up too and now heavily outsells Subaru.

Yeah the CTS-V gets a lower lip style bumper and brake ducts under the fog lights. Lots of other little tid bits too similar to the STi bits over the stock wrx. Aluminum Suspension components, upgraded struts/springs/shocks, interior, etc.

400hp/400lbs of torque in the LS6 motor is nice. Power up to 6500rpms. They let us run the full Pocono Tri-oval at an HPDE over the summer trapped me with the radar gun at 145mph w/passenger right before entering the bowl of turn 1. I also only had the car for a few weeks at that point. There was a guy in a ZR1 who was hitting 166 at the same spot.

I have to say, as much as I dislike american cars, this is really a very well made and well thought out car. Looking forward to actually trading it up in 4 years for a used 2009 CTS-V.

LGT is now set for tracking in the summer, and snow duty in the winter. Steadily building up the mods on that car.

Brembos in the front now, STi Pink Springs, Konis, Cobb AP, Lots of suspension bushings, Whiteline Sways, SPT Exhaust etc. etc.

I'll keep you guys posted. Small blog of it is at http://blog.azpinstalls.com

Looks like the country has much work to be done now. Not a big fan of the IOC, but it's nice to see them getting out of recycling the same countries. Considering the US has seen 4 games in the last 29 years, I couldn't see how Chicago could be a favourite. Same when Toronto went looking for 2012 after Canada had secured 3 games in the prior 30 years.

I don't think you have to make any excuses at all for the CTS, much less the V. That's probably the car that started Cadillac's turn-around.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yep, my family and friends are pretty excited.

The plans for Rio are very ambitious, it ought to be beautiful. The city and its surroundings are already incredible.

My main concern? Security. It's not the safest place at night, and crime there runs rampant. It's the sort of place where you don't wear jewelry and walk around alone at night - if at all. I'm sure they'll beef up police presence for the games.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Bob - you mentioned this recently, I forget which thread, but I just got mine today and took a look as well.

It outscored the V6 Venza! The 2.5i Limited, that is.

Also, they managed 24mpg with the CVT model, which is also best-in-class. The Equinox in the same issue didn't do nearly as well, overall or in mileage.

A tad slow - 60mph in 10.7 seconds. The Forester is quicker, but not quite as fuel efficient.

I can't wait to see that CVT in a Forester.
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Cool Mike. Great car. A 4 door vette. If only the American companies could make a lot of great cars like the CTS-V. :(

  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
I'd be happpy if Subaru just got rid of the 4 spd auto. Most other companies are using 6 spd autos, the Lexus has an 8 speed. The sooner they plop that CVT into all their cars the better!
