    G'day

If I said that the hose went for my crotch, would you get the general idea. Judy thought it most entertaining, as did my nine year old daughter. Left hand side front compartment is now heavily mud spattered as the hose bouncing around, threw up a mass of mud.

To add to my joys, a neighbour's cat has left paw prints over the outside and my dog has left her's all over the interior.

Ah, the joys of car ownership

    Cheers

I'll have to take a close look at my mud guards. I usually spray the undercarriage and the wheel well, so I wonder how dirty it is.

And by the way, not to get too much into politics, but the reason Forrester lost is because THE DUDE CAN'T SPELL "FORESTER"! LOL

Maybe you guys can drill larger drain holes?

I'll check mine. It would take two minutes with a drill.

    Dear (IT) Technical Support:

I am desperate for some help.

I recently upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 and found that the new program began unexpected child processing and also took up a lot of space and valuable resources. This wasn't mentioned in the product brochure.

In addition Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during system initialisation where it monitors all other system activity.

Applications such as Boys Night Out 2.5, and Golf 5.3 no longer run and crash the system whenever selected. Attempting to operate Saturday Rugby 6.3 always fails but Saturday Shopping 7.1 runs instead. I cannot seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background whilst attempting to run any of my favourite applications. I am thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0 but uninstall doesn't work on this program.

    Can you please help.

    Joe

    Dear Joe,

This is a very common problem resulting from a basic misunderstanding. Many men upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 thinking that Wife 1.0 is merely a UTILITIES & ENTERTAINMENT program. Whereas Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM designed by its creator to run everything.

You are unlikely to be able to purge Wife 1.0 and still convert back to Girlfriend 7.0 as Wife 1.0 is not designed to do this and it is impossible to uninstall, delete or purge the program files from the system once installed.

Some people have tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0 but have ended up with even more problems. (See in manual under alimony/Child Support and Solicitors Fees).

Having Wife 1.0 installed myself I recommend you keep it installed and deal with the difficulties as best you can. When any faults or problems occur, whatever you think has caused them, you must run the C: \I APOLOGISE program and avoid attempting to use the *Esc-key. It may be necessary to run C:\ I APOLOGISE a number of times but hopefully eventually the operating system will return to normal.

Wife 1.0 although a very high maintenance program can be very rewarding. To get the most out of it consider buying additional software such as Flowers 2.0 and Chocolates 5.0.

Do not under any circumstances install Secretary (Short Skirt version) as this is not a supported application for Wife 1.0 and the system will almost certainly crash.

    Best of luck

Can you just buy a new computer? ;-)

Colin: check out the new Autoweek (11/4), I think you may know one of the people featured in the article. He's an autocrosser from Kansas and drives an '84 Civic. Sounds way too familiar to be a coincidence.

    Juice,

I don't have a subscription to Autoweek anymore. What's his name? I probably do know him.

Just got back from Orlando-- conference at WDW! -- via an unexpected stay in Atlanta. missed connection, checked into a dumpy Days Inn @ 1:30 AM, no luggage, stored my contacts in tap water... bleh.

So when I finally got back to Wichita this afternoon my boss says... "just come in tomorrow." aw yeah, think I'll mow the lawn for the last time this year.

Ah, the joys of business travel. So how was WDW?

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I forget, and the recycling went out today. Anyone else have it? It's the current issue, worth a look if you get a chance.

John something? The car is owned by another couple.

I recall a while back being shocked at some results you showed us - that Civic was 2nd, well ahead of several much faster (and newer) cars.

Kansas, '84 Civic, I can't believe that's a coincidence, it must be the same guy. At the time you mentioned he was the only one in your region that was competitive on a national level, and the article was about the SCCA nationals.

You should have called Frank in Atlanta. At least grab a quick bite.

You need LASIK, man. No more glasses, no contacts, no contacts cases, no saline. Yuck, I hate even remembering.

Juice-- two years ago Russell Blume ran an '84 Civic in H Stock, via protest ended up 4th or so. in 2001 he switched to a '91 BMW 318is in D stock and won.

Ken-- WDW was ok, I've been there before. to this conference in fact in '98 and '99. it was great from an education standpoint. WDW is way overpriced of course-- even this economy hasn't softened their prices any. met up with Brad (iClub: STiTuner), an Orlando local, Monday night and had dinner with him. Nice guy, nice town to visit.

    LOL!

That program has been running our household for almost 30 years. It has learned to adapt and modify the companion version of Husband 1.0. The trick is in setting the preferences to automatically run in "Yes, dear." mode. :-)
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
It sounds like Husband 1.0 might be infected with a virus (at best), or a worm (at worst). ;)

Apparently, it's about Subaru's failed advertising campaign of the early 1990's, which almost put them out of business.

Interesting. The last link on the i-club page is a business school case study. Haven't read one of those in a few years!

Just got the latest issues of Road & Track and Car and Driver in the mail today. They appear to have number of interesting articles.

    Of Subaru interests:

R&T (snow) tests the Volvo V70 Cross Country, Acura MDX, Audi A6 allroad Quattro, BMW 3.0 X5, Toyota Rav4 and Subie Outback Sport. Talk about a diverse group! At a quick glance, it appears the Outback Sport won their hearts as the most fun to drive!

C&D tests the new Baja. At a glance, the article is rather humorous. There's a picture of a Baja, tailgate down with bed extender in place—and the bed loaded with cinder blocks. The front wheels are about 6" off the ground! Besides being funny, it also appears to be brutally honest and very much, in-your-face-Subaru. I don't think SOA will be very happy with the write up...

Did you disable the clock/calendar function of your household? I am kind of surprised that a 30 year old application was not killed off by Y2K. Surely the creators would be long since retired. With nobody to do the required patches, might one expect extinction?

"Where Suckers Moon" gives insight on the automotive business and the relationships between dealers, companies, and ad agencies. Sadly, it ends before the introduction of the Outback campaign which would have been a very interesting read. Look for it at the library, it's not a book you really need in your collection.

A business case study sounds too much like homework to me. I'm on a slow modem connection right now - was that the "What to Drive" campaign?

I left a message for Patti, but at work. I doubt she's checking it. I also e-mailed her, but she's probably not on a PC yet, I'm sure.

Bob - read the fine print - they admit that photo is doctored. 0-60 was quicker than the the compact crew cabs they compare it to, even the S/C Frontier. Also quicker than the Kia Sorento V6, and heck, even quicker than their last Forester, which is plain odd given the weight.

I just bought a pair of rollerblades at my daughters insistence (and why do I listen to a little kid??). She is great on them and wants me to join her. I skated around the little indoor track at the local Dick's Sporting Goods, and it felt great, but I have not been on skates (roller or ice) since Christmas, 1990.

Beth thinks I am nuts, and is searching for the life insurance policy as I write this. Any other 45 yr olds out there this crazy???

Just wear protective gear. I'm a so-so rollerblader and always wear wrist-pads, knee pads and elbow pads.

Once when we where packing up the car to leave the park one summer, our 13 y.o. decided to go for one more spin. She had taken off her pads and was only wearing a bathing suit. She went down a slight incline and BAM! She has a nice scar on her elbow now.

    Be safe!

Re: Wife 1.0 - Interestingly, the only Y2K problem the program experienced was a realization of a sagging driver. Installed Plastic Surgeon 6.0 and after a few weeks, Wife 1.0 was running like new again. :-)

Re: roller blades - They are much easier than skate boards, imo. (I spent two weeks on crutches after my last skate boarding attempt.) Get some ski poles to start out. Helps till you get the balance and brakes figured out.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
a sagging driver... That certainly could make Wife 1.0 wish for an upgrade...

I second that...go for it! Once you get the hang of it, rollerblading can be really good exercise. Having said that, I realized I haven't used mine in a year or so. :-) oops....
    (pssst...I'll be 41 in Feb)

I own a pair of blades, used to play roller hockey. Wear knee pads and wrist guards.

Wow, they recalled the automatic? That thing had been bullet proof. They say just 800 or so were actually affected.

Hyundais are recommended? Wow, Hell has frozen over.

Actually, we saw it coming. A lot of things about the Sonata impressed me, like the multi-hinged trunk and the hood struts, plus the headliner and carpeting inside.

But all 3 Subies are still best bets in used car buys according to CR's just published Buying Guide.

Holy moly! We're getting hit by a major storm out here in the SF Bay Area:

    http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2002/11/08/BA89517.DTL

Winds gusts up to 70mph and torrential rain. Our house was without power from 8PM last night until this morning. Trees and branches everywhere!

I tried driving to work today, but many of the freeways were flooded (some closed completely). After getting 6 miles in one hour, I decided to VPN-it from home.

Even in my trusty Forester, I was a bit tense driving home last night as the wind gusts pushed me left to right even while crawling along at 30mph! It was raining upwards!

This big a storm is unusual for the Bay Area let alone this early in the season. I'm thinking it's going to be an awesome snowboarding season!

I wonder if the sudden change in Impreza owner demographics with the WRX has something to do with the change in ratings.

I would think the new Impreza, from a fit and finish standpoint, is better than the previous generation.

From the amount of standing water I drove through, my undercarriage has got to be debris-free!

I first got on a pair at age 46 with the daughter in high school. I had skated a lot with the 'adjustable' skates that fit over your shoes (complete with skate key) as a kid .. anyone else have those??? .. but I have to admit .. even though I really wanted to inline ... I was nervous at first .. didn't tell the b/f I'd done it until after the first couple of outings .. and could prove I could do it without breaking a hip!

    I enjoy it ...
won't tell my age .. but that was two years ago .. :-P

    if it's a jet ski-type of vehicle.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
But it would have to have all-jet-drive, maybe quad jets, two front and two rear?

The better jet boats have twin engines and two jets now, I believe.

So, has anyone happened upon http://www.bmwfilms.com? There's an article in the latest Automobile mag about it. BMW figures rather than just getting a mere 30 seconds of your attention in a 'normal' tv commercial, they get at least 7 minutes of your undivided attention with their mini-movies.

Will this lead to any of us pulling a 'Colin'? ;-)

    Ken,

Hang tight dude. As a resident of Kansas, I know exactly what 70MPH wind feels like.

Brian-- please ADD a BMW to your stable without subtracting a Subaru. you pick which one is mundane transportation and which is for fun...

    -Colin
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
    Colin: I'd love to add a 325xi sedan...hmmm, VDC or xi? ;-)

    -Brian
  • mdisaacsmdisaacs Member Posts: 28
I think they are great. Short flicks that show off their cars but not in a gratuitous way. The cars are key to the plot as transportation but they are not discussed and often get seriously abused. It's an expensive ad campaign and it hasn't change my view of BMW cars. Nice, upscale but I don't drool over them. (Ferrari peaks my interests) So I guess I like the films for the action and the short films themselves, not for the cars specifically.

I feel 'Superstar' is the most entertaining. 'Chosen' is deep and is meant to make you think. Both are from last years series.

Fun for the broadband connected folks. 100mg+ for each movie.
