Yeah, you see a lot of nice cars in Miami.

Did you hit the beach? I saw Versace's house last time I went down (2 years ago, on the way to Brazil).

    Lots of boy-racer cars, too.

We stayed on the beach. I was very suprised as to how few boy-racers there were! There were more Porsche Boxster Ss than Boy-racers. I see more in NY/NJ than I saw down there. Quite suprising actually.

How was the installfest? What type of stuff did they have installed?

You met up with some i-clubbers, right?

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I didn't rent a car til mid-week. None of them wanted to come down to Miami so I never met up with em. :(

what about NickSTi? I used to talk to him all the time, in fact he used to post here on Edmunds too. most of the Florida iClubbers I know are in/near Orlando. met one of them while there in Nov for conference...

the Head I-club guy, he's in FLL, but he couldn't make it down. I think most of them are in Orlando and Tampa Bay.

I was very lucky, and no pixs. This was back in 1963 or so, before cameras were invented. ;)

I was flying around a wet corner, and the rear end swung out. As soon as I hit dry pavement, it grabbed, the car flipped, and I skidded to a halt. This was at night, and all I remember was were sparks from the grinding metal. I must have skidded on my side for about 50 yards or so. I also remember putting foot prints on the interior roof! I was 17 , IIRC.

yeah, swing axle + rear engine = very very bad trailing-throttle oversteer.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Ya geezer! LOL

    With 9 lives, too.

paisan: my Isuzu buddy (and best man) lives in Orlando now. Was in Atlanta, just moved back. He drove down to see us last time we went to Miami Beach. He actually does business there at times.

were deadly. It was very easy to get into an oversteer situation, which you could not recover from, because the rear wheels tucked under. That was the basis of Ralph Nader's book, "Unsafe at Any Speed," which was about the (early) Chevy Corvair, which also had a rear engine and swing rear axles—which GM copied from VW.

A ship sank in the English channel, and it was carrying Volvos, Saabs, and BMWs!

    Here is a link:

    http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,239321,00.html

CNN has not reported on it yet. That site is not English.

Lots of cars were heading here as part of the European delivery program. Let the jokes begin.

Did you hear about Volvo's new Underwater Delivery program?

Good thing they equipped the cars with periscopes and Volvo Penta marine engines!

Now all the turbos are water cooled.

Ford has sued because sharks attacked the Volvos and the side air bags went off, and this copied Ford's marketing.

    Is your Bimmer a Swimmer?

    Saab owners are sobbing!

I wonder if there is enough wood in the interior to make them float? ;-)

The ship's captain should have used the Nav systems from one of the cars!

At least the XC90 is attractive, the fish have a nice view. Had it been a fleet of Cayennes, I think all marine life in the area would have gone belly up!

Someone has a new black XC 90 at work, sharp looking, but strange at first. Bigger than I had seen in pictures.

I find them very handsome, the best looking Volvo, possibly the best looking SUV out there.

They made the D-pillar sexy, and it echoes the styling of the rest of the vehicle.

  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
It is, but I didn't hear about it.
    From the Skynews site:
"The smash happened in thick fog early on Saturday morning about 20 miles north of Dunkirk."

Noone in the Subie topics had mentoined it yet.

At lest one guy in the Volvo thread here on Edmunds lost his XC90 in that channel. He'll get a new one but obviousy delayed.

Oh boy... Hang in there. We're praying for you. Sounds like you're on the right track. Too bad my daughter is still too young (15) but if you can wait just 3 more years :-)... She loves Subarus and BMWs so I'm sure you could get along just fine!
  • kate5000kate5000 Member Posts: 1,271
What's cooking with Nissan Pathfinder? I thought 2002 was the last year of old design, and that Murano will replace it -- but I see slightly updated 2003 PF on the market now (and offered at 0.9%APR btw)... Is it going to be replaced by Murano or will continue on as is?

I always had a soft spot for PF, probably because of it's traditional-boxy SUV look.
  • hammersleyhammersley Member Posts: 684
Why couldn't that have been a boatload of Azteks?

Colin: Hope you're finding that peace which eluded you to this point. Hang in there, and go where your heart & brain can agree on.

I'll be chatless tonight - kiddo's Christmas program tonight, and they're all in it. If we're lucky, we can get 'em home from swimming lessons & fed on time!

    Cheers!

is not a replacement for the Pathfinder. It's an addition to the lineup. To use the Toyota analogy:

    Murano = Highlander

    Pathfinder = 4Runner

    Xterra = TBA

Colin, like Kate I figured I had missed something somewhere, but I did not want to ask, some things are personal and painful to recount.

Anyway I am glad that you are getting through it, I always wonder how two people who loved and respected each other, can finish up hating each other,if you cannot stay together how come you cannot stay friends at the end.

Rita and I are coming up on 36 years married on FEB,2nd 03. and I just could not imagine life without her in it.

As for faith with all that we have been through in our lives if we had not had faith in a God I do not believe we would have gotten through it.

    Cheers Pat.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I also think the Pathfinder is sort of made redundant now. The XTerra is the truck, the Murano is the car, the Pathfinder sort of falls between the two (low range, but unibody).

The next Infiniti QX4 is supposed to get bigger, so I wonder where the Pathfinder will end up, if it even survives.

36 years? Cool. Hope your kids throw a big bash for you when it hits 40. :-)

if it were Azteks, the environmentalists would go ballistic. At least the fish have some real engineering to study.

    G'day

What the news stories in the States have not mentioned is the follow up to the sinking of the Wilhelmsen Tricolor after a collision in the English Channel. It sank taking 2862 Volvos, SAABs and BMWs, described as the worlds largest pile-up.

About 24 hours after the collision, another vessel plowed onto the Tricolor, ending up stuck firmly on top of it. Took three tugs to pull it off. Sort of like the poor sucker who rounds the bend after an accident and plows into the accident scene whilst everone else is trading addresses.

    Cheers

Sunk Aztek: cruel and unusual punishment to those fish? ;-)

They'll be quite happy with the heated leather and DVD players.

Part of the problem is that those big ships don't handle (turn) worth a darn. They are kind of like Excursions, except on water. The inertia is unsurmountable, a la Titanic.

I just scrolled backwards quite a ways and read your post about what has been going in your life.
I feel like an idiot asking about your M3 a couple of days ago, not realizing there were much more important things going on. I'm sorry about that but I missed your post the first time.
I wish you all the best as you begin this new chapter in your life.
    Best Wishes,

I don't think it's redundant, and neither does Toyota. They (Toyota) will offer both the 4Runner and a yet-to-be-announced competitor for the Xterra.

Think of the Pathfinder/Xterra as to the Grand Cherokee/Liberty. As with the Jeep, the Pathfinder is the "luxury" SUV, and the Xterra is for the budget-minded. The Murano appeals to a non-truck audience.

Everyone, I'm doing just fine. Better than that even, and I've just been exchanging emails with my ex-mother-in-law who would like to talk to me and give me a Christmas present. Anything I can do to resolve or ease the pain.

However I am a bit concerned about being in a place where everyone would be happiest if Lisa and I were back together. I guess that describes most of my friends and family, but still-- I think you all know what I mean. I'm not trying to get back together with her and I don't want pressure on either of us, especially Lisa, from the family to do so. I'm sure they would mean well, of course.

and Kate: thank you for the offer ;-) but I had enough inner turmoil dating a 19 year old. (again-- I'm 27). she was quite mature for her age but graduated in May of this year, and so did my younger sister! disturbing. we only went out twice, she's busy with two jobs and I suspect that it's for the best.

Juice: re the ship- WTLW!! :D A co-worker lost a 325ci on that, BTW.

Chat- prolly not. gotta go shopping. :(

I am confident that you are going to be just fine. Your intelligence is well documented on these boards, but what also bears mentioning is the extraordinary level of maturity, thoughtfulness, powers of insight, and well-roundedness that you possess at 27. Take that job, get yer butt to NYC and I think you'll find plenty of, er, opportunity. Come to think of it, want my sister's #? She's in DC which is a well-documented single-guy wasteland. :-))

Funny, you getting baptized and me just about ready to walk away from the church thing completely. If I may ask, into what denomination were you so soggily welcomed? email if you aren't comfortable sharing here....
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
Boy, you are really bad today! But I have to admit it was good, as I LOL. Kind of the car equivilent to the old lawyer joke - "What do you call a boat load of Azteks that sink and all are lost?" Answer: A good start...

The fact that Colin shared some deep private stuff with us here - you must have great trust in us. I doubt other boards would be this warm and welcome to such off topic stuff. Even though we occasionally have our differences, I think all of us have a great deal of respect for each other. Thanks for sharing with us Colin! I raise my glass to you, to a great 2k3, Salut!

My sister is going through a pretty fierce divorce/custody thing. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Colin didn't have to share any of that with us, but it's nice to know that he thought enough of us to do so...

Lucien-- I was baptized in a rather large non-denominational church. too bad I don't go there any more because of an ex-girlfriend... I guess I could get up early, but it's a 20 minute drive and early service is 8:45. and I like to live a little on Saturdays... ;-) When we met I thought things were doomed from the onset because she is very religious and I was just a curious atheist, but amazingly she ended things the very day I was baptized. Leaving the church--are you Catholic by chance? You can email if you want.

Steve, Brian... sorry if reading that bothered you. I am an open person by nature, but there's no question I trust the Crew and count each of you as good friends. This isn't your average internet forum!
