Negitive battery terminal melted. Nissan Sentra.

so I just finished up changing the clutch on my 94 sentra. Went to install the battery positive first as soon as I touched the negitive to the terminal it made some huge sparks melted a good chunk of my terminal.
when I removed the starter during the clutch chnage I just removed the 2 cables off the right side post and disconnected the sensor. Im guessing my connection is bad when installing the 2 wires again but not sure what im doing wrong. I put them on exactly the way I remember them comming off
any suggestions are greatly

The positive battery cable is touching ground somewhere...either to the car's frame in the battery area, or down at the starter, where the cable must be grounded to the car's engine or the frame. If you have a little ohm meter, put one lead on the positive battery terminal (when it is OFF the battery) and the other lead to ground (fender, engine, etc) and I bet you'll see a completed circuit on the meter (it should register, same as if you touched the two leads of the meter together).5
