Looking to get a car for my girlfriend who only drives about 10mi a day to work. Its a 2006 Suzuki Forenza wagon 2.0 4spd automatic with 108k mi for $1950. She just needs to get around town no long trips. I have seen a lot of negative comments about these cars and wondering if its worth taking a chance on it for short money. Thanks.

Well it's a borderline kind of thing. On the one hand, for $1950 you might find a shabby, dented Toyota with ripped seats and 3 different color doors; on the other hand, you might find an older Buick or Chevy that's fairly decent and that you can actually find parts for just down the block, rather than waiting for a UPS delivery from Neptune, or wherever the warehouse is for orphaned cars.

I would say only consider buying this car if you are willing to cut it loose if it starts to nickel and dime you. Any money you put in this car will be irretrievably lost, so one has to consider whether "the cheapest car will actually turn out to be the most expensive".

i hate to be wishy-washy, but that's the way it is with cars that have mediocre records and which are no longer for sale in the USA.

I am afraid of the parts situation, sounds like if anything breaks the search for parts is difficult. I have read that many part are interchangeable with the Daewoo Lacetti. If I can get it for $1500 I think I might do it. But I see your point of looking at a buick or chevy in the same range and being able to find parts. For under $1950 I wouldn't be to angered if I had to scrap it when it starts to nickle and dime me.

OK, maybe a quick bit of research on the parts situation is in order. Being stuck for 3-5 days every time you need some little thing would be very frustrating. And you can pretty much forget about body parts, trim or interior parts.
