I'm not saying you did or didn't, I'm just saying that this is a net loss on the vehicle.

What dealership did you buy form?
  • amayasdadamayasdad Member Posts: 4
I just bought an 06 Pilot 2WD with Leather and NAV for $30,678.00, I( think I got a great deal.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
You did get a great deal.

What part of the country do you live in?
  • bluecrab1bluecrab1 Member Posts: 4
Maryland, Sport Honda in Silver Spring. I was going to buy an EXL for $29000+Dest+ttl+tax. However, they didn't have the color (Sage Brush) I wanted, so they just made me a deal by subtracting the difference of the list prices of EX and EXL. I suppose they just want to sell me something on that day. They didn't press me anything though. Very friendly people. Best experiences of all my new car purchases(5).

    Hello,

Thanks for posting the pricing on the EX AWD. Has Honda placed any new incentives (dealer incenvtives) on the vehices? I am not aware of any on the AWD units.

The price seems too good, but there are a lot of Pilots on the dealer's lots.
  • amayasdadamayasdad Member Posts: 4
In Sacramento, California. I could not pass up that price, it was below invoice.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
as of right now there isn't anything on Pilots...with the exception of a really awesome Leasing schedule.

Honda has announced that they are slowing the production of the Pilot. They need to bring inventory levels back down to about the 35-45 day level.
  • tinatinatinatina Member Posts: 388
Thanks, I kind of suspected that - all I saw were leases on 2wd EXs. He got a good price though, but I wonder if it excluded other fees, such as destination, etc. That is the lowest I've seen on this board.

After owning my 06 EXL RES Pilot for about 2 weeks now, I will say I have nothing but praise for the car. Such a smooth powerful powertrain. With that said, yes this vehicle does transmit more from the road into the cabin, including some noise and road feel, yet it does handle rough roads nicely. The handling is great for something so large and tall. I am comparing the PILOT to my '04 Toyota Sienna, which is almost opposite - very smooth, quiet, with little road feel.

It is a personal decision which type of "feel" you prefer. For us, the pros of the Pilot highly outweighed the extra road noise.

    Hope this helps!

Got a price of $29,780 which includes destination, is this a good deal?. Also anyone got any info on trading, we have the 2005 Pilot EXL w/leather and pro package with only 8700 miles, am debating about getting the new one for the extra safety features, otherwise love the one we have. Think the price of the new one is good (less than we paid for the 05) but the dealer seems to be under the KBB by about 2000 in trade in and interest rates have gone up so not sure whether it is worth it.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
There are times, especially when business is slow where a dealer will sell a car for slightly less than the cost of the vehicle. "Cost" meaning dead or net cost. Usually there is a trade involved and the trade can be under allowed to offset the difference.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
I was in the same boat as you when we bought our 04 CRV. The 05 came out with upgraded safety features and I looked at trading it in.

We held off and paid off the CRV...my wife wants a Pilot now. I might lease again at some point, but for now I dont really want to take on any new debt.

FWIW, I have an 04 Pilot with 70k miles. Changed fluids and brakes. I am of the opinion that an extended warranty is a complete waste of money on this vehicle. Isn't this why you pay 30k for a Honda or a brand that is known to be reliable?
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Are you kidding me? 70,000 miles on a two year old car and you think an extended warranty is a waste of money?

You were out of factory warranty after a year. Keep in mind that ONE of the computer modules that are in your Pilot would cost MORE than the extended warranty.

Most people do not put that kind of mileage on their vehicles. I would expect 70,000 miles to be on a 4-5 year old car.

Hondas are reliable, but they are not perfect...no car is.

I just got a quote from dealer for Pilot EX 4WD for $26,100 plus freight and TTL. The freight is $550, so the before TTL will be $26,650. Is this a good one? I am actually want a EX 2WD and they will get back to me soon. I like the VCM tech in 2WD.

    Thanks again.
  • jimzopsjimzops Member Posts: 39
Yikes, 70K in 2 years and your talking warranty. Of course it would be a waste for you.
Like any insurance (home owners, health) you may or may not need to use it for quite a while.
If nay sensor goes on the pilot it will be $1k.
If you have DVD or navigation then hope that doesn't go or it will be at least 2k in expense.
  • molumdayuckmolumdayuck Member Posts: 18
WOW....thats an excellent price. My quote was $27600 and I thought I have a good price. Can you tell me which dealer you got this quote from? I'll see if I can get a price match or have them throw in something.

Question for everyone. On the EX model, it said that it comes with a security system, the salesman told me that is not a passive alarm. If I want it to be passive, I have to add-on as an option. Is this true?
  • molumdayuckmolumdayuck Member Posts: 18
I am trading in an 2003 Toyota that as 96k on it. ;)
It is possible to have that much miles on the car.
  • lestrslestrs Member Posts: 2
We are starting to seriously look at the Pilot. Today I spoke with a salesman and he told me that if I can get $1000-1500 off of MSRP that's a good deal. Since he is a salesman I don't really trust that!

What is a good deal for this vehicle? Can you really get at or below invoice? Their MSRP is $34,000.

We live in Iowa and will shop central Iowa over to Omaha if the deal is right. There are three Honda dealers close by Holmes, Ames and Ken Wise.
  • golicgolic Member Posts: 714
The Pilots were going for under Edmunds Invoice. If your dealer in Iowa can't do that, I know one in Chicago who will.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Golic just picked up his EXL and made a very good deal on it.

I was planning to do the same thing to get the 7yr/80,000 miles, 0 deduction for $801, but just finish talking to my insurance agent (Geico). They told me that new car purchase qualify for mechanical break down insurance. Which means it covers just like any other extended warranty that is out there. The cost of it is ~$30/year and if you want it for 7 years, its only $210. The coverage is good for 7 years / 100,000 miles. The down side for this is for each incident, there is a $250 deductible. Since this is a new vehicle, hopefully there isn't much of a problem. Guess I use that money to buy some options from the dealership to make them happy. :D
  • highlander123highlander123 Member Posts: 29
I am confirming with the deal about the price again. This sounds too good to be true. Haven't heard back from dealer. I will keep you guys informed. I am in MD.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
    What dealership is quoting this?

    Have you confirmed it?
  • pilotman2pilotman2 Member Posts: 3
I am offering $32,100 to a dealer today for the following:

    Honda 4WD EXL with Navigation
    Added Options:

    back up sensors
    running boards
    Wood Dash Trim Kit
    Wood Interior Trim Kit
    Wood Center Panel Trim
    Wood Select Lever
    All Wood Steering Wheel

Opinions. Is this too high? Is this too low? I am in Memphis, TN
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
If you are offering the 32,000 WITH the listed options, then you are WAYYYY too low. If you are offering the 32K w/o the listed options then you are leaving money on the table in my opinion.

The options you've chosen are nice but they are very labor intensive. A word of caution here; if you are dead set on the running boards, don't wait for a later time to have these put on...do them when you get your car. The bolts that attach to the frame get rusted quickly and are incredibally difficult to remove after a while, at least here in MD due to the salting of the roads.
  • pilotman2pilotman2 Member Posts: 3
Yes the offer is WITH the options. If I am way low...then if they accept I am doing good. :D

Why do you say "if you are dead set on the running boards" ? I think they look the SUV look more like an SUV and more rugged but thats just my opinion. Are they having problems for any reason with the running boards?

Thanks for the feedback! You have helped for sure.

I got my Pilot EX-L 2WD including Wheel locks, Mud Guards, Floor mats and Cargo net. I should have known that floor mats and Cargo net are standard features for an EX-L.

$28802+tax+reg+45(doc fee). I believe it is ~500 below invoice. It was in Southern California - Orange County.

I am happy with the deal but I am not happy with the dealership. They tried so many tactics (some very cheep) on me to sell after sale products and pressured me in to buying the vehicle on the spot.

NO, I have sent two emails to them but didn't get reply. The dealer is Jim Coleman Honda.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Coleman? That seems to be the MO for them.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Here is the way I configure this for you.

    $31,699 EXL/Nav $558 under invoice( still a $500 profit to the dealer)

Your accessories added up to $2,755 which includes labor and some profit.

    Back Up Sensors $835
    Running Boards $659
    Wood Dash Trim $213
    Wood Interior Trim $303
    Wood Center Panel $69
    Wood Gear Knob $137
    Wood Steering Wheel $539

So, doing the math I would think that the dealer will be around $34,450 plus your tax and tags.
  • pilotman2pilotman2 Member Posts: 3
Here is the exact quote I have received from a dealer here in Memphis.

Honda Pilot 4WD EXL with Navigation -- $32,857.00

The options you asked for -- Backup sensors -- $799.00, Running Boards -- $799.00, Wood Dash Trim -- $249.00, Wood Interior Trim -- $329.00, Wood Center Panel Trim -- $99.00, Wood Select Lever Trim -- $149.00, All Wood Steering Wheel -- $649.00.

This comes to a total of $35,930.00. Your Business Tax is $108.00. The Document Processing Fee is $349.00. The Tn. State Sales Tax is $2,547.15. The City Sales Tax is $80.00. The Temporary Drive-Out Tag is $5.50. New License Plates are approx. $118.00.

This adds up to a total of $39,138.49.

Considering your math jmurman42 I should come back at them at roughly $37,000 everything included.

Sounds like this dealership likes to hold their gross. It migth be the time to go and play the sit down game with them. I'd be right up front about it too. If you have a good salesman, then thats another leg up too.

I had one of my Internet Salesmen come to me this evening with a deal they were working...they needed some more money off to make the deal. The money off would be less that what we would normally do, so I went to bat for them with the GSM. I basically said "take it or leave it no playing around...yes or no"

He grumbled "Frickin (not his exact wording)Internet Department is killing my gross."

Gotta love it...the customer certainly did.

Does anyone know what Pilot EX security system comes with besides the imobilizer. Is their an upgrade that I have to pay or the EX alarm system is good enough.
  • molumdayuckmolumdayuck Member Posts: 18
Well I just got of the phone with the dealership and he said " I thought you are financing with us?" I told the advice here and went to bankrate.com and use capital one auto financing and they give me a good rate and will be mailing me a check for my requested amount. The salesman also said that if I don't finance with them and if that check is not a cashier check, it will take over a week before I can pickup my vehicle.

For the people that uses online financing such as capital one, when you use their checks, do the dealer usually give you the car rightaway or you have to wait?

I can see it now, they might be calculating how to chip me in the options and other stuff.

Can someone give me some advices so they can't take advantage of me? If they start messing with me, I'll probably get up and walk out and how will I get my deposit back (on CC).

    Thanks in Advance.

With the amount of fraud right now I can see where the dealership can cover themselves until the check clears.

I'm sure you get those Internet type "offers" too.

That being said, if you have a check from Cap 1 and you sit infront of the Business mgr, just ask him to match the deal. He's not going to make much off of it, but it's better than a kick in the pants. They can check quickly by pulling your credit and seeing that Cap 1 ran your credit.

We don't let an Internet type bank stop us from delivering a car...we just deal with it.
  • golicgolic Member Posts: 714
Before it was Capital One it was People something and I used thier service before and I had read how some dealers would either not accept the checks or wait until funds clear.

When you get your Capital One package, they should have some information on what to do if the "dealer" won't accept payment. Capital One is not some "internet bank" and they have the process in place to get your payment processed.

Like Jmurman said, the F&I guy will 99% of the time match that rate they will forgo the juice in order to keep the volume.

You are doing good, call Capital One and ask them what to do if the dealer gives you issues and then tell F&I he needs to best it by a 1/4 point or let him match- your call.
  • debstendebsten Member Posts: 3
    Hi,

Just wanted ask what rate you got with Capital one auto financing and if they were good to deal with so far.

    many thanks
  • molumdayuckmolumdayuck Member Posts: 18
The rate I got from Capital one is 5.75 for 60 months. So far they have been very helpful. I ask them what if the dealer won't give me the car until the fund clear. Cap1 told me that the check is guaranteed and have an official stamp on the check. All the dealer has to do is deposit the check and have the money in 24 hours. If they still give me problems, I can call cap1 customer service and they can fax them a guarantee statements that the money is there.

I'll probably play it by ear. If they try to screw me with bank loan (my brother got charge $395 3 years ago) application fee or other things, I use capital one and if they say no, I'll get up and walk. I can wait to get the truck and probably will be a lot cheaper when summer comes.

Honda is offering 4.9% finance. Why choose Cap 1?
  • highlander123highlander123 Member Posts: 29
They didn't reply my email. I believe this is a scam. I have experienced the wrong quote scam from two different Dealer. When send them confirmation email, they just don't reply. What a shame on them.

    Pilotman2,
I don't think your offer is way out of line. We bought our 06 pilot-EXL last week. Sticker price was $35,xxx. We purchased it for $31,900 this The only extras where cross bars, Navi (love), the running boards, wheel locks, and mud guards. Add on the $599.00 dealers fees and you got $32,499. So I don't think you are that far off. I know there are formulas you can follow invoice price (which Edmunds and intellichoice give you) plus invoice price of the options on the vehicle you are looking at. But, to be honest I just look at the bottom price on the sticker. Instead of figuring all that stuff out I immediately subtract 2k, by asking there best price right off the bat. I won't even test drive unless 2K comes off the sticker. After I test drive then the nego start.
My husband then goes to the general manager of the dealership and he got another 2K.
So I think we did very well on our deal. As far as the wood grain I have a guy that all he does is detailing and for $350.00 (labor +materials) he is going to get the Honda wood grain kit and detail the interior for us. Hopes this helps.
Anyone who lives in the Orlando area and would like to know the dealership we went to, we would be glad to let you know. BTW we also had a o4 Sieanna van, whick I loved to death. That vehicle was so smooth!! But I can honestly say with the sunroof, voice activated navi, backup camara, 6-cd changer and leather. I feel a little bit more pampered. And that what it's all about.

How do you know Honda is offering 4.9%? The website only has lease deals from what I can see.

    Thanks

I had a NJ dealer break a deal because he did not want to accept an E-loan check (we had already negotiated a price two days earlier on a 2005 LX). He called to try to get me to finance with him, at a higher rate of course! I wouldn't budge on how I was going to pay so he cancelled the deal and gave me the deposit back. I waited a week and got the Honda finacing that came out around Christmas.

2006 Pilot EX 2WD, from Honda World-Internet Sales, Westminster, CA

36 month 12K lease from Honda Financial
    $30095.00= MSRP
    $27135.00= invoice+destination fee= $550
    $595.00= acquisition fee
    No $1999.00 cap cost reduction
    No $375.00 security deposit
Honda "preferred" money factor 0.00022x2400= 0.528% due to no security deposit
$345/mon= pymt (includes CA $24.82/month tax)
    $322= Lic, doc, etc. fees
    $667.00= drive off

    Residual= $16,552.25= 55%

Got wheel locks, rear mud flaps.

Note: This Saturday I will go with the new 3/1/06 promotion because the money factor is slightly lower than the prior promotion with a new residual at 55% vs the old of 57%.

In my opion these leases are great deals, if you stay within the mileage, because you borrow money at 0.528%, drive the car for three years and if you don't like the car in the end just return it.
