Hi, just came back from a dealer. Got a quote of 36,200 for car..not including tax tags. I want them to throw in lighted running boards at that price.

What do u think? Can I do better? Or am I at Rrock bottom?

    Thanks!!
  • mghondamghonda Member Posts: 3
I would say you at rock bottom when no other dealer can beat your offer.

I got an offer of 35779 OTD (with tax, title, tags, doc, included).
I shopped that offer an someone beat it to 35766.
No other dealer would come into the $35,000, but lots in the $36,000's.
When no one could come down further, I purchased.

Obviously they dont sell at a loss.... Think about it, would you sell something and u end up losing money? What the point of doing business then. Don't trust them when they say we selling it to you and we lose money. Even if they lose money, I believe they can get some incentive at end of month.
  • newbie38newbie38 Member Posts: 15
Thanks for the reply. if i may ask 1 last question:

The prices you posted, does that include $830 destination or does it exclude it?

The reason im asking is that the original qoute i was given excludes it... i was under the impression it was until he called back.

So now the car just went from 36.2 to 37K.

    Thanks again

Understood....that's why I speculated that they have non-public incentives. The dealer I bought my Pilot from never said they were selling it at a loss. There is just a disconnect between what is published as "true dealer cost" and what really is the cost to the dealer. Good luck everyone.

Made my deal. $38,200 OTD. Pick it up Friday. That is with Honda .9% finance. Figure vehicle price is a bit less than $34,997 before tax, tags, destination, etc. That's about $2,720 below Invoice. State is Pennsylvania.

I need to purchase a car for my wife. I've located a 2011 Touring model (2WD) with 23,800 miles on it and is Certified. It seems like a good price at $31,494. But I don't have experience buying used cars and I just hate paying that price without counter offering. This will be a cash deal, no financing and no trade-in. Seems like I could get a little love for that.

Is this a good price and I should shut up and be happy?
  • cptsessocptsesso Member Posts: 116
Tough to say. I too was looking for a used Pilot touring 2010 thru 2012. My result was they are holding their value well and for a few thousand more, why not get a brand new one. You may want to research that route also.
  • newbie38newbie38 Member Posts: 15
Hi All, just wanted to return back and report the price i got on the 2013 Touring.

After much research and assistance from this board i think i got the rock bottom price.

Got it for 35,990 including destination. All i had to pay for was dmv and tax.

Shoot me now if you think i can do better.

    thanks everyone for your help.
  • mghondamghonda Member Posts: 3
    It includes the $830 destination.

You could always say to the dealer that you are ready to do the deal for 36.2 and that you assumed that destination was part of that.
You could also negotiate the dealer doc fees which are completely controlled by the dealer and could be $0.
  • cptsessocptsesso Member Posts: 116
I'm just a bit less than you, so I would say we did very well according to what I have read.

I want to express my gratitude for the existence of this community. The information I picked up here for my last three car purchases has been invaluable! Thanks to all that contribute.

I purchased my Pilot Touring 4WD in Santa Rosa, CA - perhaps the nicest people I have dealt with purchasing a car. I cannot say the same for the Internet staffs in Marin, Vallejo, and El Cerrito. Must have been a busy week for many other dealers who made offers but couldn't find the time to return a phone call or Email in a timely manner (Palo Alto, Oakland) after making competitive offers.

We used TrueCar and CarWoo as well as contacting the Internet Sales teams directly via email (all dealers within 100 miles) to get initial quotes. Overall pricing research was about 2 weeks.

We signed all of our papers Monday July 1. They delivered the car on Wednesday to our house. We paid $35488 plus DMV and Tax with .9% Honda financing.

Again, we are very happy with our Experience with Ben at Manly Honda in Santa Rosa (about 60 miles from our house - with about 6 dealerships in between, if not more!).

    Good luck to everyone!

Can some one please tell me the OTD of Honda Pilot Touring 2013 2WD?
  • civictorycivictory Member Posts: 73
OTD's often aren't helpful unless they are from the same city (or perhaps, state) you plan to purchase in. OTD's can vary considerably around the country due to differences in taxes, doc fees, etc. I'd suggest either concentrating on vehicle price (including destination but minus add-ons) or specifiying the city/state you plan to purchase in to compare OTD's. Otherwise, you're comparing apples to oranges. Good luck!

deepakb, can you tell me which dealer and which salesman you worked with? I live in Dallas and I am planning to buy a pilot.

I bought it from AutoNation Lewisville. Got the internet price from Roger Compton and worked to close the deal with Kevin Choi.
You can give them my Reference.

Looking at EX-L FWD central Florida no options area I am hoping for 30k OTD. Possible?
  • msoberoimsoberoi Member Posts: 3
Can someone please help get me rock bottom price for an EXL 4WD 2013 pilot in NJ?
I emailed a lot of dealers and got quotes; however, when you go to them, its a totally different number that you get.
So far the best I have is $33,850. I was hoping to get around $32 OTD.
Has someone bought this vehicle for this price? Is that a realistic price or no dealer would do it?
    Any help is appreciated.

Looks like someone got a deal http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ef0e959/15446#MSG15446

    $32,350 in Ohio.

I don't know how though. Most of the dealers I have gotten a hold of will do around 32k OTD for the FWD model. I would absolutely take the 4WD model at that price.
  • acegunteracegunter Member Posts: 8
I got the OTD of 32850 in Ohio in June.. I think this price is possible..

I just bought the EX-L 4WD for 32,132 OTD here in MD. Keep haggling and be willing to walk out and things will happen.

Our taxes are 6% here. I posted the breakdown of the deal I got below.

We got it from College Park Honda in College Park, MD. Worked with Edward Jordan. Nice guy. We were there for a good 4-5 hours working out the price of the car and my wife's trade in, but he worked pretty hard to get us a decent price for the trade in and the price we wanted for the car. It all worked out in the end. Here's the breakdown:

    30680 (price plus freight)
    144 (Titling tax)
    20 (Registration fee)
    187 (License fee)
    1402.74 (Tax)
    199 (dealer processing fee)
MINUS 500 (Dealer gives this back to you for financing through Honda)

    TOTAL: 32,132.74

Our tax was lower than expected because of my wife's trade in. I didn't realize that we got a tax break in MD, but apparently we do.

Yes, I just bought a 4WD EXL for 32,000 OTD (Atlanta area). Tell them if they don't meet your price, you will just wait for the 2014s. I did have a 26k trade in though, so taxes weren't that high (saved 1600).
  • msoberoimsoberoi Member Posts: 3
Could you please share details of the dealership / sales person etc?
I am looking for the same 4WD EX-L model but local dealers are quoting higher.. so any help is appreciated.
  • myagentcammyagentcam Member Posts: 1
A local dealer is giving me these terms.

Current car I'm driving: 2009 Pilot EX-L. They are giving us about 19k for it with our previous lease having a 17K payoff.

36 months, 15k miles/year, payment of $367. In essence it seems like we are putting 2k down since our car is a trade in with that extra value. No other money down/out of pocket though.

    This is for a 2013 ex-l.

Can you tell me if this sounds like a good deal?
  • karhill1karhill1 Member Posts: 165
Having purchased multiple Honda vehicles in the DC area, I suggest avoiding College Park Honda. While a fair deal may be possible, they seem, IMHO, to play too many games. Such games often result in many hours to reach a deal. With so many other area dealers, why bother? Check the Internet for reviews.

My experience suggests a successful purchase can often be found at Criswell, Sport, or Pohanka among others.

I just bought a new 2013 EX-L 4WD in NC (3% tax) for $33,000 OTD that the dealership brought in from SC as they did not have the exact vehicle I wanted on the lot. Included in the price is roof rails, premium chrome running boards, window tint, and all-weather mats. I don't remember my exact selling price because I only negotiated OTD with my accessories included in that price. I am glad I read these forums or else I would have never realized how low the dealerships could actually go. I will admit the haggling was not pretty, but I am very satisfied with my price.
  • andymentandyment Member Posts: 7
My wife and I wanted to go to a dealership closer to where we lived, but College Park Honda kept going lower on price and higher on the trade in every time we told them we were going to walk out, so we stayed. Eventually we got to where we wanted to and bought the car, but it took 4-5 hours and we were exhausted by the end. No other dealer would come close to their price, so overall we felt it was worth it.

In terms of games they played, they tried to charge us a $500 "Advertising Fee" and $1000 for wheel locks and door edge guards. I told them I didn't want to pay either of those and they took it off with little resistance. I think if you were less informed, you might just pay the extra charges thinking they were a normal fee, but if you go in well informed, they won't be able to pull one over you.

I am in Northern California. What would be a good price to target for a 4wd touring? I got a lease quote today for $508 including tax with $1050 down. I think this is high and it would be better to buy then lease. Can someone please share some insights? Thanks.
  • mcwenzelmcwenzel Member Posts: 37
I have had multiple quotes under $35,000 in the last several weeks in the SF Bay Area. Lowest was $34,547. Truecar is under $35,000. That's with .9 financing for 60 months.
  • paripari Member Posts: 7
Thanks for your reply. Dealers for some reason have been hesitating giving me quotes via email. The first quotes were 36k+ asking me to come in for the best deal. In anyways good to know your numbers. I'll shoot for something similar. Will keep this thread updated.

Sold our previous vehicle on our own in the evening on Tues 9/3. Was concerned that we might have missed the summer sales incentives (ended 9/3).

Stopped in at the local dealer (NH seacoast area) on Thursday 9/5 and they had apparently had a meeting earlier in the day to discuss what new incentives were avalible.

Told them we wanted a 2013 Pilot EX-L 4wd. Without any negotiation at all they came back with a price $31,449 out the door (for any of the EX-Ls on the lot). That price includes the $500 rebate as long as we use the .9% financing. All fees are included in the at price. (note that there is no sales tax in NH).

Tried shopping other dealers in the area, a few would match but none would beat that price.

Ended up asking for a color that they did not have on the lot and they are going to get us the color we want at the above quoted price.

Based on the research I have done I think we are getting a good deal.

Best of luck to all the others out shopping.

    Hello

I'm in NH also and have been looking for a reasonable price on a EX-L 4WD Pilot. Could you please tell me who the dealer is?

What color are you getting? I'm looking for a Black exterior with Black Leather interior, but apparently most dealers do not carry that... Is this the same color you ordered?

    Help appreciated.. Thanks
    Max

    The dealer is Dover Honda.

We wanted white, which is apparently not that popular.

Honda does not offer black leather in the black ex-l you have to go up to the touring to get black/black. http://automobiles.honda.com/pilot/colors.aspx

    Good luck.

Hi, I'm in Southern NH, and got a quote from a dealer today. $35,270 for an EXL minus $1,300 incentives (includes $500 financing discount) PLUS $400 in destination charges. That's $34,370 total. Almost $3k more than what Dover Honda quoted you. We are considering a car in their current inventory. Anything that I'm missing before we go back to negotiate a second time? Thanks for your help!!

A reporter is looking to talk with someone who is in the market right now for a big SUV. If you think you can help, please contact pr@edmunds.com by the end of the day on Wednesday, September 11, 2013.
  • prp77prp77 Member Posts: 3
    Suzie44,

At $31,449 for a EX-L 4wd they are still making money (others that posted here bought for less). Tell the dealer to come down to at least that price or go elsewhere.

We also went to the dealer in Saco, ME. They would match $31,449, but not go lower, and that was for what they had in stock. To get a white one would cost an extra $350.

Good luck, and please post back how you made out.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has purchased either a EXL or Touring 2013 in Southwestern PA in the last past few months. How much they paid OTD.
