i have a 2004 crossfire and i want it to look different than other crossfires. i was wondering if anyone knows of a grill that is available to be purchased..
  • rdotsonrdotson Member Posts: 5
About six weeks ago, I bought a "new" '04 Crossfire (6 speed) and, so far, I've enjoyed this little car as much (or more) than anything I've owned over the years (the list includes several Bentleys, a Rolls, a Maserati, a Citroen, Mustangs, Lincolns, and many others)! For a purchase price of $23,800, there is NOTHING that comes close in value!

Being the inveterate tinkerer that I am with all my vehicles, I immediately began to look for "bolt on" accessories to give just a little more "oomph" (though, stock is pretty impressive!) and to date have done three things:

    1) K&N Filters (takes two #33-2290) - order from anywhere!

    2) InaZma HyperVoltage System (mfgd by Sun of Japan) (available from link title- they have been just super to deal with - responsive, helpful, etc.- go to the website and you can read about the system). A friend of mine with an '04 Mazda RX8 added one to her car with similar results - a bit more torque, smoother and faster accelerator response!

    3) MagneCor KV85 Competition Ignition Wires - part #65211(link title- custom made per order) - great service!

All of these items have improved the performance of my CF without question! The biggest effect came with the installation of #2 (parts were installed a few days to weeks apart in the order noted above).

To DIEHL: Check out link title - they carry some nice aftermarket parts (cosmetic/appearance and performance) - they list a chrome grill for the CF which looks great! I have NOT ordered from them yet, so cannot speak to their service...

I have NO financial interest in any of these companies (darn it!)!

You are correct that the tires are not run-flats. You stated you bought tires for the vehicle. Since there is no room for a spare,if you have a blow-out on the highway at about 2 A.M.What are you going to do? The majority of garages will not even bother to come out. The craze on this car is gone. I live in NE, most dealers here will not even bother to stock the car.. Even with the rebate, they are not selling and its summer. I feel chrysler gave very little thought about the tire issue. Nissan is having the same problem with the 350Z. I wish you luck with your car.

Would like to change the air filters to K&N on an '05 Limited but can't figure out how to get to them and wonder if there will be a noticeable increase.
Does the silver plastic engine cover come off? If so how is it done?
Someone said you might get a computer generated engine message when they are installed.
    Has anyone encountered this?
    Thanks

The entire air filter/cover unit just pops off - it's held by a simple friction catch at each corner... Lay it upside down on a towel or blanket to protect the painted service and unscrew the screws holding each airbox together - remove existing paper filters - insert K&Ns and reassemble... Air filter/cover simply pops back in position with moderate pressure...
    Enjoy!

Forgot... This did not generate an engine message on my '04 which I think is the same as the '05 Limited... Good luck!

Just a helpful thing I recently purchased from Griot's (item #10186, $99.99): a pneumatic oil/liquid extractor! Wiith our XFs, you can remove 99+% of the oil cleanly and virtually effortlessly through the oil dipstick tube using the "extractor"! The filter is easily reached at the fron of the engine, so there is no need to get under the car and get dirty! You just need to let the engine cool down so that you avoid any possiblity of damage to the plastic parts (tho' they are very tough). It removes 5 quarts at a time using a simple hook up to your compressor... Love it!
Filters (Mercedes boxes, of course) are available from the dealers' parts counters - less than $8/each! Have fun!

    Thanks much.
I thought that may be the answer buttttttt rather than destroy the plastic cover I decided to ask. Pretty simple operation at that!
Have you rotated your tires yet? How are they holding up?
Mine are the All Season type and I hope they work in the snow.

I have Contis on mine and they seem to run very well - Thought they were rough when I took delivery of the car and discovered that they were inflated to 46 psi! Needless to say, that's a bit over-spec. I only have about 1700 miles on the car so far - too early to know how they'll hold up!?! The pattern appears a though it should do OK in snow... If things get too bad, then into the Denali...

Has any one tried one of the electric turbos from ebay if so how is it?
Also just curious of some of the"facts" of the crossfire i have one and i know that it has traction control and brake stabilizers and that the hp to wt ratio is 14.2:1. So in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile did they turn off the traction control and set it for standard driving conditions? A friend with a 05 mustang gt said he lost to a limited crossfire.

Has anyone experienced a problem with not being able to retract the roadster's top? My car has less than 300 miles on it and the top will no longer retract. The dealer has had the car for a couple of weeks and they are unable to fix the top. DaimlerChrysler has sent a Field Technician to the dealer but he too has been unable to fix the problem. I have had very poor response from the delearship and not a great deal of interest from Chrysler corporate. If the car is not fixed soon it will meet the "lemon law" requirements in my state. Any info would be appreciated.

There is a dealer by my house that has 2 new 05 Crossfires for $26,999 down from 35,500 MSRP. This makes me wonder since they aren't taking a lose on this car what is a Crossfire really worth? 23-25K or something? Why even try to sell the car for 35K if it isn't even really a 30K car right?
  • beliverbeliver Member Posts: 155
nissan350z: Gm has always tried to sell THEIR cars for more than they are worth, a big part of the MESS they are in. The big "3" are all guilty of this. Their method of "price 'em high & sell 'em @ a big discount" destroys resale value and causes buyers to always want more and more off MSRP when they deal.

This insanity has got to stop if GM etal ever hope to gain back any of the market share they have lost over the years to the imports.

Are you sure they aren't demos?

Last I saw, employee pricing was about $31K-$32K, and there was a $1K rebate.. So, either the rebate just went way up, or something else is up..

$27K would be a steal for an '05... assuming you actually want one..

  • nissan350znissan350z Member Posts: 81
Yes I am sure they are not demos. They are both black and auto same options. I am not in the market for one since I have the 04 350Z, but did look at them before I bought the 350Z last summer. I just wonder with the GTOs and Crossfires are so cheap new why even price that high in the first place. Even last summer after the hype was over with the Crossfire people were getting good deals.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 263,389
Yeah.. since my last message, I've seen a local dealer ad... The rebate has just been raised to $3000.. So, employee pricing minus the $3K rebate...

Domestic car makers started the whole rebate thing.. .Now, they can't sell a car without them... They've painted themselves into a corner...

Although I realize a black car is almost impossible to keep clean, my black 05' limited convertible really looks sharp. I have noticed, however, that the paint job, with only 7000 miles on it, looks like other cars I've owned that had 20000 miles of wear. And the windshield clarity is the worst I've ever driven behind, tiny little stars (not created by stones) covering every square inch of the glass. Is this typical with Chrysler Products? Does anyone know if this type of flaw is covered under the factory warranty?
  • myxfiremyxfire Member Posts: 8
This may be a dumb question but, have you changed anything in the trunk? The panel has to be up for the top to retract. Some of the dealers didn't even know about this.
  • myxfiremyxfire Member Posts: 8
I had take back to dealer to have tape replaced because of wrinkles. They did the job and gave me a rental for a couple of days, but noticed this weekend when washing, that it's starting again. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Also, my husband has found out about a special product for the cloth top. It's put on when they make the top and should be used later to clean and to protect for the seams. If anyone wants to know
I'll find out the name. Had my windshield replaced so to stone hitting it. Seems to be ok now.
  • mrphxmrphx Member Posts: 8
I'm not clear what you mean by decal tape. I've been a little disappointed with the fit and finish of my Roadster Limited and would appreciate understanding what you mean by decal tape. And I would like to know the name of product you mentioned for use on the ragtop.

Test drove a 2005 Crossfire Roadster Limited. Loved it!!! Dealership Manager stated "if you buy it today, I'll give it to you for $15,000 off sticker". Sticker is $40,180! Can they really sell a $40K car for $25K???? :surprise: It sounded WAY TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE...AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY......... What is the residual on this vehicle (manual)? Thanks. (Haven't leased it yet!)
  • mrphxmrphx Member Posts: 8
If the sticker was over $40K then the car must be equipped with an automatic transmission, two tone leather heated power seats, and a GPS System. At $25K it's a steal, buy it. MSRP less "The Deal" would bring the cost down to approximately $34K. Good luck

I just purchased a new 2004. Sat on the lot for over a year. I paid 23020.00 out the door (with a 2004 kia optima trade). Stick was 35400.00 (w/auto trans, 2-tone int and heated seats). On paper they listed the car at a flat 28000.00. 7400.00 off sticker and with the trade I had, I thought was a pretty good deal at 23020.00 OTD.
I thought about the 350z, the fit was to tight (me being 6'2" and 245-lbs). The crossfire has good room for me. Lacks the power at 35000.00 but at 28000.00 it's got enough for me. The style does it for me. I have had the car for 3 weeks now and I have only seen 3 others. This is what I was looking for, being noticed and that is what this car does for me.
I am not a sticker kind of guy so I took the dealer name off the car, also took the CROSSFIRE (no-no? maybe, but I will have this car for a while) off so that people would not know what the car is. I get a lot of people asking me what it is.

When the top is down you see the black finish that runs around the deck
lid. You might think it's flat paint but it's tape. It's about four inches from the door locks. They fixed mine and it looked great for a couple of weeks. It's starting to do it again. I've been told not to use any kind of silicone. The product that we found for the rag top is used by the people who make the rag tops, but I've been told I can't give the name of product on this site. The product also, has a UV protection, and keeps it from mildew and keeps the new look. I guess you can e-mail me, or if I have yours I'll try to give you some more ideas of where to find help re: what you might try.

You can name products here, at least as far as our policies are concerned. You can check the Rules of the Road on the left side of the page for specific guidelines on what may and may not be posted. If you have further questions, feel free to email me or your host Claires. :)

I just bought an '05 Roadster Limited w/3k miles for 28k, and am deliriously happy. I'd intended to buy a Thunderbird as a stablemate for my 1959 'Bird , but the Ford's suspension was beyond horrible. After auditioning a TT and a Z3, I settled on the Chrysler. It was the perfect combination of looks, feel, and individuality. As a fan of the '61-'63 Thunderbird Sport Roadster, the top mechanism may have closed the deal for me! I , too, have the 'decal tape' issue others have noticed. Hope there's a good fix for this.
There's no way to get Sirius Radio while retaining the factory look, is there ?
One other quibble; Lifting the shifter knob to go into reverse, I pulled the whole knob and boot clean off. It popped right back, but for a minute there I felt like Curly right after Moe ordered him to "Throw out the Clutch !"
  • p1ferrarip1ferrari Member Posts: 1
My biggest problem was the fact I thought it was over priced. Like Lutz said, anyone can build a car for over $30k. I think this could be more successful if starting price was around the $20k mark. However, if Chrysler wants to bring on the Firepower, bring it on! I wish there was more coupes out there, but please bring out a $25k model so I can buy it.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 263,389
Local dealer near me had an '05 Crossfire convertible.. 6-speed manual... marked down to $27K.... This week, has the Crossfire Limited convertible priced at $33K...

So, actual selling prices aren't that far away...

    Hi,
10/3/05 is the last day I can get a great deal on a black base model Crossfire. I took the car for a test drive Thursday and told the dealer no sale because of the safety issue with the blindsopts, especially on the right side. You really are blind switching lanes etc to the right. I love the car otherwise and have had second thoughts since I turned down the car. I was wondering how others have dealt with the visibility issues (blindspots) etc with this car. Is there anything you can do to help this problem etc?

    Thanks!
  • xfiredadxfiredad Member Posts: 3
I have the same model and cured the blind spot problem with a set of the "autobahn mirrors". They work exceptionally well, but are a couple of ugly additions. After cutting off a Harley rider I decided they were better than facing down an irate biker.
  • rabidraiderrabidraider Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the info. I just bought a 2004 leftover so I will need to do something regarding the blindspots. I checked out the Autobahn mirrors and was wondering how you mounted them. Did you remove the stock rearview mirror?

    Thanks again
  • xfiredadxfiredad Member Posts: 3
I left the stock mirror on the car. I find that I don't use it that much though. The autobahn mirrors have the sticky tape that adheres to the windshield. I put them on a level even with the outside mirrors and adjusted them to see the blindspot. :shades: My passengers do complain that they see themselves in the mirror and they aren't happy. I don't care cause they are usually pretty good looking to me!!
  • mccoy2mccoy2 Member Posts: 2
I have learned to trust what I see out of my passenger side mirror. I have it adjusted so that it covers the "blind spot".I have been driving my crossfire for seven months, and have had no problem changing lanes.
  • mccoy2mccoy2 Member Posts: 2
My windshield is also marked with what looks like scratches and pit marks from sand. I also notice that it is impossible to get rid of the haze when the sun is shining thru the glass. I suspect the film between the safety glass is not as clear as it should be. I, too, wonder if this is a warranty issue.
  • cissycissy Member Posts: 1
I put on those little blind spot mirrors that just stick on the OEM side mirrors. I have them set and adjusted and so far have had no problems.......but it can be nerve-wracking LOL.
  • mickster2mickster2 Member Posts: 7
Has anyone else had a problem with first gear jumping out and scaring the crud out of you? Dealer is working on it but even after a new transmission (?) it still happens about 3 times a week.
  • dobrodobro Member Posts: 9
    1) Does anyone know how I can get Crossfire luggage ? I bought my Roadster Limited used, so...

    2) I notice reviews and photos depicting a glass wind deflector between the headrests. What gives ?

Check ebay, I have seen them on auction from time to time expect to pay about $150.00 on average. There is a wind screen available for the Xfire Roadster. there are various manufacturers, but the Mopar Wind Screen is the best (IMHO).
  • donsmith84donsmith84 Member Posts: 1
    1. According to our local Chrysler dealership you need to call a Mr. Tad Smith at:
248-925-5310. The company is ALCONE. Last I heard was that the price was $600.00 for the 3-piece set. I put it on my Christmas list.

    2. Regarding the glass wind deflector. The rationale is that when you drive at certain slow speeds the car's vortex creates a back-draft which really gets the women highly perturbed (toned that one down). Bottom line is that it screws up their hair. Some ingenious engineer figured out that the wind deflector between the headrests would cause the back-draft to be deflected elsewhere. I think it is a waste of money. The idea of a convertible is to "feel the wind". Most ladies will adjust

Thanks so much for the luggage info.Six hundred clams is a mite steep, but maybe Santy will hook me up, too.

In the UNBELIEVABLE bargain department,UPS just delivered my Crossfire console humidor. They're blowing these out for $99. The cutter alone is worth that much , and the beautiful Promethius torch even says "Chrysler Crossfire"!
The humie itself is excellent. Spanish cedar, recessed hinges, and cosmetically ON THE MONEY. Fits in the console , still leaving room for my shades and cell phone.
    A-plus!

    "In the UNBELIEVABLE bargain department"

A week ago I saw an ad in our local paper offering all remaining 2005 Crossfires for $10,000 off MSRP. This morning they are offering them for $12,500 off MSRP! The picture in the paper is a roadster, so I guess they are included.

    WOW! :)

Okay... so I am a newbie on the page - just want to introduce myself. I am Benjamin, 23 from Tacoma, WA. Traded in my 2004 VW Jetta Turbo for my Crossfire and do not regret it at all. I got my 2004 Limited Coupe w/ an aftermarket sunroof and tint for $26500.

Blind spot issue was on my mind for a day, but you learn to live with it. I am 6'3 so it's a little harder to see around the car, but I am dealing with it :) Just the sound alone when starting the car and downshifting from 5th to 3rd at 60MPH makes my pants wet!

Couple ??'s - Where can I get clear sidemarkers and chrome mirror covers??

I want to store my car for the winter. Dealer says remove battery or start it up once a month for 15 minutes. Manual says remove tires so I don't get flat spots. What's a girl to do?

Also my low tire pressure light has come on about 5 times. I check pressure and 4 times out of 5 it was right on. I had to add air once. Has anybody else experienced this?

    I LOVE MY CAR!!
