I recently purchases a used 2007 crossfire roadster with 10,700 miles on it. Do you think I should buy an extended warranty on it from the dealer or via the internet. Would be interested in hearing from others who purchased an extended warranty for a crossfire.

    thank you
  • riddleboxriddlebox Member Posts: 46
Shop around on the internet, then go to your dealer. When I advised them I
could get their same contract via the internet cheaper, they beat that price.

Extended warranties are a huge profit for dealers, so there is bargaining room.

I bought an extended warranty for my 2006 Dodge Caravan from CNA Warranty. I haven't had any claims but I paid $890 for a 5 year/70k mile warranty that covers the powertrain and major components (A/C, suspension, etc.). Good luck.

When I first got my Crossfire two or three times I caught myself turning off the lights past verticle so that I had left the "marker lights" on. The marker lights are hard to detect and impossible to see in the daytime.
Since there is no observable detent on the main headlight switch at the vertical (all lights off) position off, this may why you have a slow battery draw down. Just a thought. ......Bob

Hi laurawesty! My 2004 Chrysler Crossfire has been turning off on me when I am driving. What did you do about it?
  • 04xfirefan04xfirefan Member Posts: 2
    Hello there,

My wife's 04 was doing the same thing. It turned out being the camshaft position detector. If you can, replace it yourself. You can order it online for about $30, and it's only held in place by 2 small bolts and the connecting cable. Took me about 20 minutes to do, and if you take it to a Crossfire technician, you will be charged a minimum of 1 hour maintenance fee, plus over $100 for the part.
  • chytown69chytown69 Member Posts: 2
Thank you so much! I'll look into it today!!! What site did you order it?

I just bought a used 2005 Base Crossfire convertible. I live in Pa, near New Jersey. Does anyone have a place they take their crossfire for regular maintenance that they like, trust and are not gouged on pricing?
  • ulmanconn1ulmanconn1 Member Posts: 2
7-3-09 Does anyone know where I can get a used set of headlights and a left rear taillight for a 2005 convertible. The headlights are "fogged up" and I am told I need to order the entire headlight assembly at $400+ each and a left rear headlight. Also, I have heard that the front light fogging is a fairly common problem with the crossfire? Anyone else have a problem with it and, if so, what did u do about it?

I'm looking at buying this car from someone that says it's okay in the snow. I know rear-wheel drive is not the best for snow, but I drove a rwd car all last winter with minimal problems. I would invest in a good pair of snow tires if I got it.
My question is if anyone has driven this car through a winter, and if so, how did it do?
  • riddleboxriddlebox Member Posts: 46
Yes - it is a common problem. There was a TSB issued about this. Mine were replaced under warranty. I have never heard of any problems with the rear lights, though.
  • riddleboxriddlebox Member Posts: 46
I drive mine 365 days a year. Depending on how much snow you get, you should be fine. Remember, this car sits fairly low to the ground so I wouldn't suggest plowing through high drifts. I drove mine for two winters on the Conti all-seasons, but I don't have many hilly areas to drive and they are pretty good about plowing. Use the "W" setting if you have the auto transmission - it really works.

 What better place to ask but here... I need to know the best overall weather tire for my Crossfire. Living in Michigan I need the best tire for my car for winter driving. Thanks for any input you can offer.

I own a 2005 Crossfire convertible and the rear window is falling out. Other than replacing the top (if it can be found) has anyone had this same problem and come up with a permanent solution to reattaching the window? It only has 13,500 miles and I really enjoy it.

    Help me, please...

The same thing happeningt to me. Did you ever get it fixed? And, how?

I have a deposit on a 2008 with 5000 miles on it. I was wondering if the nav unit is available or of any use. does it look the same as the original radio. I put a deposit over the phone but didn't actually see the car in person but did see pictures. Maybe it has the Nav. It does have the cd 6 speaker AM FM data upgrade. Any help would be great! Ron
  • riddleboxriddlebox Member Posts: 46
The NAV is displayed on the face of the radio. You can tell right away by looking at the radio if you have Nav. If you do NOT have it, there will be a blank blacked out button in the middle of the row of buttons that run along the top of the radio (among those marked "AM", "FM", "CD", etc). The Nav discs are a few years old and there were/are no plans to update them so any new locations are not on them. I wouldn't go out of my way to find a Crossfire with NAV. It's not worth the extra money, mine just happened to have it. At least it knows where my house is. I might not be able to find where I am going, but I guess if I get lost I can find my way home!

I had the same problem, reported it to my insurance company and they attempted to get it resealed (didn't work) and then had a new top made for it. They paid all but the deductable.

I had my first oil change on a 2005 crossfire I recently bought, with 40,000 miles. I had it done at a Firestone dealer, and they used 8 quarts of "full synthetic oil," and changed the filter. But, they didn't specificy that they used Mobil, or a particular brand of fuel filter. Should I be nervous about this? Thanks very much. Ronlaw777
  • riddleboxriddlebox Member Posts: 46
I would be finding out which brand of oil they used and which weight. I highly doubt
that a Firestone dealer would carry Mobil 1 , let alone 0W-40. I would also ask about the oil filter. You want a fleece filter. And most Crossfires take at least 8 1/2 quarts oil, sometimes 9. Definitely check the oil level - and look at the quality of oil on the dipstick.
I would be concerned if they even changed the filter at all - you might want to look at that as well.
Next time buy an oil extractor and do it yourself. Everything you need to get to is
on top of the engine. Super easy.

Just buy 8 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 and a NAPA 7078 filter and do it yourself. Fun to do !

    Good Afternoon Chariot,

I too have an unheated garage that I store my 07 roadster in during the winter. I am sure there are many methods but I shall share my approach, so feel free to use/discard what you wish.

1#. I had an OLF completed
2#. Filled the tank with gas and added fuel stabilizer
3#. Parked the car placing the wheels upon 1/4 inch plywood to keep them off the cement
4#. Installed a trickle charger/battery tender – pulled electrical cord up toward windsheild
5#. Stuffed the tail pipes with rags and scented fabric softener sheets to deter mice
6#. Unscrewed the antenna and put in trunk (also put in a couple of fabric softener sheets)
7#. Placed an indoor denim cover (I was gifted this lovely cover – thanks Harold!!!)
8#. Placed fabric softener sheets on top of the cover and around the car on the floor
9#. Distributed mice bait along outside walls of garage (inside the garage)
10#. Placed moth balls along foundation of garage (on the outside)

I hope you find this response useful and I wish you continued enjoyment of your Crossfire – I know I sure love mine!!!

    Cheryl

I bought a used (2005) Crossfire, but it has no spare tire. What does one do here? Are there small (temporary) spare tires available like other cars? Thanks. Ron
  • tooshaytooshay Member Posts: 13
    Good Afternoon Ronlaw777,

To the best of my knowledge none of the Crossfires have spare tires. I am going to speculate that they don't as the front tires are 18 inch and the back are 19 inch and if there were room for a spare tire, one would technically need two of the different sizes.

I believe I read in this forum that they are run flats (do I have that worded correctly? or is that flat runs?). I can't verify this but I am sure one of the forum contributors will clarify. Additionally, beneath the carpeted area in the trunk you should find a couple of cavities that contain a canister/applicator that is for use when you get a flat. Exactly what the canister contains is beyond me. Having said that, I am curious if tires that are filled with nitrogen can accept the contents of the canister? Perhaps someone can clarify this.

Something of note: My tires are filled with nitrogen and they came with a warranty. This summer I ran over a screw and took it to the dealership immediately. They repaired the tire and the fee was covered under the nitrogen warranty - a lovely surprise. (footnote- you have to take your car to the dealership where you purchased the nitrogen warranty or it will not be covered).

I hope this information is helpful,
    Cheryl

They do not come with Run-Flats.
  • riley34riley34 Member Posts: 12
I have not been able to find run-flats in the sizes the Crossfire requires. There is a doughnut type temporary spare on the Mercedes counterpart but have never been able to confirm it could be used on the Crossfire. The only answer to a flat I have found is the pump/gunk Chrysler provides with a cell phone and AAA as back-up.

I have my awesome crossfire I LOOOOOOOOOVe it , "Bad Idea" except for the cup holder.
The pluses about the car are so many that it would take too long to list.

im trying to do an oil change and I bought an oil extractor but no hose will fit into where the oil filter goes in. Any help or suggestions?
  • zq8zq8 Member Posts: 82
It is to be put in the dipstick tube. I would NOT do it that way if I were you. Just drain it, I do on mine. EASY.
  • riddleboxriddlebox Member Posts: 46
Why not? I know several Crossfire owners (including myself) that use
the oil extractors. I know the big debate is that the extractors really don't
remove all the gunk on the bottom of the pan, etc. But since I learned that
all the Mercedes dealers are using the extractor, I figure that's O.K. with me.

Will not get it all out. Not for me.

My wife's Crossfire would not start and the Spoiler extended when she turned on the ignition. I checked out the battery and found the positive lead at the battery was severely corroded, even to the point that the insulation had split and the stranded wires had greatly expanded. So, to disconnect the opposite end of the cable requires removal of a plastic shield.

The question is...how to disconnect the shield without damage?

After 4 years my battery (original from dealership) finally gave up.Trying to replace it I removed the two battery cables (positive, negative). That was easy enough, but when I started to remove the battery itself, I found that it was not coming out. I looked all around the battery and battery location and found no fastener or screws that was holding the battery down. Does any one have any idea on how to remove the battery from the car so I can replace it with a new one. The only hold down I saw was the one on top of the battery, but after removing it, the battery was still not budging. Any ideas what could possibly be holding the battery still. It's really stuck, and unmovable.
  • jas07jas07 Member Posts: 1
I just replaced my wife's 2006 Crossfire battery. Once you unbolt the top bracket and remove the positive and negative cables move the battery a bit forward. The OEM battery fits underneath a small hold-down.

You should be able to remove the battery at this point.

I purchased a new battery at SEARS. The replacement battery was shorter requiring a spacer to add height so the top retaining bracket would tighten. The replacement battery was about $130.00.

Yes...having trouble with being able to turn the key in the ignition...what did you do with your situation???
    Thanks, Sam
  • tooshaytooshay Member Posts: 13
    Good Morning Sam,

When I broached the ignition challenge with the dealership there were unable to duplicate the problem (as per usual - huge grin!) They did provide some advice that has been most helpful; press the brake pedal and turn the steering wheel while trying to turn the key all at the same time- the combination seems to work for me each time. I used to try your approach, but combining the brake pedal seems to be a critical piece - why - I have not a hot clue. I have been told by a friend (who owns a Crossfire as well) that the security codes within the key and the ignition have to match up and when they don't, the system ceases as in our case. I hope this information is helpful and should you happen to find an alternative fix, please let me know.

    Sincerely,
    Cheryl

So many of us are having a problem with the steering wheel locking when trying to start with ignition key that someone must have come up with a permanent fix. I fiddle around for what seems like an internaty and it will finally re lease. If I ever wanted to sell this car, as beautiful as it is, no one would buy it. My wife won't drive it.
  • debbiek_69debbiek_69 Member Posts: 2
I too have had this same issue and at times started to panic due to the length of time it took me to get it un-locked. I also called the dealership and did the same steps as Cheryl mentioned above. Also I have noticed that when you park your car to make sure the wheels are straight and the steering wheel is completely straight as well this has help a lot. If you find out a permanent fix, please posted it as I would love to know as well.
