Why does my horn (Mazda CX-7) honk in the middle of the night?

Has anyone experienced the horn (maybe alarm system) honking at random times when the car is not running? It's a quick series of 4 or 5 loud beeps, and I only notice it happening in the middle of the night. It used to happen maybe once every month or two and I thought it was someone else in the neighborhood. Now it's happening almost nightly and I'm sure my neighbors are ready to tar and feather me. Any thoughts or remedies would be greatly appreciated!

Father John does make house visits. Horns going off in the middle of the night is his specialty.

Father John says if you have a glass or motion sensor it may need to be adjusted or replaced.

Father john says if you have something in your vehicle that moves when vehicles go by can cause the sensor to react.

Maybe your horn honks because it's saying "Hi" to ducks and geese as they pass by.

I would say alarm-related. Hooking up a scanner might reveal something.

Random problems like this are tough. The horn pad is an input to the BCM, and the BCM commands the relay by providing a ground for the relay anytime the horn is to be sounded. You could try un-pinning the black wire connector #3 pin H and see if the horn still randomly sounds. That would at least divide the circuit into two pieces, the steering column and its harness, as opposed to anything else that would cause the BCM to sound the horn. Trouble codes if set in one of the modules might help, but only to help narrow the focus.
