It will depend on where the car is registered at.

"" if I buy the warranty online using my NY address will it be valid in Fla? ""

My understanding is that a honda vehicle service contract purchased at any honda dealer would/should be valid at any honda dealer across the country regardless of where the owner lives.
  • jb_turnerjb_turner Member Posts: 702
    Not for CA or FLA.
  • accordguy0325accordguy0325 Member Posts: 169
Can you explain this a bit further ? Does CA / FLA have some sort of law that prohibits the use of a honda vsc in those states if purchased elsewhere ?
  • nortsr1nortsr1 Member Posts: 1,060
I can only tell you my experience. I have a house in FL and one in NJ. I bought a PT crusier in 2006 in FL. My DL and registration were the FL. address. I purchased a Chrysler OEM warranty online from a dealer in (I believe Iowa) and used my NJ address.
When you purchase the online warranty they do not ask you for your driver's license address or registration address. I did everything online and used the warranty and ALSO the service warranty several times (oil change/filters,etc.)in FLORIDA. No questions asked. I have to assume that other people have also done the same.

No, they do not. The Honda VSC is good at any Honda dealer in the country.

What Florida has is a law stating that service contracts may not be purchased out of state for Florida residents. It does not say that service contracts purchased outside of the state can not be used in Florida.

If you have a legal address outside the state of Florida, Honda will sell you a service contract and it will be good at Florida dealers.

The California law is a little more vague. So some online dealers stopped selling there while others did not.

A Philly metro dealer was willing to price match +$100 the lowest internet price I could find, which was $1,235 from the Rhode Island Honda dealer often mentioned on this forum. They were great to work with and responded the next day with their price match counteroffer. Thought this was a great way to leverage the potential internet competition while also eliminating potential issues with Honda corporate if the Honda Care contract was bought from a "problem" dealer.

There's really no such issue as "problem" dealers. The contract is issued from the Honda corporate offices in California no matter which dealer it is purchased from. Your VIN number goes into the national database so all dealers can see you have the coverage.

    Hello all

I just bought a 96 month, 120,000 mile total vehicle warranty from Bernardi Honda online for $ 930.00 with a $ 100.00 deductible. I chose the payment plan which equaled out to $ 117.00 down *included a 24.00 service fee* , and roughly $ 69.00 a month for 12 months interest free.

They also threw in a $ 30.00 gift certificate towards Bernardi Honda parts which I intend to use for touch up paint- etc.

I just went online on Bernardi Honda website and it said that it does not sell warranties to people who have California addresses and that I have to purchase it through an in-state dealer! That makes no sense since the vehicle is identified by its VIN and not the state of registration. Can some one shed light on this in case they have also encountered this problem? I was quoted $995 for 8/100,000 or $1095 8/120,000 by a dealer in Louisiana. thanks!
  • tallman1tallman1 Member Posts: 1,874
California and Florida have restricted sales of online warranties. Blame the state in which you live, not Bernardi.
  • kamster50kamster50 Member Posts: 5
If I purchase an extended warranty online from any Honda dealer in the US(I live in CA) before Nov. 2, will AHM service department honor the warranty if and when I need it? I just bought my brand new 2009 Accord less than a month back.
    Thanks!
  • accordguy0325accordguy0325 Member Posts: 169
As long as you act before Nov 2, 2009 you'll be able to purchase the warranty online-(unless you live in California or Florida which is forbidden based on the laws of those states) which is then routed through Honda corporate (I believe in California of all places) and your warranty will be set up so that all Honda dealers can see you have coverage. You should also receive a welcome package from Honda USA regarding your warranty including ID cards for service/ roadside assistance/ etc.

Some believe the law in CA regarding service contracts is vague, so some dealers have chosen not to sell contracts in CA while others continue to do so. Here's an online dealer that does for example:

    http://www.collegehillshonda.com/hondacare/warranty.htm

And yes, any contract that you purchase before November 2nd will be valid. You actually receive your paperwork from the corporate office no matter which dealer it is purchased from. It's all the same, just priced differently.

Do you advise and extended warrenty for the above? Honda wants $1800 for 60/60 with no deductible. Any experience with aftermarket warrenties like Alpha Warrenty Services? Is a warrenty really needed?

    TIA

Hi, I am new to this forum. I bought the extended warranty at the dealership in San Diego. The price is $1895 for 6yr/80,000miles, and I pay $200 more to have 0 deductible.
So total is $2095. I didn't research this forum before I bought.
After I saw other people's post, I am not sure if I bought too expensive, so I called the dealership, and they told me this is an EXCLUSIVE warranty, (like bumper to bumper or sth like that). So I am wondering if the extended warranties that people bought on line are exclusive warranties too or it just covered some parts or they are actually the same?
The dealship said that if I can find some other dealership who sells the same contract for lower price, they can try to match it, but where can I find those contracts?
I tried to link to the webpage given in the previous thread
http://www.collegehillshonda.com/hondacare/warranty.htm for honda civic excluded hybrid. But the pdf link is not valid.

Can anyoneo kindly tell me if $2095 for an exclusive warranty a reasonable price?
Or even if it is exclusive warranty, the price should be below $1000?

I just got the VSC today, on page 2. Coverage section, in A. PARTS section, it says
" All VEHICLE parts are covered by this CONTRACT, subject to the therms and conditions herein and EXCEPT AS EXCLUDED BY ARTICLE IV. so in the later pages, there are LOTS of exceptions written in article IV."
Is everyone's VSC the same as mine and is less expensive?

    Thanks for reading.

For what it's worth (FWIW) department"

I regret to say this but I purchased online a Honda Care Extended Warranty (HCEW) from Ray Laks Honda for about $580. Add $3.50 for postage. He has a web site - which is: wwwhondacuraworld.com. 1-888-RAY-LAKS M-F 7AM-3:30PM EST.

I hear you amigo, the delivering dealer wanted $1800 for the same 6/80,000 HCEW)

Sadly, this was some time back (and things may have changed - - - not necessarily for the good of the consumer)

    all the best, ez....

There are warranties available online. But after Nov. 2, 2009, Honda dealers are not allowed to sell warranties online. Also, many dealerships don't sell warranties to CA residents. Try calling Moss Honda in Louisiana. Don't know if they will give you a written quote. Also try Poway Honda...they quoted me $2,600 initially, but were willing to come down to $1,500 for a 8yr/100,000 mile warranty. As far as the warranty from Honda, I think it's pretty standard. I haven't read the book, but I think it's pretty comprehensive. Good luck!
  • kamster50kamster50 Member Posts: 5
If you can find a good price online and they are willing to sell it to a CA resident, you need to cancel your current warranty PRONTO-you should fax the cancellation paperwork to the number on it. It takes a few days to do that. Then only can you purchase a new contract. So time is of essence! Of course, if your dealer matches the price, then great.
Also, your dealer might tell you that the contract you purchase online is not the same as what they are selling. As long as it is Honda Care, it is the same everywhere.

They have a separate link for honda civic hybrids. Looks like they sell a $0 deductible Honda Care 6 year/80K for $720.

Just click here and scroll down to Civic Hybrid:

    http://www.collegehillshonda.com/hondacare/warranty.htm

I've never heard the term "Exclusive" in relation to Honda Care. It sounds like something the dealer made up so they can keep $1,300 of profit.

Honda Care and Acura Extended Care Warranty contracts are the same from Bernardi/College Hills Honda, etc, or a local Honda Acura Dealership. Ran into the same situation with Acura. Used Bernardi, who has to shut down their online warranty selling service 11/1/09 for Acura Care. Got a price on the term I selected for my Acura vehicle. Attempted to purchase the SAME contract from two Acura dealerships both of which I have used for all of my service work for my two Acura's in the past 7 years. There was a $1,000 markup with one dealership and a $400.00 markup with the other. When they cannot sell enough new vehicles to make a big profit, they will do so what ever way possible.

I am aware of not allow to sell online later begin of Nov, so dealers are pulling them off from the web. These dealers can sell them over the phone in same cheaper price though.

You didn't say what model of Honda you have, but you should be able to get a better price than that at myhondawarranty.com. Just put in your info and they'll give you a free quote.

    Hello everyone,

First off, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this super forum. Secondly I have a question about my Honda in regards to body damage. I purchased my Honda used about three months ago with a Honda CARE warranty. I just recently took it for a road trip to realize that my front bumper had been repainted. There were numerous locations where the paint was chipping on the front passenger half. I contacted the dealer where the vehicle was bought and was told too bad. So, am I honestly out of luck or do I have an possibility of getting this repaired. If you have any information regarding this please let me know. Thanks, Robert

I don't find that to be the case. I just did a quote on each site for the exact same car and there was no extra $150 charge on myhondawarranty.com even though I put in that I was out of state...
  • accordguy0325accordguy0325 Member Posts: 169
To my knowledge, exterior paint issues are not covered by a Honda vehicle service contract, However, if the dealership in which you purchased the car is not willing to make a good will gesture considering that they sold you this car/issue, you may consider contacting your state's attorney generals office to file a complaint and contact Honda customer service.

when u say yes...(people who cancel plan and goes to this website(which i did))then price goes 150 higher, not for out of state.....

www.hondacareextendedwarranty........on this website they donot have above questions.

Thanks to all that reply and give me such a great advice.
So I called collegehillshonda first and make sure that they can sell me the on line VSC in CA, and confirm the price is $940.
I also called another local delearship and got the quote for 8yr/100,000 about $1800. (At this point, I realize even for a local dealership and even I didn't buy the car from them, they can give me a quote less than $2095 and for a better coverage. I felt very upset about my orignall dealership).
However, the originall dealership said that I can tell them the price and they can try to match, so I called on the next day.
I didn't mention the quote of $1800 from another dealship, but I mentioned the $940 price and tried to see how she reacted.
Surprisingly, although she said she couldn't match the online price, but she could give me the employee price which is $1180 for 8yr/100,000 or $1295 for 8yr/120,000, both are 0 deductible!!!

I cannot believe this when the price comes out from her mouth, although I was very angry that she tried to make so much profit on it. (this totally ruins my impression on them.) This might not be the best price I can get, but I feel more comfortable to buy from the original dealership since I might need the service from them in the future. (I don't want to break the relationship with them.) So I still decided to buy the VSC from them.

Finally, I really appreciate the information provided by everyone. It was almost $900 savings for me!!

So, I just purchased a new Honda Pilot and I'm looking for an extended warranty. I went to the hondacareextendedwarranty.com site, which had the best prices, but they won't sell to California residents.

Where can I get the best deal?

Thanks for any help!!! I'm so glad I didn't bite when I bought the car. The woman acted like she was giving me a great deal for 6/80,000 at $1600. What a joke.

Email as many Honda dealers in your state to get the cheapest price, since you don't have to be there to make a purchase, a telephone call will do and a charge to your credit card.
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
a telephone call will do and a charge to your credit card

I suspect most dealers won't take a credit card for purchasing a car as the fee can cut substantially into their profits. Also, credit card companies will balk at charging large dollar amounts to the card if it deviates significantly from your "normal" spending patterns - even if you are within your credit limits. I think you need a Plan B. :)

I believe they were referring to calling and charging the cost of an extended warranty- not the entire purchase price of the car.

The local service department doesn't care where your Honda Care is purchased from. I go to local dealers and my vehicle shows up in their system that it has Honda Care, they do the work and Honda Care pays them the same. I don't even have to bring my service agreement into the dealership.

If you want to contribute extra profit to your local dealer than you're certainly within your right to do so.

As I previously posted, College Hills Honda is the lowest priced internet dealer I know about who sells in California:

I purchased a 2010 Accord LX-P over the weekend with 15k per year. The F&I guy offered me the Sentinel extended warranty plan that would extend me from 36k to 45k to cover the entire lease. It shows up as $430 on my paperwork, but only $8 per month more (8 x 36 = $288). It covers oil changes, so this is how I justified my purchase with $30 oil changes every few months. The plan also covers tire & wheel damage along with tire repair (nails), and now that these are $25 each time, this also swayed my opinion.

I am also looking for an extended warranty (VSC) honda pilot
Saccucci Honda seems to be cheaper and accredited by BBB.

However there is a lawsuit between Saccucci Honda and American Honda
and their website indicates their - " Online sales of Honda Care will cease November 1st, 2009"

I have inquired easycare warranty they are quoting way to high $2600 for 84 months /100k miles
where as Saccucci quote is $1,055
Can someone suggest a reliable one. Thanks in advance :shades:

Saccucci will sell you the same Honda Care service agreement as your local dealer, but you will pay a lot less.

The Honda Care paperwork will be mailed out to you from the same corporate office and you can get service at any Honda dealership in the country.

Yes, they have to stop selling Honda Care online at the end of the month. However, they can still sell during October, so you should take advantage. Once you purchase, your service agreement will be valid for the full term.

The court case is not finalized yet. Saccucci Honda believes in American's rights to buy Honda Care contracts at low prices and they are the only Honda dealer in America who has challenged Honda in court to be allowed to continue to sell Honda Care over the internet. . Please support them by buying your Honda Care from myhondawarranty.com.

    Thanks!

should i buy from saccuci or http://www.bernardiwarranty.com/

saccucis is giving 25 dollars incentive from their parts store whereas bernardi is giving 30 dollars.

Are both selling same Honda Care warranties? At the final checkout in bernardi site there is no mention of Honda Care.
  • gardinerrgardinerr Member Posts: 39
Go with Saccucci. Bernardi did nothing to stop Honda from banning internet sales. If it wasn't for Saccucci Internet sales would of ended over a year ago.
  • kamster50kamster50 Member Posts: 5
Make sure it's Honda Care. Also, be aware that after Nov. 2, 2009, online sales of Honda Care is prohibited. For $5 don't lose a 'sure' thing. I bought mine from a dealer in Louisiana and it is definitely Honda Care and I am happy with the price. Additionally, if you live in CA or FL, it is difficult to find a dealer who will sell you a extended warranty (Honda) online. Hope this helps.
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
I agreed ... Saccucci is fighting for the consumers and free trade while Honda America is fighting for monopoly pricing and their hefty dealer profits.

Same thing happened to Honda Canada won't honor warranty on any new Honda imported from USA while most other auto manufacturers will. Very bad Honda practice.
  • vmavma Member Posts: 2
Yes they are both . selling same Honda Care warranties. I preffered Saccuci since they are fighting with Honda on behalf of the customers. I bought the warranty 96/100 for my Honda Pilot from Saccuci last week and got the confirmation email. Hope they send the paperwork soon.

The Honda Care 7/75 will end on our 03 Pilot, January 15th 2010.

Bought the car new in January 03, and the Honda Care at the same time.
Pilot now has 39K on the odometer so the mileage is nowhere near expiring the warranty, but the time frame is.

I talked with the above dealerships about extending the extended warranty and figured Honda had something that would fit my needs because of the low mileage. Something I could purchase that would be good until I reached the 75K mark. Nope!

Then I called "HONDA CARE". The lady said that when my current contract runs out they are finished with me. FINISHED WITH ME! Makes me wonder if "TIME" will cause stuff to start falling apart even though the mileage is only about half of the original Extended Warranty's coverage! It is a shame that they don't have a plan on the new cars covering more time and less miles, which we wanted. Say 8/60k or 10/70k.

I like Honda Care, as they paid out a heap of money on my wife's 03 CR-V by the time it reached 49K miles. Because of the last episode, which required replacing the ECU and several other expensive components, which was covered, she was afraid to keep driving it because her Honda Care would also be ending soon. With no replacement available. So she traded it for a RAV4, and bought an EW..

Toyota Extended Warranties are "Fidelity", which is actually owned by South East Toyota. (SET)

Fidelity is also an after market "Warranty" source for other makes of cars. Our logic is/was that when the original EW expires, we can start it over again.
    UNLIKE HONDA CARE!

Some of the area Honda Dealers use Fidelity for covering their used cars. So they can sell me a Fidelity Policy, bumper to bumper 48/48K for $1485. More $$ than a Honda Care on a new car, but it would do what we need done. Don't understand why HC won't do the same thing.

HOWEVER in researching this thing, I've discovered that Fidelity doesn't cover as advertised on other makes of used cars. Hopefully they will do us right on the new RAV4, if we need it.

All that to ask this question:

Does anyone have any experience with any of the aftermarket Extended Warranties. Or anything I can do with covering the Pilot, short of trading for a new one? :confuse:

    Thanks,
    Kip

Thank you camrygal09 for your suggestion.
Talked again with the "Honda Care" folks hoping there was a loop hole in their plan as my car has only 39K miles. Still NO! And still for the life of me, I can't understand why they were willing to sell me the original 75K policy, but not willing to sell me another one to complete that mileage. Especially since every drop of oil and every recommended service has been done by my Honda dealer. So it's not like my car is falling apart. I'm just looking for peace of mind.

If Honda has faith in their cars, as they wish the consumer to have, they could make money just as the other extended warranty companies do. There is simply something wrong with this picture! :

    Any Way!
As it turns out "Easy Care" did write the Extended warranty for Honda (Honda Care) in the past.

Talked with EASY CARE yesterday at length. Seems they are willing to insure my 2003 Pilot for another 4yr/48K with an inspection of my car to make sure there is nothing wrong at this time, and the car is "As Represented" by me. From what they were saying the "Easy Care" policy appears to be exactly like the Honda Care I liked so much. However, they are expensive. At least when buying from them direct.

Sometimes dealers can and will sell Extended Warranties cheaper than the Insurances companies will sell direct. I imagine that is to protect the dealers ability to make some profit on the policies. Just as HONDA CARE is stopping internet sales of their product. Going to check with some dealers today. :)

    Thanks,
    Kip
