Figure out what you want to pay... then go to the most convenient local dealer, and see if they will sell it to you for that amount...

If that doesn't work, then reassess your options..

I always try the easiest way, first....

You really can't compare the brand new E90 325i, to the E46 coupe, which likely had dealer cash incentives on it..

Plus, you have less than a $3000 spread between MSRP and invoice... There isn't a ton of room to work with there...

And, yes... Xenons are definitely worth $800..

Considering that most dealers can't keep the Xi models in stock, that doesn't look too bad...

Assuming that the acquisition fee is rolled into the cap cost, then the numbers work out.. The bumped up money factor is adding about $14-$15 per month to the payment..

I shopped around at they gave me the best deal. And yes, the $695 acqu fee is rolled in. No dealer here in NJ (went to 4) would give me a LRF at the base rate. This particular dealership also paid off 1 of my remaining 2 lease payments on a 2003 325 CIC. They also "threw" in the floor mats, all weather mats and a cargo liner at no additional charge.

    Thanks for your insight.

    Hi All,

I'm in San Francisco Bay Area / Northern California. I've talked to three dealers so far (all over the telephone) about a 325i or 330i. They are all unwilling to negotiate the money factor on a lease.

Basically they love to tell me how they are making a great deal ($750 over invoice, etc.) and then they crank up the money factor such that I'm really being offered about $1750 over invoice.

Has anyone here successfully negotiated a deal in the bay area for a 325i/330i lease at around $750/$1000 over invoice with BMW's standard money factor/acquisition fees?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response.

The 325 coupe that my brother inlaw got was a 2005 convertible which isn't changing body styles yet.
I think he said that he went to a dealer that moves a lot of BMWs

    back to my purchase
Should I buy now? Or will prices go up once Jan 1 hits?

    thanks

'05 BMW convertibles do indeed have $1500-$2000 dealer incentives... If he got $600 over invoice on a convertible, before the incentives took effect, then that would be very unusual.. BMW dealers don't usually offer much of a discount on 3-series convertibles. Of course, the new '06s have no incentives...

I don't see the '06 models getting any more expensive as the year goes on... I don't think you can lose anything by waiting..

Try Fremont BMW, I was able to get $750 over invoice on a 325i(sport and premium), plus buy rate money factor. They wouldn't budge on the acquisition fee though. Mountain View BMW was going to, but I didn't want to undercut Fremont BMW for just $200. The person I dealt with there was really cool and helpful.

    Hi luv2run,

Thanks for the helpful info. May I ask who your salesperson was (at both dealers) so I can go straight to the right people?

Did you have to do all this in-person or over the telephone?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info; I'm on the East Coast in the final stages of negotiation; right now, I've got the dealer down to $950 over invoice with a .00195 MF. I love this process! :shades:
  • abarr566abarr566 Member Posts: 10
I'm hopefully nearing the end of the negotiation process on an 06 330i with the following options: Sport package, leather, automatic, heated seats, comfort access, metallic paint (Black Sapphire), and cd changer. Sale price: $40,500. The lease would be $519 with $2200 total due at signing (term: 36/12k). Money factor (rate is .00195).

    Good deal?
  • david22david22 Member Posts: 20
This is second time I am writing, but only received a couple comments and I am curious if this still sounds like a good deal.

    330i
    6 SPD Manual
    Jet Black
Premium Pkg ,Cold Weather Pkg, Sport Pkg
    Comfort Access
    Power Rear Shade
    Satellite Radio
    40,900
72 mo financing @ 4.75 with 20% down... Thanks. By the way its an employee purchase but I was wondering if you could walk into a dealer in Texas and get that kind of deal anyway?
  • abarr566abarr566 Member Posts: 10
Has anyone been offered, and/or taken advantage of BMW's delivery option at their plant in Greenville, SC? One of the NC Dealers offered this as an incentive to me...apparently, I can choose to take delivery of my 330i at the Greenville, SC site, with BMW footing the bill for 3 days of expenses for the customer to tour their site and test drive performance cars on their track --all at NO additional costs for the car.

    Truth or myth?

I think it's against forum rules to name sales people, but I think it's ok to say they're both in the internet sales dept.

Did you have to do all this in-person or over the telephone?

I did it over the phone after they responded to emails I sent through their websites. I had the whole deal worked out and spent about 15 minutes at the dealership just to sign the paperwork.

Strange, I emailed BMW Mountain View days ago and received no response at all, the email to BMW Fremont resulted in a cheeky response "We do business for a profit...". At that time I was probably pushing it too far (no MACO/security deposit).

I called BMW Mountain View this evening for a 330i, proposed $750 over invoice (I even included $280 MACO in the invoice) and standard BMW Financial Money Factor/Acquisition.

The salesperson I spoke to wasn't able to get the deal approved by the manager on duty (claims of no profit). I mentioned that other people online have been offered that deal. He claims he's going to check with some other managers in the morning and call me back. We'll see what happens.

I'm not sure if this forum supports private messaging, if it does, can you PM me the names of the folks at both Mountain View and Fremont?

    Thanks!

    luv2run,

    Quick but important question:

Does your definition of "invoice" include MACO/Training at all? If so, how much?

    Thanks!

I'm embarrassed to say, after the tons of research I have done, I didn't catch that fee. So my sale price was invoice + $750 + $280 (MACO).

I don't think that Performance Center Delivery (PCD) is a 3 day event... You fly in the afternoon before and they pay for dinner and a hotel.. Then some driving classes the next day... and delivery at the factory.. It is at no charge, however..

You can throw in a factory tour and see the museum, as well..

They do offer some extra cost driving schools... If you are getting a 6-series, there may be some extras involved..

That is not true. Then again, it depends in what state you are living in. As for me, I sent an email to over 10 dealers in NJ, requesting for a OTD quote ...and I got from most of them, way below MSRP. Check my earlier post # 5399.

    hope this helps

43,765 is MSRP, my price is exactly 40,920 plus TTL, no other charges...
  • abarr566abarr566 Member Posts: 10
MSRP: $43,295. Thanks!! Don't know if it matters but this is a 100% internet sale (meaning that I haven't been into the dealership with which I'm negotiating; been test driving at dealers in my local area who charge way too much!!).

Can anyone tell me what a fair price for a used 2004 330i with 8k miles, auto, zhp, and cloth interior? I ran it thru edmunds and trade in was $30,100, so how much would i expect to pay above or below this price? I know below is just a pipe dream since this is at a dealership and it has the CPO with it. Thanks for your replies.
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
Are those the only options on the car? Auto and ZHP? Does it have the prem pkg, sport pkg, xenons, etc?

To answer your own question, what does Edmunds say for Retail? Certified Retail?

Equipped just with what you mentioned, it looks like the CPO retail price is around $38k. KBB also shows about $38k.

BTW, cloth interior on a 330i???...
  • trdrdadtrdrdad Member Posts: 9
Sorry I was not more specific. here are the other options:
automatic transmission,in-dash CD player, glass moonroof, center rear headrest, heated front seats, aluminum "silver cube" trim,multi-function steeringwheel,CD changer preparation, xenon headlights, rain sensor and auto headlight, shipping package, smoker's package, battery switch,harman-kardon sound system,CO2 control,CO2 relevant vehicles, phone preparation, automatic air conditioning, power front seats,0ZHP performance package. I am not sure what some of these options are( CO2?,smokers pkg?,and shipping pkg.?) Any help on this would be great. And yes it has the cloth interior is this a plus or minus I find it odd myself, in fact not sure i can deal with the steering wheel be cloth too. Any idea how much a new bmw leather steering wheel would cost? :surprise:
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
Wait, is it really "cloth" or is it the Alcantara suede? If so, then the suede is sueet! (or "swade is sweet"?)

The options listing shows "options" that really aren't options... The 1) CO2, 2) shipping pkg, and 3) smokers pkg show on every single car. If I had to guess, they would be 1) related to USA emissions, 2) equipment to ship across the Atlantic Ocean, 3) ashtray and lighter.
  • trdrdadtrdrdad Member Posts: 9
Yes I believe its the suede but I thought that I have read people call it cloth. I was real suprised when the dealer said it did not have leather. It sounded cheap to not have leather in a BMW. But getting back to my question what do you think would be a fair price for the car?
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950

Did you see/drive the car in person, or did you only hear about it over the phone? If you haven't seen it, you've got to check out the Alcantara suede.

But getting back to my question what do you think would be a fair price for the car?

Like I said, both Edmunds and KBB show the retail at over $38k...

I'm in NJ as well. Can you tell me what dealer you bought the car from and some other one's that you dealt with that were willing to come down 2300.

I hate to sound like an idiot, but can you explain what exactly the money factor is? I'm assuming it's a type of interest rate for a lease. Also some one mentioned MACO/Training. Do you know what that is?

    Thanks

Assuming the $2200 includes 1st payment, security deposit and acquisition fee?

Then, I get about $489/mo... plus tax.. Does your payment include tax? If so, it looks like a good deal..

Your assumption is correct.. The money factor is used to calculate the monthly finance charges on a lease..

If you want to convert it to an approximate APR, then multiply it by 2400... (.0020 X 2400 = 4.8%)

MACO is a regional advertising charge that is on most dealer's invoices...it varies from $200-$500... The training fee is also on every dealer's invoice.. it is $180, but if you look up the invoice price on-line, the $180 is already included in that invoice price.. The dealer's base invoice is $180 less..

    Hi A Corvine,

You don't sound like an idiot at all, these are all leasing terms that nobody should be expected to know.

Money Factor is just the interest rate. You can multiply the number by 2400 to get the commonly formatted interest rate. When leasing through BMW financial services, the residual value of the car and the money factor are set regularly.

Dealers will almost always mark up this number to put extra money in their pocket while still making it look like they are discounting the MSRP of the car for you. You can get the official numbers elsewhere on the Internet, I get them at autospies.com. Look around enough and you will find dealers that don't markup this (or the acquisition fee, which is a standard $625 and is often marked up to $825.)

MACO/Training fees are a different story. They are both fees charged on the dealer's invoice by BMW North America. Generally speaking the MACO is about 1% of the BASE INVOICE of the car, and the training fee seems to be about $180. These are real fees that the dealer has to pay. You don't necessarily need to pay them as a line item, just know that they are added whatever invoice price you find on edmunds.
  • calif65gmcalif65gm Member Posts: 75
You have a pretty well optioned out car there. I am not sure of the invoice prices of the last 3 items, but the invoice is already about $44350 without those 3 items. Let's say those cost another 1500, so it'll be about $45,850. Dealer is asking for over $4K profit.

The problem that you're going to have is the AWD are not very popular in CA, so the dealer may not want to burn 1 of his allocations, in case you decide not to buy the car when it arrives. He'll have a problem selling it especially since it's so well optioned or he'll have to try and dealer trade it with a dealer in a more AWD friendly market. Either way, I think the dealer is trying to cover himself and honestly I don't blame him because there is no AWD market in CA. I would suggest that you look into doing European Delivery (ED) to save some money.

I got my 330Xi for $1250 over ED invoice which is actually kind of high. But, I am no where nearly optioned out as your specs.

    Good luck.

hello, i was doing some research on ED a few months ago but ended up buyin the car here. Now im tryin to help someone buy an 06 325i. I just wanted to clear something up. I have the confidential wholesale price list and stuff. So my question is -from what i have heard- "is the price on the sheet the invoice price? or is that the MSRP?"
i heard that there are a few thousand diff. between ED MSRP and invoice. Just wondering if i got that rite. He's looking to place the order tomorrow. THanks
  • calif65gmcalif65gm Member Posts: 75
The price sheet should have 2-sections- the top is the US MSRP prices and the bottom section are the wholesale/invoice prices. At the top of each section are US Delivered prices, Foreign Diplomat price and European Delivery Price. Ignore the Foreign Diplomat price as it doesn't apply unless you are a foreign diplomat.

Then the 2nd part of each section are the prices of the options. You should also use the invoice prices for those.
  • tliutliu Member Posts: 1
Finalized the deal and will pick up the car tomorrow. This is in northern Jersey.

    Got
    Metallic paint
    automatic transmission
    cold weather package
    premium package
    navigation
    parking sensors
    sirius satellite radio
    invoice/msrp $43,005/$46,940

    $43,700 + tax + Lic/reg ~approximately $46,820 OTD

Salesperson said this price is close to their employee pricing which they pay $600 above invoice. Anyone know if this is true?

Only test drove a similar car 2 weeks ago and simply went online to request quotes. In two days I got a deal in hand. Did not want to piss anyone off by gonig back and forth between dealers. I just replied to dealers that I wanted to pay $500 above invoice and one was able to come very close. The decision was made over the phone without stepping into the dealership. May be paying all cash helps too.

Wow, I think that deal is pretty unbeatable... 7% discount on the new, very-in-demand xi model in the northeast. Dealer must have been pretty desperate to put a deal together. :P

BMW doesn't have a set "employee price", per se, like GM or Ford does. That price is up to the individual dealer. There is no holdback for BMW, so most dealers will sell cars to employees for about $500-$750 over invoice to still make some money and to keep their Average Profit Per Vehicle number up.

As far as paying cash goes, that probably had zero effect on the deal. This topic has been beat to death on these forums.... The dealer ends up not making additional money they would have made if the customer had financed. So paying cash is a lost opportunity for the dealer. As a result, there is absolutely no motivation for the dealer to have a customer pay cash.

I plan on buying my first (new) car in a few weeks in Southern California. I built my BMW on bmw-usa, here are the specs.

    2006 330i
    titanium silver metallic
    leather
    sports package
    floor mats
    msrp: $40,898

Now, if I go to a dealer and get this set-up (or something very similar), what price range represents a good/mediocre/bad OTD price range (including ttl)?

I've been reading that 2k off MSRP is a good deal, so roughly 39k + ttl (10%) = 43k. would that represent a good deal?

I'm trying to gain a knowledge of the car and the price ranges before I try to negotiate, thanks.

ps. I really like the 7-star-spoke #162 rims that come with the 330i sports package, does anyone know if those rims are available with the 325i? has anyone successfully added those rims as an option to their 325? and if so, for how much? thanks.
  • aphallaphall Member Posts: 21
I placed my $1,000 deposit on a new 330i today. Here is the deal I received from South Bay BMW in California:

    INVOICE
    '06 330i - $33,485
    (205) Automatic - $1,210
    (ZPP) Premium Package - $2,000
    (ZSP) Sport Package - $1,455
    Destination - $695
    Total - $38,845

    MSRP
    '06 330i - $36,600
    (205) Automatic - $1,275
    (ZPP) Premium Package - $2,200
    (ZSP) Sport Package - $1,600
    Destination - $695
    Total – $42,370

    SOUTH BAY BMW
    (Invoice / MSRP) = $38,845 / $42,370
    Internet Price = $38,845 + $330 advertising + $900 + $106 floor mats = $40,181
    $1,230 over Invoice
    $2,189 off MSRP

The sales associate would not throw in the car mats! Maybe I should have been tougher at negotiating? I was in and out in 1 hour and she took the price I asked for (found deal through the Edmunds discussion boards). It irks that she didn't want to give up the floor mats! She also said this was the price employees pay and that I got the car for $500 over invoice. She also mentioned the cars are all detailed for free before delivery (a $100 value). I don't know what to think of all that. What do you all think? Thanks!
