Are you a current or recent car shopper who bought an EV and then installed solar – or who had solar already, making the decision to go electric easier?
OR
Are you a recent EV buyer (past 3 months) as a result of manufacturer incentives and dealer discounts on these vehicles, including year-end deals? Were you convinced to buy an EV after finding a good end-of-year deal, or due to uncertainty around which EVs will no longer qualify for full/partial EV tax credits in 2024? Should SparkPlugs be changed at 40k miles?

Hi, i have a 2008 VW Jetta 2.5S with 50k miles. The user manual says to change spark plugs at 40k miles. Since the dealer quoted 350$, i haven't changed yet. The car is running fine. Should i be changing the spark plugs ? If not will it led to other problems?
Thanks

Well now, with labor rates in most areas at 100.00 and more per hour, 130.00 may not be a bad price. they may have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to the plugs.
Unless you have the right tools such as a spark plug socket, flex head ratchet, extensions etc you just might want to leave this job to a pro.
Finding some shadetree "mechanic" on Craigslist might not be a good idea either.5

With the platinum plugs and clean running engines of today's cars most call for this around 100,000 miles.
I think I would follow the manual but 350.00???
You might check with a highly rated independent.
Maybe someone here knows what's up with VW.
They must be NASTY to change!
The guide also suggests that a fair price for the work would be in the neighborhood of $50. The whole 40k service would be around $415 and would include replacing the brake fluid, oil and filter, cabin filter and a bunch of other checks and inspections. Good advice to shop around for an independent VW dealer if you're paying $350 just for the plugs.
