Buying car-pitfalls when dealer says take car home and try it out... Is it okay?

What are the issues with doing such when buying a car?

Thank you

No issue. Except you fall in love and buy it! Really just an extended test drive.

There is even a name for it. It is called the "puppy dog" close.

It's a tactic designed to attach you to the car---you show it off to friends and neighbors, you learn all the features, and perhaps your mate or kid really likes it. Nothing nefarious here---perhaps a tad manipulative though.

I think the offers to let you take it home are great. I took a Fit home a few years ago overnight after the salesperson volunteered it. No deposits - don't even recall the dealer asking to make a copy of drivers license or get a copy of my insurance (if you wreck a car on the test drive, the dealer will first look to your insurance for coverage).

Didn't like that particular Fit and took it back the next morning, no worries.
