DVD player won't spin discs

My 2008 Sienna DVD player suddenly won't play discs because it doesn't seem to be spinning the disc. Inserting and ejecting the disc goes normally but the nothing happens when the disc is inserted. Any thoughts?

if it's not spinning, I'd say that it's not detecting a disc in there, which might be fixable by cleaning the optics but might also require professional servicing of the laser optics or the control circuitry--or the motor itself.
