Terrible gas mileage on the 2014 Infiniti Q50 AWD

Is anybody getting much worse gas mileage than promised on the Infiniti Q50 AWD? I am averaging 15 MPG in mixed driving, mostly local. But, on an all highway trip, I only got 20 mpg. This is much worse than the 20/30 advertised.

I called Infiniti and my dealer who both told me of a break-in period. I have been patient and now have 1800 miles with the same result. My first few tanks I used regular gas and was told that this could be the issue. I switched to Premium for the last 5 fill ups and am having the same results. I then went to the dealer and they reset my fuel usage calculator. This didn't help either. I am wondering if I have a lemon; if there is a longer break-in period needed or if Infiniti is misrepresenting the numbers? ALL advice and experience are welcome.

I have the q50s and have driven 2000 miles mixed just like you. I get 17.8 average and it doesn't seem like it will change. I always filled up with premium so it seems like Infiniti inflated their fuel efficiency. They are not the first ones to do this either. I believe Toyota or Honda was fined recently by the government for overstating their fuel efficiency.

I also have a brand new Infiniti Q50 with 900 miles. My MPG is barely 15 and that's with a fair amount of highway driving. I haven't called my dealer to complain yet but it looks like there is a real problem. The Infiniti website says 30 MPG highway.

My brand new 2015 model -- same problem. Getting less than 15 mpg, on premium gas. I thought it may be the "break-in" or even a faulty computation. I'll have to start monitoring myself (# miles/# gallons) now that I know this isn't an isolated observation.

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. I'm averaging 17.4 MPG. I now have 1900 miles on the car and have always used Premium gasoline. What I can't understand is that I was getting 19 MPG in my 2013 M37. I don't drive this one any harder than I did the M37 but am still getting worse gas mileage. I was going to get the Q70L and decided to get the Q50. I am really regretting this decision. It didn't hit me until about a week into driving the car, how much smaller it really is. The trunk is 1/2 the size of the M and getting in and out of the car is a real task. I'm only 5'11" but feel like I really have to duck to get in without hitting my head.

I don't know how to explain it but it feels like the car is always engine braking. In any other car, when your preparing to stop for a red light, you take your foot off the gas and coast to the light. With this car, you take your foot off the gas and the car feels like it's braking even if I'm not touching the brake. Most of the time I shift to Neutral if I feel I'm not going to make it. It just feels like I'm dragging a boat anchor or something. Even going down a hill, you have to stay in the gas pedal or you loose speed. Something is not right here.

Ideally, when it's all broken in, you should be getting about 23 mpg, give or take, as an average. I couldn't find results for the 2016, but 2014-15 owners have been reporting in to various websites, and the total lump average for all the reports (quite a few) seems to be about 21.5 to 22.5. Naturally you are going to get outlier reports, with people on windless days using cruise control on level ground, that will approach or exceed the 30 mpg rating.

Toyota does this with most of their models, in fact they lock up the torque convertor clutch to drive the engine a little harder. During decel, the injectors are turned off, and the alternator is commanded to charge at full rate essentially acting like a hybrid model as they try to capture energy that would otherwise be lost.
