CRX LX 2WD with $900 dealer add on, privacy glass all the way around, cargo carrier, mud guards..

OTD was 20,299... I traded in an 08 Kia Spectra :lemon: for KBB value.. I may have gotten $500 more at CarMax but doubt it.. I had no confidence in the Kia and wanted to get rid of it..

The LX with privacy glass is quite good, but with the money I wasted on the Kia I could have gotten a EXL last year for the same $$.

I'm very pleased with the CRV. It gets better mpg than the little Spectra. lol

We never really liked the new Accord EX we leased (we loved our midsized 2005 Accord EX - it was sporty, agile, nimble, and had pep) but the new full-sized Accord just is underpowered, sluggish and drives more like an old person's car, even with the more powerful 190hp 4-cylinder engine. The interior is poorly laid out too, compared to the 2005 model.

Why didn't you just keep the car you loved?

Hi happywakko, which dealer did you work with? I'm planning to buy a similar CRV in MA, haven't got a good price as low as yours yet ;(
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
    Panizza,

Thanks for asking. I purchased a CRV EX-L royal blue, gray interior today for $23,940, $399 fee, and the usual TTT. Window sticker was $26,717 (includes $670 destination charge). Car was orinially shipped from San Diego to Jacksonville, then transported to a dealership in GA (Nalley). Their sticker was $27,221 adding accent stripe, ultrafill nitrogen (whatever that is) cargo mats, and splash guards. The splash guards and mat was gone by the time I got the car because I asked the dealer I didn't want to pay for the addons. Car was swapped from one here in Jon Hall Honda (Daytona Beach). Excellent dealership to work with. No pressure, very accomidating! They threw in a cargo net, first two oil changes, and window tinting. I did all of the negotiations over the Internet. All I had to do was pick her up. Did I get a good deal? Thanks!

Does anyone have an opinion on whether I would save a lot more money by waiting to buy at the end of Sept. or Oct., or would it be insignificant enough that I should buy now if the price is right?

I had a dealer say that prices are good right now because Honda has provided them with some dealer incentives for July. I don't know if he was trying to create urgency, or if he was being honest.

    I'm looking to buy a 2009 EX-L 4WD.

Does anyone have price information on a Wisconsin 2009 AWD CR-V EX-L? I’m being quoted “invoice price” but I’m sure it can be purchased at lower price. Thanks.

I would counter offer 25,007 on the MSRP 27,955, invoice 26,052

I'm in Chicago, so it's not WI, but pretty close. I got an internet quote from O'Hare Honda for a 2009 CRV EX-L AWD for $25,000 (including destination charge), which is ~$1000 UNDER the invoice price. Dealerships are getting $500 from Honda this month so you should get the car $500 less than invoice. Remember that the invoice price includes a 2% holdback, or ~$500-$600, which the dealer may be willing to share with you. Make sure to clarify with your dealership what the invoice price is because their invoice can be different than what you see online because the dealer invoice often includes a regional advertising fee (~1-2% invoice or MSRP)
  • hennakaihennakai Member Posts: 3
Am I correct to assume that the 25007 offer includes the destination charge but not others such as document fee, etc.? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
  • leto123leto123 Member Posts: 28
Dealerships are getting $500 from Honda now, but that is unlikely to evaporate soon. Many though it would end July 5th but it's still in effect. They just like to publish them monthly to give the salesmen a way to project a sense of urgency. As for advice, it depends on if you care about the car's color or other specific features, since as the year progresses the 2009 inventories will decrease, reducing your options. But if you don't have strong preferences (like an unpopular color) then waiting could be beneficial. Also, aiming for the end of a month helps since the dealerships are trying to meet monthly sales targets.

Thanks leto123! Chicago isn't that far away!
  • leto123leto123 Member Posts: 28
No problem! And I think you could get the price down more, esp. since people on this forum have been reporting sales for ~ $24,000 and the offer I mentioned was just a first round internet quote. Good luck negotiating - and let us know how it turns out!

Are you sure this ~$24,000 is OTD? I have seen a guy reported deal of round $24500 from Lisle (a Chicago suburb) and that is the lowest I could find. I plan to purchase a CRV EX-L 4WD in the near future and I am also in Chicago. Do I have to inquire quotes from all Honda dealers around via Email or focus on some of them if you guys have some recommendation? Also what I can not decide is the purchase time. If I am not in hurry do I have to wait until the end of this September to nail down a better deal since it would be the end of another quarter? Thank you for your input.
  • leto123leto123 Member Posts: 28
My reference to $24,000 car price came from Post #8767. I assumed that the reported price includes the destination charge but not taxes, title, and licensing. I'm not sure if you can get that in Chicago (I hope so, since I'm going to buy a CRV EX-L at the end of the month!). My strategy is based on what I learned from Fighting Chance (http://www.fightingchance.com/). I bought the $39.95 packet on the CRV and have found it to be very useful so far. Essentially, the idea is to get dealerships in a bidding war for your business at the end of the month when they are trying to hit sales quotas.

  • leto123leto123 Member Posts: 28
The best way to get an idea of what's popular/available in your area is to browse the online inventories of the dealerships near you. I think the most popular colors are silver, glacier blue, black, and royal blue. Color preferences may vary by location.
  • AJ34474AJ34474 Member Posts: 14
Do a Google or Yahoo search of "most popular car colors". There are several internet sites available that will provide the infomation that you seek.
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
Well my wife wanted the Royal blue (dark blue) with gray interior. They were harder to find then the light blue CRVs Honda calls Glacier Blue Metallic. I'm in Florida. I'ts all a preference anyway.

What Are The Most Popular Car Colors?

When it comes to the color of your car, you may be surprised as which color is the most popular among car buyers. According to DuPont Automotive's most recent Color Popularity Report, 18% of new car buyers choose silver. The close second, white/pearl white , is the favorite of 17% of drivers, followed by gray (15%), blue (12%), black and red (11% each).

According to the report, for the sixth year in a row drivers picked silver because it conveys a clean, mechanical image that mirrors technological advances and modern life.

However a study published by British Medical Journal gives other possible reasons for silver's popularity. According to researchers, drivers of silver cars are 50% less likely to get in an injury causing accident than those with white cars. The least safe car colors are brown, black and green. Although the rationale behind this isn't clear, researchers speculate that silver reflects light better and makes the cars more visible.

DuPont Automotive's research also shows that 40% of consumers are likely to switch brands if they can't get the color they want. Are you one of them?

    *******************************************************************

    America's Most Popular Car Colors
The 10 hues U.S. drivers most prefer.

Car dealers desperate to shed inventory might want to buy some white paint.

That's because 20% of North America's car buyers drove off in white vehicles this year. Black and silver were also popular--17% of buyers preferred these shades. Blue ranked fourth (13%) and gray rounded out the top five (12%).

What's so great about white? Special pigments called "white effects" can subtly alter a variety of shades, allowing drivers to express their personal styles. Car colors with altered white tones include "Performance White" on the Ford Mustang, Lexus IS 250's "Starfire Pearl" and "Calla White" on the Audi Q7. This is the second year white has topped the list.

"These nuances are more obvious in white," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute and color consultant, of white's popularity. "It catches the light easily. If you have a pigmented finish, it is going to be more obvious on a white car."

The findings are part of the 2008 DuPont Automotive Color Popularity Report, released this month. DuPont provides coatings for automakers' production lines, and for the collision repair industry.

The report, which measures car colors' percentages of North American market share, found that while black, white and silver remain the most well-liked, other trends are emerging.

Buyers looking for ways to differentiate their cars from others on the road are trying out tri-coat systems, which comprise a base coat, a mid layer containing the color and a special "effect" pigment, and a clear coat.

What's more, "earth-friendly" tones like blue are gaining popularity, says Karen Surcina, color marketing manager with DuPont Performance Coatings. Last year, 12% of buyers preferred blue; this year, the figure is up slightly to 13%. Blue is especially popular among buyers looking to live a greener lifestyle, since it is widely perceived to be representative of nature. Interestingly, green was chosen by just 3% of North American buyers.

But don't expect blue to surpass the top three any time soon. They're universally popular: In Europe, black (solid and with effect), silver and gray reign, accounting for 26%, 20% and 18% of the market. Russians overwhelmingly choose silver cars (30%) while India's market shows a preference for white and white pearl (17% and 11%, respectively) and silver (27%.)

Among the least loved? Yellow/gold and beige/brown--just 2% and 5% of drivers, respectively, prefer these colors.

Color is on the minds not only of consumers, but of automakers as well. A 2007 Ford Motor study found that 39% of consumers will leave a dealership if it doesn't have a vehicle they want in their color of choice.

And to accommodate buyers' appetites for innovative color schemes, by next year, almost half of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles will feature new paint colors. These will include silver and bronze metallics, shades named after foods--including "White Chocolate" and "Candy Apple Red"--and pale blue and green tones.
    *******************************************************************
    Europe

Europe is dominated by the popularity of black vehicles in all segments. Black with effect, white/white pearl and silver are most popular across the board with a rise in bright reds in this year's report. The rankings remain consistent for black/black effect with 26 percent of the market, silver with 20 percent and gray with 18 percent.

White/white pearl saw a slight increase in popularity, rising from 8 percent last year to 10 percent in 2008. The warm neutral tones of beige and brown regained popularity in 2008, reaching 4 percent -- up from 2 percent last year.

"Current preferences are strongly influenced by ecological concepts, with demand growing for light, pure and sophisticated looks and the strength of blue showing optimism for the future," said Elke Dirks, DuPont color designer for Europe. "In the long term, we believe that European consumers will ask for a more colorful and individualistic palette from car makers."

    Russia

Russian color preference shows an overwhelming use of silver at 30 percent, black and red at 14 percent and slight differences between green (13 percent), blue (12 percent) and white (10 percent). Though Russia leans toward the silver and black color spaces, red and green are more popular there than in any other region, demonstrating the diversity of color trends.

    Asia

India's market shows a strong preference toward white and white pearl with 17 and 11 percent respectively, followed by silver with 27 percent. As in Russia, strong chroma colors made a good showing with red at 12 percent and blue at 8 percent. Black and black effect with 6 percent and 1 percent, respectively, was even with yellow and gold at 7 percent.

Silver remains exceptionally strong in the Asian countries of China, South Korea, Japan and India. In South Korea silver represents 50 percent of the market, up from 39 percent last year. Silver is top color with strong growth shown in China as well at 32 percent for 2008, up from 23 percent in 2007. Japan and India report white/white pearl in the top color position (8 and 24 percent and 17 and 11 percent, respectively) with silver making a strong showing with 28 percent in Japan and 27 percent in India.

"Candy white and tri-coat pearl are extremely popular in most of the Asia Pacific area," said Emily Hung, DuPont color designer for the Asia Pacific region. "In Japan we see an overwhelming preference for white pearl or white with effect.

"In India and China we see a wide range of colors offered to attract young buyers to compact cars," Hung said

    Hi
I am interested in buying a CR-V EXL silver color in Worcester county, MA. MSRP is $27245 and Invoice is $25342.

What would be a considered a good price (include destination charge)?

I have read a couple of internet sites. I am not aware of whether there's any Honda rebate on CR-V or factory hold back.

Do you think I will get better pricing if I purchase the car at the end of July or Aug?

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

I purchased a CRV-EXL w/NAV from Boch Honda in Norwood this weekend. $26,100 plus tax and fees. It was their last Nav unit, and thought they might get two more, but not sure when. Honda stopped building cars in February, so they're trying to sell out inventories. 2010 models to arrive in September. Not sure if any changes for new models.

We pick up the car tonight.

So...haggling and Cash for Clunkers got me $20,200, about $5500 under MSRP. Can anyone give me an idea whether that is a good deal? This is my first brand new car purchase...and only the second or third time I have done business with a dealer. Missoula, MT.

I have been working with several dealerships online in my area (Upstate NY) and the lowest quote i have been able to get so far is $22,850. Does this seem like a good deal/great deal/ok deal....? I was wondering if anyone has recently purchased an EX model and what their price was? Thanks in advance!
  • vagabondchefvagabondchef Member Posts: 107
Got a price quote for $21250 for a CRV 4WD LX and $23338 for a CRV 4WD EX plus $125 dealer fee.

Is this good? or are these prices too high. This is in the Milwaukee area.

    They seem very high.

I thought things are really bad out there.

Don't they want to sell any cars.

Please advise if I should go lower and how much.

    Thanks!!

I placed an order for this vehicle this week (waiting for my color to come in). The price was $25,300 and that includes destination. I have to add the taxes, inspection fee $10.00, tire disposal $12.50, registration/title processing fee $45.00 and the cost for plates.

I had three dealers willing to sell me the CR-V for this price. I could not get any of them to lower their bid.

Many local dealers told me they would not sell it to me for this price or that the dealer was going find a way to bump up the price when I went in to sign the deal.

Hello, I have been just offered 23903 OTD pricing for a 2009 Honda CRV EX FWD vehicle. I live in Tampa, FL. Is this a decent deal? Hubby got a CRV LX in February and was totally ripped off by the dealership. I am never going back to that dealership.
    Thanks.

Hi, my post is right before yours. I got a new 09 EX for $20,200 yesterday in Montana. That was about $5500 under sticker, but part of it is my "clunker" qualified for the cash for clunkers program and I got $3500 for it. I guess you could say the price was $23,994 to begin with (about $1600 under sticker), but I think we would have gotten them down further than that if we had no clunker already bringing the price down.

I have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up because that is when cash for clunkers starts. I can't WAIT to drive it.
  • danzadanza Member Posts: 3
I live in the Western NY region and I have gotten about 5 quotes from Honda dealers in the area. The highest for the AWD CRV-EX is $23,648 and the lowest is $22,850. And that's with AWD, not sure if you were looking at the front wheel drive, but the AWD is more expensive.

Anyone know when the 2010 is coming out? My current car is on its last legs but I would like to hold out for the 2010 if it's coming soon. I heard fall 09 but I don't think my car will make it past September. I've checked with dealerships and they claim to have no idea, but I'm not sure that's just because they want to move the 09s....?

    Hi bigdadi118

I was thinking of putting in a bid of $24K (include destination charge and TTT) and sit and wait. Hoping thay with competitive bidding and near end of quarter (end of Aug), the dealers may give me a good offer. Also there's a $500 Honda rebate.

    What do you think?
  • Shep626Shep626 Member Posts: 6
Savella- where did you go? I got my 2009 CR-V EX 2WD (including roof-rack and tinted windows) for $23,299 OTD. I live in the Tampa area and searched 6 or 7 dealerships as far out as Lakeland. I ended up purchasing it at Honda of Wesley Chapel. Before I went to sign the paperwork, I called all the dealerships in the area to see if they would beat it, and no one would. I bought mine at the end of January, so I'd imagine you can probably pull off a better deal..

I know Kuhn Honda (off Kennedy) will give you a $500 giftcard if they can't match another dealer's deal.. but you have to provide them with a Purchase order to get it. I don't reccommend them though because the Internet Sales Manager was quite unpleasant and I could see right though his sales tactics.

    Hope this helps!
  • savella1savella1 Member Posts: 3
Hello Shep626, I went to Tampa Honda Land. My husband bought his CR-V LX in February at Honda of Wesley Chapel and was totally ripped off. We were held "hostage" at the dealership with the salesman running back and forth for about 4 hours trying to negotiate prices. This time, I did everything via the internet. Way better experience. The cash price of the CR-V EX was 21,760 with the total 23,903,but might be a little lower as the FL title, registration and license fees estimated at 100.00. I tried various other dealerships around the area, but there must not be too many CR-V EXs left as there were a few dealerships in the area that did not even bother to respond or were trying to sell me the CR-V LX. You really got a great deal. Thanks for all your info and help.

Hello, went to the dealership today and saw 2010 models in the showroom. However, did not see the CR-V, but read somewhere that it will be probably September. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the postings on Price, it helped me buy our car - here is our deal:

Bought 2009 Honda CR-V LX two wheel drive for $19,700 + tax, title & license. Included in the price were mud flaps & a trunk tray. Color was Glacier Blue Metallic.

I used edmunds to send requests for quotes to several dealers around me. Ended up buying from the Thousand Oaks Honda Internet Manager. Easy deal, I asked for quote, they sent me a quote, I countered, they accepted and we went down & picked up the car. Entire deal done in 1 day, took about 2 hrs at the dealer to get the paper work done & turn my clunker into cash. The internet manager is much easier than the sales staff to deal with - I had tried on 2 previous times to buy a car from the regular sales staff, but they would not deal - the internet dealer gave me a pretty good price up front.

Breakdown of deal is as follows from contract:

Cash Price of Vehicle & Accessories: $19700
    Doc Fee: $55
    Sales Tax $1629.79
    Total Cash Price $21384.79

    Estimated License Fees $227
    Registration $66
    CA Tire Fees $8.75
    Smog Abatement Fee $20

    Cash for Clunkers rebate $4600

    Final Price $17106.54

The cash for Clunkers was $4500 as a rebate - so I had to pay tax on the entire price of the car (Are others finding this the same way?). They also gave me $100 as a trade-in on the car, which they said the government refunds them.

Another good Internet dealer is Woodland Hills Honda - they actually give me a lower price, but I wanted to move fast and went with a closer dealer.

    Cash for Clunkers rebate $4600

The extra $100 is amount to you for scrapping your old car. Plus old car has to be registered under your name for at least past 1 full year.

I got quotes from 2 dealers here in Atlanta. One is for $21,474 and the other for $21,715. The dealer fee is EXTRA which is $599. So after adding the dealer fee it would be $22,073 and $22,314.

Any idea how low will the dealer be able to go? Also when does the August pricing come in?

    Thanks!

I am a young professional looking to get my first car, and was trying to get a good deal on 2009 Honda CR-V EX-L 4WD. I am new to this process and am confused. I requested for quotes from a couple of dealers and here is the OTD prices, I got from them. 27046.06, 26976.44, 26708.96, 27291.12, 27196.81 respectively. I am not sure if these are the lowest or if I could get lower than these prices.
Hoping someone out here can help me out.
    Thank you.
