C4 headlights

I've noticed an issue with my 94 C4 headlights recently. When I turn them off, the motor runs for an extra 5-10 seconds on the left headlight. Is there a sensor or a stop for the gear that is failing? I haven't taken it apart yet but I would like to know what I might get into. It will also run if I use just the parking lights and the headlights are not raised. I first noticed it this past spring when I reconnected the battery after it's winter hiatus.
